Native 4k or 2k in almost every rom - Sony Xperia XZ Premium Themes, Apps, and Mods

Hey guys after experience alot all xz premium ROMs I am want to share you have to can have 4k or 2k this is my method and my app.
1-install this app for first (no permission at all just root)https://mega.nz/#!HABFwaRZ
2-go to app and set type infos for resolution
3-for 4k set DPI 821 for 2k 560 and press apply if it doesn't apply just close the app and open it again
4-get a app that you can edit your build prop with that and set DPI to what you changed in 3
Reboot and enjoy your phone.
I'm used a AOSP rom who can switch to 4k so easy in extended setting but that's so laggy when switch to 4k best rom for using 4k is turbo rom.
Note:this is not native resolution but DPI is get native with edit in build prop Wich is necessary to haven't black recently and small windows but I found no difference between native resolution and non native resolution,it's look like sony lied to us and our phone haven't a 4k screen because I easily see the display pixels in native 4k Wich created by Sony in AOSP.

It is a 4k panel.. when you download AIDA 64 it shows your native display res is 2160p. ( in a non-rooted sony XZP with no Resolution emulation , running stock 1080p) also i found this guy who removed a sony XZP who confirms its a 4K panel.. ill try to post the link.
also how can you see them pixels. @[email protected] man im a training pilot and i have 20/20 vision and i cant see a pixel . Are you sure your phone was not repair ( refurbished?).

Yeah I'm not say I'm 100 percent sure about that but if it's 4k you never can use it .

you can... whenever you are watching native 4k content. Im alright with this , but it'll be cool to have native 4K unlocked in everything else. Although i doubt the 835 can work smoothly.

its not rare if you ask me.. you can easily get them . ( i agree that you cant expect them same level of clarity and fps compared to original blue-ray disks*)
but then again its waaaaaay better to watch 2160p 10 bit HDR h265 files than watching 1080p 10bit files , yes and its very noticeable
*( you cant archive the same 4K blue-ray disk quality in movies with 4K digital rips unless someone actually crack the security code and rip them lossless)
also if you DM me , ill send you a link to get really good 4K rips of movies for around 2-5GB avg . Fyi you can hardly notice the difference when you are side by side watching the original blue-ray disk on your tv and the digital copy on your phone. ( because i did that test with the original blue-ray -jumanji disk and the ripped copy on my phone )

I'm confused. The title says "Native 4k or 2k" but your note states that this is not native?
This seems exactly the same as using the adb command "wm size", to emulate 4k/2k. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think changing the resolution is on the kernel level. Latest AOSP for XZP contains the extended settings to change resolution yes, but there's still an issue. It isn't fixed yet. -- https://github.com/sonyxperiadev/bug_tracker/issues/94

Tested lot of time and always worked just some times you need to reopen the app for applying the changes.

Isn't this literally the same thing as using the ADB commands that doesn't require root?

How is rooting your device, which requires a PC btw, and then installing an app to change your wm size and dpi easier and faster than just using the ADB commands?
Doing it through ADB doesn't even take 30 seconds.

Man if you doesn't use your phone rooted why you came here because i cant find such a thing who will work on unrooted devices if you don't want to use this app so don't use it,you don't need pc for root if you are not a noob ok? And you can always use this app to change your resolution to everything you want and you can revert to your stock resolution so easy.

Let me explain about my behavior for you i never use my phone without twrp and i have a lot of rom file in my sd card so then every time i want to flash a new rom just go to recovery whipe everything(of course i backup my data with titanium backup) flash new rom if this rom is carbon just flash magisk for root if it's a customized stock rom it will be prerooted and if that a untouched rom i will flash a appropriate kernel (i also have a lot of kernel in my sdcard) then flash magisk and drm fix depend on kernel (drm fix is differ for janjan kernel).
Thats all.

[Q] Timeshift video and 4K video recording

Hi guys, I know that some have port the functionality from the Z2, but my question is, will there be any official release for such function in the future for the Z1C? I know it is capable, but the question is, will we get it or not officially? thanx in advance.

Snapdragon postet the difference between 800 and 801:
QTI’s 3rd Generation LTE modem, with support for RF360 and popular requirements such as LTE-Broadcast and LTE/3G Multi-SIM
HEVC 1080p support
Support for larger, faster camera sensors and improved image post processing
Maybe you don't get a liquid 4k experience and you don`t get the full 120fps in timeshift.
So it is possible, that Sony don't want difference in their App Specification.
But i would be happy, using Timeshift video, even if it has only 116 FPS or less.

First you have to look at the Android API for the camera:
http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/media/camera.html#intent-video
and
http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/media/camera.html#camera-features
For example Timelaps would be no problem to realize with an APP. Because its an API Feature.
For SlowMotion you need a workaround, because Android (in this case the API) do not allow this kind of command on the camera.
A Possible solution is to manipulate the System, for example with root to push our own library into the System.
Slow Motion Apps in the appstore are nothing more than recording with normal speed and slow it down afterwards. (Maybe there are Apps with root, for real slow motion)

Because you need root for slow motion, i would try the Sony App. There is a thread in XDA with all Sony camera apps.

LG G3 4K Video on AOSP - did it ever work for anyone at all?

A while back CM12 had a patch that enabled 4K video recording. I remember that it even worked SOME of the time, but mostly it showed to be recording without saving anything. Currently on CM12 and Blisspop the option is again removed - probably because it was buggy: review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/103494
I've tried many different camera ZIPs from other manufacturers (Motorola cam, Lenovo cam) but they do not appear to enable 4K either.
I tried playing around with the media_profiles configuration file, uncommenting the 4K profile. This does enable 4K video recording - even saving, but the framerate is really bad (<10), both with stock and third party cameras.
So my question: Did anyone ever get smooth 4K video to work on AOSP? If so what was the combination of software used?
yes it did work for idiots who;
1) flased xXcameraXxfix_AROMA_VIPERPRO_v4_FAKXDA_LIKE_SUBSCRIBE_DONATE_YOUTELLMEBUGS.zip
2) set the resolution to 4K
3) shot a video
4) never realized it didn't even save, even if it did, it was lagging between 5 and 15 fps
TL;DR
no, it did not, i have flashed all the 3rd party crap from random monkeys claiming they fixed the camera on aosp promising stock quality
to those who come in here telling me it does, provide proof or gtfo

BUT, is there any non-stock ROM with STOCK camera quality? No 4K, I do not need that, only 1080p (60 fps or 30).
Nope Coki4, unfortunately Tehosiris is right: with the HTC cam and resolution "fix" I can record in 4K, but it is still way too low framerate (15 FPS or worse).
Voterx: To me 4K is most important, hence the thread. If i want proper pictures I take my DSLR anyway... 4K video is something that is really a beautiful thing if you have the screen to display it. There is a huge difference between 1080p and 4K.
To me it is starting to look like the camera driver in AOSP source is just not able to push the pixels?
Snap camera does it. I have also found that snap camera takes as good, or better in some cases, pictures as the stock camera.

What are you doing to get those file properties? Want to check what my jerky files say..
edit:
Properties here also shows 30 fps, but the video is jerky as fuuuuuu* - i guess it is saved "as" 30 FPS but it just drops a bunch. Yes it is 4K but def not 30 FPS, even if the file shows it to be (for me).
but.. if it is smooth for you I want to know your exact rom details so I can try to achieve my holy grail.
can one of the digital cowboys upload these fabled 4k videos shot on aosp?
i still yet to see a nonstock 4k video that doesn't lag like ****
@geekmystique the jerkyness doesn't show in properties, they are just the same as regular videos, you can check the properties in root explorer or any other file explorer.

your 2nd screenshot shows that the 4k video is in 59.9 fps, now THAT i'd like to see.
bending physics with an apk eh?
edit: judging from the amount of silence after the bigface comments, i assume it takes an awful lot of time to upload the fabled 60fps 4k video (translation: someone is full of **** and/or clueless)
Let's not make this into a flamewar of sorts.
This is a video I took of my hand waving in front of the camera, whatever the file info says, it is not 30 FPS - by far, it is dropping frames like crazy. The file properties say 30 FPS in MPCHC, but windows properties shows the truth: 18 FPS.

Let's discuss
I do not need 4K, I just need stock quality camera in custom ROMS It's different question.

i suggest you take a look at the camera comparison post here on xda, showing stock / moto / htc / whatever side-by-side
there is no such thing as stock quality on non-LG driver backed software
Anyways, i'm absolutely on geekmystique's side here, i've had multiple people giving me lectures how i need to flash xyz.zip set ABC settings to DEF, align my device towards Mars, count to 7 and stand on my left foot to have AMAZING STOCK QUALITY PHOTOS AND VIDEOS.
Guess what, i've done all those steps, flashed all the zips, pirated all the ****ty apks and gotten nothing but disappointment.
Thats why there is sarcasm towards these 'BUT MY AOSP CAMERA IZ BETTUR BRUH YOU SUK', when it's clearly not. Hell, half of the conversations ended at 'WHO NEEDS 4K' or 'I DONT NEED CAMERA ANYWAYS' which is ridiculus when it's these people giving lectures on how to flash stuff they don't even know what it contains.

[MOD] Enable ClearMotion on MIUI based ROMs

Folks, I bring to you the wonderful frame interpolation feature supported by our chipset MediaTek Helio X10: ClearMotion!
Disclaimer:
Confirmed working on most MIUI builds for Redmi Note 2. (7.0.12, 7.0.14, 7.1.4.0 CHINA, 7.1.3.0 CHINA, 5.12.24, 5.12,23, 5.11.1 etc)
Does not work on Global stable MIUI Builds beyond 7.0.12; however, it works in equivalent China builds.
Pre-requisites:
Rooted Redmi Note 2 (or MediaTek based device on MIUI 7 ROM)
TWRP or CWM recovery installed
Flashable zip file containing ClearMotion libraries ported to MIUI
Steps:
Method 1:
Download the file "Enable_ClearMotion_v2_for_Redmi_Note_2_by_Hasaan6545.zip" and place it in your sdcard
Reboot into recovery and backup your ROM (as a precaution).
Flash the file. Reboot
Play a video using MX Player (or any player that supports HW decoding) and feel the difference
Method 2 (Only for those who can not flash the zip for any reason; you may attempt manual installation).
Download the file "Enable_ClearMotion_v2a_for_Redmi_Note_2_by_Hasaan6545.zip" and place it in your sdcard. Extract the folder.
Using "Root Explorer", navigate to "system/build.prop" and use its built in text editor to add the following lines at the end of the file. Don't forget to add an extra empty line at the end.
Code:
persist.sys.display.clearMotion=1
persist.clearMotion.fblevel.nrm=255
persist.clearMotion.fblevel.bdr=255
ro.mtk_clearmotion_support=1
ro.mtk_slow_motion_support=1
ro.mtk_16x_slowmotion_support=1
(Alternatively, you may add these lines to your build.prop file using any build.prop tweaker from Play Store)
Using Root Explorer, copy the libraries located in the zip file's system/lib folder into your phone's "root>system>lib" directory.
Reboot your system and play a video to see the difference (if the mod worked for you)

WHY NOT SIMPLY USE AOSP ROMs FOR CLEARMOTION ON REDMI NOTE 2?
AOSP ROMs for Redmi Note 2 offer ClearMotion and MiraVision by default; however, there are advantages of using ClearMotion on MIUI instead of switching to AOSP:
Camera with MediaTek's InstantFocus™ and TrueBright™ technology: On MIUI, we retain a good quality camera that we have to sacrifice when switching to AOSP. (Yes, the fast focus speeds and superior image quality on MIUI ROMs are not due to the "so-called" PDAF sensor; it's because of Helio X10's InstantFocus and TrueBright technologies; both of which are operational in MIUI Camera.
Most AOSP ROMs for Redmi Note 2 are (currently) plagued by an assortment of deep sleep bugs that pop up at times and drain battery during standby. This is very annoying; and is attributable to AOSP Lollipop Build 5.0.x more than the ports itself.
Slow Motion feature on MIUI is superior to that in AOSP's (the latter needs the stock camera app and saves videos that can be played in slow motion only through the stock video player; whereas MIUI actually exports a slow motion video in mp4 format that can be played using any player, and can also be shared)
I really feel suited to AOSP, but the MIUI ROM also has much eye candy to offer.
If you like this mod, don't forget to hit the thanks button!!
Notes:
This is an answer to those who claim that this mod makes the ROM stagefright vulnerable (Ironically, the same people include this mod within their ROMS)
30/12 V2 released: Added build.prop tweak in the zip file so installation is much more simpler. Stagefright issue investigated: Modifications in an older AOSP-based libstagefright.so included in this mod are necessary for the mod to work. Those of you who are still upset about stagefright alarm in some stagefright testing apps, please consider the following:
1. You may simply disable MMS auto-retrieval for their safety
2. Flash this patch that disables stagefright functions using build.prop (Credits: Edzamber, source) : http://www.mediafire.com/download/gi4113dll3g98l6/Disable_Stagefright_by+build.prop_v2.zip
3. There is very, very little possiblity that the stagefright bug will ever be exploited against you; whereas the mod is yours for everyday use.
Click to collapse
Last but not the least, I respect the developer community; however, the courtesy of giving credit for the mod when included in the ROMs should humbly be observed. I posted this mod in December 2015; prior to which nobody was able to enable ClearMotion on MIUI and many people claimed that it would be impossible to do so due to software differences.
Happy modding everyone

I've installed this mod but after I set 1 in EngMode my screen don't divide ( wich means that ClearMotion don't work ). But I think I see some differences in video and YouTube... Is this an option ? Mod working but screen don't divide în ClearMotion Demo ? I have Reno2 Prime and MIUI 7 5.11.5 Beta.
P.S. I have 2 screenshots with and without this mod on YouTube video.. If that help you..
P.S. 2 Maybe I'm crazy and there is no differences and Mod don't work on my ROM
Can't play some video on youtube such as this https://youtu.be/5e2G5CcuMfs thats ironic, the video tells about clearmotion
Edit : no error again?? Maybe youtube unstable

MiraVision works but MIUI's builtin display settings conflict with it.
I personally think that MiraVision is unnecessary because when you play videos on YouTube or view pictures against a black background, MiraVision thinks that the image being displayed is underexposed and therefore boosts up brightness and lowers the contrast which looks ugly. Apart from that, it's a handy little feature.

Screenshots don't help. This mod can be seen to work while videos are being played. However, if the screen doesn't divide in demo mode, it's unlikely that the ClearMotion is functi onal. Have you tried playing the video using HW decoder on MX Player? Are you sure that build.prop lines are added properly?
Reinstall the mod and/or try it on any other MIUI version. It does work.

That obviously has nothing to do with ClearMotion. Just a random YouTube bug.

Wow! It works like a charm! Thank you.
Do you think it will have any effect on battery life?
PS: It seems like videos are playing a bit delayed but sound comes right on time.

Glad you like it. The videos play perfectly in sync with the audio. The only noticeable delay is immediately after seeking (as the SoC loads the successive frames and generates images to interpolate).
As the whole process is hardware optimized, battery life does NOT suffer.
Can anyone confirm that this Mod work on MIUI Beta ROM ?
Works on MIUI 5.12.10 Developer Global ROM

Brother I accidentally missed this question earlier. It came to my notice now so I am replying it late.
It does work on YouTube, Facebook and other similar apps. Basically it works wherever hardware decoding is used i.e. on all video formats supported by the native player.

This mod boosts the framerate; not the texture itself. However, the output is visually pleasing and I guess I understand what you mean when you compare it to playing a Pc Game (Hardcore gamers always play at a minimum of 1080p @ 60fps )

[MOD] HEVC/H.265 Video Recording V2.1

I was able to modify OnePlus 5 to enable HEVC/H.265 video recording at 4k, 1080p & 720p resolutions. I have also reduced the bit rate for the video so that it will take less storage space.
There are 2 Magisk module attached below one with 40% bit rate reduction and other with original bitrate.
Note - Take a backup of your 'media_profiles.xml' located at system/etc/ before attempting this mod.
To install just unzip and overwrite 'media_profiles.xml' at system/etc/ with permission 0644 and reboot your phone.
Here is a link to the file on google drive if you are not able to download it here.https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwXqylXTgITAOWllTi1XRE5qdDA
Update V2-
Added Magisk Module
Decreased the video bit-rate by around 40%
Video is currently recorded at following bit-rate
4K at 24Mbps (default is 42Mbps)
1080p at 11Mbps (default is 20Mbps)
720p at 8Mbps (default is 14Mbps)
Update V2.1-
Fix for slow motion crashing on modded google camera
Tested only on OxygenOS 4.5.8
Awesome. Reboot needed?

Don't have a 3/3t to test it out, but most probably it won't work as the camera setup is different.
What did you modify to enable this? Would be useful to know so that we can see if the same could be done on the 3/3T
Is there any noticeable reduction in image or sound quality?
Really useful... Could you please do the same for 3 and 3t? Or at least try? Thank you

There is actually a mod like this for OnePlus 3 https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/how-to/mod-hevc-h-265-encoding-enabled-t3586792
Try it out. If it doesn't work then I can try to do it for 3/3t.

media_profiles.xml needs to be modified to enable hevc encoding. You can check media_codecs.xml file in /system/etc/ to check if your phone supports hevc encoding, or if you want me to look into it just upload these two files and I will have a look.

Files are from the open beta 11 for the 3t, should be similar to the stable channel and 3. And the thread mentioned above for op3 is a really old one, additional codec support has been added to the devices since. Colud create conflicts, so I wouldn't be trying that out.
Edit I do see the support for hevc in media_codec.xml
opening video with desktop player says hevc so it should be worked. good job!! I guess we can have same quality with less bitrate as to say better quality at the same bitrate, even if max quality remains the same (sensor's limit)
---------- Post added at 01:58 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:21 AM ----------
I just made a test: recorded 2 videos at lowest bitrate in 264 (1,5mb/s) and 265 (0.8mb/s). 265 quality is much much better!

Enable Galaxy TAB S7/S7+ 4K resolution (Using ADB)

I am unsure if this thread belongs here. Kindly let me know if it doesn't or please move it.
I was wondering if the TAB S7/S7+ would let me play YouTube videos on 4K using the native app but unfortunately it doesn't for obvious reasons using stock settings.
So I figured a way to enable this using ADB. I am unsure how much this affects the battery life since I am still testing app compatibility and power usage.
ADB Commands
1. To set 4K resolution -
adb shell wm size 2400x3840
adb shell wm density 1024 (or whatever suits your eyes, mine is 1200)
2. To reset to default -
adb shell wm size reset
adb shell wm density reset
So if anyone's interested all you have to do is -
1. Download minimal ADB and install it if you do not have ADB installed.
2. Open Command Prompt in the ADB folder by pressing Shift Key and selecting the Right Click option "Open command prompt here".
3. Run "ADB devices" without quotes and accept the prompt on your device (Your device must have USB debugging enabled, if you don't know how or have it enabled you probably shouldn't be doing this).
4. Run the above "To set 4K" commands to set the display resolution to 4k.
5. Clear the app data of Youtube and restart the device.
6. (Optional/Reset) To reset the display resolution to default, just run the 2nd set of commands.
Not sure this is actually making the screen dislay 4k.
It doesn't actually MAKE your screen 4k as the display only supports 2k. The device renders everything in 4k and then outputs it on the display just like what Retina Displays or Nvidia DSR (Dynamic Super Resolution) does.
Just in case you want to actually make sure everything is running in 4k, you can simply try running a 4k video on Youtube which otherwise you cant!

Right, so what's the point? The 4k video doesn't look better on a 2k screen.
Since DSR and Retina Displays already exist, I believe there are some advantages. You have to try it to believe it. The displays feel a lot sharper, edges feel smoother, fonts look amazing, overall it just looks good on the huge display of my Tab s7+.
Coming back to that I need to ask you, did you try this before asking me the POINT. Coz I feel if you would have, you wouldn't be asking me this!

Yes, I did, and it looks no different. It's a 2k screen, enabling something to load a 2k screen with 4k will make no difference. Not trying to argue, just saying, it's pointless.
I accept it doesn't make any greatly significant difference but then its subjective. It was just an experiment and I wanted to try it. There are many people out there who always want to run youtube at 4k, this was simply my answer to that problem, although it has its own downside and implications.
Thanks for figuring this out! Often 4k will look better on a 2k screen than 2k on a 2k screen.
This is because pixels from youtube don't always line up perfectly to the tablet pixels and you end up with a resolution less than 2k when you have it set to 2k. When you stream at 4k from youtube, the content is delivered with smaller pixels and ends up looking better on a 2k display.
Thanks for this going to give it a try on my 7 plus.
it worked now i get the option to 2160 resolution, it does look sharper.
good work thanks very simple
Hey
When i use the command "densiti" my screen become wery BIG otherwise the "size" resolution is great
is that normal ??
There's also Newpipe to get 4K Youtube without hacking. As a bonus, it also gets rid of the ads.
Does this work on Netflix? Will the maximum resolution on netflix and prime video change to uhd?
What the Implications and Downsides to this?

The point is higher bitrate. Youtube compresses videos so much so 4k will have a much higher bitrate than 1440p and look better.
Btw, use youtube vanced for 4k but use sparingly as it blocks ads. I wouldn't suggest using it very often because it doesn't support creators
What about on Samsung Dex or any kindof screen mirroring on external monitors? Any way to get the S7+ to send more than 1440p to an external monitor through any means?
For instance if you set the resolution to 4k with ADB, and then you mirror your display via a [email protected] usb-c / hdmi cable to your 4k screen, will the screen receive a 4k signal?
Can anyone (Stryker_Echo9er) try that?

If you have unlimited data and an old device lying around (all it has to be able to do is run the official Youtube app), you can leave the video playing on that device with ads while you watch on your S7 or whatever without ads. Best of both worlds, the only extra you pay is that little bit of electricity to run the other device.
YouTube now natively supports 4K HDR.
Now you can watch high quality 4K YouTube videos on Android phones
Support for 4K HDR playback was only there for iPhone users while Android smartphone users were only able to play YouTube videos at a maximum resolution of 1440 pixels.

I tried doing that on my 8-series Samsung TV, unfortunately, it doesn't work on my TV via USB-C (using an HDMI Dongle) or screen mirroring. I am not sure if it would work on displays with a type-c port.

Thanks for trying. But do you mean that it doesn't work at all, as in you can't use dex on your TV? Or does it mean it just doesn't do 4k?
