Best AOSP ROM as of now? - Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Questions & Answers

I'm not a big MIUI fan but until the initial 72 hours go by I'm stuck with it... However that doesn't stop me from looking into all kind of AOSP ROMs.
I know that I'll have to test and try them all myself, but I'm curious what all of you are using and why.
My biggest focus is definitely battery life (screen time more so than standby) and I'd love it if any of you could give me numbers on this as well.

Resurrection remix, OmniROM, and LineageOS all share code trees. The differences between them should rally just be the minor feature set differences. I personally use LineageOS, but that is just because I like Lineage.

RR from Arasthel is awesome, just very very bad battery life.
OmiRom, not as smooth as MIUI, but better battery life than RR (but slightly less than MIUI)

Funny you mention smoothness compared to MIUI.
I find MIUI to be a laggy mess.
So.. it seems Omni is the place to be for battery life?

They're all pretty much the same, Battery life is subjective.

is your device full or has 100 apps running at the background? Miui is very very smooth. If your phone is clean then something wrong is going on with your miui. Some people complained for problems after ota update. A clean install solve the problem.

To add to what @papavales is saying, check what apps have autostart enabled. Great feature from MIUI that gives you great control over resource hungry apps.

I've swtiched from MIUI to Omni weekly builds and Im surprised how good this ROM is. I find xiaomi.eu laggy like hell last time...

Had some time to run the battery through its paces yet? Debating on whether I should go with official or unofficial builds here.
Official would mean hassle-free OTA, but unofficial (judging from the changelog) seems to be better tweaked for our device?

In my opinion WEEKLY are better, but thats mine. More stable and in my example more smooth (?)

I've settled for unofficial lineage os for the time being (now that I'm unlocked I need to try them all) and I'm just so happy to be back on AOSP after being forced to endure MIUI for three days waiting on the unlock permission...
The recent screen and notification shade on that thing just kill it for me.
Back in MIUI 4 and 5 they still rocked more or less clean versions of these but everything that came after just ruined it for me.

Oxygen OS vs Cynaogen 13 OFFICIAL

What are real benefits of moving from OxygenOS to Cynaogen ?
I'm pretty happy with OxygenOS, but I'm wondering if I'm not missing something.
Is battery life better ? Overall performance of OP3 is great, does CM13 provide even better performance than Oxygen ?
My battery is better on CM, and CM is more customization, I just wish a stable build would be out and no more nightlys.

Dash charge works, srgb mode I think works I don't use it so no idea.
Battery life I did two tests, one on OOS, same apps, etc etc, settings. One on CM13.
I played 720p movies, on mx player, same brightness. I got 1 hour 30 extra playtime with CM than I did OOS.
Not the best test, but yeah.
LEDs work correctly on this unlike OxygenOS which just warps through rainbow colours for some odd reason. sRGB I toggle though a kernel app on CM
Camera on CM isn't as good as stock. Progress is being made on CM and there's a OOS camera app port project. As soon as the camera is good enough I'll switch to CM

I would go with Stock if i were you because it is far more stable than Cyanogenmod 13.0
If you want more customization then install Xposed and Gravitybox
For me the battery is better on Oxygen OS and it's very stable than CM13. Not sure if CM13 has pocket mode? The one thing Oxygen OS doesn't have is themes which works great on CM13.
Does CM13 have the full stock DND functionality? How does it work with the slider?
Cm sucks go for aosp
how about features of Camera in CM is that same as Oxygen OS?

on cm based roms wifi is really weak, camera not so good compared to oos. also, got some problems with gps. it's software issue, rma replaced motherboard to brand new.
I tried CM13 for one day. It killed my battery. It was a 20% difference. The CM OS was #1 in battery usage. It was unacceptable to me, and that is with Greenify running on both.
I LOVE the built-in permissions of CM so I don't need XPrivacy.
But I'm not giving up the battery life of OOS.
Your experience may be different but I don't have a compelling reason not to stay stock.
Using a different kernel may help with CM for me, but I'd don't feel like I need it that badly.
For me, battery life is almost the same on OOS vs. cm nightly, and the camera is a bit better on OOS.. There's only one thing why i use OOS, and that is the app opening speed. Much faster than CM, even if odexed.

One has pretty low score and another just the same. I was expecting 170K for a custom rom as Le Pro 3 typically gets 160-166K

That's kinda telling that the stock EUI rom is not as bad as many people thinks. I am not really expecting that the custom roms will perform better that stock roms anytime soon. This requires a lot of kernel level tweaking.

I think generally, most people don't complain about stock performance, but rather the UI. I don't have much of a problem with it other than I wish I could toggle WiFi on/off and go straight back to the app I was using. But that's minor.

I might give the Miui ROM a chance at some point. Anyone tried both CM 13 and this ROM? I wonder which one "feels" smoother... not really worried as much about synthetic benchmarks. I know the CM ROM scores lower on that end but it seems pretty smooth otherwise. Much lower benchmark score than stock, but it feels quicker to me.

I have, maybe CM, but they're all very fast/smooth. CM typically benches lower but feels slight faster than those 2. Miui is cool but has a few errors and a.lot.of Chinese bloat/menu items etc. Had to use google installer to get play store too. Battery on miui is insanely good though, even a bit better than stock for me. Not quite as good on CM but still OK. It has pretty aggressive touch boost and no built in greenify features. I ended up going back to CM personally. There's still notification issues on miui and stock in some apps. For example, I sold an item on eBay overnight on miui... Never got a notification for it (and I love that chaching!), nor PayPal notification that the item was paid.
Sent from my x727 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Thanks for the info and detailed response! Yeah, I've been pretty satisfied with CM even though it benches lower because it feels really snappy. Battery life definitely isn't as great as stock on CM but not bad at all with the huge battery. I may just stick with CM and wait for an update. That stinks that there's still notification issues with Miui.

While I wait 72 hours - Help me decide with ROM to install

Ok, so I am waiting the frankly ridiculous 72 hours to be able to unlock my Mix 2. Help me fill the time with chat about which ROM I should install.
I would like a stock Android Oreo experience with no bells or whistles. Is there more than one option, or should I just go with Lineage 15.1?
If you like stock oreo with no bells or whistles: Definitely AndyYan's LOS15.1. https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-mix-2/development/rom-lineageos-15-1-t3761585
If you like MIUI try the Community Roms from xiaomi.eu, i use there Roms for over 5 Month, and im happy, they have Stable and Weekly Roms.
Is there anyone who tried Lineage 15.1 from AndyYan after xiaomi.eu ROM? What about fluidity and battery life?

Recommend to me a good Oreo rom

Hey guys
I previously owned a Redmi Note 3 and flashed so many roms on that phone.
Now i just got a Redmi Note 5 Pro. Unlocked it. But currently I am very busy with assignments and don't have a lot of time.
So i can't keep flashing rom every few days.
Please recommend me a good Oreo rom. It should ideally not lag and have no random reboots. Basically I just want to flash and forget for a few months until Pie roms get very stable.
Thanks to all for their help.

Bro listen! Lineage os is most widely used custom rom in the world. Your device has official lineage os 15.1. So you should flash it & see if you're happy with it. Only customizations not present in los. After that you can try any other rom you want.

"Bro listen" - This does not sound like suggestion, rather like a command. What is good for you does not really mean that it will be for someone else. For example, on devices I have used, RN5 included, pure AOSP roms performed better than Cyanogenmod/LineageOS ones. They have been smoother and better in battery life.
Just because something is official it doesn't translate to a better than everything else, MIUI is an official rom from Xiaomi yet some releases were a bug fest.
I've tried LOS/RR and than jumped to AOSiP Oreo, that's close to pure AOSP but with additional useful features and it has been more stable, smoother and more battery friendly than LOS/RR and overall performance was consistent. In combination with Insigniux/Derp kernel it's great.
I've seen reports of MSM as great one as well, so that can be considered as well.
Anyway you'll have to try different rom and kernel combinations to see what works for you.

Exactly.
Although I can understand why some newer members are just dazzled by the "official" tag especially in context of LOS.
I especially dislike LOS because of lack of so many useful features. Why should I need to use xposed and 10 modules to get those features when I have root and recovery and I can simply flash a feature rich aosp rom.

Ok. I apologise if i gave someone wrong suggestion. But i was telling from my experience as for me los official always works great with no single bug till now. What i've seen is people sometimes complain a lot about problems in other new roms. So i was saying in that way. Thanks for your suggestion. I'll flash aosip with derp kernel.
One question tho. I want an oreo rom with battery life similar to miui 9.6. can you suggest me that rom? Miui 9.6 is giving me 12 hrs & 13 minutes of screen on time. Thanks in advance.

No need to apologise to me, since your post wasn't directed to me. You didn't suggest anything wrong, but the way you suggested it was a bit wrong. Anyway, AOSiP is a clean rom with good features and a default Derp kernel is great for battery life, I have had up to 14h of SOT (that depends on usage of course) but as far as I remember it was never below 10h.

Is there a top, middle and bottom one or do they share the same bugs?
I'm not new to the custom rom stuff but i've been out for a LONG ass time...

I'm between Crdroid, Arrow OS and Potato ASOP, what's my best bet in these 3?
I don't game on the phone so a snappy OS and good battery life is a must...
