Mi Max(hydrogen) bootloop after TWRP flashing - Xiaomi Mi Max Questions & Answers

Hi there.
I'm using Global Developer ROM(MIUI9, 8.4.19).
And I'm trying to flash TWRP and install Custom ROM.
I asked Xiaomi for unlock my bootloader, and after 72 hours I could unlock my phone.
After that, I flashed TWRP 3.2.1-4.
Method to flash :
1. Boot into fastboot mode(vol down + power)
2. On windows command prompt, type "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img", "fastboot reboot"
but I can't boot normally, only can boot fastboot & TWRP recovery.
I tried several methods.
1. Try LazyFlasher - bootloop, nothing was changed.
2. Try to flash another ROM(8.1 OmniROM) and gapps(OpenGapps, ARM64 pico) - same bootloop, with Omni bootlogo.
3. Try to flash OmniROM and LazyFlasher - same bootloop.
I can revoke my phone by Fastboot ROM and have no problem without trivial permission reset, but I can't use TWRP still.
Any methods to flash TWRP without bootloop?

flashing twrp doesnt cause bootloop. you went wrong somewhere. did you format system partition before flashing new rom?

Of course.
On the other hand, definitely, just flashing TWRP causes bootloop. I assume that stock beta rom might cause bootloop by incompatibility of TWRP, but I can't return to stock stable rom because I can't use TWRP recovery so I would lose all of my data.

try using stable rom. when i bought this phone2 years ago, i could flash twrp and root miui just fine

[SOLVED] HELP! i'm stuck in a boot loop! :(

my flashing history:
i was on audax (oos based nougat rom) with blu spark kernel before, then went to official ob1, then back to audax, then back to stock oos nougat and now i flashed audax and after clean flashing it, it just wont boot up.
when i try to boot up i see the 1+ logo but then it reboots to recovery. i also tried flashing stock nougat again and also flashed stock kernel manually but it also doesnt work.
i always do:
1. wipe system/dalvic/cache/data
2. install ROM
3. wipe dalvik/cache
4. flash magisk (also tried without flashing magisk)
5. reboot
i've been looking on the interwebs all day but nothing worked.. help pls :/
EDIT: problem was blu spark twrp. Maybe installing Oreo ****ed it up. I flashed codeworkx newest twrp universal build and now Im able to boot again!! Btw: I also found that magisk 15.0 prohibits a proper boot up and results in a boot loop. version 15.2, however, does the trick!
when it auto reboot to recovery, formate data
When s**t happens, it is wise to start everything from scratch:
-boot in fastboot mode and flash stock recovery with "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" (rename recovery.img with your recovery filename), then reboot recovery and select english, advanced, adb sideload;
-flash stock OS with "adb sideload rom.zip" (rename rom.zip with your Oxygen OS filename).
Procedure will require some minute because of the large file size. Remember to save all your data on internal storage first!
I advice you to flash original recovery because often sideloading in TWRP leads to some error.
Your phone will boot again... after that you may reflash TWRP, Magisk etc
I had the same issue. Bootloop and jumb into recovery by itself. You have to flash magisk 15.2 via recovery and will be boot.

He says that it occurs even without Magisk... I had a similar trouble once, and the only way to solve it was the procedure I wrote above...
I dont know if you can boot it w/o root

Why not? Stock OS is not rooted.

SOLVED! TWRP was the only variable left that I didn't think of. See initial post for solution. thx for help!

Please help, twrp can't stay and magisk erases the system..

Hi, just received my device, I followed this guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5t/how-to/oneplus-5t-unlock-bootloader-flash-twrp-t3704592 and when I reboot my phone, TWRP is replaced by the default recovery... Also when I flash magisk v15.3 my phone can't boot anymore and i got into fastboot mode.. I am running Oxygen os beta, thanks.
I tried everything, different twrp versions, etc... don't know what to do :/
Once you flash the twrp-recovery.img in fastboot are you using the command
Code:
fastboot boot twrp-recovery.IMG
to get into recovery and flash magisk or are you rebooting the phone?

I tried both the command you writed, and booting the recovery via the volume button in the fastboot mode.
TWRP boots correctly, then I flash oxygen os beta and all is ok, but when i try to return into recovery, i got the oxygen os recovery. When I install magisk I simply can't boot anymore.
I followed the instructions gived in the link
Why are you flashing beta after twrp? All that is doing is replacing TWRP with the stock recovery.
Flash beta and let the phone boot
Enter fastboot and flash twrp
Boot to twrp with command "fastboot boot twrp-recovery.IMG"
Flash magisk
Reboot to system

Bro try installing beta zip through adb sideload from twrp
The key is, after flashing TWRP, DON'T boot into system. Instead, boot into recovery right after flashing TWRP, and flash magisk.
Original OOS will replace the recovery, at least from my experience.
Hi guys, finally solved the problem. I had to download an alternate TWRP ( codeworks ). Also, only the beta version of Magisk worked. Now all is ok, thanks for your help

This has nothing to do with an alternative TWRP, you can't flash the ROM after TWRP, because ROM includes stock recovery, which or course replaces TWRP as it has been said before.
To "manifest" TWRP after flashing it, you need to boot into recovery before booting into the system.
It's quite simple if you just read the probably 100+ available guides.

Stock recovery automatically replace

Goodmorning, I've a strange problem with flashing recovery.
I used lastest fastboot
I've flashed the recovery (fastboot flash...) Then booted into it directly (fastboot boot recovery...) And obviously problems with mounting data.
The real problem is that when I reboot system , twrp is automatically erased and stock recovery is mounted.
I've tried everything, new recovery, new fastboot...
Please help me
That's standard with a lot of OEM ROMS on many different phones. You can flash magisk or SuperSU to preserve your flashed twrp.

That won't work, the no-verity-opt zip is needed to preserve twrp or it will always revert back to the stock one.
Go here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-mix-2/how-to/guide-mi-mix-2-unroot-restore-recovery-t3770690
And DL the TWRP & no-verity-opt-encrypt 1.6
follow the directions starting with
Open a command prompt and verify your device appears in fastboot
Then run
Code:
fastboot flash recovery C:\Twrp__chinese_Android8.img

- flash latest twrp https://twrp.me/xiaomi/xiaomimimix2.html
- reboot to recovery with hardware keys (volume-up + power) immediately after flashing
That solved the problem for me.

Done this several times, but I didn't use hard buttons, instead i used fastboot boot recovery.img command to reboot to recovery after flashing recovery. I also tried rebooting to recovery from twrp without problem, but after rebooted to system, twrp reverted to stock recovery, everytime.
I didn't have this problem with MIUI 10.3.1.0 with the same TWRP.
edit : I'm using TWRP 0330 btw, and somehow there was no swipe to allow modification confirmation when the phone rebooted to twrp for the 1st time after flashing twrp.
Wonder why.

Tks, but I don't have problem with TWRP 0330, it works fine, including touch screen, the problem is TWRP get replaced by Stock Recovery everytime I boot my my phone to system.
I don't want to root my phone, just like to have TWRP recovery around so I can use it to flash hosts file for ads blocking and some other things.
Someone told me i need to flash lazyflasher...I'm going to do it later ..

Boot to recovery through fastboot and then flash the image or the zip through TWRP, then to flash it reboot again to TWRP before to boot up to system.

Tried that too, actually more, boot to recovery from fastboot with fastboot boot recovery.img command and also hard button, boot to recovery from twrp recovery, flash recovery.img, boot to twrp recovery again twice, but stock recovery still came back.

No. don´t try to boot to recovery from fastboot after to flash it, don´t flash it through fastboot.
Do the next three steps and see what happens but do it exactly the same or won´t worth the try:
- In fastboot delete recovery partition by typing fastboot erase recovery
- Then reboot to recovery (don´t flash it yet) by typing fastboot boot twrp.img (rename recovery image firstly to twrp)
- Now once in TWRP flash the zip or image to the recovery partition, when you finish go to Reboot options within TWRP and choose recovery to boot to it before to boot up to system. If you boot at this instance to TWRP then the issue have to be solved, reboot normally to system.
Edit: If this way the problem is not solved then after to install TWRP flash Magisk that can prevent it to be overwritten.

OP7T ROM Installing Partition Error

After trying to install a custom ROM (PixelExperience for OnePlus 7T [hotdogb]) via fastboot, the installation flashing ended with errors with "no such partition" for odm, product and system I tried everything to get out of the fastboot screen loop. After finding a bat file with IMG files which got me on the Android 11 Beta 1. build (still no WiFi)
What can I do to fix the partition error to get on the Pixel Experience ROM or even get back to the stable build - I did try MSM but it isn't listing the phone even after pressing ENUM.
Please help...
Context (can skip): The latest stable build OOS for my 7T had issues with the microphone not working and so I decided to do a factory reset which resulted in having a clean install but now, WiFi doesn't connect for some reason. After trying some fixes I decided to install a custom ROM.
U need to flash stock recovery (fastboot flash recovery recovery.img) as twrp prevents fastbootD entry. Then type fastboot reboot fastboot to enter fastbootD. Then flash your rom. Personally, I just flash roms via Chinese twrp or 3.5.10 twrp

that was my process for the first try - entered fastbootD for the flashing process which ended with the mentioned partition error and the fastboot loop. I realised that TWRP version I got from TOOL ALL IN ONE wasn't going to work as it couldn't access data no matter what.
No twrp can decrypt oos or a11 custom roms data. Chinese twrp can access data only on a10 custom roms if u remove screen lock before booting into twrp for backup
What do you reckon I try this time then?
