Screen Protector - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

Hi guys, I just want your opinion.
As we all know, the s9 models are built with glasses in the front and back.
Do you think it's worth to sacrifice quality for protection? I mean, if you use a screen protector, it feels like you are typing on top of a plastic-ish quality, and somehow, your screen sensitivity is a little bit less sensitive even with increased touch sensitivity is on.
So what do you think? Do you use screen protector on your s9? Gorilla glass 5 is tough but maybe when dealing with scratches only, I dont think it can survive a drop.
I love using the phone off-case when Im at home or whenever I feel Im safe using the phone without drops to experience the feeling of this top notch design. And I am currently in dilemma, to whether or not put a screen protector on this guy considering I already have a spigen case.

I am thinking buy this case:

The Whitestone Dome for the S9 is a marvel of itself. It doesnt feel plasticky like all the other protectors that have adhesive only on the edges. Itll be the best 50 bucks you can spend on your S9. I will never use anything else.

I personally think as many others do that Gorilla Glass 5 is less scratch proof than previous versions. When you make glass more shatter resistant, you increase its flexibility and more flexibility, usually equates to softer material.

It surely is, however I already have the Spigen Liquid Air case and so far so good. It fits my screen protector so well.

Has anyone tried Moxie Liquid Screen Protector? (http://screenmoxie.com)
Bought my s9 launch week and decided to give it a try... So far so good. They warranty the screen ($300) if you scratch or break it. Just wondering if anyone's also tried it and what your thoughts or experience with it are.

I am really now in a dilemma whether or not gonna peel this tempered glass on top of gorilla glass 5. Some other users reported gorilla glass 5 is pretty tough when it comes to scratches, just put it in a separate pocket from keys

nobody uses non-liquid screen protectors?
I used a dry screen protector on my 3gs a few years ago and it was better than most liquid ones ive had on my droids since. I got a free dry screen protector with a Zenus leather flip case for my gs2, that was good.
I prefer SGP Ultra Oleo (Anti-Fingerprint)

I second that. Ultra Crystal gets too greasy, and Ultra Optics makes weird zip sounds when you swipe from the micro textures... Oleophobic is the best.

"Dies out"... as in scratches? Current one on my SGS2 still has 0 scratches, and I've had that thing on there for almost 6 months. Or, are you talking about anti-fingerprint capabilities? If you've used Ultra Crystal, then you'll realize just how much better Ultra Oleophobic is in that department.
I'm sorry guys, but i can't see any point in using screen protection.all sgs's comes with gorilla glass and this cannot be scratched in any way.
I've had 3 sgs(2 sgs1+1 sgs2) for the past 22 month and never ever made a scratch and i still got them all(nostalgic,i know).it's a waste of money.

You make me laugh... gorilla glass cant be scratched?
If you think you think it cant be scratched then rub some sand over your screen. Silica will scrattch you screen no problem!
I use the Martinfields screenprotector it's not liquid but can be removed and washed if necessary. I've used them on all my phones for the last god knows how many years. Easy to fit and practically unnoticeable.

This is terribly inaccurate. I think more than enough of us here have seen Gorilla Glass scratch (to our horro) to know otherwise. Gorilla Glass never even claims to be scratch proof, only highly scratch resistant. It's great that you haven't had any scratches though. I wish I was that fortunate.

No case but tempered glass

Hi guys,
I guess all of us know that the nexus 5 screen breaks fairly easy. Now my question is:
How high do you think the chance is, that the screen breaks if you drop it without a case but a glass protector? I currently have the spigen ultrafit and nilkin tempered glass but just love the phone naked...

Maybe I am wrong, but I really don't consider a screen protector to be impact protection, just scratch protection.
But even if I am wrong, a drop on the corner could shatter the screen, even with a very impact resistant screen protector. Most drops seem to impact the corner, not the screen.

So it would probably break screen and glass protector? Damn I was hoping I could use it without case

somehow i dont see that happening
I've been wondering the same thing. I am so sick of my case because it makes the phone so hard to use properly, but everything I've seen shows that you are not 100% safe unless you use a case. There was a post on the nexus 5 sub reddit of someone who dropped there phone with spigen slim armor on. You can tell from the pictures that the phone fell on its top where no case was covering it and it was cracked. I was thinking about even putting rhino skin on but even that according to emails people have sent to there customer service only protect against certain types of falls. Surprisingly it take 100% face down falls perfectly but anything more than 30% there is no guarantee that your screen won't crack. At over 30% degree your are relying on the outer casing of your phone to absorb enough impact not to crack the screen.

Pretty hostile don't you think? More and more companies are starting to offer impact resistant screen protectors. MIME, Rhino Shield, Nilken, etc. OP is simply asking if anyone has had any experience with just using one of these instead of a case. This most certainly isn't a dumb question. Let's keep using our bulky cases and not dare to innovate or question if there are better alternatives seems to be your logic.

pls show me one of these revolutionary glass screen protectors that will stop a screen from shattering when dropped from any angle. even if a screen protector was impact resistant, it would not be applicable in any use case other than the phone falling FLAT on the protector.
Yes my answer is harsh because the question posed by the op as well as your response are not given a single ounce of logic. At least my response HAD logic to it. No screen protector, by nature, will offer a phone any actual drop protection.
BUt nonetheless i was just wondering if anyone made an experience by using no case but a tempered glass protector. Maybe only the protector breaks who knows i was just asking so dont be so hostile
Actually, I had a spigen glass t protector on my s4 and it took a fall as I was getting out of the car...the protecter was spiderwed cracked and at this point unusable, but the screen itself was in pristine condition. Granted this was a fairly small drop, maybe 3ft and slid(yikes) another 2-3 ft and since I wasn't using a case the edges got a couple of small marks.
So in my experience having just a glass protector might save you from some dmg, it obviously won't keep you fully protected; everything's a tradeoff.
ok thanks^^ ill just use case and glass protector

Very similar situation here. S4 with whatever dumbass name Spigen gave their thinnest tempered glass screen protector (Nano Slim something something?). It fell probably about 4 feet flat on its face in a fitting room. Got a couple of extensive hairline fractures on the protector, but the actual phone itself was fine.
What that made me wonder is whether that impact would have cracked the naked screen, or if it was only enough to damage a screen protector. In any case, my naked screen was still fine.
i guess a 4 ft drop right on the screen wil shatter any screen..but its really reensuring to know that in the two cases stated, the screen actually survived
If you don't mind the feel it's still good to have a screen protector even if it doesn't protect from shattering because if the screen does break, then the shards will be contained.
Just use a SP and a leather pouch, I have one for all of my phones. When you slip the phone out of the pouch put it in your pocket.
I know a lot of drops happen when you're holding the phone, or when it slides off a table or something, but I've dropped the N4 from about 12 feet onto wood planks (it fell out of my middle sweater pocket while I was on a container van). It bounced and tumbled but only some of the exterior of the pouch was scuffed, the N4 was fine.

may be i am wrong but imo the thickness on sammy flagships are more than the nexus 5 specially
the glass on nexus 5 seem to be very thin(atleast according to the drop tests and reports of few owners)...which is really sad :crying: ...maybe to cut down the price
may be thats the reason why even if u drop s4 flat facing the screen it might survive without any damage (which it mostly does)
But I guess the only cases that actually protect the phone when it falls is a case like the neo hybrid etc and not hard Cases right?

Which screen protector to get?

I'm looking for a new screen protector for my 3T. Here's my requirements:
Tempered glass
Doesn't let dust get under it over time
Doesn't keep me from seeing pixels along the edges (rules out OnePlus 3/3T Curved Tempered Glass Screen Protector; see https://youtu.be/rVtWOmDrVGU?t=119)
Covers up the entire display area (rules out OnePlus 3/3T Tempered Glass Screen Protector; see my attached photo)
Works with at least one of the big protective cases like Otterbox Case for OnePlus 3/3T, Spigen Neo Hybrid OnePlus 3 Case / OnePlus 3T Case with Flexible Inner Protection and Reinforced Hard Bumper Frame for OnePlus 3 2016 - Gunmetal, or OnePlus 3T / OnePlus 3 Case, TUDIA Slim-Fit HEAVY DUTY [MERGE] EXTREME Protection / Rugged but Slim Dual Layer Case for OnePlus 3T, OnePlus 3 (Matte Black)
Are there any screen protectors that meet all of these criteria?
the unicorn..gl
Doesn't exist.. that I've seen.
Sigh... Why did OnePlus have to curve the screen? :crying:
Yeah, there's no good tempered glass protector. The only option is a plastic protector.

It comes off eventually, you get the rainbow effect and dust eventually gets underneath it as it only sticks to the edges.
I bought a couple of cheap ones off eBay that go around the home button and speaker. Don't even notice it's on most of the time. I get a little oil spill type effect but that's only when the screens off and not noticeable unless I look for it. Think the key is getting it really stuck down. When I first put it on I ended up with tobacco underneath it from my pocket but carefully took it off and reapplied it and so far it's been fine. Had it on about 2 months maybe 6 weeks and it's been great
I'm having the same issue as you. I'm not sure which tempered glass screen protector to use..
After a little search, it seems like the issue with the official curved screen protector from OnePlus has been fixed. I'm gonna bite the bullet and just go for that once, since it's "official". Will report back with images.

Where'd you see that? I'm under the impression that they said they were going to fix it, but all they ended up doing was adding a disclaimer about the problem to the description page.
Hey everyone,
I bought the curved tempered glass and it was so so so bad I removed it 1 minute after using it.
When you put your finger on the fingerprint sensor, I get the feeling that i'm putting my finger into a hole.
The feeling I get when I look at the screen, its the same as if my phone was outside a window...
It was expensive and I'm not using it. Tried to refund it and the support didnt allowed it.
The curved tempered glass does protect the whole phone into a point that it kills the whole feeling you get when
the phone is naked.
Please do not buy it!
I bought recently the normal tempered glass but I still didnt received it.
When it arrives I'll give some news.
I received these today and applied the first one perfectly. I can't tell there is anything on the screen. They do not attract smudges anymore than the phone's glass which is good.
I am more so trying to protect against micro scratches so do not necessarily need the better protection of glass.

Using the orzly v2 glass and its cool. Yes you can see the dot matrix in direct sunlight, yes you get random rainbow in in hot/humid places. But overall its usually clear and perfect. If you use a case it just blends in and although the extra height is daunting on the home button at first, after a month I can say I can't even tell anymore, not obtrusive at all.
Experience with official tempered glass protector
So just to share my experience with the official curved tempered glass protector from oneplus after using it for some weeks.
I'm using it with the Otterbox case and it does work well together overall. It did happen very rarely that an edge was pushed off by the case when the phone was in my pocket. The visibility of the edges of the screen is impaired, but not to the point that I find it disturbing in every day usage.
So my point is, overall this combination works well and provides good protection while adding reasonable bulk. I think it's a very solid choice as of now.

Yup, quite happy with that. But I'm not 100% persuaded that's actually tempered glass. I managed to get it chipped just by holding it in my pocket with some coins (I assume, as I never dropped it). Nothing major, but never happened with any other glass screen protector before. So, guess that's still going to provide some level of protection but wouldn't trust it too much for major protection.
Apart from that, that's ok for the price.
IMHO

It seems to have the same problem as the official OnePlus full-coverage protector where you lose some edge pixels, according to the 3-star review on the white model.
I'm on my 2nd Orzly V2 now and it's not too bad. I have limited rainbow affect which is only visible under fluorescent lights and the touch sensitivity is generally OK. It's not great by any means but it's adequate, will protect the screen and is the best out of a poor lot.

Are screen protectors really needed for the S8+?

As the title states, are they necessary? I've always used glass protectors but when I realised this was not really possible for the S7E I ended up using the Shark proof liquid screen protector here:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0178AURT8/ref=psdcmw_329083031_t1_B014UZJHW2
After 1 year of use I've had no scratches at all. I'm wandering is this due to the shark proof or just because I'm careful with the phone, rarely drop it and never have keys in the same pocket. Is the gorilla glass alone enough protection? Who has had no problems without using any sc screen protectors? Getting the S8+ soon.
Gorilla glass is flexible, not scratch or crack proof. Its use in mobile devices is an odd thing really since its not what its best at. I have a small scratch on my S8+, although its not noticeable, there are also very fine abrasions that you can only see at an angle with the screen off.
Unfortunately screen protectors for the S8 seem to be complete rubbish so far, not sure why since the S6 edge models had some really good ones. Im guessing there is a slight curve all around the screen edges on the S8 which make it harder to make one. The liquid protectors dont do much except make the screen more slick, so prevent anything capable of scratching from digging into the surface so quickly, kind of like how waxing a car helps prevent light swirl marks.
While I like the look and feel of the bare glass, I am more appreciative of a matte finish with reduced glare, so using one of the various matte screen protectors works out well for me. Oh the horror. I also don't trust leaving the glass bare in the various places I need to carry it, like a cycling backpack.
I highly recommend whitestone dome glass screen protector. Been using it since first week of release up until now. Its perfect if you install it correctly!

Thanks, just ordered. I hope it's not a problem with touching the edges.
Had the S8+ for a week before the screen developed a scratch . Depends on your area and what you do for work . Do you live in an area where there is alot of sand ? If so then higher probability you will get sand on the screen at some point without you realizing it and scratch it . Do you have an office job ? Do you go to school full time ? Do you work construction ? All factors that will determine if you screen can or will be scratched . Mine was scratched probably due to the fact I had a small spec of sand on my thumb without realizing it and swiped on my screen and boom scratch . I now have a screen shield on mine , cant see the scratch and wont scratch the screen further . But in the end its strictly your choice and how comfortable you will be with it . Glass scratches , I dont care of its Gorilla glass 4 , 6 , 15 or if they call it (Insert name here) Glass . Its friggen glass LOL

I have to agree that it depends on your usage. I have NEVER used a screen protector and have had very little issue. I think my Note 3 had a scratch from a fall once, but that was it. I always carry my phone in my shirt pocket but my gf puts it in her purse where there is alot of junk bouncing around. I guess she night benefit from one.

Question Query on screen protectors

There were replacement screen protectors for the main screen of the Z Fold2. I noticed Whitestone and other companies are advertising screen protectors for the Fold3. I assume these would be applied on the main screen directly as the Fold3 does not have a Samsung installed protector?
Also any recommendations for the front screen?
I believe the internal has a preinstalled screen protector. Same as the fold 2.
I was unable to get information if the exterior one has a screen protector or not.
I would think so since it seems normal for samsung now.

Idk I tried out the phone in store, and this iteration of the fold felt more like glass and less like plastic and I didn't see a noticeable screen protector like the Fold 2.
Thinking about getting Ferilinso Designed for Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 5G Flexible TPU Screen Protector. Just a precaution, rather safe than sorry.

They did say thicker protector and its tpu i believe.
I had screen protectors that feel "like glass" vs cheap plastic before.
Either way all a step in the right direction

Well whatever they did, I was very impressed with what I felt today and it made my decision to make the jump and pre-order
They changed the screen protector to PET, this is one of the best and most overlooked features.

Where did you find it in store? I haven't actually held one yet but my order is in. Thought about swinging by a Best Buy soon.

Best buy had one but it was off and I couldn't power it on, Verizon had one on and working, so I got to actually play with it. I'm telling you, the improvements they did to the folding screen are amazing imo. That's always been my thing that keep me from getting the fold, but as soon as I felt how much better it was on the 3, I went ahead and pre-ordered.

MrMobiles review advised they have used a new type of screen protector this year that ends underneath the bezels of the screen, so its more 'built in' than ever. It's also not made from TPU, so you wont get those nasty finger smudge marks as much.

Maybe they were tired of repair screens of people who ripped the protector off and somehow damaged the screen, lol. I changed screen protectors on my z Fold 2 weekly trying to find the right one and the screen was always perfect.
Also the PET screen protectors definitely don't smudge as much and they're easier to wipe off. I hope they're scratch resistant if they're making it harder to remove. I'm ocd about hairline scratches in my screen protectors. Drives me insane.
Hi, I have removed the screen protector on my fold2 and I'm using it for months without any protectors - I could not stand the plastic feelings - the glass touch is perfect on the fold2 and it does not scratch that much. I'm curious - as the fold 3 has now non removable PET layer - how it would be compared to the fold2 without any protectod vs the fold 3 ?
Watching some videos from Korea, and it seems Whitestone Dome has a UTG screen protector for the inner folding screen.
Sorry, video is in Korean, but no doubt you can work it out from watching.
Whitestone Dome Silk.

I think that thing is like $80.
My whitestone silk is arriving tomorrow, still waiting on my phone to ship out next week
I hope that this PET protector wil be still possible to remove to have nice glass experience.
On my fold 3 I can feel a edge from screen protector so it seems to be removable, it isn't embedded under the plastic frame.
You already have fold 3? Can you please tell me how is the feeling / touch on the built in PET protector? Is it glass like touch/look?

Yes that is correct I got mine on 18th August after ordering it on 11th August. I can say surface is smooth and feels good. Hardly any visible finger prints when device is on. Like it is with those plastic ones that makes it visible.
