Unable to Install SuperSU - patching sepolicy--failure abort - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

hey guys,
I was just trying to root so I can fix a broken alert slider problem.
Everything was going smoothly until trying to install the supersu.zip from TWRP.
No matter what I try, I can't seem to get it to install (downgraded to an older oneplus kernel, tried a more srecent version of supersu..)
The installation process stops at
- Patching sepolicy
--- Failure, aborting
What is the problem here? It does not seem to be a common issue so I am wondering what would cause it to occur on my phone and also how to install supersu.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you are on Oreo, flashing Magisk will solve the issue.

i too am having this issue. Installing magisk fixes the issue or it's just a bandaid? I don't really care for magisk and SuperSU is what I really want. I have 2 app that won't work without SuperSU

It is not a bandaid. Magisk has overtaken Supersu long back. It will fix this issue.

Super Mario Run

Just heard Super Mario Run has came out on android but its not showing as supported for my HTC 10 on the play store?? I tried the app from an alternative store and got an error message after being able to do the first level. Why would the HTC 10 not be supported. would a build prop edit make it work?
Edit: Looks like it might be because Im rooted, going to try Magisk.
Edit 2: seems to be working with Magisk installed, still not available on playstore though.
I installed it through the play store without any problem(root-magisk)

I'm glad this is working for someone.
Perhaps you could add some insight into what my issue may be? I'm sure others might be experiencing it.
I've Magisk v11.6 installed, "Properly rooted" via 2.79 SuperSu.
SafetyNet Failed: CTS Profile mismatch- is occurring though.
I followed these steps, but no success.
What could I try? Does anyone have advice?
I have downloaded it, and played the game successfully. I am stock, non-rooted. I have the unlocked version sold from HTC.

If you flashed Magisk, it would (attempt to) remove SuperSU and replace it with MagiskSU afaik. Incorrect on my part, apologies. It only removes SuperSU if it is not systemless.
If you have SuperSU, I think that may be the issue but I am not entirely sure. I remember issues with Magisk hide and SuperSU back on an earlier build.
EDIT: Have you togged Super Mario Run in the Magisk hide section of the Magisk Manager app?

Yes, it is working for un-rooted users. Rooted users, not so well in most cases.

Yes. I am able to run the tutorial level, then I receive error 804-5100.

you need magisk SU to be able to use magisk hide and pass safety net. supersu won't work.

Magisk problems in Moto Z2 Play

I can not install magisk modules and my device constantly loses its root without a reason.
I have the same problem. Magisk seems to be still buggy. But at least I haven't seen the "losing root" issue after disabling "Magisk Hide" in the settings.
Thanks

Thanks Romhippo.com for responding!
If anyone knows more about it, I'd be happy to know.
Had that issue on a One Plus 3T. Finally updated Magisk in the app and it fixed itself. Was really flakey on root.

Cool! I hope they also correct here.
Loosing root + possible fix
I was getting the same problem, magisk loosing root and phone getting encryptation problems... making me to format my phone twice.
After i noticed the problem was with magisk 13.3, so i tried to install 13.6 beta but no success, it give me error "Unable to detect boot image" during instalation.
Then i decided to mod magisk zip file (updater_script) , installed then and jrummy busybox (I think oldversions are conflicting with magiskSu)... and now i got 2 days without problem.

LoL Many thanks for your help. It's all normal here.
I'm going to agree on conflict issues being the likely cause. Between custom roms having su built in like Resurrection remix, SuperSU and standalone magisk, there are plenty of possibilities for messed up boot images.
In fact, 2 things bother me the most.
1. I can not install magisk modules
2. The magisk does not pass SafetyNet.
I do not know if that happens to you.
My Z2 is a verizon one so this is where my advice stops on that phone. I've Magisk on the 3T and pixel only
anyone have a guide to install Magisk?
Refer the following threads completely. Junior answered all my querries. His Moto Brazil blog has systematic and structured guides as well. Very well done.

Magisk modules not updating.

I tried uninstalling some modules to see if they were the cause I updated magisk to the beta channel in an attempt to fix it I also can't install new modules either. As far as I can tell I still have root as I have many things that rely on it. The logs are of the first time it happened I rebooted and it failed again giving me the second log. I reinstalled the 15.3 version of magisk and attempted to install a module it failed giving me the third log and the screenshot is after I upgraded magisk to the beta channel. @topjohnwu any idea what might be causing this I saw a post from a few months back but it didn't have a solution
is no one else having this issue?

Magisk No root prompts

^title, I haven't done anything new and all of the sudden today my magisksu will not prompt when apps request root with the log only saying superuser denied. I googled it and found posts dating back to 2017 about issues with this (which seems to happen 100% of the time when I have issues). I've done the fixes people said worked for them (turning off adaptive battery, repackaging magisk manager, rolling back to older magisk, taking magisk manager off the optimizing battery list, installing some adb fastboot ndk module thing, reinstalling magisk, full uninstall and reinstall, reflashing /boot /system and /vendor back to factory image stock.) and no luck. Has anyone else fixed this without a factory reset/reflash? Also at the same time this issue popped up I'm also having a really annoying time getting apps to install from the play store, it'll download say for instance 2.50 MB/2.50 MB 100% and just sit there for literally minutes before the app randomly says it's installed after the screen blacks out.
Oh also I'm getting no errors at all in the magisk log even entry is an informative.
Update: I was able to get solidexplorer to request root successfully but it literally too 3 minutes of waiting for the prompt to appear. I'm also getting errors in the log "write failed with 32: broken pipe" which I also saw in that forum post from 2017.

Are you using Adware?

Can you be specific?
-----
I don't have "adwares" but I have the same issue too. Surprisingly it persists when I reverted to last known good version. Which makes everything strange.
I could not afford a clean format at the moment. But until I have the time to do it (and hopefully it goes away), any suggestions to solve this would be extremely appreciated.
I am not using Pixel 3, but I use Nokia 6. Someone told me that it's a common Nokia issue, but being brought here at a very different device forum kind of prove a point that this is a bug that has to do with Magisk, and not Nokia-specific (or device-specific as for this case (maybe)) issue.

The page didnt help with my issue unfortunately
-------------------------------
I managed to solve my issue by actually formatting everything (including data). Painful 2 hrs for me lel. Now on 6.1 Manager and 7.3 Magisk and everything works as it should.
Since I formatted data, the issue may have something to do with magisk's leftover files.
Still, the problem with 18.x and 7.0 manager will always happen if i update. Fun fact: if you play around the root settings in Magisk Mgr, you may have a luck and the root prompt will appear. Unfortunately, the root prompt will only appear for the current boot. If you reboot, the problem is there again. Use this window of freedom to grant root to your apps.

Just a thought and maybe you do it but after each update instead of just directly rerooting, run the magisk uninstaller first.
Flash update
Reboot
Boot back to bootloader
Install TWRP, your phones method
Flash Magisk uninstaller.zip
Flash custom kernel if applicable
Flash magisk.zip
Reboot

Already did that too my friend. But never mind. I am done for

Increasing battery life through magisk

I tried rooting my OnePlus 7T to underclock It, but somehow the sound stopped working after I successfully root it. Is there anyone with a solution to this? ( Phone is the global version )
Did you obtain Magisk root?
Did you install any Magisk modules?
Uninstall any installed Magisk modules and see if that corrects the problem.
May be uninstall rootand see if that resolved the problem.
Restore the correct boot image and see if that corrects the problem.
Guess if that doesn't resolve the issue then try flashing the correct full stock ROM of the same version you have now? Should be able to accomplish that without a wipe.
That's just my best guess and the way in would think of trying to solve the issue.
I actually noticed that the phone went hard muted before i could even install any magisk module and also, here's the video instruction that i followed (
