Can't access download mode - bricked phone? - Razer Phone Questions & Answers

I'm pretty sure I permabricked this phone by:
* reflashing the stock system image
* flashboot --set-active=_b
* flashboot flash boot twrp-3.2.1-0-cheryl.img
Now I can't boot or access download mode - I was able to before by holding the volume down button when powering on.
Each of these steps I'd done many times before trying to getting a bootable LineageOS install. I was actually pretty close - ran into the enter decryption key problem, used twrp to "format data" to try to get a fresh decrypted data partition, but was now stuck at the endless os boot animation.
I had read the suggestion to reflash the stock image and try again when having this kind of issue. It seemed safe, I had done it before, but I think that this time for some reason, it left me in a bricked state.
Any suggestions for getting out? I'm basically stuck on the first black and white Razer logo screen that says "Powered by android". The phone isn't detectable as a USB device on any of my computers anymore and nothing I do seems to be able to get it into download mode.

I have done that a few times. Each time I powered on the phone and left it at the black and white razer logo screen until the battery drained. Then I plugged the phone into the wall charger for a few hours to make sure it was full again. Then I plugged the phone into my pc and do the volume down and power thing to get into download mode. I don't know why draining the battery and charging it helped me out, but I have had to do it a few times because I got stuck on that razer logo screen just like you are now.

I have always had to press 3 buttons not 2 to get into download. Vol down, power, and home (s7) or Bixby (s9). If I did not get them all right, I got your results.

No luck with waiting for the battery to die or the 3 button salute - pretty sure I'm hosed here. Let my experience be a lesson to others, Razer phones are quite easy to brick!

Razer phone has no physical home button. Only possible way is plugged usb from a non charging source like a computer or another phone and Vol down + power or plug in usb from a computer while volume down is held down.

So have you tried the following?
Hold volume up and power for the phone to hard shutdown and as soon as the screen goes black, let go of all buttons then plug a usb c to a cpmputer first then before pluging anything to the phone, hold volume down and as you are holding volume down, plug in the cable to the phone?

Hold power and volume up for a minute or more till it fully powers down. I don't remember having another device that took as long as this one to hard reset.

The trigger to enter fastboot seems to be holding the "vol down" key AND the usb cable attached to the pc. You should connect the cable first and then do the hard reboot+release keys+hold vol down

No difference. Always worked for me with phone powered off and holding the vol down and then plugging it in, tried that too and didn't work for me.

Hi i have found company (if you google "arykstore") that deals with hardbrick issues. They just started unbrick project on razer phone after my request for help. If they rise money to obtain working razer device they will extract and provide essential filles to resurrect any hardbricked razer phone.

What did you do? Have you put the phone in download mode? (Volume up while off plug in to PC) ive had that problem before and all i did was download mode and reload twrp.

Are you only letting go of the power button? It sounds like you are letting go of all the buttons at the same time.
Try -
Pulling battery, leave it out for a second or two
Put the battery in...If it powers on automagically, sticky power button as suggested.
If it's still off, hold both Vol keys and hit the power button..You'll see the Samsung logo and then a progressive slider...Should boot into recovery (Factory or custom)
Can't go into recovery? Press the vol up and power and make sure USB is connected and running ODIN or ADB and you should see Windows trying to install some drivers...

If you have a T989 and you pressed both volume keys and plugged the USB into your computer and couldn't get into download mode I am not sure what to tell you.
Buy a usb jig/dongle. With the phone off insert the dongle in the usb port of the phone and turn the phone on. It should put it into download mode. The fact you can see the Samsung logo indicates it isn't hard bricked and you should be able to get the phone into download mode. I also had issues getting into download mode when using the button combo so I got the usb dongle and it puts it into download mode every single time. They costs only a few bucks so it's worth giving it a shot.
Maybe its your data cable.

Tried 5 different cables INCLUDING a brand new one AND the original. It started with a charing port repair done by a "profressionals. Then the phone could charge, but could be recognized on a PC OR through download mode by odin. Which led to a hard reset, which led to it hanging on the samsung logo, which led to another hard reset, which led to a bootloop and no recognition through any program. Now i have a paper weight that can charge....

Is my M8 bricked?

Ok folks, normally I figure these things out but this one has me a bit concerned.
I was in ViperROM HUB and installed a font package, it needed to restart in recovery to install, so I allowed it. I turned to my computer and when I next looked at my phone the screen is off and refuses to come on. When depress the power button I get a vibration feedback but the screen won't come on. I tried VOL DOWN and POWER but nothing is happening. Im gonna let the battery run dead and see if that will resolve it.
Has anyone encountered anything like this before?

Hey!
I dont think its bricked.
Ghost helped me out with my problem, see below solution.
Try holding POWER + VOLUME UP for 20 seconds and it should restart.
However my case was different I was stuck in HTC logo screen and no way to restart.
On the M8 it is Power and Vol Up to perform a "battery pull".

Thanks grega_slo and gaiden0000 for the quick response and spot on advice.
I did that before but it didn't work, it works now…guess I didn't hold VOL UP long enough.
Yeah I didn`t know about VOLUP either
It scared the crap out of me when I S-OFFed the device and was stuck haha

Put the usb cable in then press vol up and power until it restarts. As soon as you hear the ding on your pc press and hold vol down and power, you should then boot into hboot MENU.

never seem to hear a 'ding' or any other sound but no matter how I time it - power/vol up then power/vol down still results in htc splash then just black. Phone was quite warm (not quite hot) when I went to bed last night and this morning battery was at "0". When I first plugged it in and pushed the power button it alternated from the battery charging display to the TWRP locked screen but I couldn't seem to get it to stay on the TWRP screen no matter what I did. Now that I've used power/vol up I don't seem to get the battery or TWRP. just black or when trying power/vol up I get the splash. Power/vol down gives nothing - just black
EDIT: Just tried - let battery go dead. Plug in to computer hold power/vol down. Screen goes from battery icon to blank and back to battery icon.
EDIT: Pulled and reformatted sd card in Evo 4g LTE. Retried fastboot command still just shows "waiting for device". Even tried adb reboot bootloader and reply "device not found"
Could I use adb to reflash ruu? If so would the command be adb flash (filename)
Was beginning to lose hope of ever fixing this but a HUGE shout out to Simer03 who provided the critical piece of information - namely - add a ROM zip to your sd card. Hope nobody else ever has this problem but just in case
Post #4 here
Nothing is going to work unless you can either enter the boot loader or boot into the os.
You should still be able to access hboot unless that is corrupt. At the very least you need to hear the ding on your pc so you know the pc has recognized your device is connected.
Try again with vol up and power, hold until it reboots you should then hear that ding. If not check you have the necessary usb drivers installed on your pc or try a different usb cable.

Stock, can't get into recovery/download modes

Hi guys. Im pretty experienced with android but this one has me stumped. My buddies brother has a stock/non-rooted optimus g e971 on Rogers. He changed his screen lock password and forgot what it is. Of course he never register a Gmail account so I can't recover that way. I figure no problem. Shut down, pwr+vol down to factory reset. Well nope doesn't work. It flashes the lg logo twice then boots like normal.
Ok so I figure I'll just put it in download mode/fast boot to do the factory reset. Tried pwr+vol up. Nope. Vol up+vol down+pwr. Nope. Vol up+vol down and plug usb+pwr. Nope. It just flashed the lg logo twice then boots like normal. I've tried multiple variations of each holding the pwr for different lengths of time, always with the same result.
Anyone have any suggestions? It's not bricked, and the vol keys are working, it just won't go into any modes.
also I dont know if he has hardware encryption enabled (of if thats even an option on this device) but would that even prevent me from getting into factory reset / download mode?
Also I check that the vol rocker is working. when it is on but screen is off, if i click the vol rocker either way it wakes the screen.
I have a similar problem. Here's a thread I made about it http://forum.xda-developers.com/optimus-g-intl/help/enter-download-mode-t2883542.A couple of guys had some ideas.None worked in my phone but maybe you're luckier.
If you haven't done that already you should try going into download mode by pressing power up+down and plug the cable, don't press the pwr button.
If you find a solution pls let me know .
Yup, you shouldn't need to press the power button for download mode.
First, make sure you have the LG United Mobile drivers installed on the PC you're using. Then plug your USB cable into the PC (not the phone yet). Simultaneously press and hold the Vol +/- buttons, and hold for 10 seconds. Then while still holding the vol buttons, connect the micro usb to the phone.

Hard bricked my M8 (help appreciated)

Hello,
Ill tell you a short story how I got this phone bricked.
So i got a OTA update to 6.0.1 (as I remember) and the phone started acting crazy. "system UI stopped working" message showed up once an hour and after that phone reboots. I got tired of my phone rebooting all the time so Ive decided to root it and install a custom ROM. Ive successfully rooted it, instelled TWRP and flashed a HTC M8 google play eddition rom on my phone. Everything was smooth except that it didnt recognize the SIM card and (again) it kept rebooting once an hour out of nowhere (this time the restart was immediate. No "system UI has stopped" message appeared). So i flashed another rom.. (silly me). I flashed a M8 HD Revolution rom because it was the most popular one and I thought it will fix all my problems. I flashed it successfully, the phone booted, it started optimizing apps and then shut down. I tried to turn it on again, it started optimizing apps again and after it finished optimizing ir shut down again. And that was the last time I saw my phone atleast trying to boot.
After all that I tried all the button combinations (vol up + power, vol down + power, vol up + vol down + power), Ive red alot and tried the same combinations with different timing. IT WONT BOOT INTO BOOTLOADER. adb and fastboot commands does not work also. When I connect my phone to a pc i was able to hear a windows connection sound, after 5-10 secs i hear a disconnect sound, after 5 secs it connects again, and disconects again ang again and again.... I managed to screen shot my device manager screen and saw Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 in the device list appearing and disappearing every 10 secs. I googled it and found some info that I might have hard bricked my htc. I didnt have much time at that moment to dive into the ocean of information and decided to leave my phone connected to a charger overnight. NOW my phone is dead (100%). No flashing lights, no *connected/disconnected to a pc* sound, the screen is black, it wont turn on - no signs of life..
Is there anything that I can do? (the warranty is voided)
Could it be that the battery was damaged and it was the issue of my phone restarting all the time?
Any help will be much appreciated
*dont mind my english*
Are you s-on or off? Its very hard to brick this device flashing ROMs with s-on.
Try leaving the phone on charger for a few hours, then hold power+vol up for a minute or so. Most folks don't realize you have to hold the buttons for so long in this "no boot" condition, and start to freak out. I've done it myself!

I left my phone to charge overnight and the LED light came on (Its a really good sign). At first it was flashing orange, later it was only orange and now its green, so that means that my battery was fully drained. However, I tried holdin power + vol up for atleast 3-4 minutes but nothing happened except that the LED light is not greeen nor orange anymore. If I connect my phone to a pc, in the device manager "Qualcomm HS-usb qdloader 9008" shows up for 20-30 seconds and dissapears, after few secs it reappears again and so on. I was looking for a solution for a few hours and I think I found a decent tutorial how to unbrick it but Im not able to find neccesary firmware for my phone because I dont know my CID (link: http://www.droidsavvy.com/unbrick-qualcomm-mobiles/). Any other ideas?
BTW, thank you very much for trying to help
I've never seen these "unbricking" guides work on this device. If you can't get to at least bootloader, you are probably looking at JTAG, new motherboard, or new phone.
Really, your best bet is to keep playing with the button combos with the charger attached and unattached.

NOOB: hard bricked op3, volume up button hasn't been working

First off, I did do a search, but as far as I can tell no one has had this problem so far.
This is all after modding using a tool kit: (i can't include the url but it is the toolkit by neisor on the oneplus forums)
tldr: phone stuck in bootloop, computer wont recognize the phone, maybe because it keeps shutting off and then booting to the 1+ logo, then shutting off again, would drivers help? what can I do about the volume up button?
So for a while my volume up button hasn't been working, and the mega unbrick post shows that I need to hold the volume up button for at least 25 seconds and while holding, plug my phone in. I have also seen some posts that say the volume up button could be a software issue, and the button itself could be working, and it is just not registering, as well as someone saying that you could take the back off and manually press the button, instead of using the bar on the outside of the phone (would this work?). I have gotten the button to work in the past by pressing the volume up button to the side instead of straight in, but I haven't been able to get it to work since my phone got bricked.
Another issue: my phone is stuck in a boot loop, I can't access fastboot, and I'm unsure of recovery because my volume up button is not working. would it be worth it to deal with the constant vibrating to try to get it to recovery?
I have been able to shut the phone off by holding the power button for something like a minute and a half, though.
This is my first post, and if I have broken any rules I am very sorry, but I need help and am tired of not having a phone.
Thank you everyone,
Mark
Edit: this is what I did to root the phone:
1. download the toolkit
2. unlock bootloader (when fastbooting the phone said unlocked at the bottom, and a message about not being secure showed every time I rebooted the phone)
3. flashed twrp (no issues, still booted, recovery went to twrp. for some reason I had to flash multiple times as every now and then recovery would revert to stock op, although I did make a backup through twrp)
4. send supersu zip file to phone, install using twrp (phone would not boot, op logo stayed on phone for 2 hrs + until I rebooted to fastboot and tried to reinstall the backup I made, still nothing)
5. Try magisk (still stuck on op logo)
6. try to go back to stock, accidentally lock bootloader (now the phone is stuck in bootloop, don't know what to do from here as I cant get to fastboot and am unsure of recovery's accessibility.)
If you are sure you have a broken volume button, you need to replace it first in order to get the phone fix.
Correction:
Fastboot/bootloader = Power+Vol Up
Recovery = Power+Vol Down
This happened to me except I didn't even get anything appear on the screen -- the phone just periodically vibrated with the screen not even light up. I tried the reset toolkit which is meant to flash your phone back to normal using Qualcomm drivers or something, but that didn't work either. Eventually I had to send it to OnePlus who fixed it for free in under a week! They said the motherboard had failed.
I hope you get this fixed!
Thanks

thanks for the correction, I will keep trying the volume buttons, if it doesn't work by the end of today I will search for a new volume button.
Thanks again,

Damn, that sucks, and besides being unfixable (doubt it), this is my biggest fear. I'm in the US and really don't want to have to ship my phone to china to have it fixed. If you are in the US as well do you know if there is a OnePlus branch I can send it to in the US?
Thank you,
Mark

There seems to be one in Texas. Anyway, contact OnePlus and they may try to solve it over the air.
Apart from that, did you install the Qualcom drivers properly? Even with your faulty power button, try to hold it down for 40+ seconds (for the phone to switch off) and then immediately hold down the volume up button for 10 seconds and then plug in the phone to the PC. I know I am merely repeating the instructions of Naman Bhalla in his Mega Unbrick Guide but it is crucial to do them correctly especially the installation of the drivers. Try these steps repeatedly because for some people, the phone gets recognised after repeated attempts. Or else replace the power button and then try these steps.
I had to use the Guide last month and successfully resurrected my dead phone.

Can you boot into recovery by pressing power+volume down buttons?
Update: Got phone to show on computer as qualcomm under coms and ports
So last night I went ahead and held volume up for about 20 seconds, then plugged the phone in, keeping the volume up button pressed the entire time. my phone stopped bootlooping and showed up as a qualcom device! So I have downloaded the new driver the stock os, and am going to proceed to try to unbrick my phone.
Wish me luck,
Mark
Yes, I did, and its working so far

I still need to turn off the signed drivers features ( a huge bi*ch, I have to use another computer to contact microsoft or something to get my computer to load when I turn off safe boot or whatever its called), but once I do that I can install the driver and attempt to reinstall the stock os. Hopefully everything will go well.
Thank you,
Mark
Not as far as I know

So far recovery has not been loading, just the bootloop, but I have gotten the phone to power off by pressing the power button for 40 seconds, and the volume up button plus plugging in does make the phone register as qualcom 9008 or something like that. Basically everything is going well so far, and the faulty vol button seems to have been a software bug, as it does work when plugging it in. I will try to get to fast boot, but it did not work last time.
Thank you,
Mark
