Does the phone come with a free case? - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

I am really worried about this to the point where I am considering keeping the phone in the box until my ordered case come...
So does it come with a case?
Please state your country...

No, never heard of any new Samsungs coming with a case
UK

Mine came with one clear case. Dubai. Great to protect right off the box.

It does in Israel.

Nearly bought the Spigen 360 today, but noticed it doesn't have a lip above the screen so any drops onto the screen will still break it, bought the Spigen Rugged Armour for it instead

It's a very nice case, but doesn't offer the protection I am looking for, I had the Spigen Rugged Armour for my S7 too, very nice case

It must be a country thing. All that comes with the US version is a set of ear buds.

Free cases are region dependent for the S9. To my knowledge, both the North American and European markets do not come with any case. The rest of the world however, get the free clear case in the box.

But this Rugged Armour does not protect the front glass that in my opinion it is the most important.

You mean with a screen protector?
I would prefer a lip above the screen face to protect from falls and drops onto the screen, than a piece of glass/plastic over the screen and the screen itself still above the edge of the case
Plus I keep touching the screen when taking photos and changing the mode by mistake, I need a bezel to stop that happening

if you drop your phone against a stone for example, it will not protect your screen. I will try my case because it was the only one that protect the front face. It will be a try.
I guess sharing different opinions will be very useful for everybody to find the best case to protect our phones.

Alluminium seems not to protect enough IMHO...
p.s. I have already the original crystal case from 1+1 store but it's too slippery ( I'm thinking to use on it the sandpaper to make it less sleppery, what's your opinion? )
Thank you all
I recently got the Diztronic Ultra TPU case (cannot post links yet, but googling it will take you to their site right away), would you consider that a bumper case? Seems like it offers decent protection and the looks and build quality is pretty solid as well.
Seems good but I cant understand if it has the back or not.. I prefer not to have it because I like the matte back of my OPO
Those kind of bumpers don't exist for the OPO unfortunately. Evolutive Labs failed to kickstart one, and then there's the aluminum one...
I've looked all over.
Diztronic cases have a backing.
Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
That's very strange! Does the diztronic is thick or fits well in the pocket?
Indeed mate I'm looking for a bumper like this, can't believe there's only the cheap aluminum one.

why doesn't someone get a normal tpu case and use a hot copper wire to cut out the back? it'll basically be a bumper and it'll look pretty decent
People, don't go and buy cases and think that cutting out the back would make a bumper case, it does not. The case looses all rigidity and the middle section is all floppy. I did this on a galaxy nexus and lg g3 case, neither time did it work. A bumper case is engineered differently to be rigid all around. Don't waste money thinking cutting a case would work.
Just my 2 cents.

The two parts are made from two different parts so they can be taken apart if enough force is applied. We would not advise this as the polycarbonate back is there to protect the back of your handset.
The G3 case I used was basically the same, hard back and tpu bumper, was the same, floppy once removed. It really makes no sense destroying a perfectly good case.
bump...
any bumper yet?
Hey! I use TPU diztronic case ( the one with bumpers on corners )
It protected my device when it feel on corners .
Makes your phone a bit heavy and shabby too.
Back doesn't feel like the sandstone , but we have to compromise for protection.
it is unbelievable that the oneplus one has no accessories at all!
the diztronic case is very expansive.. as there are no alternatives.
Diztronic here too.
I've had this Diztronic on my OPO for 2 years now, has protected several corner falls on concrete..

Naked or case?

How will you use this beautiful phone?

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Always a case; I'm just not that coordinated to ensure I won't drop it. I try to keep a clear TPU on mine so I can appreciate the metal finish. (And I just cannot possibly comprehend the attraction of someone "skinning" a unibody metal object to "look" like it's wood.)
I have had the Iceview case on my test unit (because that's how they wanted us to test it), but I put a Fosmon clear TPU on my own device. I might every once in a while slip it into an Iceview: (1) when the price comes down and; (2) if they ever come up with a clear-backed Iceview like the Dotview Ice case for the M9.
Naked. The 10 is too nice to wrap in plastic.
Naked. I will point out though, be very careful of having the phone up against your shoulder as the finish will not give you any grip. I've already nearly dropped it twice and it's a problem I didn't have on my m8.
naked... I never use a case or screen protector. Only once out of 10 or so smart phones has this decision bit me.

My spigen neo hybrid will be here tomorrow along with screen protectors. I hate covering it with a case but I'm way too anal about my devices being in mint condition. I don't drop my phones and can count on one hand how many times I've dropped any of them in the last 10 years but these metal finishes are too slick to risk it.

Semi Naked
I have being using HTC phones for the last 6 years changing it every year. When I got the HTC One M7, I asked my self "what is the point to have such a beautiful phone to hide it inside of an ugly case?.
I did not wanted it to be damaged (Flagship phones are not cheap), therefore I started looking for some alternatives, I tried different products, some of them make the phone opaque make the phone to look completely different, some did not last and peel off easily, others, did not work with globes, and so on. Finally I found the " Invisible Shield" from Zaggs and so far I am really satisfied with the product.
It is film that self stick to the phone and it is completely transparent, it is like a gel with memory so it will absorb the impact in case of a phone drop and it covers the full body, therefore you can still enjoy the beauty of the phone with some sort of protection. On top of that it gives the phone an extra grip since the metal bodies are kind of slippery. The only bad thing is that you will probably have to change it twice a year since it peels off a little on the corners of the phone, probably because of the round corners of all the HTC devices.
Last year when i got my HTC One M9, I only installed the Invisible shield on the back of the phone and I had nothing to protect the screen. As of today my screen is still scratch free. Probably because of the Gorilla Glass.
I got my new HTC 10 today, unfortunately Zagg does not have the invisible shield for it yet, so I guess i will take my chances and use it naked until the invisible shield for it becomes available.
dbrand skinned him... waiting for the shipment so far....

Outside of pretty, i believe HTC Ones are struddy enough to be able to handle a few drops, or in-pocket stratches. as long as you can live with lil marks here and there, "go naked"!
I got the Spigen thin case to start with. It has a grippy feel to it, so that helps. I tried going naked w/ my current chrome Xperia Z5 premium for a few days (w/ the glass protectors on both side), but it was too slippery and I was afraid I'd drop it. Plus someone mentioned how the 10's camera lens sticks out - I wouldn't want to lay it face down on it either. I've had phone camera lenses scratched before.

I ordered the exact same one, mainly because of the full coverage & rounded edges.
I'm interested if anyone finds one that fits. I've tried some Amazon ones. Either you get a halo, too short et .. Fortunately I could return all those.
I have on order two more hopefully to find one that'll fit...
I also ordered one that is probably the same thing but from a different seller.

Unfortunately that is glue only around the edges.
Same as the one I bought from Amazon.
It's not worth it, you'll notice the corners are less responsive. And given time the protector will literally fall off the phone as and when you drop the phone.
I found orzly and nillkin. What do you think about.

the nillkins are made smaller so they're not an edge to edge, but unless someone makes a 100% functioning edge to edge protector it may end up teh way to go.

Thank you, ordered H+ Pro from Nillkin. (Used them previously, awesome quality).
I ordered Mikvon screen protectors from Amazon they don't' go edge to edge and they are not glass (it's silicone) but they also offer a back protector that cover the metal portion of the rear. For those that want to go case-less it's a cheap alternative. The material is pretty smooth and feels close to vinyl. I tried to intentionally scratch it and it does scratch up but at least it'll protect the phone itself. Still waiting for my other stuff to arrive.

I've received it.
The size is perfect and it covers the screen and sides fully.
But, the edges only are glued so it may pop up easily.
Also the protector is too much reflective, my phone looks like a cheap toy and it's hard to read text.

In my opinion the protection is great for the thickness it adds to the phone, which isn't much. It fits really tight onto the phone and has a good amount of lip on the edges of the screen. My favorite function is the grip it adds.

I have the spigen rugged armor and it's amazing. I rarely drop my phone but if I did more often I wouldn't like how thin the corners are on the one I got truly. But it works for me great. Doesn't add bulk at all and protects the camera lens I've always wanted a spec but hated their prices

Yeah, I want the black one, though. I might wait a while until the price (hopefully) goes down a bit. Just ordered the new DBrand black dragon skin, so I'll see if that gives enough grip to make me go without a case for a while. I really like the metal edges of the phone, so I'd like to go caseless as long as it isn't slippery.

Oh, and if your people feel like sending a black case my way, just let me know

No goriila glass, issue or not?

Have got slightly bored trying to find a mate 20 pro that is not affected by gluegate or green edges so have started to look at the view 20 as it looks very interesting.
One thing that jumped out of the specs was the lack of gorilla glass. How much of an issue is this and how otherwise sturdy is the phone? I'm equally worried about scratch resistance as well as drop/smash.
For those who have it, how are you finding it?

This phone is a must buy. Especially for the price. You get the same performance as the mate 20 Pro and a 48 mp camera. The build and design is very good too. The screen is flat meaning it doesn't go I've rthe Edge of the glass but I prefer it like this. For the screen, I just placed a glass screen protector on top of it once I got it
I do not do screen protectors or cases (live life on the edge!) This does mean though that I am always careful with my devices, I even used a pixel 3xl for a month and it was unmarked when I sold it!
I decided to take a punt and picked it up last night, will post some impressions later. It's not Gorilla glass but I would like to know what it is, I guess time will tell as to how robust it is.

I wouldn't call it thin, it is quite thick. Not sure if replacing it with a glass protector is a good idea, do they have the right holes for sensors and the camera? If you notice there is a small notch on the right side of the screen for a sensor.

Honor phones are very sturdy. Before upgrading to the View 20, I had a 9 lite (pretty budget device). I owned the phone for over a year and used it intensively every single day using only the clear soft plastic case that came with the phone, and never got a so much as a scratch on it. I've been using the View 20 since the 2nd of February using the same plastic case that came in the V20 box, and don't have so much as a blemish on any part of the phone other than my fingerprints.
It's also worth noting that the V20 does come with a screen protector pre-applied to the phone, so you don't actually need to buy one.
