jelly scroll on s9?? - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

Hey guys,
I noticed in a few occasions this issue. Specially in low light. Can anyone try to download this picture, zoom in and scroll and report their experience ? I don't it's just my unit... Thank you

I get this as well, but only in very low brightness. I think it is just the amoled screen ghosting which is common with pure blacks

Yeah it's normal with AMOLED in low light with low brightness. Black smear. It's been happening since at least the Galaxy s7

Thanks I was just trying to figure out if my unit was faulty and needed to be sent back for repair or if it's the nature of this screen. Out of curiosity I wonder if iPhone x display suffers from this as well. Also I heard Samsung galaxy s8 did not have this issue??

Thanks for your feedback. It's a shame though.. Luckily this happens rarely.

Grainy Screen?

I moved from the atrix to the gnex about a week ago, and I love EVERYTHING about this phone!
However, I noticed one thing that really disappointed me, when in low brightness and low light, the screen produces somewhat of a meshy, grainy pattern, almost as someone put sandpaper between the glass and display.
I also heard that this is somewhat of a widespread problem, so i'm wondering, how many of you have this issue?

Me. But like you said it's only when the brightness is low, and its not very noticeable to me.

Funny that you consider it a problem as it is actually what I love most about the screen. It gives it a sort of smooth textured look, I think. I like it.
Got that same. Little issue but you will used to it.
the mesh/newspaper pattern is very visible in low light, but if I turn up the brightness it gets better. I don't know, I was planning on sending it back to google tomorrow, but since this is a widespread problem, I don't want to end up with a device with the same problem or worse. I guess I can live with it, but i'm kinda ocd about it lol
Have the same issue and I also have the purple tint on the lowest brightness. Got used to it after a day, seems like all of the gnexus have one issue or the other. I still think that this phone is amazing even with its slight issues.
Edit: Check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1520566out lots of people have the same issues ( I wouldn't exchange it and I'm very ocd when it comes to my things)

You get used to the screen's shortcomings.

It's the type of screen that's being used.
I've owned every Nexus phone so far and they all have this issue. You get used to it.

I don't think so, because the captivate and galaxy s i9000 have pen tile amoled screens and do not suffer from this issue at all. Its really weird
It is because of the combination of both pentile display and very high pixel density, and that's why the lower dpi screen even pentile does not have this

If you are taking a picture with low light, candle light or very little ambient light then the picture may come out underexposed (dark) and grainy (noise due to low light). Both problems are associated with low light. Even expensive DSLRs are susceptible to noise in low light however the small camera sensor found in the Note 2 makes it even more apparent.

I have the same issue but when I use any third party camera apps I,m getting less "grain" compared to the stock camera app. Any idea whats wrong? Is it a software issue or do I have to get it replaced?
It seems people started to noticed camera issue. I hope other people could shed some light .

I'm getting excessive graininess too, definitely more noticeable than the original note, could this be fixed by a software update? Or is it game over due to the hardware?
I don't know if the camera is dark but the led Flash sure is. It's not as strong as my previous S2. This indeed is bothering me.

Noticed this earlier. The live shot on the screen was perfect but the captured image was darker.
Any way to just capture as is? I.e. what you see is what you get?

Are you sure it's not because the screen goes to full brightness in camera? It does when you have auto-brightness on, anyway.

Ah, could well be that. Cheers!
well my brightness is always full and still this issue exists, can anyone else shed any light on this?
Its a known issue with international note 2 version. From what i know. its a hardware issue!
Low light pictures are definitely grainy without flash. But aside from this, I can't really say the pictures from my Note II are dark.
Try switching your Metering mode to Matrix?

IMO its a software issue i've been trying out a lot of third party camera apps and the noise(grainy-ness) is a lot different from the stock camera app. It would be really helpful if some developer looks into this.

Agree, i like the camera on note 1 much more than note 2, to me note 2 beats note 1 in all areas except in camera.

I was going through the review on gsmarena, they have mentioned the camera to be better than the note 1 and really close to the S3 can someone confirm that the graininess is common on all note 2s or only the ones who have already discussed it here ??

Screen issues

I've had 2 Oneplus 3's now, and am now in the process of sending the second unit back for a replacement.
This because the screen wasn't functioning properly, there was lightbleed on both and the screen had a green tint on one side and a red tint on the other side.
Has anyone else experienced issues like this? Is it a known problem, big or small? Or am I just in really bad luck by recieving a bad screen 2 times in a row.
No issue here. Wish the screen was brighter but at least its the same as my g4

The problems you're describing are physically impossible on a Super AMOLED display... and to say that it has happened to both OP3s you received is just as absurd. The pre-applied screen protector is pretty crappy, but I mean c'mon... Are you one of those guys who returns things with the smallest imperfections, or perceived imperfections in this case?

Woah there, I have no idea how it is possible to have the problems I have, I know that with lcd sometimes the glue causes the device to be lit unevenly, don't know if that could be the case, but it seemed a little off. I tested this using this video on full brightness: https://youtu.be/vu0mQa2EpS4
While going from. Grey to black, the pixels should all turn of at the same time, or at least, that's how I think it should be on amoled. But this wasn't the case on both devices.
As for the different tint problem, that does bother me a lot more, reading Web with a changing color if you read from left to right isn't that good for the eyes or at least It bothered me.

Here are some pictures, it's quite difficult to recreate on camera like I see them but this gives a general idea of what my issues were with the first device. The first being the screen tint, on the left of the screen it seems to be more red and on the right more green, while this is a Grey background at about 50% brightness. The second is how the screen is unevenly lit while on a solid Grey low brightness background.

I just watched that LCD test video and firstly my eyes hurt from the bright white light secondly I am quite picky and having come from the g4 which I thought had a great screen (few bleed issues though) I am quite happy. I couldn't see anything at all on my unit like you have so maybe it's device specific?
I have noticed this weird thing though and it's when I use MX player pro to watch films. I have been watching the dark night for like the 20th time on th op3 but do notice the skin tones look a little warm and when i increase brightness it gets worst. I think this is a combination of the pentile display and the AMOLED screen with a lower resolution than we would like. I am sure I remember my galaxy note 3 and wife's s5 looking like this also but could be wrong.
Overall it is strange using g4 then using op3 it's hard to explain but they are just different not just LCD / AMOLED but the calibration also. Love the blacks though it's like the phone is off when the screen goes dark. Nice.

So the screen turned black fully at the same time, well there's a logo on screen, but apart from that all black?
I know what you mean by that, I think thats in all screens, not sure, but I had it in both screens but also the problems occurred on them too, maybe that's a feature, I at least won't mind at night when the screen is that low and a bit more warm toned. I saw it on a selfie I got on whatsapp, at night when I got it, I saw her face normal, but when I set the screen brighter, I also saw that the photo also had a background! which was invisible and dark on the lowest brightness.
no issues
Didn't see a logo. Must be blind

Smallest imperfection? He uses the screen all the time and notices that all the time, how is that small imperfection? Also amoled screens are known for the issues he described. All screens have that issue. Just people like you are not good enough to notice it while others notice it easily.

Amoled problem?

Hello everyone,
I just bought my oneplus 3 but when I am scrolling with blacks in the screen I see something like blurring or blending the black color with the next one for a second.. I didn't have amoled screen again so I don't know of this is normal.
http://imgur.com/xTfrRrh
Here when I am scrolling with low brightness (5%-10%) especially in the last colors the blur is too strong.
Sooo... Is it defective? Should I return it?
Thank you in advance
Edit: https://youtu.be/8KVOvsE_l2Y
I believe that's normal I've noticed it on my screen too but because this is my first time with an amoled screen I thought it's probably normal... I wouldn't worry about it.
Return it. Not normal IMO as I don't have it.

Even with low. Just tried multiple combinations of screen and ambient brightness and I cannot replicate that glow/blur.
I guess it's not present on all AMOLED panels, similar to backlight bleed on LCDs.

No this is 100% normal and EVERY AMOLED screen has this. For the people saying they can't see it, they are blind. Sorry for being so blunt but it's something that all AMOLED have as the slight purple blur is the turning on of the pixels when they are displaying black. My S3 (had 3 of them), S4, S5, S6, OP3 and any other AMOLED screen had this. My friends OPX Had this, my friends Note 5 had this. Don't worry your phone is fine
I see it as well.
me too ..
and i think its normal
My first OP3 has burn in problems and it also had this common amoled issue, my second OP3 has this "issue", It's normal, I had the same issue on my S4 mini.
THIS IS NOT AN ISSUE, it's perfectly normal all AMOLED have it. Please close this thread as it's useless
I've used various display technologies, all have pros and cons. I suspect that to display something very dark the pixel only lights up briefly. Since it's not much energy used, the various parts of the pixel (RGB subpixels using a certain matrix) light up - but not with the same speed. I'd even more suspect that it's the same with light pixels, but far less noticeable with the human eye.
I would not bother....

Ghosting problem?

I don't know if it's roms (I'm on OOS4.1.1)related but, is anyone experiancing ghosting problems with oneplus 3? Btw it only happens with black colors. They just blur when I scroll.

This is normal for all amoled panels that exist, that ghosting happens when the pixels need to turn on after they were completely off (when the screen displays black). This tends to happen most at low brightness when a pixel is going from the off state to a dark color like grey or dark blue. Happens with my Galaxy S3, S4, S5, S6 and S7 and my OP3. Other phones with amoled panels do the exact same thing and OLED TVs do it too. It's perfectly normal
