I own a redmi note 5 and naturally I go to thread redmi note 5 / 5 plus. But I notice the code name doesn't match.
Now I confused, should I go to redmi note 5 pro??
If I'm not mistaken my note 5 is code name are Why red right?
But why two same thread on xda redmi note 5?
And what the sidéré ce between note 5 and 5 pro?!

China redmi note 5 = global redmi note 5 ≈ Indian redmi note 5 pro( only camera is different)
Global or China redmi 5 plus = Indian redmi note 5
Indian redmi note 5 (single camera ) is Redmi 5 plus in china.

There are 2 version of Redmi Note 5 pro , 1 for china (redmi note 5) and another for global (redmi note 5 pro).. kindly first search on youtube regarding this..then you will know

Apparently you don't know what you are using! Or some third party retailer fooled you...official xiaomi sells pro varient only in India...there is a detail thread in MIUI forum from officials, you can learn more from there.

yeah, just like others said, the naming this time was really confusing.
India : Redmi Note 5 Pro (whyred, SD 636)
CN/Global : Redmi Note 5 (whyred, SD 636)
India : Redmi Note 5 (vince, SD 625)
CN/Global : Redmi 5 Plus (vince, SD 625)
so basically, there just 2 versions of Redmi Note 5, Indian version (RN5Pro) and CN/Global version (RN5)
so yeah, this forum is the correct one for your device
just make sure if u wanted to flash custom roms/mods, use the CN/Global version

Coz they released whyred in India way earlier than China and Global. So xda made a placeholder with name Redmi Note 5 Pro. But seems like many global and china users want a separate section....they submitted a request to xda to separate RN5 Pro from RN5 China/Global. If you want to support that, then do so
For me, I'm fine with the name Redmi Note 5 Pro.

but i believe that the section must renamed to something like Redmi Note 5/5 Pro cause the device is the same (cammera's different) and after the latest roms (i think) they have also all camera's drivers included
the confusing section is the other, the Redmi Note 5/5 Plus , this has to be renamed , to something like Redmi 5 Plus/Note 5 India (sorry but 5 plus is the first released device and also the name is for all countries except india)

The other one is already renamed to Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 / 5 Plus. I don't know if they do this for pro too. But it's up to xda. And I just that said many global users are wishing to separate RN5 Pro altogether and create a new section for RN5 global/china users coz of slight hardware diff. This is kinda absurd imo. But I support changing name to Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 / 5 Pro. It's possible only if more users submits a request to xda staff to change the name

The Indian RN5pro is the same as the global Redmi Note 5, so has a common codename, Whyred, despite the minor differences in camera!

1. India Redmi note 5 (sd 625) is Redmi 5 plus(sd 625) in China.
2. In India Redmi note 5 pro(sd636) is Redmi note 5 (sd 636) in China.

Technically it should work, but in rn5 pro case it wouldn't. This is just a speculation from my side
Xiaomi released RN5 Pro way earlier than RN5 China and RN5 Global. At that time there's no RN5 China or even RN5 Global yet. So it can be assumed that they never tested or optimized this nougat rom for rn5 china.
After 1 month, they released RN5 China with Android 8.1. So, they should've been working on 8.1 but not on 7.1 for rn5 china which explains the camera incompatibility.
Now that RN5 Global is launched with 9.5.5 Oreo which has same harware specs as RN5 China, the upcoming Global Oreo update for RN5 Pro/RN5 Global should bridge the incompatibility between two slightly different specs. There should be no fcs with this update. Till then use china stable rom.

As of this moment, flashing the Global ROM(Pro) on the Chinese Redmi Note 5(AI), works fine, even the camera. But flashing the China ROM on the Pro, breaks the camera app and causes force closes. Its better not to mix and match, according to me at least.

Differences i have seen on the first view:
Xiaomi Mi 6X has USB Typ-C
Redmi Note 5 Pro has bigger battery
Some suggestions about that? Anybody can say something to the rom development? How was this in the past? Which of the two models will get more rom developement? Are there big advantages of Mi6X or Redmi Note 5 Pro?

There is a major difference of soc as well. Mi 6c has sd660 and note 5 pro has 636(which can said equivalent to 660 to some extent).
Regarding development, judging from the past mi5x( aka mi a1 in India) there won't be much developer support. RN5P will definitely have better community support out of these two.

This entire forum is dedicated to both RN5Pro and Global RN5, both labeled as WHYRED. So most of the things should work on both, unless it's noted otherwise. The builds (both rom and kernel) are unified, as it was done with OP 3/3T.

Still you get the impression India is the middle of the world. Shouldn't a device being called by it's international name when it's a international forum? Really ... that's no good explanation since it was clear from the very beginning that PRO will only be the indian version.
Just avoid any confusion, all the version is the same under codename WHYRED. Just rename it to Redmi Note 5 (WHYRED). DONE.

Remember that not everyone know its codename. Your suggestion would also confuse the Indian folks, so there is no "one-size-fits-all". I suggest it's left just the way it is right now.

Though just so you know, the "AI" bit isn't part of the official name. It's just something resellers have added because AI such a buzz word now.
It is Redmi Note 5 with AI Dual Camera, or in the screenshots the 'with' is dropped.
There is no "AI version". There are three different Redmi Note 5 models, the Indian version (sold by the name Redmi Note 5 Pro), the Chinese version (sold by the name Redmi Note 5) which has a different camera setup and there's also a Global version which is the same as the Chinese version but with additional LTE bands.

To set things straight, in India the names of some models are different from the names used globally. In India the snap625, single camera model is named redmi note 5. The snap636, dual camera model is named redmi note 5 pro. Globally the 625, single camera model is named redmi 5 plus and the snap 636, dual camera model is named redmi note 5 (some call it redmi note 5 ai or China). The Indian version of the snap636 model differs from the global version in terms of camera sensors. But every rom, kernel, recovery, mod is made to be used in both because in fact they are the exact same smartphone. People who have the global version often mistakenly choose the 625 model's roms because many forums are related to "redmi note 5" but that's how it is named in India. So what you should look for to be sure is the code name. Snap 636 model is named whyred. The snap625 model is named vince.

Globally the 625, single camera model is named redmi 5 plus and the snap 636, dual camera model is named redmi note 5 (some call it redmi note 5 ai or China). The Indian version of the snap636 model differs from the global version in terms of camera sensors. But every rom, kernel, recovery, mod is made to be used in both because in fact they are the exact same smartphone. People who have the global version often mistakenly choose the 625 model's roms because many forums are related to "redmi note 5" but that's how it is named in India. So what you should look for to be sure is the code name. Snap 636 model is named whyred. The snap625 model is named vince.
