XTRONS PB68WRJP 6.2" Android 8.0 Oreo Split Screen - MTCD Android Head Units General

All, I have a XTRONS PB68WRJP 6.2" Android 8.0 Oreo HU installed on my 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The problem is that it seems Split Screen capability have not been implemented on this unit.... I don't know why since it is native of Android Oreo.
One of the useful functions on long trips is to have GPS and radio/dab/music etc. on the same screen.
There Is any workaround about it ?

did you try to upgrade to most recent rom?

First try to enable the "Developer Options":
1) go to Settings > About phone > Build number
2) Tap Build number seven times. After the first few taps, you should see the steps counting down until you unlock the developer options. Once activated, you will see a message that reads, “You are now a developer!”
3) Go back to Settings, where you’ll find a Developer options entry in the menu.
In this menu you should find an item "Force activities to be resizable". Enabling this you should have the "Split Screen" function.
The problem is that on our Unit the Step 3 above is not working, then you have to install an App from Google Play to access the Developer Menu setting, like the one I posted above

The one I have installed is in Italian and its name is "Impostazioni Sviluppatori" but the store is full of this kind of apps.
Please note that I have still to verify if it is working... I had only few minutes this morning to make a quick check

I tested the app but the menu related to the split screen is not present. I tested also other apps but without success.
I think that the issue is in the build.prop file. It should be a setting there to enable it but the root is needed.

With this app I managed to enable in the developer options the possibility to use the split screen.
The problem is that I don't know how to select the apps to use.
Clicking on the 2 small rectangle in the notification bar I see the list of latest app but long pressing on them the space were to move doesn't appear

Bump... any help on this ? Could someone that own a PX5 Oreo HU with screen size less than 7 inches has this feature enabled ?

Tested Easy Dpi changer and worked. See picture.
Just set the resolution to 1024x600.
I don't have tested too long but the only issue I found is that when the unit goes to sleep I got a message "launcher3 has stopped working". I am using the custom Hal9k rom.

You can see that my screeshot shows a 'Shortcut' in the device lockscreen setting which is missing in your screen shot. Not sure why they should be different.
They're gone; Samsung eliminated them in 4.4. From the Pro's also. The 12" tablets got something called "Lock screen cards" to replace them. I'm using a different ROM than my specified region and still have lock screen widgets even though the control for them is missing in settings. I lost Daynote which should be there in the process. I'm sure when I flash my region's 4.4 ROM when it's finally released I'll lose the widgets and regain Daynote. This has been discussed lots here and in the Pro forums and isn't anything new. If you're rooted do a search. There's a modification you can make to get them back.

Note really, from Note 12 Pro:
I still got Shortcuts and Widgets on lockscreen with 4.4 Hong Kong version. Even with new small update, that comes today and they are still there. I think lock screen card is just for Note Pro series.

They're gone. From the updated 4.4 manual.
Like I said above, I still have them too because I did a dirty flash of another region's ROM. If I did a hard reset they'd be gone because I don't even show them in settings anymore even though they're still displaying. And you just repeated what I already said regarding lock screen cards on the 12" Notes.

Change default display to 480x480 via adb [No Root]

Hi,
The method that works for sony z5 premium to change default screen to 2k applies to the SWR50 smartwatch. see here :http://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-premium/general/changing-resolution-default-to-2k-root-t3282319
Just turn on debugging via adb on watch, if you dont have dev options enabled tap build version 5 times. Then enable debugging via dev options and make sure you have adb tools installed
adb.exe shell
default size is 320x320
 @Tetra wm size 480x480
leave the default wm density at 280
This stays after reboot until you set wm size back to default
you can get more info on screen and the cards look better, I haven't found any problems yet. will report if I do.
good luck
Its working, but for me the notification text size is now much to small, back to 320x320 .

You could go back to 480x480 and increase text size in settings
It works fine too whether the font size is really much smaller. Tried to use larger size font, but still too small. Perhaps need time to adapt to it.
Ha, would love to see a couple screenshots of this before/after comparison. Interesting little tweak.
if I'm not wrong, this only "emulates" a higher resolution scaling screen content, so shouldn't be a problem, but u notice a decrement on battery life?

Thanks!

Maybe 400x400 might work better. Huawei watch uses that. Or maybe changing the dpi at 480x480 might work. Does it look much sharper at 480?

Guys... you do realize that changing the virtual resolution does not make the screen sharper?
Just leave it at 320x320 (which is the physical res), there is no benefit of a higher resolution.

Is it possible to remap the alarm slider to open app?

Hi guys,
I am not a developper, but I just saw a review of the new blackberry phone and it had a button you could map to open any app on the phone.
I wandered if it was possible to do it with the oneplus 3 alarm slider.
I saw that there was a couple of xposed module that gave you more options like put the phone on airplane mode, ... but xposed is not avaliable on nougat yet and I was thinking of a more customizable option
Does anyone know if it is possible, if it already exists (might have missed it) or if i have to start learning to code

It's possible and the app that does this already exists: "Notification slider" on Play Store.
You'll need root and kernel set to permissive. Everything you need to know is provided when you launch the app.

plus it says thet to unlock all the feature i need xposed

The app does allow you to launch any app of your choice (and multiple other options) with the slider.
Xposed is only for Marshmallow, on Nougat it works without Xposed, but needs permissive kernel as a workaround.

Weird ... The app should inform you about kernel having to be permissive at launch. And it provides a few links to guides on how to do it. Anyways, you can just Google it or get another app that sets the kernel to permissive.
... A minute later ...
I've just realized that I'm an idiot ... It seems that it doesn't works very well on OOS Nougat. I'm running LineageOS currently (works perfectly here), completely forgot about that, sorry.

Guide about Honor magic

First of all I don't own a magic device however I use the magic firmware on my Honor 8 so I can't cover up all info about magic usage but most of them.
So Q/A
I can't install third party launchers, why?
Because huawei blocked this on this firmware. To install third party launchers you'll need root.
So I got a launcher installed. But I can't see any widgets?
Open /system/etc/permissions/handheld_core_hardware.xml and find there will be a # before it which disables the feature. Just remove it and reboot.
Why doesn't notifications work?
By default third party apps gets disabled notifications (idk why) go to notifications and enable them for your new installed apps.
I can't see nfc option?
This is due to being disabled in earlier builds. However B536.1 evaluation versions brings nfc settings.
Some options are still in Chinese why?
They have informed you that the English language is still in beta (unfinished) this we might be able to fix with overlays.
More will come.

What I can tell for now no I haven't seen any indication of it update wise . And since it's a test device rather then a official retail device it is likely they only are going to fix bugs etc. However I can't tell to a 100% but as its a half year since the device is released I doubt nougat is coming in near feature (if at all) there's no info as far as I can see (though I can't read or search in Chinese)

Hi There,
Magic phone is indeed magic like, feels really great and looks beautiful, very smooth feel in hand.
Needed few tips and tricks to make more use of it.
Are these possible without root, if rooted office email app will be blocked
1) How to install launcher as system app, Please pls guide. I'm dying to install Neon, Zero.
2) How to install Ultra battery mode? - it is present in Honor 6 and it's awesome!
3) Is it possible to reduce resolution - Screen power saving - like Honor 6, saves battery during night and driving
4) Possible to change keyboard during typing? Popups doesn't show in notification shade, it's painful to go to settings n change every time
TIA.
Tnx,

1. Without root is not possible to install any 3rd party launcher except google launcher.
2. Do you mean the ultrabattery launcher which comes with huawei? If so it could be possible.
3. Resolution i doubt without root, and no idea about that feature.
4. We'll if you don't use navigation bar no, if you do it might work. Can't tell since I don't use that firmware atm but I never saw any fast switch for keyboard

I've been trying to find it in the props and xmls, but I didn't find "carrier" or "operator" with a grep. It might be called something else.

Hi!, how to change exactly the line: “/system/etc/permissions/handheld_core_hardware.xml”?

Oreo 8.0 and a persistent notification

I have an app, "Secure Apps Manager" that shows a persistent notification I've been unable to hide. It shows in the notification bar that it's "Running in the Background." I disabled it in the Notification settings, but it continues to display on the notification bar and the lock screen.
I was able hide it in Nougat, but it looks like the rules changed in Oreo. Anyone with ideas/ input how I can hide it?
So there is this line in notification policy in /data/system
<channel id="FOREGROUND_SERVICE" name="Apps, die im Hintergrund ausgeführt werden" importance="1" sound="content://settings/system/notification_sound" usage="5" content_type="4" flags="0" locked="4" show_badge="true" />
If you change show_badge to false, it works. However, it enables itself again (who knoes why)

Put the notification in the lowest importance, so it doesnt bother as much.

Forgive me, but how do I do that in Oreo?
Apparently, this is by design.
It is not going to be removed.

No options blooming under all categories. Only thing showing blue is "Allow Notification Dot"
Nothing like this?

You can't get rid of the notification in your notification shade but you can remove the icon from your status bar. If you long press on the "apps running in the background" notification and select "All categories" you're presented with a list of apps and toggles. Some of the toggles you may be able to actually toggle and some you will not.
If you scroll down through the list with toggles that are grayed out preventing you from toggling them off, look for the item "Apps running in background" and select it (not the toggle, click on the actual text)
From here you want to click on "importance" at the top and change it to "low" ... Again this will not remove the notification but you will at least lose the little graph icon in the corner of the status bar.
Hope that helps and is less confusing ... And hopefully that's what you were wanting and this isn't a completely pointless post.

Yep, I figured it out. I wish it was gone for good, but this is far less annoying. Thanks all!
Aren't there always going to be apps running in the background on Android? I don't have O yet but this almost doesn't sound like an intended feature.
There was a link to a google Android help forum somewhere. The engineers claimed it was by design, however I cry BS. Nougat let you hide it. Not sure why we can't hide it now.
I can disable it for up to 2 hours, so why can't I disable it for good?
Yes, this is by design.
Utterly stupid, as many will have apps running in the background.
Not sure what Google was thinking when they signed off on this one.
It is not going to be removed.

Basically the answer was
Status: Won't Fix (Intended Behavior)
Engineering team responded with below comment:
"We will not let users block the 'running in the background' notification
though we have worked on changing the rules about when it will appear."
In previews this worked. Can someone try and confirm for official 8.0?

Can someone tell me how to disable the suggestions bar in the settings menu, thank you!
This should work now (but it requires Tasker):
