Daydream Compatibility - LG G7 ThinQ Questions & Answers

Ok so I got this phone expecting to be able to install and run daydream apps and games. Looking on the play store aside from the official daydream app none of the other apps appear to be compatible. I could understand if some developers put device/screen restrictions on their apps but I don't see every app being that way. Is there something I'm missing or some change I need to make for the daydream compatibility?
** side note I just double checked and the official daydream app by google says incompatible device as well.

Ok so looking a little closer at the matter it appears as if Google is "automatically" giving daydream certification to most phones without LCD screens. As far as I can tell, however, the IPS screen in the G7 meets all of google's requirements. I wonder if they haven't gotten around to certifying the G7 or if they are hands down declining cert for any phone with an LCD screen. On that note does anyone know of a way without root to get daydream working on "incompatible" phones without root. I have to admit I enjoy root, but with all the manufacturers working to lock down their devices I'm trying to move away from root for the features I'm looking for. Unfortunately that means upgrading my phone more often, but alas that is the goal of the manufacturers.

I've been looking as well. Powerful phone but no good vr app?
I'm stumped on what to do. I tried to return my lg g7 thinq for the Galaxy because I am finding the Galaxy is being excepted with compatible software and yhe lg is getting passed by.

Kindle Fire root - screen size question

I recently found out that the NFL Game Rewind app (yet to be released) will only support "Android devices with at least a 10 inch screen and 2.3 or later". I subscribe to the service, and would really like to be able to run that app when it's released. Would a rooted device be able to load/run an application that has a physical screen size requirement?
If not, I'd love to hear a brief explanation why, as I'm trying to slowly learn more about these devices and how they work. Thanks everyone!

A lot of android apps only support a certain resolution (LCD density). The Kindle Fire's 7" screen has an LCD density of 160, which is set in the build.prop. Phones will have a much higher number. There are a few apps that will let you change the LCD density pretty easily with little risk of screwing up your build.prop and "bricking" your device. For a 10" tablet, I would try somewhere between 120-130, or you could use Google to find out the exact number. The only problem with that is some apps may not work afterwards because they are dependent on the 160 setting. Luckily, it can always be changed back, but it requires a reboot. But it all depends on how badly you want to play that game.

[Q] Does Family Guy: Quest for Stuff Work?

I just installed the game and it gets stuck at the loading screen. It eventually gives me some null frame error that I've never seen before
Is it an issue with this model tablet or maybe my tablet is just messed up some how? I did go through and turn off/disable some things, but none should have affected this game

Hrmm, thanks for the information. I just did a factory reset and am still getting stuck around the 85% part of the loading bar
That's weird... did you install it from the Galaxy Apps ? That's what I did because it says you get $15 in app purchases.

ahha, that fixed it. I had originally downloaded it from the Google Play Store
I'm at the intro cartoon scene now. Let's hope it continues to work. Thanks again
Hrmm, so now that I have attached my Google Play account to the game, when it loads up it tells me that I need to upgrade to the latest version. When I press the upgrade button it takes me to the Galaxy Apps page via Chrome
This is disappointing
Yeah I never tried doing that, that's no good
Edit: Just went into the settings and signed in using Google+ and it signed me into Google Games and worked like it should....can't find the $15 though
Mine did the same thing, but I'll give it a shot from Samsung Apps

That definitely worked for me. When I started to research the original error message, I saw a forum for Blackberry users talking about getting this erorr because they didn't have Google Play Services on their device. Sideloading a Google play services app helped them.
I can only imagine that is what's going on with the Tab S. Something stupid that Samsung has done with TouchWiz. Purely speculation though
Same here with install from Play store: Stuck at loading between 80 and 95% on my Tab S 8.4.
I'm not willing to go through Samsung store, so my testing stops here.
I'm actually growing upset at Samsung with this device. Their bloatware is even more intrusive than Google's and more often impossible to remove/disable. They automatically start and run in the background leeching personal data, memory and battery life without doing much to improve user experience in return.
And no matter if it's a Firmware, TW or Exynos issue, something seems to be messing up with how apps and transition effects perform... and all of the suspects are branded Samsung. I see way too many issues here for a supposedly top notch device positioned in such a high pricing. I see all the elements for a winning product ruined by greed: Poor optimization, integration of a company shipset to save some cash, poor Quality Control (considering the amount of defect units reported), integration of a large amount of bloatware to generate side income at the detriment of user experience.
I hope all of this gets fixed with custom firmwares or future official firmwares, but I'm still upset that Samsung goes for cheap tactics on a wannabe high end product.

I have to agree.
In the back of my head I'm kind of hoping that it's a faulty device and the rest run better. There's some progress going on a CyanogenMod port. I am hoping this works out nicely so I can enjoy the Tab S as much as I enjoy my two year old nexus 7. And I'm not even a fan of CyanogenMod, lol. But it's the lesser of two evils right now. It could end up being my savior lol. I thought this Exynos chip was comparable to the Snapdragon 800. I knew the Snapdragon performed better GPU wise, but not by this much.

The Amazon Appstore version is giving me some strange graphical glitches, and it also still at 1.1.2 when the version on the Google Play Store has been updated to 1.1.3.
The gaphical glitches are that sometimes when I start the gamne, almost everthing is black. If I force close it and reopen it, it looks normal. Also, a few of the items from the Comicon event are showing in a different location than where I place them. The actual image if the item is above nd to the left of where I actually place it. To click the item, I have to click where I placed the outline, not on the actual image, so it appears to be a display issue.
Does anyone know if a custom ROM will run the Play Store version correctly?
The version on the Galaxy store works now.

Same thing happens sometimes with the version provided on the Samsung App Store. It's outdated (one version behind the Google Play store version), but at least, it runs...
I tried the version on the Amazon App Store, but was not able to login with Google+.
If anyone is interested there was an update for this on the play store which i think has fixed the problem

[Q] Un-Root My aftv?

I bought two rootable FireTVs the day after xmas at Staples, and promptly rooted one. The other is safely tucked away in my *doomsday bunker* still sealed, waiting for armageddon.
During the rooting process I determined that I lack the attention span / ambition to install the necessary boot menu / rom manager and manually update the firmware in order to have an up-to-date stb. So, my question is twofold:
1) If I re-enable updates and remove the dns blocking, will my aftv gracefully update itself? I've already uninstalled SuperSU as I don't believe I need it.
2) Assuming the box is running the latest official rom, will the following (sideloaded) apps still work?
MXPlayer
FiredTv
DirecTV App
Android Terminal Emulator
I have also built my own simple smb folder navigation app, so obviously the ability to run apps from unknown sources is needed also. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that's available on all FireOS versions.
I guess I have low standards, but this is really all I need for the box to be useful to me. I absolutely love the thing, save for the fact that the DirecTV App doesn't like the android version presumably because I never applied any updates.

Be careful with the doomsday bunker firetv. If that is Series 2 in serial, you may not be able to root it. If its series 3. Ex (70900305 or 303) then you can do the Ethernet trick and root it. I'd say remove that out, root it as soon as possible and put it back in the safe. I've done just that.
Now to answer your question. I doubt you need root for what you are doing but someone else may clarify. I highly recommend keep and follow up with root. Android Rom is around the corner and features like quick support for remote desktop etc have immense benefits.

Not sure how much more careful I can be with it than setting on a shelf above my bourbon collection.
But seriously, its serial starts w/ 70900201XXXXX, are you saying its too old of firmware? If so, it sounds to me like I should let it update and put the rooted one on the shelf.

I'm not sure we're on the same page w/ this. I'm very much wanting to "set it and forget it". Periodically flashing roms seems to me like the polar opposite. Reminds me of the good old days of the h-card. Life is too short to run in that exercise wheel again.

Agreed with your point of view, but for my needs, I primarily need root as I use Kodi all the time. I also use quick support for remote support for my family and friends so that wouldn't work without root. Once you've got it setup with root, it stays there unless you mess it up or forgot the block or disable step. I've made a total of 22 firetv's and not one has gotten updated after I've disabled the com update.
As for the Series 2, If you try to update, it will take you to the latest version of the firmware. In old days, it would increment one. Secondly, you cannot do the removal of the Ethernet trick to make it think there is no update. If you block the updates, it will give you an error but will enforce the update. Last week, I had to make 3 firetv's for family. I had a combination of series 2 and 3. I couldn't do any of the 2's. All 3's so far were good.
The good news is that bestbuy versions are mostly series 3. The downside to series 3 is that you have to downgrade first and then go up.
Sounds like I was on base w/ the notion of letting my untouched box update and benching the rooted one until I know how my needs are served w/o superuser.
I've toyed with xbmc since well, the days when my I had to fight my kids to use their original xboxes. While I can't scoff at the quality and sheer amount of work that's been put into it, for my tastes it's always come across as an application consisting of a ton of fluff, a pound of functionality, and a half ounce of useability. I just want to watch movies. It shouldnt take 7 button presses to get to them. :-/

Has anyone attempted to side load Google Daydream VR on HTC 10?

I have seen Daydream ported to other phones on reddit. I haven't seen a thread for anyone attempting to do this on their HTC 10. I'd like to try Daydream and realize it doesn't have an AMOLED and won't function as ideal as possible but am still curious. Anyone have tips or can give direction to go to try it out?
I've tried it and haven't had luck. I downloaded it from apkmirror and got it, and the VR components installed successfully. The app opens and you can browse around but the moment you click the button to go into VR mode it crashes. I am going to dig around and see if I can figure anything out. What other phones have you seen it ported to? Maybe whatever they did will work on the 10.
I saw a thread for galaxy s7 and nexus 6p. If you can make it work that would be awesome. I suspect it's similar to fulldive in the app store. It notifies it may not work without Google gr8 services installed. However, most everything works fine. I just have issue with playing my own videos.
Here's something to look into. Unfortunately I'm not rooted yet so I can't try.

Color Os Sucks

First I thought why people hate on this os, I can deal with it, I love stock android but I have also used miui in the past so color os should be fine, but thinking that was a big mistake.
It doesn't support basic android 9 pie features like swipping right to clear banner notifications, a screen on time chart (leave alone digital wellbeing), dark mode of atleast some sort (all flashy white colours, cannot even take the amoled's advantage) and many more. Even a redmi phone with android 6 or 7 with miui 10 has all android 9 features and here's color os lacking even at the basics.
And even its own features are incompliant. You can only create dual apps for select 2-3 apps, unlike in miui where you could clone any app. Also what is this thing with the call menu when you receive a call, its of 2 kinds, one in which you have to swipe up/down to take/end a call and other being you just have to click the call pick/end button. They need to show their customisation skills there, wow.
And though the phone supports L1 liscence and has a hdr capable display it still doesn't support hdr content on netflix or amazon prime. Their answer to that is an osie vision effect feature in settings>display>osie vision effect, which btw to use you have to also enable smart slidebar(in convinience aid) and then go the supported app>pull out smart slidebar and then enable osie effect. All this then only to see that it says 'not supported in current app'.
Now the main reason for my frustration being not able to download files when the phone is locked. I put anything on download, may it be a video in youtube app or a file in chrome or any download manager app, it downloads only till 1-2 mins after the phone is locked. I come after an hour or so and the download is stuck there. How can one not be frustrated then.
So conclusion is to hell with color os, just waiting for a stable custom rom(pixel experience rom for that matter).

I guess so too. Because they don't have much time to deeply modify the OS.
I'm facing a weird issue on my Realme X. After updating an app on Play Store, I don't see "app updated" confirmation on notification panel. I need to open Play store to check if the app is updated or not. My play store version is 17.8.14. All other notification working like when an update is available, when I install a new app etc. Only I don't get notification confirmation after updating an existing app.

Clear data of play store & play services, reboot and let those update itself, then update your apps. Also check for if any specific notification is disabled for play store.

This doesn't help. I know all these workarounds and tried already. I have created a post on Google Community and it seems like most people are facing this bug starting from 17.8.14 update. And after 17.9.17 update, it's even worse. There is no notification from Play Store whatsoever (no notification when an update is available, when an update is completed, when a new app is installed successfully). Google has screwed the notification function on Play Store.
