Hi all, a bit confused.
I am in italy and have RN5 Eu version.
Do i have to refer to the "whyred" version for modding? For custom roms? So is this "Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 / 5 Plus" the right section for me?

First of all there is no EU version. There is Redmi note 5 Pro(Indian version), Redmi note 5 AI(Chinese version), and just Redmi note 5 global version(same as AI chinese but with global rom + band20 support). All of these are codenamed whyred, while note 5/plus is different device with snapdragon 625 and single camera on back.

Yes, whyred is the code name for the device family of Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Global (EU) and Pro (India). Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Plus is within the Vince code name family. Next time I suggest you to do a quick search trough the forums before posting such question with very easy to find answer.

i had the same question in the past.
vince is for redmi 5 plus or note.
whyred is for yours.
i think in asia the redmi 5 plus is called note too.
it's confusing i know.
our phone in europe is RN5 redmi note 5 aka codename whyred.
There are 3 variants.
Redmi 5 note global
Redmi 5 China
Redmi 5 pro for India

The indian version is not available in my country yet, so I might be getting the china version. But I'm wondering the compatiblity of the custom rom

Everything should work, as Indian version can use oreo china twrp now.
Maybe camera only will have a problems, but i'm sure this can be fixed soon

Do not update your miui 9 after 9.5.17 if you wish to be on the safer side.
As long as you stay below miui 9 9.5.17 (& 8.7.5 in case of miui 10) you're safe and can change roms without any problem.

No, your device is whyred. You have a Snapdragon 636; Vince has Snapdragon 625. You have dual cameras, Vince is single camera.
If you install a ROM meant for a different device, you will have a nice new brick. Please, use only whyred ROMs on your device.

before starting with modding, I would like to understand if at least I'm in the right section, this is the redmi notes 5 Pro section, (Indian version, if I have not misunderstood). I own a Redmi note 5 (global version, model name M1803E7SG). Can i use the guides of this section to proceed with the unlocking of the bootloader and to get the permissions of root??

Yes, you own a Redmi Note 5, also knows as whyred.
This tactic from Xiaomi confused alot of people.
Vince is the one with a single rear camera, while whyred is the one with the dual camera setup.
In India:
Redmi Note 5 is VINCE.
Redmi Note 5 Pro is WHYRED.
In Europe:
Redmi 5 Plus is VINCE.
Redmi Note 5 is WHYRED.
Also, AFAIK, unlocking the bootloader is the same deal with any Xiaomi phone. Using the unlock tool and the waiting time, etc, no matter the device you have.

all is the same except cameras. sensors. but we used same roms. only in gcam theres a patch specially for our RN5ai. rest is same.

I'm new to the Xiaomi community and I recently ordered the
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Dual camera 4GB/64GB version.
I understand that there's the Xiaomi redmi note 5 3/4GB 64/128GB single camera version;
Xiaomi redmi note 5 Pro 4/6GB 64/128GB version;
Xiaomi redmi note 5 Dual AI 4/6GB 64/128GB version.
The thing that really confuses me, is the Dual camera version the same as the Pro?
I couldn't find the Pro version on most stores and the specs seem to be quite similar.
Will I be able to install the same ROM's on the Dual version that are meant for the Pro?
Are they really the same?
This is really getting me frustrated and I can't find any info online about this.

But in your case and only if your phone has two backside cameras:
- Xiaomi redmi note 5 Pro 4/6GB 64/128GB -> REDMI NOTE 5 PRO INDIA
- If your phone says that it uses a Global MIUI ROM then: Xiaomi redmi note 5 Dual AI 4/6GB 64/128GB -> Redmi Note 5 Global
- If your phone says that it uses a Russian MIUI ROM then: Xiaomi redmi note 5 Dual AI 4/6GB 64/128GB -> Redmi Note 5 Russia
Now, I am a little bit confused where exactly someone will find ROMs for Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 3/4GB 64/128GB with a single camera. It's believed that this variant is actually the Redmi 5 Plus but... I am not sure.

I checked the custom ROMs online regarding the single camera version, they were called just "Note 5 single camera" and there were a lot designed specifically for that version. I believe my specific version of Xiaomi is the China version, since it is the chinese version with the Global ROM installed, if that's the case, there are plenty of ROMs for me to choose.

I have just placed the order on the phone. I haven't recieved it yet. The description of the phone says that it is the Chinese version with the Global ROM.
