Call Recorder - LG G7 ThinQ Questions & Answers

It seems that there is a default call recorder on this device (TMO variant). How do I disable, uninstall this?
Can not find any settings for this or where it lives.
Found a file folder called ideacallrecorder. This is where all the files are from recorded calls, but I never installed this app, nor can I find it.

Let me preface this by stating I did not install any call recorder on this device as I have no need for this. On initial set up I made a call and it prompted me to enable call record. After I take/make a call I get a screen that asks if I want to save the recording or add a note. It is somehow linked to some playstore app, but I don't know how to find it.

Go to the play store and view the installed apps?
Care to post a screen shot?

Install it in the play store, clear its cache and data, then uninstall in the app menu?
You could also install LG package disabler and see what it finds?

I can only access it after a call, it just opens up

I'll try the play store option.
I have the package disabler and can't seem to find anything. I also do not know what it would be named. Don't see anything I don't recognize
Attempted installing the prompted app from the play store, cleared cache and data then uninstalled and still no go. May be trying a factory reset, as this is very annoying.

Well, I found the culprit! It was the dam SMS backup app I used. It was the first thing I installed during the set up of the device. Sorry for the confusion, and thank you for everyone's help

For posterity, because finding the source of this "ideaCallRecorder" just drove me NUTS for over an hour:
This apparently came from an app called "Super Backup" ("com.idea.backup.smscontacts...), which has an option to install a "call recorder" function. Once it's installed -- which I did ACCIDENTALLY while rebuilding my lady's phone -- you can't find the function anywhere in the system. The only clue is that folder in the default above-root directory /storage/emulated/0 .
The niggle was that EVERY CALL was being recorded on my lady's phone, and I could not find any way at all to turn call recording off. Until I stumbled on this thread.
The vendor shows up on apkmirror.com as "MobileIdea Studio". I advise to AVOID this dev's "Super Backup" app at all costs! Because it was way too easy for me (and apparently the OP here) to accidentally tap the wrong button on the main screen.
I realize this is 4 years later, but since this problem was such a bear to find for me (and a top-level XDA search didn't give me a lot of help), I figured I would add to the knowledge base, in the hope of making it easier for somebody else to solve this problem if it ever pops up.

I had installed the Google Car Home in the Thunderbolt previously using Root Explorer. Wonder why it says that though on a Google phone?
But thanks. I'm assuming I would use the same install method on this as I did the T-Bolt...
I prefer CarHome Ultra, https://market.android.com/details?...51bGwsMSwxLDEsInNwaW5uaW5naGVhZC5jYXJob21lIl0.
It's not free, but it's way better, imo.
Try this, flash the car home apk then the launcher apk, let me know.
Just found that CarHome Ultra right before you posted it. It's a trial? Didn't see where it asks you to pay for it. Looks nice though.
Thanks for the heads up.

There is a license, that you can purchase for $1.99.

This is a very nice app. I don't understand why Google doesn't update their own apps with there OS.
If anyone wants Google Car Home with a stock phone, unlocked, unrooted, unanything I've gotten it working through this method:
Google Car Home on the Galaxy Nexus.
How I did it:
Follow the instructions here:
http://www.droid-life.com/2012/02/0...m-the-market-on-the-verizon-lte-galaxy-nexus/
Just type 'Google Car Home' whenever it refers to Google Wallet.
The app will install, but then give you a message that it's not compatible. You will not see it in your apps - however if you go to settings-->apps it's in the list - there is just no icon available.
So there is a final step, install this app:
https://market.android.com/details?...1bGwsMSwxLDEsIm5ldC5jd2ZrLmlnODguY2FybW9kZSJd
All this app does is give you a toggle to launch the default car home app. If you have more than one installed, it will as which you want to use.
I've used Google Car Home on my Verizon Nexus today and it works great. I've also changed the colors now so they match 'ICS blue'.
Will see if I can attach the image:
Waou it works perfectly...
Thank you so much... i've been looking for a way to install car home on my GNexus non rooted for age, and finally i have it, thanks to you.
I was stuck at first, cause i wasn't going on the car home page but stayed on the search results page (where you can actually clic install directly) and the market did the same and it didn't work... but then i did it properly and it's perfect.
I've downloaded apk from xda also, and it allowed me to have the exact same icon than the original (and not the car mode icon).
Anyway, works flawlessly.
Where did you find the APK? I've tried this method but I couldn't get it to work...
Just to say thanks to Mcdeadagain - finding a launcher was my issue.
apk can be found in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1569027

Google Play Store (Android Market) v3.5.15
Requirements: Android v2.2+
Overview: Play Anywhere, All your entertainment in one place, Google Play is your one-stop shop for all your favorite entertainment.
ChangeLog:
- You now have the Installed and All tabs you can swipe between. The former one is what we used to have before - it lists all apps installed on your device. The latter lists all apps you've ever installed in case you want to download them again or travel down the memory lane. This is quite handy, and I've seen this list before in the Play Store on the web, so it's great to get it here in the mobile app.
- The All tab contains a handy dropdown with all your accounts (if you added more than one) and lets you switch between them very easily (as opposed to clicking Menu, etc).
- The list of apps you have purchased but uninstalled or haven't installed yet has moved to the All tab... which means it's now mixed in with the free apps you no longer have on the device. I'm not sure how I feel about that - on one hand, I like that it's gone from the first list, but ideally there should be a way to filter paid apps from free in the All list. Maybe someday...
- A few of the stock apps that apparently never got linked to the Play Store before got identified and picked up this time, and updates to such orphans were waiting for me when I fired the Store up. I've complained about this very bug in my last rant, and it looks like someone listened.
- Just like in the web Play Store:
# reviews now show the device used by the reviewer
# reviews can now be sorted by Most Helpful first or Newest first
# you can now filter reviews to show ones for the latest version of the app as well as made by only the device you are using
Installation Guide:
1.Download the apk from the links
2.put the apk on the phone ,don't use adb install *.apk in won't work it will say it already exists
3.Open the apk from the phone using a File explorer (ASTRO for example)
4.it will ask you if you want to replace the current market, press yes.
5.wait for install and voila you have the new market
NOTE:this method replaces the old market.

Troubleshoot:
If you have download problem after Installing new market do this
" Connect your phone to your computer,
set in usb mass storage mode. Look for
a hidden folder called ".android_ secure"
and then delete the file
"smdl2tmp1 .asec". Unmount and you
should be good to go."

Thanks. If you swipe left on 'my apps' it'll take you to another page which shows you all the apps you installed, not just paid. I don't think this was in my previous version. Nice update

I remember seeing my application history on my google dashboard, (sign into your Google account via the web to access your dashboard), maybe you can delete it that way. Not sure if you can remove via the play store...

Customize Status Bar?

Can anyone tell me how do I customize the status bar icons on my G3? I really need to add a button to enable or disable GPS.
Thanks!
On the toggles drag them all the way left, at the very end there's an edit toggle that will take you to the customization screen thing.

If you want further customization, theres an Xposed module called G3 Tweaksbox which is pretty damn comprehensive. You should check it out. If you dont know what xposed is and how it works id be happy to share!

It is bizarre. I can access Google Play, find an app, and attempt to download, except that the app never downloads. I get an error 495. I've googled that error and I've cleaned data and cache from Google Play and Google Framework. I've also removed my Google email address from Accounts, cleared it all again, then added my email again. No joy. Seems there are a small number of people with that problem. It's very frustrating with my brand new phone.

Try downloading an app from your browser and not the Play Store app. This has got mine working in the past when nothing else worked.

Sounds like switching Roms might solve that problem. Are you on the stock Rom? Here's the one I'm using, there are only two for now and they are both leaps and bounds better than stock. Additionally, it may be a problem with an older iteration that rom if you are using a custom one

Yep, I just did. I live in India and I own a Pixel 4 XL.
Here are the steps that worked perfectly for me:
1. Uninstalled Phone app's updates.
2. Cleared cache/storage of Play Store app.
3. Force stopped Google Play Store.
4. Turned on VPN and set the location to the USA (I use TunnelBear VPN service).
5. Opened Google Play Store and updated Phone app.
6. Opened Phone app and went to settings. I had "Spam and Call Screen" feature available there.
I just tried it out and I can confirm that the above steps work.
I can confirm the above does not work in the UK.

Hey, it was working fine with my case but later when I had to restart my device, it stopped working. I don't really know what went south but then I replicated these steps for myself and it still didn't appear. Tried that for like, 3-4 times. Have stopped giving it a try since then. It's really weird to see it working and then all of a sudden, it just went away.
It's all cloud controlled, I guess we.need to understand how google triggers the option their be backend.

Question Phone reset...should I?

Helloe
Since I bought the phone, the reminder subfunction of the Google calendar app doesn't work. I get reminded of events but not of reminders that I add. Other users jave reported it as well, but we haven't found a solution.
OnePlus support recommended this
"Please try reset options this will not erase data. If you only want to clear app data and restore your device to factory settings without losing the data stored in the internal storage, choose the Reset all settings option in the Reset phone menu instead of the Erase all data option."
With a perfectly working daily driver phone that's rooted and otherwise working fine, should I follow their suggestion?
Does root get wiped? Will I have to reinstall my apps?
Thanks
Try clearing just that apps data. Maybe use another calendar app if that doesn't work.
Google apps are a pain. Constant firmware and software upgrades/updates just mean more of your time spent trying to learn and troubleshoot them. Gookill is a mess.

If you can uninstall then reinstall it try that. Check it's permissions and if it's able to run in the background. A Google search may give you more solutions; doesn't have to be that model or even brand as the same issues tend to happen on many different Androids.
If that's the only problem I would find another app to replace it. Not worth screwing up a good load over one insignificant app.
I use as little Google apps as possible. I use the native Samsung calendar instead. I use Gmail and Gmaps but Gmaps is a mess.

You have a valid point about not reseting over 1 app. Thanks

Indian warrior actually.
"It has pleased the Great Spirit that I am here today— I have eaten with my white friends. The earth is our mother— we are now on it, with the Great spirit above us; it is good. I hope we are all friends here. A few winters ago I was fighting against you. I did wrong, perhaps, but that is past—it is buried—let it be forgotten.
Rock River was a beautiful country. I liked my towns, my cornfields and the home of my people. I fought for it. It is now yours. Keep it as we did— it will produce you good crops.
I thank the Great Spirit that I am now friendly with my white brethren. We are here together, we have eaten together; we are friends; it is his wish and mine. I thank you for your friendship.
I was once a great warrior; I am now poor. Keokuk has been the cause of my present situation; but I do not attach blame to him. I am now old. I have looked upon the Mississippi since I have been a child. I love the great river. I have dwelt upon its banks from the time I was an infant. I look upon it now. I shake hands with you, and as it is my wish, I hope you are my friends.

This is what I get when I try to uninstall it using titanium backup.
That's interesting as it's not even present on my Samsung. With root permissions I would think you could uninstall it. However it may have dependencies.
Again I would bypass it by using another calendar app to replace it.
