How's the external speaker? - LG G7 ThinQ Questions & Answers

I read LG did something with the phone for the speaker to have a better resonance chamber and it actually makes the external speaker louder, you can actually feel bass and putting it on a table or something would make it louder. I haven't got the chance to test one in a store so I thought I'd ask on here if it was just a gimmick or if it actually works

Yes from my experience it's loud af. And yes you can actually feel the bass when you're playing a song. Putting it on a table makes it even louder.

Thanks for the answer. I'm probably going to pick it up when the T-Mobile variant gets root it's honestly all I'm waiting for before I grab it

it's seriously good sound if you put it on an inverted 5 gal bucket, plastic crate or box. you can actually hear bass and mids. blew me away.

For a single bottom facing speaker this thing is Loud and Clear. I don't get distortion like on other devices I have had. Put it on the table and it resonates nicely. Almost don't have to use my Bluetooth speaker.

I have a roll of paper towels by the sink, and I lay the phone over the hole of the tube while I listen to music doing the dishes, and that sounds pretty nice. The speaker is actually annoyingly loud with some music, so I listen to music without using max speaker now.

Speaker Hack?

Ok, so I've searched the forum about the speaker quality on the TP2. After playing around with my TP2, I can say that I am impressed with the volume/quality when comparing it to my Kaiser. BUT, the design is a bit flawed when using the phone tilted for watching videos, as mentioned in this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=520823
This makes me wonder if there could be a potential hack for the in-call ear speaker, because it's actually very good in quality - much better than the Kaiser. I'm wondering if it can be hacked to be used at a boosted volume when playing back media, thus utilising all 3 speakers on the phone and giving an all-angle audio extravaganza! My old C550 shared the ear speaker as the external speaker, so I'm wondering if something can be done with the TP2 ear speaker to a similar effect.
Any opinions?
What about SRS WOW?
Have you tested¿

I was pretty pissed that my Acer Aspire One's speaker was on the bottom. It's completely useless. In that instance though, there was plenty of room for speakers in the screen bezel where they would have been usable. For the TP2, there aren't a lot of good places to put it. And since they wanted speakerphone access by flipping the phone over, that placement made sense for enterprise purposes.
I do hope your idea improves its media player creds, but I wonder if amped up audio from the front speaker won't end up sounding as flat as muffled sound from the larger speaker(s?) beneath.

External Speaker quality?

For those that already have a note 2 could you please tell me what the external speaker is like?
Right now I have a galaxy nexus which for the most part I adore, but the external speaker absolutely blows. I work in construction so I often miss calls. I also use it to play music while I'm working and unless I'm in a fairly quiet area I can't hear it very well. Hands down the worst external speaker of the many smart phones I've owned.
I'm really hoping the Note 2 is improved on that.
Thanks..
The external speaker is pretty loud. Definitely a lot better than the Gnexus. On the Gnexus I had to install Volume+ or flash a rom with Beats Louder.
The problem is defining how loud is loud. Since you're in construction you might have different standards than others.
Although, I do feel that the internal speaker could use a bumping up but it's not too bad.

According to reviews it's finally solid but I look forward to experiencing the Note2 in person. I agree the Nexus speaker sucks & even was a dealbreaker for me, my EVO loudspeaker is solid & contributed to my 2010 decision. I hope future flagships pay more attention to the speaker quality & even include stereo speakers.
BTW, you could also consider external bluetooth speakers..
Well put it this way. You can hold a conversation with the loud speaker, while driving on the motorway/freeway. Impossible to do with htc sensation. Very clear and loud.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Sounds like this will be good for my needs.
As for the external bluetooth speakers. I've considered it but unfortunately not practical as I'm always on the move. So it has to be on the external speaker while in my pocket.
note 2 external speaker quality loud but poor
I like that its loud. But the quality and clarity leaves much to be desired. Also having an iPhone 5, the clarity to loudness ratio is like night and day. I'm sad because I much prefer the Note 2. If anyone has any tips or mods to greatly improve this please post. TIA

Have you considered something like the Motorola S10-HD? It's sweat resistant and sounds amazing! Being that it uses earbuds, it would reduce any surrounding noises as well. It goes around your neck and over your ears, so the earbuds stay in place very very well. Also, if you want to pull the earbuds out for any reason, it just rests around your neck, is there when you're ready to listen again, and will not fall off. Most earbuds are dangling from your waist where they're attached to your phone, that's a great advantage with the S10-HD as they are always around your neck no matter what you're doing. I have this and was extremely impressed! I bought it just for music, games, videos, etc ; so I was shocked to find out it works perfect for phone calls, I didn't even know it was capable!!! Callers on the other end don't even know I'm on a bluetooth headset, and are surprised when I tell them that I am. Best Buy has it in sale for $69.99 now, normally $89.99.

The speaker is loud but not loud enough for an industrial environment! My solution was to buy the sony smartwatch and pair it with my note2 and the watch vibrates when the phone rings and for messages etc..

are you facing this problem only while you play music or also video? maybe you got a corrupted .mp3 file but i don't think it is caused by that
It's normal, one x has quiet speaker, when i listen to, say, hard electro, or anything else that has stronger kick bass, everything else gets distorted when kick hits, but for low bass stuff the speaker is good.

I had the same problem to the point I couldn't hear it ringing, so I got a soft toothbrush dampened it slightly and brushed the speaker it drastically improved the sound, I have to do it frequently

Speaker hype

So I have heard lots of great things about the speakers on this phone and I'm trying to decide if it's a lot of hype or if I got a phone with bad speakers. I have had the phone for 10 days now and while the clarity is good I'm not impressed with how loud the speakers are. Example is 4 of us were standing around a table watching you tube video yesterday and I wanted some more volume but it was all the way up. We could all hear ok but it wasn't overly loud. Another example is I turned on music player and cranked it all the way up and took a shower, phone was about 3 feet from the shower and I could barely hear the music. So I'm looking for your opinion did I get sub par speakers or am I expecting to much from these speakers?

I have not had a chance to compare it to another HTC one,but I just compared it to my old droid incredible 2 and the incredible 2 is every bit as loud if not louder. The one sounds a little better but like I said it is no louder than the old incredible 2. Hoping someone that used to have a incredible 2 can let me know what they think also.

I just compared my old dinc2 with my One, playing the same songs on each phone separately and at the same time, and the One was a little louder than the dinc2. Not by much, but definitely louder. However, the audio quality of the One is much, much better. Though I will happily listen to audio on my One while working, I never did that with the dinc2 given its speaker audio quality. As far as max volume is concerned, mine is plenty loud and I don't need it to be any louder.
Maybe stop by a Verizon store and compare the volume of yours with the display phone.
Mine isn't that much louder than my wife's iPhone either.

I stopped by Verizon today and did just that. I loaded a pearl jam song on both phones on youtube and they sounded the same. But I do agree with you that the sound quality on the one is far superior to the incredible 2, I just wish it was a little louder.

And this is the kind of thing I had heard about the phones speakers before I got it to lead me to believe that the speakers are even better than they are. You must have some better acoustics in your shower than I do. Over all I am happy with the speakers so I wont complain to much.
I've basically found that while this phone isn't all that much louder than other devices I've had. I came from the S4 and that was pretty loud.
However, the One has infinitely better clarity when it comes to the audio. I'll take that. Now if by some crazy magic they can figure out bass, but given the space available I'm sure that will never happen.
I have and have had a lot of android devices. Some of which (Galaxy Nexus) the speaker volume was so low that is required many tweaks via the kernel and third party apps to make it even reasonable. I agree with you that there is a lot of hype in the "boom sound" of the HTC One. Personally, I don't find the volume to be extremely loud but I do find the quality of the sound to be better than any of my other devices. The thin devices we all love jam so much into their size that the speakers often suffer. If you prefer loudness over the quality of the sound there are third party apps you could try. For me the sound is plenty loud and sounds great.
Loudest phone i've ever had. Some things don't seem like they're are that much louder, if noticeable than other phones, but obviously you have the clarity. Youtube may not be the best test as the audio isn't always the greatest. One thing i can note is when volume is maxxed, the notifications are ridiculously loud.
Seems pretty loud to me. I use it to listen to music while I shower and the fan is on. Still hear it fine. I'll be damned if another phone could match that performance.
Seems to be hit and miss with people. I think some had unrealistic expectations. Honestly for me they are perfect. You have to realize in any noisy environment nothing will hold up short of a real larger speaker. These things are outstanding when compared to any other phone.
With beats enabled the volume seems a bit quieter but the quality is much better out of the speakers. If you need a little louder try turning off beats.
?
So which phone would everyone say is the loudest?
If I remember my specs correctly, since there are two speakers, the One can do stereo audio.
My droid DNA was louder than the One but you had to have the phone on a flat surface as a reflector.

Speakerphone (loudness, clarity)

Proper etiquette aside (hint: don't use speakerphone while doing your "business" in a public bathroom), rate this thread to express how you think the LG G5's speakerphone performs. A higher rating indicates that you love it: it's loud and it's clear.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
The speakers are incredible! Surprised by how small and still powerful a speaker could be. At first look you are hoing to think "they probably suck!" but very soon you find out they are very bassy and clear
Much better than the Sony Z3 and surprisingly loud and clear.

OMG its so night and day. I used to have to embarrassingly ask people to speak up because my phone has volume issues. The G5 speakerphone and earpiece volume is refreshing. LOL
i'm glad they did not hop onto the water proof hype train.
even though you will hear some noise when you listen to stuff on max volume this speaker is performing insanely well.
sadly in gaming i tend to close the holes with my hand. i guess there will be upcoming modules that will boost the speaker even further.. keep in mind the speaker is part of the modules.
Very happy with the speaker as well. I'm surprised by how rich the sound is. This definitely isn't your average phone speaker.
Very happy with the speaker and speakerphone.
It vibrated in louder settings and made it feel very cheap I'm disappointed with LG with this! The whole chin chamber rattled. Volume and sound though was very good.
Its pretty good but at loud volume it does vibrate,

Love the phone, but it vibrates at high volume. It's a bit like holding a jar full of angry wasps.
However I've now put the phone in a bumper case, and it's much much better..
I didn't think my G5 would have such a great speaker, but man I was pleasantly surprised. The speaker is both loud AND clear.
Agreed, really loud and nice.
i come from z5c and i miss its sound. maybe less strong but my g5 above half volume bar does vibrate and thus generating a loud noise. maybe a fault with my magic slot?
The the quality rocks compared to my S7. Don't expect wonders but i was really surprised.
Even better with Viper4Android.
When using youtube, anything below 50% is hardly audible. Is it just me or others are also experiencing such problem?

Yeah i think thats true . But the phone gets really loud from step to step in the last volume steps . Loud enough . I compared it to my old Note 4 with Volume boost and it was noticable louder . So i am really satisfied .
One of the best single speakers in a phone.
Is it significantly louder than the Galaxy S7? How's it compare to the LG G4?
I went from an LG G4 (which has an amazing speaker) to the Galaxy S7 and everything about the phone has been a disappointment. I'm returning it and gonna get the LG G5. Does it have any bootloop issues? That's why I'm in this situation of choosing a new phone in the first place, and why I didn't go to straight to the G5. I dare say the G4 was better than this S7 (before it bootlooped...). Didn't realize Samsung took out the IR sensor or had such a **** speaker. Also didn't realize just how dependent I have become on having a removable battery. Speaker is important because I watch Netflix and Amazon Prime in bed with my fan on.
I barely use my loudspeaker but it already sounds blown out at 75% not happy at all.
