Features (of chipset and/or hardware) which aren't supported (yet) - LG G7 ThinQ Questions & Answers

Hi there, this is my first thread. Just trying to list some of the things the G7's S845 chipset and underlying Android Oreo OS would allow for but which are not available in the current state of the LG G7. This concerns the European model, although it may share the feature aspects with its other counterparts.
I shall concentrate on the sheer existence of a feature, not on how one likes or even needs it. This aims to avoid posts like "yeah, it's not there but nobody needs it anyway" and ensuing discussions of any kind.
Feel free to correct me on my conclusions and also add your points if you like. I aim to update the list in a timely manner.

Hardware stuff
Qualcomm Quick Charge 4 technology
Is it available? Does the included charger support it? My current understanding (source: threads in this forum) leads me to think that there's a Quick Charge 3 charger and technology in use.
USB C to HDMI and/or DisplayPort
Not sure if this is a dedicated hardware limitation (missing chip, etc.) or something LG has disabled in the OS. I haven't tried this output method so far but from forum reports, it seems like it's not available.
[Edit] Seems like LG disabled it.
Software items (might overlap with hardware stuff at times)
Ultra HD 4K (3840x2160) 60fps video recording
[Edit] Came with "V10f" update in July. It therefore is available.
Slow motion HD (720p) video up to 480fps or FHD (1080p) up to 240fps
I saw the 240fps feature being available but only in 720p whereas the Snapdragon is capable of 480fps at that resolution.
Android Guest mode (account). What is this?
There's an option to add other accounts on your device but not the dedicated "guest" feature which enables some more restrictive rights than just adding another user.
WIFI calling (VoWiFi)
[Edit] available since the update -see VoLTE text for details-
Voice over LTE (VoLTE); VoWIFI
[Edit] There was an update today which seems to have added some carriers, which includes mine. I guess LG is on it to provide the functionality to more people as it becomes more relevant.
Additionally, the corresponding update is called ""VoLTE VoWIFI Enabler" and came automatically via the integrated updater. So there's reason to believe that VoWIFI also gained more support (which I cannot test personally). I shall mark both points as being available form now on.
Format SD card as internal storage
Does not work. Enforcing "allow apps on external" via developer options does not touch on this functionality but may serve to help in some cases where apps, by default, do not offer the option to use the sd card.
Scramble PIN entry keypad
A small item, but I kinda liked it in other OS versions. I actually have that option with other phones but not with the LG G7.
(auto) "OK" after PIN entry
Adding to the above item, it would be neat to not being bound to press ok after entering the correct PIN.
Use volume keys (long press) to change to next/previous track
I'm actually amazed that this feature isn't available. Seems like a trait most original OS implementations share, while every custom ROM I owned of course supported it.
Misc
(Officially) Unlocked bootloader
[Edit] Done: https://www.xda-developers.com/international-lg-g7-bootloader-unlock/

G6 didn't, and someone else here mentioned that the G7 doesn't either, support video out with a USB-C to HDMI cable.
Sent from my LM-G710 using Tapatalk

That's a point to make indeed, but can we deduct that it should work from the specs of the chipset and/or the Oreo features and that LG has just disabled the feature?
Anyway, I shall add it to the hardware section. Thanks for the input.

Actually, G7's bootloader is unlockable in Europe, see https://www.xda-developers.com/international-lg-g7-bootloader-unlock/
And another thing, I'm on V10d branded TIM IT (which is my SIM provider) and I have VoLTE without doing anything in particular (screenshot attached).

Ah, must have missed that. Will edit my list to reflect it. Thanks for the heads-up.
And on the VoLTE feature, as mentioned in the list, it seems like it's a combination of vendor and carrier work, so it shall remain in the index for as long as some fellows still report the lack of the feature while using major carriers in their country. O2 for example is not supporting it in full, although they are selling the device.
I will update the list accordingly.

USB C to HDMI and/or DisplayPort
It is a shame.
Lg has disabled this feature via software.
I have revised the kernel sources and you can see that they have disabled it.
Furthermore when you connect a displayport adapter, the smartphone detect it properly and told you that is not allowed. If somebody konw how to compile a new kernel we may take back this great feature.
Kernel source:
http://opensource.lge.com/osSch/list...ME&search=G710
You can compare it with lg v30 or galaxy s9, both support HDMI output.View attachment 4542686

May you can move this issue to ROM, Kernel Section? I am sure that a good developer can solve this problem and take back HDMI output.

Not sure how to move things but I've added a heads-up to my signature, so that other folks are able to see our small list and perhaps add to it or even work on enabling certain features.

LG g7 Indonesia supports HDMI out, adoptable storage
G7 camera sensor (imx351) only supports up to 240fps
QC4 / USB PD is locked at 18W max

Thanks for those details. Do you happen to have some sources for them?

Android Pie update brings this feature to LG G7 . Just got the update today and tested this function. Soon after connecting, get black bars on all 4 sides. Just pinch out, you get a normal display on TV. Nice

Firefox OS port for Desire Z?

Hello
Will we see a Firefox OS port for the Desire Z?

If you read up on Firefox os chances are that our phone isn't the best suited for it and being there are so few developers left here it is unlikely someone wants to pick up a project of this sort that will unlikely run well on the g2/dz
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Firefox OS for Vision? Not so sure. It's not even commercial yet (I don't think, not in UK at least) so if we do see it on our device it won't be for a while. Unless you're willing to do it, of course, I'd definitely give it a go if that were the case. There are guides out there, and I'm certain the Vision is powerful enough to run it.
If you're anxious to try it, you can run it on your PC, either by emulating ARM or running the x86 OS.
If you're anxious to try it on your Desire Z, you're probably in for a long wait. You'll see it on Nexus before it comes to our device, and even that has yet to happen.
Patience, young padawan.
FYI, being a long time satisfied HTC Desire Z user and hacking on B2G for a while now (with Nexus S) I started working on running B2G on this device.
While it works not that bad, I limited myself to a quick hack thanks to the fosmaker tool. It needs a bit of help at Gecko and Gaia level :
- hwcomposer is not working, because it is an old version. This might result in some degraded graphic performances
- automatic brightness is gaia does not like the light sensor of this device, and sets the level too low when not facing light
- automatic network selection somehow is not enabled by default by the RIL, we need to force it on gecko side
- data call reply is incorrectly read by gecko, thus making him think the data call did not succeeded while it did
- physical keyboard events are correctly grabbed but do not make it to the destination, I have no ide why yet
- remapping the trackpad to the home button works, but you need to teach the keyboard input mapper layer of gecko/gonk about the Android keycodes for this (since the scancode it emulates is a mouse left click)
- placing calls/sms works, with the limitation that somehow main audio channel stays mute after a call is ended: no sound from keypad, videos, etc. But you can still call without any issue and it might be an issue I'm reproducing on other devices ...
- picture/video recording used to work last week, it got broke, but there's huge refactoring still happening on gfx layers, and gralloc is far from being correctly handled
- bluetooth works, I could pair with another Firefox OS phone (Nexus S) and exchange files
So to have something very perfect there is still some work to do, but nothing impossible if you want and have time. Anyone willing to hack and support this device is welcome to contribute !
This is more PoC patch than totally perfect (even if some part is waiting review to get into master), yet I added support (hackish) for forcing network automatic selection, support for the old ril so that SIM IO works and also data calls.
I don't have the time to ensure active support, but I can help someone who would like to.
Hello,
Those patches got a bit outdated, but current B2G master runs quite fine on Desire Z . Especially, thanks to Michael Wu's help, we have been able to test and acknowledge patches that makes the physical keyboard working, the bug being tracked at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=890186.
So if anyone is willing to jump in and help support B2G on this device, there is some nice and not too hard work to perform to enhance the support, please do not hesitate to ask me
FYI I've updated my branch with latest master and rebased some commits: BerTlvHelper just landed, and it processes FCP Template payload correctly, so I'm making use of it! So far I also fixed data call, the only thing I can't understand is why I have to force automatic mode by hand a couple of times to get RIL to register automatically on the correct network.
Some of the RIL related changes have finally been merged, thanks to a concurrent effort made by sku for supporting Fugu device. Having discussed with him, we are on good track to have the needed changes for Desire Z merged some day .
I still have a separate branch for: data call handling, home button hacking. Meanwhile, I'm stuck for building a complete image because of the lack of buildable sources for either 4.0.4 or 4.3 ROMs for this device. Hacking on prebuilt images has its limits when it comes to having nice and complete support ... If some of you can help me on this specific point any help is appreciated !
FTR, the master-HTC_Vision branch is available at https://github.com/lissyx/mozilla-central/tree/master-HTC_Vision
Just to summup since a couple of people asked me this by other channels: more or less most of the features are working. Major breakages are on Camera and Video decoding, which are broken.
My current setup to get B2G on this device is:
- follow the build steps that are documented on the Mozilla Wiki.
- configure (BRANCH=master) and build for an ICS-based device ; emulator should be fine, I'm re-using my Nexus S source tree.
- make sure to checkout my master-HTC_Vision branch for the gecko repository.
- flash an ICS ROM on the device, I'm using Andromads Audacity beta 5.
- extract boot.img, add a import init.b2g.rc line at the top, and add a init.b2g.rc file from the b2g gonk-misc repository, then flash back this new boot.img
- extract system.img, inject /system/bin/b2g.sh, /system/bin/rilproxy and /system/bin/fakeperm. Also inject /system/b2g/ and flash back this new system.img
- you can use the fosmaker (http://code.google.com/p/fosmaker/) project to perform those two steps: beware that fosmaker embeds an old version of b2g, so you'll have to search for its b2g/ subdirectory in the provided tarball and replace it with what you built.
On next reboot of the device, you should get B2G working.
Just a quick update to let you know that I rebased my master-HTC_Vision branch against uptodate master. Since there have been changes in the RIL worker, I hacked my code and finally fixed the automatic network selection by forcing automatic mode. So this is working not that bad, now
Another quick update with pics to show that I'm not bluffing . One pic of H264 playback on the device from within Browser app, and another of geolocation in HERE Maps.

I'm still pushing to this master-HTC_Vision branch.
FYI, I get camera working if I build Gecko re-using my Keon's source tree
Hello,
I'm still hacking this, even though I have a hard time with the Camera: on Gecko master built from Keon's tree, it partly works. When camera preview runs, if you take a picture, you get a photo taken but it's all scrambled. This does not reproduces with the same exact code except if you turn off the preview in the Camera app (by hacking it). So you can takes pictures, but blindly.
Apart from this, I've pushed rebased code to the master-HTC_Vision on top of current master, and took some time to fix network. I now get my MVNO SIM card with a PIN code detected, I can unlock it, it correctly automatically select network, and I can place calls, send/receive SMS, place data calls (HSDPA).
No big news, I'm still pushing regular updates for the gecko branch for this device, still the same issues
Hello!
Is there any news about this project? Does it build and run?
Thanks!

Well I'm still pushing Gecko to the branch and building it, so yes, it does work, but it's not off the shelf .
FYI I've been recently relying on Desire Z for hacking and testing a LED API in Gecko.
Hi !
I've tried to follow your intruction, and the one on mozilla's website, but I get stuck on the HTC*logo.
Are you planning on adding a new configuration tree for the Desire Z ? So, it would be easier to build a version.
Thanks

No. Thanks for trying though, but I don't have a configuration tree even to build, it's a total hack and I cannot afford spending much time than this kind of hacking. If you are willing to, I can help you though

The galaxy s4 has a learn function too on their IR? Anyways! I'll try this too... Combine it with antifish' app should be best of both worlds.

right now S4 can learn ir codes, and HTC one cant. but author inform me, new version with code learning will release on 15 Jun. hope it comes out on time.
hrm strange,,,the One has the ability to learn codes I thought. When it didnt find my TV in 3 tries it had me hold the remote up to the IR and hold the power button until it "learned"

Are you sure about this? I have already browsed through the IR API of the galaxy s4 + Xperia ZL also as a bonus and I am very sure it doesn't support learning IR codes as it doesn't even have any IR receiver. Unlike the HTC One which has one and in fact very2x easy to implement in an application...
Maybe you or the author got the info wrong and switched accidentally?
Edit:
Ok I understand now! The app requires a seperate hardware to learn IR codes No wonder you mentioned S4 can learn IR codes Sorry for not testing the app first before asking.

On the Screenshots you can see n8000 as an option. Will it be fully supported in later versions? Would like to test the learning function, because until now the integrated ir is useless.
Tried it, and it looks very promising... quite a 'polished' UI, even if the translations need a lot of work.
I couldn't get it to actually function (transmit a working IR) at all on the HTC One, but other aspects of the app are quite appealing, esp the 'designer' where a user can design their own remote.
So far it looks roughly on a par with Smart IR - admitting that Smart IR has a much nicer device selection UI, and equally attractive remote control appearance, but it doesn't have quite as flexible a layout scheme as iControl.
HTC one has the senser to learn Not S4, correct me if i am wrong.
I used SmartRemote app on S4 and HTC one, Only HTC has learning fucntion

some android 4.2.2 device have this problem, didn't transmit IR, i already updated the download link which can support android 4.2.2.
I find the ir blaster on the HTC to be better than s4
On HTC you can point the phone anywhere away from the tv and it turns channels and powers off .
The s4 has to be pointed directly at the tv.

He just said he does not have it yet. I am pretty lucky to have one with 9377 WiFi/BT chip.
Sorry for the double post, I tested the custom ROM yesterday. Netflix works out of the box, without the need to modify anything. Everything else is pretty much the same. It does have some apps preinstalled that I do not want. I went back to the official one, especially since the guy in charge for the ROM does not have the device anymore and did not develop a version for the box with the other WiFi chipset.

I found the ROM quite a bit better then the 106 firmware.
-seemed a bit smoother (although this is highly subjective)
-kodi dark screen issue is gone
-I like the reboot app he added
-youtube works perfectly as is up to 1080p
most importantly, it looks like he might be continuing development, some of the members at freaktab are working to get him some donations so he can buy another GT1, hes very close to having the enough to buy another GT1.
I never had any black or green screen, none of those issues that some other people complained about with official firmware. I gave it away, since I got the Q10 Pro at a very good price. I will continue to monitor it because I gave it to a colleague and I want him to have the best experience he can get on the GT1.

DEFAULT UNROOTED
Bugs SCV9-ATV:
On 1º boot when you setup in english language the on screen keyboard may not show when you going to put you wifi password, to fix it go back and change to another language go to the wifi password click it to show the on screen keyboard when it shows go back to the language selection screen and choose english again and it should be ok now on the wifi password. YOU ONLY NEED TO DO THIS ONCE!
Only update "su" if you are going to to stay at root if are not going to stay at root and you are going to be doing a lot of changes between the two dont update it! Or you will get a boot animation loop...
Ugoos Firefly after you enable it and reboot still says its off but its not true, its on!
Google cast dont work(missing Widevine L1), use ugoos Firefly for casting videos and pics of your phone to the tvbox.

Get 120 HZ Refresh Rates on your Galaxy S10 and Note 10 Devices

A guide to access the hidden 120 HZ display settings in your Galaxy S10 and Note 10 Devices
*Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any battery drains, boot loops or anything that harms your devices by using the below application and guide*
Pre-requisites:
1. Make sure you have the latest OneUI 2.1 Update.

"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2. Not on "medium power savings mode" (It only works on optimized or high-performance mode)
3. Your screen resolution must not be in WQHD+
4. Installed "Activity Launcher App" by Adam Szalkowski Download from Play Store.. Let's give him a thumbs up on the Play Store.
Step 1 :
Open the Activity Launcher App from the app drawer and in the search box type the keywords "motion" or "smoothness" and you should be able to see an Activity with com.android.settings.$HighRefreshRatesSettignsActivity
Step 2 :
Click on it and this Activity should open up (make sure you're not using WQHD+ screen resolution and not in any power savings mode).
Step 3:
Choose the High Refresh Rate (120 HZ) option and click Apply! Your screen will now refresh at 120 HZ.
P.S: I am not sure how much of a difference you'll find but I could feel the difference overall. I haven't tested the battery drain on using this. I'll update the thread once I get the results done.

is working but don't see any difference !!
@CsabaZz Maybe because you don't understand how the hardware works. Display refresh rates can be overclocked in your PC monitors, the same way quite some phone screens refresh rates were overclocked and I strongly recommend you to take a good read on the forums.
Why don't you question Samsung on their forums and see why this option is available on S10 & Note 10 devices.
Let's not be rude on the forum.

No. Exynos too. I flashed via Odin One Ui 2.1 and I got this option in activity launcher. I don't know how much of a difference it makes. I think I feel some kind of difference but maybe it is a placebo effect.
There are apps and web sites testing and providing information about refresh rate. Go and see - it will not change if you tick 120Hz. S10 has 60Hz (or 60 FPS, if you want). Just because an S20 setting can be found on S10 (which is hidden by default), it does not mean that it will work.

Agreed
Tested myself as i own s20 ultra and s10+ . On the s10+ even on the "120hz" settings it has a refresh rate 60hz verified by an app witch shows 120hz on thé s20 ultra so unfortunetly this is not possible due to hardware..
120hz won't work on S10+ ... just do one think after choosing 120hz options from the settings try using this adb command and if 96hz doesn't work keep going down !! Like 90hz or 70hz
adb shell settings put system peak_refresh_rate 96.0
adb shell settings put system min_refresh_rate 96.0
Original post is from S20 thread - https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...te-to-96hz-t4073867/post82130937#post82130937
And please do it at your own risk !!!
After using this and applying 120hz setting, it didnt work. I tested the fps from multiple apps and all of them are showing 60hz.
Considering how samsung has always been eager to be the first one to introduce bleeding edge tech. It wouldn't be like them to hide the potential of their displays. Samsung has said in the past that they provided 90hz panels to oneplus and other brands but didn't use them themselves bcz they weren't fully confident about the colour accuracy and other parameters. As much as I'd like this news about 120hz on s10+ to be true I don't believe it is.
This is for sure not gonna work on the N10+ as we don't have the software or hardware to support it. The screen is not able to do it.
So if it doesn't work, then what's the point of using it? For decorative purposes or just to have a useless button that says "120 hz" in the screen settings menu?
This should be locked and deleted since this doesn't work and is clearly just an oversight and time saving on samsung's part in developing the S20 software
Guys, this menu is not visible or accessible by default on S10. Complaining about why it is there at all is pointless. The new UI's code is probably common between the S10 and 20 and some menu elements use a feature flag to switch unnecessary or not supported parts on/off. That's all. This thread could be closed, anyway.
I think I know what is going on. One Ui 2.1 has improved animations (in comparison to 2.0), and this is why we think (placebo effect) that by enabling this hidden menu, the refresh rate has been increased.
:good:
i don't see any harm sharing this tidbit regardless of whether hardware supports it or not

It simply cannot work.
First the hardware does not support it. If it did work Samsung woulve advertised the same.
Second, you have to launch it via an activity manager which means samsung didn't want you to discover the feature in the first go.
Third, I'm pretty sure Samsung will remove it over the next couple of updates as it's only for the S20's hardware.

You are right. Don't know why, but right after update I only had 4 modes available. Checked it again, now I have 5 as before.
Whatever happened here.

Same as always. Install update, DO NOT REBOOT, in Magisk choose to install to inactive slot, reboot.
If you have magisk modules enabled you might want to disable or uninstall those before installing the update as some modules can cause the device to boot loop after an update.
Thanks, works great

OnePlus has officially announced OxygenOS v10.5.10 (Global & India)/10.5.9 (EU) only for the OnePlus 8 Pro. However, OnePlus 8 users are also receiving a similar update, as noted by XDA Developers. This appears to be a gradual rollout as not a lot of eligible 8 and 8 Pro owners have received the build yet. You can either wait for the official OTA to hit your unit or download the incremental update files from the links below — if you're in a supported region. US updates "will soon follow."

Just a note to people like me waiting for AA global - I was told by OnePlus that it should come out in the next few days.
Was also told it comes later because the India and European updates are regional, and AA is global, so there is more work needed to prepare it for all the rest
Can someone Co firm that this update do not removes nor modify the color camera?
Is there any camera improvement that is worth the upgrade?

Have seen nothing on the upcoming AA, but should be the same as the ones out already. So check them out.
The change log report the add of the h.265 code to the video. That would be a nice improvement
