Android "O" or "P" Development possibilities for Sony Xperia M dual?
Hello developers around XDA...
I am currently using Ressurection Remix Final nougat 7.1.2 build in sony xperia m dual (C2004). The performance is good for daily task but since its release there has not been updates released by them. In mean time, google had released its new build ( Android "O" and "P"). i haven't seen any developer is working for this build for sony xperia m dual may be developers are not interested to do so. but there are people who are still using this device in the era of dual camera smartphones and building a new android "o" or "p" based rom could be challenging for developers to get performance equivalent to this device. I am very much excited to have those rom and do like to test it to increase its performance and stability. Hope to hear positive approach:good:.

Android P is out of the question because Sony Xperia M doesn't support even unofficially treble. About Android O if any dev feels like porting one, it will also be non-treble and hopefully without bugs.

Nobody is making upcoming 5.0 for XS btw many @ googleplex might be readying it for the next nexus i'd suggest you start learning compiling and debugging aosp roms while you wait so that when 5.0 finally arrives you don't have to stat a thread like this if nobody else shows interest

Keep in mind that my Xperia X10 was left on gingerbread by Sony (and AT&T stopped at 2.1 eclair). Now the 3 year old phone has run past Ice cream sandwich and Has very nice daily use jelly bean roms.
All thanks to the great XDA developers. Some of them still have/use the device as main phone and a few develop as a 2nd phone.
From my Xperia LT28at ION
I believe developers will do custom ROM for 5.0. After SONY drop jelly bean for Arc S still there are developer supporting the device.

Xperia ZL 4.3/4.4

Sony Mobile has just confirmed that it plans to update ten Xperia handsets to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean from December 2013 onwards. The handsets on the list includes the Xperia Z series (Z, ZL, ZR, Z Ultra, Z1 and Tablet Z) along with the Xperia SP. It also confirmed that a number of older handsets will also get Android 4.3 including the Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V.
A number of recent lower-end handsets have not made the list at all though, including the Xperia L, Xperia M and Xperia C. The Xperia L and Xperia M should be able to handle the upgrade, so maybe Sony has decided not to update these handsets given their positioning. This would be a shame though especially since they only launched within the last six months. The Xperia C has limited availability so we can understand if that was left off due to commercial reasons. We’ll keep you posted as the countdown to the Android 4.3 update commences.

Saw this today also, great news......... 4.4 will also be coming to the Z series also ......
Why they didn't just update directly to 4.4 and skip 4.3? It will make more sense.

How's the performance of the eXistenZ ROM and Kernal? Does it improve the ZL's battery life?

[Q] Android L

Is the Z1C going to receive this new android version? I know that it depends on Sony and developers to do the work when the development kit is available, but still, it would be great If the Z1C received this update.

Why developers aren't working on this device?

I have a 5 years old mid-range smartphone Samsung Galaxy s4 mini(19192) few days back i flashed lineage os 15.1 on it, and lineage os 15.1 is based on Android 8.1 with January 5,2k18 security patch and on the other hand i have this Xperia z5 premium which is 2.5 years old but still no oreo roms are available for this...so if a mid-range old device can get oreo update and have tons of custom roms then why the developers aren't making rom for Xperia z5 premium?

Finally a question that I can help answer!!
There are several reasons why development for the Sony Z5 Premium is very very slow.
Samsung devices are FAR more popular on the market then Sony https://www.statista.com/statistics/271496/global-market-share-held-by-smartphone-vendors-since-4th-quarter-2009/. So it would make sense that since Samsung is more popular then there would be more development for that brand in general.
Limited development for Sony devices is partly because Sony isn't very helpful in releasing information needed to help our volunteer developers. Custom ROMs need the access to the device's kernel. A kernel is a piece of proprietary software developed by the phones manufacture that allows the operating system to talk to the hardware. Sony is not very helpful in releasing details about their device's kernels. This means our volunteer developers have to work 1000x harder to get limited functionality from the device. Samsung on the other hand is a little more generous with releasing their kernels for public development.
As an aspiring programmer, I respect that it takes a lot of SKILL and TIME to develop ROMs, root mechanisms, and any other work that is needed to bring a new feature to a cell phone. This is done by passionate volunteers who have lives besides making contributions to this community. If you're that interested and passionate in helping these developers then I recommend that you get actively involved in the development community.
I hope this helps. It's frustrating but this is the reality. Even more frustrating is that I just learned that my Z5P has a permanently locked bootloader. I won't be able to play with any of these custom ROMs

Sony Z1 compact

Hej, i was thinking of buying a used xperia Z1 compact, or a Z2 etc, an older Sony xperia.
I read some guides that explain you can install android 8 or even 9 on them, is this reliable? Obviously, a Z1 or Z2 or anything that old will be having an older android OS, limiting the phone to various apps and features.
By installing/modding a Z1 compact with android 9, would i get all the modern features that a 'modern' phone would have, that is equipped with Oreo or Pie?
Also, the Z1 compact can be rooted/modded to have 120fps/4k video recording already since 2014, will one get this functionality by installing android 8 or 9?
https://www.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-z1-and-z1-compact-get-4k-and-120-fps-video-recording/
Found the below guides for installing a newer android, but these guides seem not so great?
http://theupgradeguide.com/2019/10/...a-z1-compact-resurrection-remix-how-to-guide/
Those phones can be had rather cheap used, and i really like those phones. Have one with a shattered screen, but fixing that would be more costly then getting another one used.
Also, another question, a Z2 which screen doesnt respond sometimes to touch, is that generally a software or hardware problem?
Thanks alot for the input! :highfive:
