Do I really have to wait 7 days for OEM unlock to appear? - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

I just got this S9+ today and I cannot find OEM unlock under Developer Options. I read that the only way is to wait 7 days and then it will appear. Is that true?

Yes as long as it is a Exynos S9, Snapdragon will never appear

Sick of Qualcomms locked bootloaders. I had to deal with this on the S7, S8, and S9. Think I may be finished with the Galaxy.

Buy Exynos instead?

2 things:
1) there absolutely are unlockable Snapdragons. Only the US and Canada have perm locked ones. Don't believe the hype.
2) you might be able to skip ahead on the lock, but it doesn't always work and I think later firmware blocks it. It worked for me once but not the second time. It's a lot more likely to work if you don't have RMM status: Prenormal. Search xda to find out what that means if you don't know.
As for skipping the wait, there was an xda article about it this week or last week, should be easy to find. Also, if you have RMM status: normal (you see nothing about RMM in download mode) you can just flash the combination rom for your device and it's oem unlock it's always there. Doesn't work with Prenormal though

@partcyborg Unfortunately, mine says pre-normal so I am forced to wait the 7 days. I came back to Liverpool two days ago and I had over 60 hours of uptime by then, but as soon as I inserted my Three UK sim card, I got a notification and was basically forced to reboot my device. I tried everything I can to try and dismiss that pop-up but I couldn't. The uptime was reset and now I have 22 hours which is extremely frustrating. Do you think the reboot messed things up or could it actually be counting from the 60+ hours it already had?

There is a thread on the forums that says you can change the date or something like that to "trick" it into thinking you have had it the 7 days... I don't know for sure if it works because I have a US T-mobile version, just figured I'd share what I came across...

Rebooting does not reset the 7d counter. All reports of that being a thing are fake news. You are fine

You were right. Someone on reddit also told me the same thing when I first purchased the phone and although the uptime was reset after I rebooted the device, OEM unlock showed up exactly 7 days later regardless so that was great!

@partcyborg, what about SIM card, is that required, or another myth?
Just got a SM-G9600 (TPA/Panama). I don't have any SIM in it, and waiting for 7 days to get out of prenormal. Had to take the August RH4, which must have included BL update as I couldn't odin back to July RF4.
Btw, the date bypass trick didn't work for me, either before the update or afterward. I'm curious how Samsung keeps track of the 7 days. If it's solely on the phone, then the date trick would have worked; they probably moved it to server side somehow (I watched my network traffic when doing the manual update, but should have done it earlier when enabling the dev options).

Device State - locked

I know there are other threads regarding this but those included someone having TWRP already flashed and in this case I do not.
I sadly took a chance and bought a Nexus 5X off someone on Kijiji and it looks like I got got scammed.
I've own other Nexus phones in the past but was unaware of the OEM Lock on the latest devices and it is in a locked state and I do not know the google account to unlock it (as it wasn't my phone prior to this)
None of the fastboot/adb commands work as it is locked.
I just wanted to know if there was any other way I could fix this or if I have brick on my hands here. Any assistance would be amazing as this would mean I just blew my money away.

So you purchased a 5X that wasn't factory reset? Have you tried asking the previous owner for assistance? They might be able to remotely wipe the phone using Android Device Manager.

Sadly you may be right, but like any good thief he seems to be unreachable, so I unfortunately can't get the money back. I have checked the IMEI and it is clean so i should be able to activate it.
I just need a way to bypass the FRP (Factory Reset Protection). I've seen posts on this on XDA but they are for patches up to the March 1st Patch. I build I have is the March Patch and I can't seem to find any workarounds for this patch level.
In the event that someone has found a way please let me know as it would save me a lot of grief.
Thank you for your responses.

I don't know if will help, but the N preview may not include or may reset FRP. Usually OTAs only include the changed files but since the N preview was bricking locked phones, Google released full OTAs that contained everything. You could try flashing it with ADB while in the stock recovery.

I was thinking the same thing but I don't want to make the situation worse than it already is. I have seen vids from RootJunky showing that the N preview is bypassable and it can be done with a reset.
Will the OTA wipe all the data on the device?
Just to be clear are these the OTA's you are referring too? http://developer.android.com/preview/download-ota.html
Thank you for your advice.

Bummer. I was going to suggest THIS. But there isnt a 16 TOT file.
So you were able to successfully flash N from the stock recovery? And you simply couldnt get past the login screen? FRP is a *****. I had no idea what it was when I sold my Moto X Pure Edition last year. I ended up giving the guy I sold it to my password so he could unlock it. That was after about a day of searching for a workaround. Then my sis bought a G4 and when it arrived it was locked with FRP. We ended up finding a tool to wipe it out. Such a pain. Lol. Good luck finding a solution. Let us know if you get it working some other way.

I unfortunately don't have a sim to test with. The one in my current is a micro not a nano. I am going to contact a repair store tomorrow to see if they can assist and I will try it out.
Sorry yes I did exactly as he suggested and it didn't work.
It gives me the option during setup to setup like it was a new phone but then as soon as I connect to my WiFi it performs a check and states the same reset message.
Which is why I might be thinking that it is the 72 hour lock on and maybe it will go away once it is complete.

I would try it again. If you factory reset from within android, it should disable FRP, including the need to wait 72 hrs.
I wouldn't bother with the repair shop. The latest and greatest info is going to be on the internet and probably from rootjunky.

You will need to verify you Lenovo account, an e-mail will be sent to the address you used to set up your account. Once verified go back to OEM/Bootloader unlock to start the 14day wait.

No. The July security update came on August. The first post on this thread came in July. So, this has nothing to with the new security patch. I checked two days ago and it synced correctly. It was only yesterday that I started experiencing this issue. I just hope it's a temporary problem.

I think we have proof now that is not an isolated issue. A lot of us are experiencing it at the same time. There was a similar issue last week for OTA updates, but after some pressure in the Lenovo forum, the servers were back online. I don't know if this is a temporary problem and the servers will be online soon, or OEM unlock service is down for good.

I am having the LenovoID without permission issue but this is happening when trying to turn on allow OEM bootloader unlocking in the developer options and I believe this has to be turned on before the fastboot command will work.
When I try the fastboot command of fastboot OEM get_unlock_data to get the code I need to convert for the unlock code, it returns Not Found for all values.
I contacted sorry about this but they want talk about it because they don't 'support it', I sent them the link for getting the code converted (https://motorola-global-en-uk.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-b) and said if you don't support it why do you offer the service? OEM Unlock for Samsung S9 not shown

I have a brand new sealed Samsung S9 SM-G960F/DS which is most probably Exynos variant however I couldn't find OEM Unlock after activating the developer tools. I've googled that and was surprised that this is a recent Samsung policy and as mentioned by most users they've waited more than 7 days to see OEM Unlock so they can root the device. Any one was able to find an alternative or workaround solution instead of waiting 7 days since I don't have that much time to wait I need to root urgently before a birthday.

A member tested the combination ROM theory yesterday for the same purpose and it bootlooped their phone
The combination ROM will allow you to "OEM unlock" your device, but the RMM prenormal state will prevent you from flashing anything custom. I tried this when I first got my S9.
You need to wait the 7 days on stock in order to be able to actually bootloader unlock your device. Make sure to keep a SIM card in, connect a Samsung and Google account, and don't power it off. There is no workaround for this.

Wonder if it was because the combination ROM firmware is older than the current on the device
Did it factory reset after the flash? If not that might be causing the bootloop, or if the bootloader version is older on combination

Did you factory reset after flashing combination? That's the only thing I can think of that would cause the loop if you didn't

Yea I used Vanced too, much better than the original YT app
I always did full TWRP nandroid backups rather than TiBu, but it's a good app
Not really impressed with the lengths Samsung are going to to prevent us (the phone OWNERS) from doing what we want with OUR own phones tbh
There was a workaround to update system apps with Nougat, literally no harm done to Samsung with us doing that but they still patched it in Oreo
Starting to feel more like an iPhone than an Android, wasn't the whole point of Android that it was basically open and unlocked for us to play with?
Thing is though, Samsung make one of the best android devices available and they know locking it down isn't going to hurt their sales

Nice!! Updating Now
STOP!
DONT TAKE THE UPDATE BEFORE DOING THIS.
I ****ed up and forgot to do a logcat! That will get us the link address for the software update.
Please do these steps before taking that update
So the link won't let me post from thecustom Droid
https://www.cyanogenmods.org/how-to-capture-ota-android-update-url/
Long story sort. Install termux or Android terminal. Type in logcat. Go back to system updates and click install. Wait a few seconds and then click airplane mode or cancel to stop download. Go back to the terminal and find what url the OTA was coming from
Are you guys rooted? My OTA keeps failing , won't even download.

No root here, can't do anything until the Tool is ready for the T-Mobile 7T or I'm able pay it off then T-Mobile Twitter will unlock, then I can proceed with the unlock token process from OnePlus.... I was able to download the ota and install, no issues.....

Does anyone have a stock or modified boot img for our model? I am bricked at bootloader unlock screen and just spent two hours yelling at those idiots at OnePlus cause they are inept and no help. It's like they don't acknowledge our device exists and the software created itself.
same here I had my modem mismatched no signal and data, wifi too, but it boots. They tried to remote fix it, but they don't have the tmobile firmware yet, only O2 and india.

can anyone maybe sent us the modem image or boot image on the 10.0.3? if there's any

You can fastboot boot the x.3 and the x.4 I found out while trying to fix my phone. But WiFi doesn't work and who knows what else.
I have the OTA and tried pulling the boot img but it was 6am and I wanted to go to sleep.
Honestly just call and exchange your tmo 7t, just bite the bullet cause one plus is worthless.
I do highly recommend you call and be very angry about them not having the software. We all need to complain enough so they get their ass in gear

Man that is crazy cause they sim unlocked mine after 2 days.
You just reminded me that I have to fricking wait a week for the unlock token again .
I might have to start working on the msm tool out of spite cause I'm so pissed at OP right now
Maybe if there was MSM thats patched maybe this phone will boot up, tried pressing all the buttons, but nothing, bootloader will not show up. Tried the MSM tool for international and the phone gets recognized, when I press start its a mismatched=)
I am back, got the replacement last night and chatted with CSR, now I am SIM UNLOCK again, will wait next wednesday for unlock.bin=)

Exact same story here and probably just as pissed that we have to wait another 7 days
OnePlus has "escalated" my customer service complaint about them not having the software, which of course we all know means absolutely nothing.

How to root Samsung Galaxy a50 us model

I want to root my a50 soon. Is anyone have us model can root?
From what I understand this phone is very new. Not to mention that it's if you are on a U variant like I am sad there is no root because the bootloader is locked I believe. I was trying to confirm with an expert or someone who knows more than me. My variant is "SM-A505U1"
I just bought this model of phone.
I found this url.
http://androidbiits.com/root-samsung-galaxy-a50-sm-a505u1-easily/
All the steps are not clear to me though yet.
My phone has no oem or boot loader unlock options in the settings.
It also has knox which may complicate things.

My phone was bought unlocked. The device is not a/b and it is system-as-root
Found this bit of information on the forums here:
"

Lol or simply download CSC file from a region different from your country e.g if in US download and flash an european CSC file via odin."
The snapdragon chip is locked only in the US per that post. I seem to remember something about a major security issue found in those chips.

I found this url on changing the csc,but it erases the config.
Maybe there is another method that does not do that such as the one mentioned above.
https://www.**********.com/how-to-change-csc-in-samsung-galaxy-phones/
Has anyone successfully flashed any combination firmware? I found this at halabtech, haven't tried to flash it. I thought I seen a bootloader unlock & root for ASH6 firmware I don't think it lets you downgrade though once you have the latest ASK1 firmware. I tried installing this one as well "https://support.halabtech.com/index.php?a=downloads&b=file&id=206734" the only part it failed on was on the boot.img.lz4 everything else flashed successfully. I hope this helps get a start to troubleshooting.
(ASH6 FIRMWARE) haven't tested yet. for A505U1 variant only!
https://support.halabtech.com/index.php?a=downloads&b=file&id=165842
Correction it seems that this is not a snapdragon chip.
I was able to look at the CSC by booting into safe mode and dialing the special number which includes the IMEI #.
They seemed to be all cscs in the US which is why they called it a "US version"
There are files that could be changed with the csc in them , but I don't know what the effect that would have. (maybe bad)
It seems that in the US version there is no OEM unlock option to change in the developer settings.
Also I have not found source code yet for this particular model. (SM-A505U1)
I tried all the root apk out there like kingo-root etc. None of them would root it.
It seems that to change the CSC, you need root access or an unlocked bootloader.
So that method will not work. It seems that unless samsung releases an upgrade that allows you to unlock the bootloader then we will have to wait. That is until
a new exploit is found, and released say via kingo-root etc.
I'm really dying waiting for opportunity to root this phone and make this phone runs so smooth
Here is one URl that provides a schematic for a related phone.
https://www.mobilerdx.com/2020/01/d...0-a505f-service-manual-schematic-diagram.html
Is the boot loader stored inside the processor chip or on another one?

It's just a click bait article.
If you read it carefully, they're assuming there is already a BL unlock for the A505U variants, which doesn't exist at the moment.
I just got notification of an upgrade. I was hoping that the new version would have the oem unlock feature.
I had automatic upgrade turned off nad automatic download on. I was looking at the message, and it automatically scheduled the upgrade without my permission. So I ran the upgrade. It did not add the oem_unlock feature. Maybe next time. Hint! Hint!

I got notice of an upgrade today. I had it set to autodownload. It said that after the upgrade was applied that I could not downgrade. Also it said the I had only 3 chances. Last time it upgraded without my permission. So I turned of the autodownload in the settings.
If I knew the new version would enable an unlocking feature, then I, of course, would upgrade.
I found a trick to the no Unlock OEM option that worked so well I didnt believe it the first time. But my bootloader is unlocked and remains unlocked.
It seems that if you specify automatic download it will upgrade it even if you turn that off.
This latest upgrade still does not have the oem unlock feature. I made sure that my automatic download is turned off.
Automatic download also means automatic install. It seems to download the upgrade into a region of the file system which only root can read.

That method did not work for me. I tried it again and it did not work.
"Samsung allows unlocking the bootloader on the international versions of their phones. But on the Samsung Galaxy S8, Samsung Galaxy S9, and Samsung Galaxy Note 8, the ‘OEM unlocking’ option only becomes available after 7 days of activating the device and adding a Samsung or Google account to the device. If you would rather not wait 7 days or if even after 7 days the button is still missing, XDA Senior Member altai1963 has posted instructions about how to fix the missing ‘OEM unlock’ button on "
Perhaps it requires a samsung account. I do not have one on my phone. Incidentally I noticed that all my contacts had been uploaded to google. I would never have knowingly done that. I had to export my contacts to a file, delete all my contacts making sure then that google was not being used, and then import my contacts from the file that I had saved them to. I was worried that I would lose all my contacts, but fortunately that did not happen. It would probably be good to verify that the file exists and notate it location using a file system browser.

I added my samsung account, and tried it. It did not work. I had google and samsung logins provisioned in the phone.
So I guess that I am back waiting for the next exploit which might be a while if bonuses are paid for finding them.

He's either bsing you or trolling or has a different variant.. the "trick" they use has been around a while now but only works on models that are actually unlockable.. the USA variants are NOT unlockable from the start so any tricks will not work.. simple as that.. this has been discussed for years and everywhere on xda as well as many discussions about this specific model.. if u want bl unlock purchase an unlockable variant..
Ppl seem to get confused cuz some devices in USA are exynos models so they think they can bl unlock them but this is not the case.. just bcuz a device is exynos doesn't make it unlockable.

I did some research before I bought it. I also bought it because I could use it on multiple carriers.
The rooted ones that I saw must have been nonUS versions. What a waste of money. I only bought it because I wanted to root it and put a custom rom on it. I did not want to wait for a linux phone and truly 5g phones are coming out now.
