Change SD Memory internal storage

Hello everyone, you see I bought an SD 32GB
I want to know if there is a way to use as a primary this card and not the internal memory of the phone, not only want to save the photos, videos, music and that's in the options it brings to change the storage location, what I want is practically unusable leave 5 or 6GB approximate giving the 8GB internal that has to be used, perhaps unusable is not the right word because it sounds like that is damaged or something, but it is not the case
Practically what I want is that everything, absolutely all the information found in the internal memory, change to SD and automatically this as the main stay, to save all kinds of things
I want to split if the SD memory is possible 15/15 or 20/10 GB, for use as internal memory and SD card, so that when you look in the phone information displayed instead of 6GB, this amount as internal memory
Having explained this I think should understand why use the word "useless" because practically 6GB memory brings the phone would no longer be used, everything would be stored in memory SD
I have a Redmi 1S
I'm using the latest Rom V7 China
I think you get to read something like this was possible in Redmi 1, but if I remember one of the cons of doing so was that he should spend a minute after ignition to take effect, which means that if for any reason you should save or something came in that moment the phone memory usage would be 6GB, and not the SD, which I want to avoid at all times if possible in the Redmi 1S

cm 13 has the option to make external sd to be used as internal sd and the rom will format your external sd so make backup if need to, and 2 partition is possible android mm will automatically mount your second partition as removable storage aka external storage. you may need a very fast sdcard. dont blame me if it not work for you since i dont try it myself

I have a "Samsung 32GB EVO Class 10 Micro SDHC up to 48MB/s " SD Card you think that this is good memory?
automatically cm13 make all this for me? I don't have to do nothing? Only selecting the option to use the sd card memory as internal storage and the true internal storage not be available?

if you want 2 partitions you better partition the sdcard 1st on your pc, its up to you which size. the rom will ask what you want u want to do with the sdcard (it will mount 2 partition if u have 2 partitions). since i dont try it myself you better heading to cm13 thread

Marshmallow still allows moving Apps to an SD Card.

I was surprised to find out although there is no option with Marshmallow to create adoptable storage on the G3 using the stock ROM, that you're still allowed to move apps to the SD Card. Is this just a feature of the G3 or can you do this with any phone.? The main reason, at least for me, to use adoptable storage is to be able to move apps to external storage. However since you're able to do this, at least on the G3, by keeping the card as external storage this still gives you the ability to read the card on other devices and is a much better option..

Adoptable Storage HTC 10

So I have read that there is a way to do mixed adoptable storage on Marshmallow. Allowing part of the SD card to be internal and part to be external memory. I followed the steps to obtain this through using ADB but allows get sd corrupt error or does not recognize this format. In either instance I have to format the card and start over.
Has anyone come across this issue and have a solution?
Or does anyone have a suggestion?
I'm trying to use my Sandisk Ultra 128GB in my US unlocked HTC 10 running Venom ROM.

I wouldn't even use Adoptable Storage. There really isn't much benefit to using it in my opinion. Also now you have an SD card that is useless outside the phone. Reformat the sd card.

I know it's pretty useless but I could use a little more storage for all my apps.
I heard you can do a 2nd partition on the SD card and use that partition only as adoptable storage. The rest of the SD would be used like a normal SD card.

I know it's pretty useless but I could use a little more storage for all my apps.

Its useful if you happen to drop your phone with all your naked pics. They cant take out the sd card and access it from their computer.

If I am not mistaken that causes more issues then not. The way the adaptable storage is coded it was made to use the whole sdcard. So trying to partition it doesn't really work well.

How do you change Back from one to the other?
How do you convert a "existing" removeable storage SDXC card (with data) to be a "internal" storage card? Or vice versa? I'm looking to change my Samsung Evo 256GB (class 10, U3) card which I initially made "removeable", to become "Internal". I'm not looking for lectures on the "pro and cons", just a step by step process to do this. FYI - I wanted the larger and faster memory for 4K videos. I have no problem with this being a dedicated card to my HTC 10 once completed. Please note that as a removeable storage card, I'm finding duplicate files (internal/removeable). What's up with that?

You will have to clear it out as it will format the sdcard. No way around it and it will have to be set as non removable.

So in either scenario, you'll have to copy the "entire" content of your SDXC card to your computer (or other storage device), and then recopy back once the card is reformatted as the other storage (internal/removeable)? Isn't there a tool or something to help do this? I already have 56GB on the card. Isn't there folders that should only be on "internal" and not on "removeable" (in copying entire card)?

Pretty much. Also to be honest it really doesnt make much of a diff. This option was made for devices with low internal memory. You know devices with like 4gb of internal memory where there is no room for apps at all.
A waste of a feature on any real flagship device. This is why most OEM removed or hid the option.

Ok, so are you also saying that I'll not see any performance difference with the Samsung Evo 256GB card (R-95MBS/W-90MBS). I got it specifically to "better" handle 4K videos. I would expect a performance boost having this as "internal" memory. No?

on problem in marshmallow is you cannot move a lot of apps to sd card. switching to adopted storage allows them to use the space. over the years ive started using a lot of apps, that over the years got very large in size. 32gb is barely holding in there now and adopted storage will allow more when without it I would have to start deleting apps.
I didn't run into any adb issues or flashing issues when using it, but at the moment I have it set to removable since I have really nothing new to add.

No you wont see an increase at all and maybe a bit of a decrease due to the different ways OEMs added SDcard support (remember google removed support from the OS so all SDcard code for mounting and using are all on the OEM.)

Well that is because of the way android mounts the sdcard. Putting apps on the sdcard is just asking for trouble. I have never had more then a 32gb device for the last few years and never used more then half. I also dont keep anything I dont need on my device. Apps are less then 10.

Installed Apps Capacity Confusion

I recently purchased new Moto G5 it has a feature of formatting SD card as an internal memory, does it mean i can install more number of apps if i upgrade to Say 128gb sd card & format it as internal memory?? Does it allows me to do that I'm kinda newbie to this feature :silly: if it's true then is there any limit to number of apps i can install on my phone this way?

Yes and no , you can use as internal and its like having 128gb phone , however unless u have a class 10 evo it will be slow as anything

format sd card to internal memory

Hello forum,
i´m about to purchase a xiaomi mi a2 lite 64gb 4gb ram and i am concerned that these 64gb of storage wont be enough for me.
i like the idea of Android one and the benefits of it (sleek, needs not much space and so on ... ) and i want to use the stock android.
i already found out that you can format an sd card as internal storage but can anyone of you tell me if you can use this normally with the same speed as the internal storage?
have you made any experiences with an sd card formated as internal storage ?
If yes, which sd card functions properly as an internal storage?

External SD cards are always worlds slower compared to the internal storage. I really wouldn't suggest to use the card as adoptable storage, better use it as portable storage. Use the internal storage for apps+their data und store pictures, movies, Spotify and such stuff on the external SD.
If your phone breaks, you can't read SD cards formatted as adoptable storage with any other device, because it's encrypted and bound to that unique device.
