LS992 Sucks - Sprint LG G5 Questions & Answers

This is the creepiest device I have ever had, I can't even unlock its bootloader neither I can root it sucks.... And biggest problem is not getting unlock after updating and who has unlocked they can't have 4g..... Totally crap No custom roms even my older redmi 2 has many custom roms and I can easily root it

ok so.. you are writing this post here cuz u want...?

They seem to work great on Sprint, given that's the intended carrier for this specific model.. yeah, no options for custom ROMs, but that only sucks for people that want to do that.

Only the H830, H850, and RS988 have custom roms. Any other variant has nothing

While unfortunate, it certainly doesn't make the phone suck. Would I like to be able to load a custom ROM? Yes, but I knew going in that was not likely to be possible.

[Q] which Roms should I be using? rogers note 2

Which roms should I be using as it appears there is no rogers specific t0lte Roms. There is an att and a T-Mobile one (as well as a generic t0lte) I don't want to screw something up and I've found various answers on google(saying different things) and I trust the people on here so I figured I'd just ask here. (Sorry if this had been asked before search wasn't working)

most of the time the ATT version (i317) should work, but if you just want to be absolutely safe check whether it supports Rogers (i317M).

Thank you very much.
Easy: all t0lte GSM/WCDMA/LTE ROMs are interchangeable. Modems and bootloaders are not.
I don't think CDMA (e.g. Verizon and Sprint) ROMs work out of the box but I haven't bothered checking.

Are modems not included in roms? And I didn't know bootloaders were changeable? (I may misunderstand what a bootloader is so feel free to explain)

Maybe: When in doubt, check the ROM recovery zip installer or Odin tar archive.

They're upgradeable, but that's not something you would be playing with most of the time, if ever. You wouldn't normally encounter this on recovery flashable ROMs, maybe on Odin packages. Look up aboot, tz, param.img and SBL for more details.

Ghost Town Development?

How come it's taking awhile for devs to get development going? No AOSP Rom whatsoever unlike the g2.....

With locked bootloader and no 100% working custom recovery is pretty hard, don't you think

Bootloader isn't unlocked for most variants.
Sprint doesn't even have root yet
Once LG unlocks the bootloaders for all variants we'll be good to go.
The T-Mo shipped unlocked for some reason so that one has a few ROMs and a working TWRP, that's a start.

They aren't going to unlock it for all variants. There will be many variants where the carrier will not allow it, just like HTCDev does. You're dreaming if you expect VZW/AT&T variants will be unlockable via LG.
These type of threads just breed conflict, since you believe there is lack in development...why don’t you take up development and provide to the Community vice creating threads like this...
.
You might learn something and at the same time provide to the XDA Community.

I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure at this moment only the U.S T-Mobile G3 has an unlocked bootloader. Maybe the bootloader will be unlocked for other versions and ROMs will be developed, but it doesn't look promising at this point.

All Snapdragon (US) Galaxy S8/8+ have locked bootloaders meaning no custom roms. However, root is available with some draw backs.

I can't think of any reason why you wouldn't be able to.

Always the possibility of issues. As for root with stock ROM, yes you can do that.

Which S9 Version to avoid when considering TWRP/ROMS ?

Hi there !
I am a veteran ROM installer Thinking of buying used samsungs for the family.
I am looking at used S9's, but wanted to ask, which versions of the S9 to avoid when considering simple flashing, bootloader unlocking, and TWRP installations ?
That way I don't burn money for nothing.
Thanks !

Get international Samsung S9 only one that comes with the option to oem unlock in developer settings to be able to flash twrp magisk and custom roms or GSI (but you wouldn't need to do that thiers plenty of custom roms for the S9)
([emoji88]Omni Rom[emoji88])
Gotcha, International Version. But how do I recognize what is International ? Is there a special device code that I need to look for on the back of the device, or on the box ?

It ends with F or simply Google S9 international so you get the model number

960F !
Great, so that would be the one to try and find.

Oh no. Eek.
I've just bought a g960F/DS version. Am I going to have problems trying to do the things you said?
I think I can take the phone back tomorrow if so. I saw the "F" and thought I was good to go, but is "F/DS" a weird version that will only have limited support for ROMs etc?
Thanks in advance.

I believe that's a duo sim international device but yeah if it's not international there's no oem unlock no oem unlock basically means your stock on stock....

Thanks.
The thing is though, what had made me go ahead was that I'd read somewhere that Lineage supported g960F/D.
I'll try and find the link but, in case you're reading this now, does that sound impossible?
EDIT: https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/starlte/
Supported models
SM-G960F
SM-G960F/DS
SM-G960N

I've flashed roms many times before but not for ages and I've forgotten what oem unlock even means.
Does the fact that Lineageos is supported mean that in fact there IS oem unlock? And does that mean that I can use most other roms too and basically have the same flexibility that I would have if I had a g960F?
There's this too, PoochyX: Putting LineageOS on a Samsung Galaxy S9 (SM-G960F/DS)
