Mi Max 3 Chinese version questions - Xiaomi Mi Max 3 Questions & Answers

Hello everyone, got a few questions regarding the Mi Max 3.
So I want to buy this phone, but the only problem is that it ships with the Chinese rom, is it possible to flash the Xiaomi.eu ROM on it? And what is actually the difference between the Chinese and global version? Just the software? Or also LTE bands? And does the Chinese version have Anti roll back on? Because if I can't unlock the bootloader on the Chinese version I won't buy it.

Xiaomi.eu is possible to install but you Have to unlock the Bootloader. Not a joke duration for unlock is 360 hours after first login to unlock. Have my Mi max 3 since thursday and Have to wait 360h for unlock.
Lte is no difference between global Rom or Chinese Rom.
There is no global Rom Till yet. All "global" Rom Devices are not official and fake Rom.
And in Chinese Rom there is no playstore. But you can install playstore with a simple apk.

Overall I love this phone, the chinease rom is not that bad, but I will install Eu or global if it comes out.

Ive install yesterday the MIUI 10 beta Chinese Version. With out unlock Bootloader. Very smooth.
The only Bad Thing is that Google Assistent is in english and not German for me.
So have to wait for unlock than install xiaomi.eu rom

Look Here Xda forum. There you can download the MIUI 10 RECOVERY zip. After Download go to Updater App and choose the Recovery zip. So you can go from China stable to China dev. You only need the Bootloader unlock for Custom Rom or from China stable to global stable (or vice vera)
Global stable is not published yet.
Attention it will delete all your personal data. Backup all personal data before.

I don't think this is necessarily true. I got my Mi Max 3 yesterday, and I got permission to unlock it the same day. But I've been a member of the MIUI forum for more than 5 years, so maybe that plays into it.

It is true for the most users. Why there Are so many users who Look for Bypass the 360h from xiaomi. Last year it was 72h.
And yes there Are a few User who have no wait time.
But to be clear:
You can unlock your Bootloader? Or your Account can be bind in the developer Option?!
The permission to unlock i have also since last year but When you Start the Tool to unlock it said please wait 360hours.

Thanks,
tried it when I got the phone (friday) but then I got an error telling me I was not allowed.
This time it worked !

In my opinion MIUI 10 is smoother and the UI is beautiful. But I think battery drains faster than in MIUI 9.6 stable. I wait for the unlock and then switch to xiaomi.eu MIUI 10.

Yes, I was able to unlock my bootloader right away so I could flash MIUI 10 via fastboot.

Ok I Flash via recovery without Bootloader unlock. Have to wait till next week.

360? It used to be 36 or 72 hours. Now i have to wait 15 DAYS?

Yes you have to wait. The bypass tutorials are patched by xiaomi.
So there is no other way to unlock earlier. Some users can unlock immediately but most of them have to wait 360h

What about the quaranty if you unlock bootloader and install EU room?

You can easily relock after install original Rom from xiaomi. Not as Samsung with Knox

Does unlocking the bootloader lead to safetynet fail?
And can you relock the bootloader without bricking the device? There are some reports that re-locking the bootloader after installing a global rom will brick the china version.

I had to wait 720hrs, yes 30 days. Bored waiting for a global rom so I bought a P20 Pro, will keep the mm3 with unlocked BL and TWRP installed ready for them custom roms.
No rush for me

Flashing to global ROM

I live in the US and really want to buy a new Mi Mix 2 but from what I've been reading I will have to flash it myself to the global ROM since all of these phones currently come with the Chinese version. Some questions for the experts:
(1) When is the global ROM coming out?
(2) All I really want is Google app store, Gmail, etc on my phone. If I install those then what are the benefits of flashing to global ROM?
(3) Will all apps in Google play store work with Chinese ROM?
(4) I am a total noob and have never flashed anything in my life. How difficult is this? Are there step-by-steps instructions for the Mi Mix 2? My biggest fear is bricking my phone and throwing away over $600 for something I didn't even get to use.
Thanks in advance for you advice and comments.
These are good questions
I wondering the same thing about question #1 so I can flash. Even with "english" set to mine there is still a lot of Chinese I'm running into. Just gonna wait for the global ROM.
I've just checked miui official site, and the latest both stable and developer version stock roms for Mix 2 have been released there. Simply download it and flash it through official flashing tool. Go check it! Hope can help you. I'm working on xposed for my mix 2 now
Is there a safe way to flash that without being unlocked. I am waiting for Xiaomi to allow me to unlock.
So to go from China to Global normally what you have to do is install from Fastboot, so Unlocked Bootloader is a must. ThereĀ“s no news yet about Global ROM comingf out yet but I suspect that in a few weeks time it will be coming out, hopefully. Still no official news yet. With Chinese ROM you can install GApps through Mi store, there's an app which installs it, that should work for you. If you need help please let me know. Benefits from flashing GLOBAL is that GApps come preinstalled, theres not so much bloatware (MIUI CHINA has quite a lot, but you can still uninstall most of it easily, which I strongly suggest. Flashing an official rom isn't hard, but there's still people like me that can help you in the process for some cash and that can make sure that you don't mess up xd and make sure you understand what you are doing so you learn what you've done, at least that's my way of doing it
Re #1 its quite simple and i just did.
1. Unlock bootloader
2. Flash TWRP
3. Flash EU MIUI rom (based on chinese developer rom but comes with google)
4. Done
Did you wait 72 hours before you could unlock. I am waiting for that timer to get to 0, lol

Hey I've been waiting to purchase the phone until I know I will be able to install a fresh rom without all the bloatware. This EU MIUI you're talking about, could this be the infamous "Global Rom" that I've been hearing about?
Any screenshots of this EU MIUI that will show the lack of bloatware so I can compare?

Not quite - they are two different things. The Global ROM usually refers to an official xiaomi ROM developed for outside China. It has Gapps built in and less Chinese software. If you go to en.miui.com and look at roms for various devices you will see many have both China and Global Roms. There isn't a global one yet for Mix 2.
The EU Roms are released by a team at xiaomi.eu and are based on xiaomi Roms but have some improvements, Gapps built in and many more languages.
Then in addition there are stable and developer options for each one.
I have always been satisfied with the EU Rom on previous xiaomi phones.

U tried ? I also have same question
Not yet.. Waiting for someone who will provide a way.
Somewhere in youtube i saw to update to beta rom(without unlocking bootloader) you need to be on a developer rom(you can download developer rom from "en.miui.com") ,which is not yet available for redmi note 5 pro.
Take a look on this article
https://www.xda-developers.com/install-miui-10-xiaomi-redmi-note-5-pro-xiaomi-mi-mix-2-xiaomi-mi-6/
They haven't mentioned about locked bootloader.. that method should work for locked bootloader mobile.
Since my mobile is new I am not interested to try beta ROM.

TWRP will never work with locked bootloader. It's very common term that is why you might not seen lock unlock thing. If only one developer rom available for RN5P then also could be do this without unlocking BL.

Hello Mate,
You are in the opposite direction.
Kingroot and other such rooting apps only root old devices ( by old I mean devices launched literally 2-3 years back ). Technology has changed now. And also the Android Security and OS integration has changed with time.
New devices now have to have a custom recovery first and then you can root the device through that custom recovery with Magisk OR SuperSU. And to install the custom recovery, you need to unlock the bootloader.
So going step wise in ascending order it is --> Unlock Bootloader --> Install Custom Recovery --> Flash Root App ( Magisk / SuperSU ) --> Enjoy

Point # 1 : Realme phones do not have a fastboot recovery installed. So there is literally no way to unlock the bootloader without entering fastboot recovery mode ( correct me if I am wrong ).
Point # 2 : Even if there is any way to unlock the bootloader, there is no Official support from Realme for unlocking the bootloader which means you lose the warranty the moment you unlock your bootloader.
Point # 3 : Realme is currently working on their own brand new UI different than Color OS which will take at least Q3 of 2019 so don't expect any Official support.
What we can do :
ALL the Realme users should put up a request to Realme for providing Official bootloader unlocking support just like Xiaomi so that we can all enjoy some cool custom roms or maybe tweak the Color OS as we want. The more the requests the more Realme will listen to us.
A dedicated Realme Official Community Forum is going to start on October 31 where we all can put our requests for providing bootloader unlocking support as well as for changes and bug fixes in the current Color OS. I guess the request for changes in the Color OS UI will only happen in the new Realme UI as they will take suggestions from us that what we want and then apply that in the new Realme UI which they will provide later. Also we know that Realme will still be related to Oppo for at least 1-2 years more so don't expect a BIG difference like a nearly Stock Android type of Realme UI. The new Realme UI will definitely be somewhat like a copy of iOS just like the ColorOS of Oppo and Funtouch of Vivo.
( FYI : Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus are all brother companies who are under 1 single Parent company which is BBK Electronics and even if Realme has now seperated from Oppo, I assume it is still under BBK Electronics, so all these 4 smartphones companies are actually just 1 single company operating with different sub brand name.

Yes.
It is a clickbait.
Today at the end of 2018 the most popular, trusted, secure and REAL Android development forum is XDA and developers around the globe put forth their Custom ROM development only on XDA.
It is useless, also not safe to trust any private website for any kind of custom Rom. XDA is the only and ultimate place to search for and trust on any custom ROM :fingers-crossed:

Bro cudnt find this post on madhav sir's twitter page
Hi Guys,
I have an issue with my realme 2 pro (Color OS 5.2), When i make any application like Mcafee Mobile security as a device manager, it keep giving yellow floating notification for system security risk, I have tried multiple things but it doesn't go. Interestingly, i have other apps also set as DEvice manager but the notification only comes when i make McAfee Antivirus as Device manager. I heard that its a known issue with ColorOS, can anybody suggest any fix for this or facing the same issue?

After some searching, it may not work (you can apparently only relock on China if that was your original ROM), so you might have to use the phone with a unlocked BL.
Basically, don't attempt to flash Global if you want to keep your warranty.

Switch from Global to China/India
Hi there,
I have an EU Global Redmi Note 8 that I bought in UK. I noticed, however, that the call recording function has been pulled from EU devices due to some new nonsense policies so I'd like to switch if possible. I'm just wondering how I could switch from EU to China/India rom, and if possible, lock the bootloader.
Ultimately, I'm happy to switch even if I cannot re-lock, but I'd like to know how even so.
Many thanks

To switch from EU version to global/Indian use mi flash and flash fastboot rom. I recommend flashing indian rom as it has stock mi dialer which has call recording as global rom has google dialer with no call recording feature.

I recommend you don't lock the bootloader if in different region rom as it might cause brick....select "clean_all" in mi flash and NOT "clean_all_and_lock".

Relock bootloader after flashing ROM Indonesia

SOLVED !!!: My Redmi Note 8 Pro is the Global Version, can I block the bootloader without brick risk after flashing the Indonesian ROM?
Some moderator could support me to move the thread to Redmi Note 8 Pro. Thank you
Edit: Thanks @strongst
I confirm that it is possible to close the bootloader after flashing the Indonesian ROM on a Redmi Note 8 Pro Global. To do this, use the MiFlash application and check the "clean all" option. Do not check the option "clean everything and block" in case there is a problem during or after the fhashing.
After I could confirm the ROM was multilingual and that everything worked fine (wifi, data, bluetooth, nfc, spearkers, etc.), I closed the bootloader, put my device in "fastboot" mode and executed the command "fastboot oem lock ".
Before closing the bootloader I didn't see the Netflix application in the Google Play store, after closing the bootloader there was no problem.

They would really be the same steps for any Xiaomi team, so you just need to search the threads of some model. The only variant would be the ROM you need to download, which in this case It would be for the Redmi Note 8 Pro.
Follow the steps in the following link, everything is detailed, it will be good if you are a beginner. regards

Glad it worked for you! :good:
You probably were on a Global flavor of the phone aside from it having a Global Rom.
However I want to stress for others who may be reading this, that if I am not mistaking, based on posts I have read, if your device HW is Chinese flavor, it is absolutely not recommended to relock bootloader after flashing anything as it WILL result into bricking your device.
Edit:
That's exactly what's being said on the tutorial you provided above and that's where I had read about it actually
Here is the part in question.
Edit 2:
DO NOT RE-Lock the Bootloader if you change from China ROM to Global ROM in China phone. Re-Locking will BRICK your phone. Select only "Clean All" option before flashing.

It is right. I also add that you should not lock bootloader, if you have a Global HW and install a Chinese ROM, although hey, I don't know who would do that.

you have to lock in fastboot mode and make sure your MIUI version is the same as the device. for example your device base version is India and you have to flash it with the Indian version to lock the bootloader and make sure it's correct so it doesn't happen hard brick
