TA-1054 with Android One ROM and strange build number (00WW_2_230) - Nokia 6.1 (2018) Questions & Answers

Hi all,
after trying to post this on the Nokia Community forum and my topic did not appear after a day I have decided to make a thread here. I have bought myself a Nokia 6.1 which happened to be a TA-1054 which is fine by me. However, as far as I have read the topics here and in the Community forum this model (TA-1054) is not a part of the Android One program. Nevertheless, when booting up my phone there is an Android One animation showing before the Nokia logo. The device came with Android Oreo 8.1.0 on the 1 May 2018 security patch and as most people I am unable to update it to a newer version no matter what I try. I have tried VPN to USA, with and without SIM card, factory reset but no luck at all. One thing I find particularly interesting is my build number. In some of the threads I read that depending on your build number some people experience issues with Wi-Fi, some have managed to update their phone because they had a specific build number before the update and some have not received an update because their build number was different. (Feel free to correct me if I am wrong :/ ) So, I have looked up my build number which appears to be 00WW_2_230. I have tried to google it and after seeing that nothing really pops up my curiosity grew up exponentially. Now I am wondering if there are folks out there in the same boat like me, with the same build number or people that have bought the TA-1054 model and they see the Android One animation also.
Have a nice day to you all and enjoy your new Nokias!

It's a custom ROM for Chinese 6.1

Okay, this might be the answer. Still wasn't the custom ROM supposed to be running Nougat rather than Oreo? Also if the TA-1054 running this custom ROM wasn't supposed to be part of the Android One program, how would you explain the fact that the Android One animation appears when the device boots up? The only thing I can think of is pure laziness. Now if they are so lazy that they did not bother to get rid of the Android One animation, what is the point of having a whole "custom" ROM which is 99.9% similar to the global one except the fact that the device cannot receive any updates? :/

early versions were on nouget new ones are a oreo custom global rom

Great, and if one does not want to unlock their bootloader and install non-Chinese ROM they will get an update when? When the Chinese government says that it's okay to update the devices?

I also have a ta 1054, I bought it with a multilanguage version and it was never updated. Then unlock the bootloader and install the official Chinese version. Now my phone receives monthly updates from Android 7.1 to Android 8.1 with security patch July 2018 and it is very likely that Android p arrives. It is not Android one version, only shows Nokia when starting.

Okay, this one I do not get. How is the official Chinese version you are talking about any different from the custom ROM that comes with the device. And why is there a need for a custom ROM when there is an official Chinese ROM for the same device? Did the multi language version you mentioned have the Android One animation at start up?

No the Chinese official ROM is not android one

I get the fact that it's a port. It's a port made by who? Why making a port of Android One and not providing any updates? Why making a port when there is an official Chinese firmware which as far as I understood is receiving OTA updates? And the strangest thing is why these devices are shipped with an Android One port installed rather than the official firmware?

Because Chinese variant price is cheaper than global, global version still not available in many countries. so some Chinese distributor port official global android one for Chinese variant....Chinese and global partition is separate.that why i cant flash android one firmware on my TA1054

5.1.1 to 7.1.1, but not 5.1.1 to 6?

OK, I read in another thread about someone who went from 5.1.1 to EmotionOS 7.1.1. I didnt think that was possible, but since they did it, I tired it, and it works perfectly.
For the heck of it, I tried flashing a couple MM ROMS, with no luck, just bootloops.
So, I know I am missing something here, but why can I go from 5.1.1 to 7.1.1, but not 5.1.1 to 6?
Any thoughts?
TIA

If you search, there are other threads that describe how to go from 5.1 to 6.01. But for a MM Rom you have to stick to the Hsbadr Rom 5/24/2016 and back that work with baseband BPA1. All other marshmallow roms after 5/24/2016, you have to upgrade the bootloader from a LP baseband (BPA1) with a Marshmallow bootloader to MM baseband (CPD3, i think)) and MM bootloader. Which is the 5.1.1 to 6.01 guides. If you go to Hsbadr MM 13.1 Rom, on the fist page (OP) he has links to the threads on how to upgrade from LP to MM.
No what I am curious about is what thread are you talking about , because I did not think 7.1.1 worked with basband BPA1...

To my knowledge your mistaken . from 5.1.1 it is not possible to go to nougat without first going to 6.0.1 . the boot loader changes between marshmallow and lollipop so it would have to be unlocked again. I mean you could flash a nougat ROM on a 5.1.1 boot loader but none of your radio functions would work like WiFi and bluetooth

Mi Note 2 Global Rom - Official Release - Stable & Dev (leak) Links

Mi Note 2 - Global Rom Release
Okay so MIUI have finally released the global version of MIUI for Mi Note 2.
Remember this ROM works on all versions of the Mi Note 2, not just the Global Edition but also the CN edition with limited bands just don't go thinking it will unlock those extra bands.
For the many of us on xiaomi.eu or mi-globe there are limited gains perhaps but let's not forget what options we have now.
Full Official Multi-Language Rom can be used with locked bootloader. This means there is no root but:
We can pass Android SafetyNet - Android Pay Compatibility, Various Banking Apps
Multi-Language Rom that supports OTA updates
Pre-Installed Google Apps
Much less Chinese Bloatware
Probably a few other things I'm forgetting.
Now for the download links:
These are direct from Xiaomi so note their speed isn't always the best but I'd rather give you you direct from them so you know there's no tampering.

NB. Latest Dev version (Global Beta version 7.3.2 has been suspended for Mi Note 2 this week so this is the most recent.) You will be notified by Updater when a new release is available.
Recovery versions (i.e zip) can be flashed via TWRP (though won't be able to flash OTA updates this way) or for full MIUI guide see here
One final note, don't go discussing the global dev rom on the MIUI forums until they make it available themselves. No good will come of it.
And on the somewhat optimistic side usually Xiaomi release source code 3-4 months after global rom release. Once that source code is released hopefully we can see some real dev action for custom roms.
Thank you my firend.
I tried there is no problem.
I've purchased the Mi Note 2 from Banggood today, keen to use the Global Rom, as I'm sure it'll be better than what I get!

There's probably a more complete guide on the MIUI forums.
The short of it is you need to apply to unlock the bootloader of your device (it may already come unlocked - I don't know if Banggood install custom vendor ROMs).
After that personally I'd install TWRP since I'd want it rooted anyway.
Once you've done that you flash the zip with TWRP (there are now newer versions than listed here - check MIUI forums)
Flash Magisk or SuperSU or something if you want root and that's it.

Thanks. Do I need to unlock Bootloader and root? I see it does say you can install without unlocking the bootloader. I'm not bothered about root.

You don't need to root but it's a bit of a gamble with the bootloader.
It's possible to do it with it locked but if anything goes wrong then you're in an awkward position. You can use the built-in recovery and rename to update.zip method.
Mi Note 2
I got the Global Mi Note 2 from china, I am so glad it came with a locked bootloader and the Global ROM pre-installed. Unfortunately, you just *CANNOT* install the official ROM w/o unlocking the bootloader, just an FYI. Once you flash the official ROM, it will relock the bootloader. But I need security on my device so I need the bootloader to be locked but luckily it came pre-installed with the Global ROM so I am pleased needless to say..

If you're not getting OTA updates it's most likely you have a vendor ROM rather than official. Download and flash an official update (there are plenty of guides on the MIUI forums if you're unsure how), after that you'll be good to get OTA updates.
8.2.6.0 is the latest stable I believe - It's available as a fastboot rom but for whatever reason not a flashable zip. Alternatively you can update to Miui 8.2.5.0 with a recovery update. That way you can confirm OTA updates and not have to lose any saved apps. Both links are for global version.

Do you have the Global Version of the phone, 8.2.6.0 is only available for the Chinese version of the phone and not the Global. I don't think that is a vendor rom, the phone came in a factory sealed box and I have the update app/option on it. Some people were advising to change the region to India or something else from USA and the new versions will come, bit I haven't tried yet.
hi there,

why it doesn't get any ota updates? my both imei's are altered for some reasons,

Both the download links are for the global stable rom.
8.2.6.0 is the latest stable release for both Chinese and Global rom. Both roms work (with the correct band support) on all editions of the phone.
The Chinese rom has CN in the code name, i.e. MADCNDL, whereas the global has MI i.e MADMIDL, in the same place. If you check About in Settings you'll see the code next to the Miui version info. You'll see the same codes in the download links.
The vendor roms will still usually include the update app and often resellers will re-seal boxes. Not to say you definitely have one but that doesn't preclude it.
Changing region might help, otherwise the links are above.
I don't see any download link for Mi Note 2 8.2.6.0..I did an OTA update to 8.2.5.0 ..not willing to flash any rom unless it is an OTA or gets through system update right now..
I did luck out with the vendor though, i asked a bunch of questions before I ordered it.currently the only way to verify if you have a global version of the phone is by the lettering on the box..unfortunately..

For whatever reason 8.2.6.0 is only shipping as a fastboot rom at the moment. No idea why but I doubt there's any major features you're missing out on.

Courtesy of this page.
It's a horrible way to update though, fine for a clean install.
The naming convention is a mess with the overlap of global rom and global edition being easily confused, notably on the vendors part around launch but it does seem they've sorted themselves out now.
The box being the only distinction really doesn't help matters.

Does 6.1 support Treble?

[UPDATE]
Confirmed to support Treble by "ali ba".
Hello all,
I've read lots of conflicting news about the support status of Project Treble in Nokia 6 (2018),
Can anyone confirm the support or the lack of it once and for all?
Thanks.
Correct me if I'm wrong but every device launching with 8.0 has to support Treble does it not? I guess the problem lies with whether Nokia will provide the ability to unlock the bootloader. I'm not sure if it makes a difference that this is an Android One device in this respect.
Does anyone have an official firmware available for download? I have TA-1054, China version and it seems it has a custom firmware. Thank you.

You're absolutely right, the problem is the Chinese release was on Nougat, and nobody has yet ran the Treble flag test on the international version.. maybe because not so many hands got it yet... We'll wait..
According to the test app it does support Treble, but I'm not sure whether to trust it.
Came with an update out of the box and I didn't check the version before applying it (which would have made that clearer).

Thank you very much!!! finally some useful results, I think we can trust the app, but just to make sure, could you please follow the procedure described in this page.. more specifically the terminal flag test..

Nope, no news yet.
Can someone tell us the difference between all Nokia 6 2018 models please?
TA-1068
TA-1045
etc...
Is there a specific model for 'Worldwide' like Nexus/Pixel?
Is there a Europe version?
...
...
THANKS!
[Update]
Just noticed you actually did just that... Thanks.
I think this is an important topic that deserves it's own thread..
Would you care to start it?, also what models are sold in what markets?
That would be useful.
cheers.
Try to obtain the global firmware of TA-1054. I can provide you with the firmware.
I have two Nokia 6.1 devices. One is TA-1054 and the other is TA-1089. Both Global/International/Made in India version. I have the firmware files. But I doubt, you'll be able to flash them with the Stock recovery in your Chinese Variant. If you want the links, I'll provide you. And yes, Nokia 6.1 supports Treble. And I've recently flashed Android 11 GSI. Well, only issue was unlocking the boot loader to flash custom recovery. I never want to bootloader unlock any other Nokia phone anytime soon.
The TA-10xx naming determines the variant of the phone. The (4 + 64 GB) variant is TA-1089. The values change depending on the ram and storage size. Also newer models for the same phone we're released with Mediatek processors and Snapdragon for different markets. Just like Samsung does, sells the Exynos variant in Asia while selling the Snapdragon variant in US, UK, EUR, etc. Nokia also started doing this with their Nokia 5.1 and 5.3( if I recall correctly, not sure). So those phones have multiple variants. The TA-10XX naming scheme is quite similar to RM-xxx scheme followed by Nokia in the past, when Nokia was owned by Nokia and not HMD. In fact, their shift to TA-XXXX naming suggest that they belong to the family of Android/HMD owned Nokia and not the old Nokia. Even the 3310 (The beast) and 8110 4G have TA-XXXX product code instead of the RM-XXX. It's like a product code which can determine the RAM, Storage and Chipset as well as Region of the device.
So to flash Android R, TWRP or TWRP based custom recovery is required. Then flash any Android 10 Custom ROM with Treble support. Also flash dm no verify.zip with the ROM. Reboot to set up device. Don't add any Google account and password, etc. Then again boot into TWRP, changed to Image mode from zip mode in Install. Flash the system.img from Android 11 GSI.
Then reboot.

ROOT Your LG V30! and Custom ROMs FAQ

ROOT YOUR LG V3O!
Bootloader unlock, install TWRP, root any V30/V30+/V30S on the planet!
* WTF V30/V30+/V30S Bootloader Unlock, TWRP and Root INSTRUCTIONS
The WTF bootloader unlock, TWRP installation, root method (link above) works on EVERY V3O variant in existence -- EXCEPT for U.S. T-Mobile H932. Read the instructions in a web browser, not an app. Print out the instructions and read them thoroughly!
For U.S. T-Mobile H932, use this alternate method:
* U.S. T-Mobile H932 Bootloader Unlock, TWRP and Root INSTRUCTIONS
Print out the instructions and read them thoroughly!
____
When rooting your V30/V30+/V30S, you will TEMPORARILY downgrade to earlier stock firmware, unless you are already on that earlier firmware. After rooting, you should immediately upgrade back to at least most recent Oreo stock firmware via TWRP-flashable zips found in the forum. This is necessary to:
* have fixes/features on recent stock V30 updates -- like DTS 3D Surround Sound or better LG stock camera. These features/fixes were included in the latter Oreo update, with the last being most stable.
AND/OR
* install custom LOS-16 "Pie" ROMs. (ONLY upgrade to most recent Oreo firmware! Do NOT upgrade to LG stock Pie yet!) You need most recent LG Oreo as a foundation for LOS-16 custom ROMs to work right.
MORE INFORMATION:
IGNORE that V30 LOS-based ROMs are called "H930" ROMs.
They are "V30" ROMs. Do NOT try to flash stock H930* firmware over North American variants to run LOS-based "H930" ROMs!
Please ask any questions in those threads listed above.
POST #2:
FAQ ON AOSP/Lineage/LOS-16 & LOS 17.x CUSTOM ROMS
1) What's the deal? Why are V30 LOS-based ROMs called "H930" ROMs? Yet everyone says they work all other variants. Why not call them "V30" ROMs?
IGNORE that V30 LOS-based ROMs are called "H930" ROMs.
They are indeed "V30" ROMs. They are "Joan" (code name for LG V30) ROMs. Do NOT try to flash stock H930* firmware over North American variants to run LOS-based "H930" ROMs!
The "H930" label is sort of a "mistake" from the beginning which we can't go back and fix in the LOS tree. ("Mistake" isn't quite the right word but will do for now.)
* ALL LOS-16 based ROMs are compatible with ANY V30 variant, including T-Mobile H932.
* LOS-17 based ROMs are compatible with ANY V30 variant --EXCEPT for U.S. T-Mobile H932.
EDIT: As of October 2020, any LOS-based custom ROMS produced AFTER that are compatible with T-Mobile H932. Thanks to the efforts of @ShapeShifter499. To be safe, only install latest ROMs made well AFTER 2020.
See Question #4 below for more information about T-mobile H932 which ARE compatible with LOS-16 ROMs.
____________
2) Uh, so I've bootloader unlocked, installed TWRP and rooted and on Nougat/early Oreo. I don't plan on running stock firmware, so I can just go install an "Android 10" (LOS-17) ROM, right?
NO.
* You need to be on most recent OREO stock rooted firmware before attempting to install AOSP/LOS-16 Pie/Android 9 custom ROMs. V30 LOS-16 ROMs need LG stock Oreo/Android 8 blobs (drivers) and you need the most RECENT for everything to work right.
* You need to be on Pie/Android 9 stock rooted firmware before attempting to install V30 AOSP/LOS-17 "Android 10" custom ROMs. V30 LOS-17 ROMs need LG stock Pie/Android 9 blobs (drivers) for everything to work right.
In particular you can NOT be on LG early Oreo or Nougat, even though you needed to be on that initial bootloader unlock. There are TWRP-flashable zips (ROMs) based on stock Oreo/Android 8 KDZ or Pie/Android 9 KDZ to help you upgrade to later stock firmware. Links for stock firmware TWRP-flashable zips are posted in the Oreo/Android 8 and Pie/Android 9 KDZ threads for most major variants. Use these TWRP-flashable zips to update to most recent Oreo/Android 8 or Pie/Android 9 stock firmware before flashing any V30 AOSP/LOS-based custom ROMs.
When rooting your V30/V30+/V30S, you will TEMPORARILY downgrade to earlier LG stock firmware which can be exploited, unless you are already on that earlier firmware. After rooting, you should immediately upgrade back to most recent stock Oreo/Android 8 firmware via those TWRP-flashable zips or else things probably won't work right.
You do need to update to stock Pie first before trying to install "Android 10" LOS-17 custom ROMs.
____________
3) Hey, my AT&T H931/Canada H933 can't boot these LOS-based ROMs. What am I doing wrong?
FYI: AT&T H931 and Canada H933 V30 variants will need additional prep work before installing AOSP/LOS-based custom ROMs.
You can do it, there are dedicated threads for it. But just warning you -- it's many additional steps besides simple bootloader unlock, TWRP and root.
* Running any AOSP ROM on an US998 converted H931

____________
4) Tell me again about T-Mobile H932 and LOS-ROMs?
As of October 2020, any LOS-based ROMS produced after that date should be compatible with T-Mobile H932. Thanks to @ShapeShifter499. BEFORE that date, the ROM had to be specifically made for T-Mobile H932. To be safe, only install latest ROMs made well after 2020.
AFTER October 2020, ALL LOS "H930" Pie LOS-based custom ROMs are compatible with ANY V30 variant.
For LOS-based custom ROMs, the "H930" description in the ROM title simply means ANY V30 variant can run it. "H930" is often the generic name for the V30 series. I could explain why, but it doesn't matter. The exception is if you are installing H930 stock ROMs. Do NOT try to do that with H932! You will brick your phone. That's just how it is.
NOTE: For LOS-16 you need most recent stock Oreo blobs (drivers), NOT stock Pie. You need to be on last stock Oreo firmware for LOS-16. THIS is last T-Mobile H932 Oreo:

5) I need VoLTE!
I have India Jio carrier and they only have LTE, with no 3G HSPA to temporarily drop down to for voice calls.
Also, in the U.S., Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile are shutting down their 3G CDMA and HPSA in 2022.
I need VoLTE!
No VoLTE or VoWiFi on LOS-based ROMs. Stop asking. (Stock based ROMs like A.I.X. do have VoLTE.)
If you absolutely need VoLTE you need to flash back to stock firmware or possibly check out A.I.X. (But no promises about VoLTE on AIX for everyone. It also depends on the carrier.)
* Most Verizon users need Verizon VS996 firmware for VoLTE, but US998 can work.
* T-Mobile SIM card users can get VoLTE on both US998 firmware or T-Mobile H932 firmware
(WARNING: T-Mobile H932 firmware is only compatible with T-Mobile H932 phones. US998 firmware is NOT compatible with T-Mobile H932 phones, but can be flashed to any other North American V30 variant).
* India Jio users can use EAS (India) H930DS Pie firmware. Also, last Oreo EU H930 firmware has Jio VolTE, but not the EU H930 Pie firmware.
____________
6) What is this A.I.X. ROM I hear people talk about? I can't find it on XDA.
It's a Pie stock-based ROM. Like stock on steroids. Vast improvements in camera and battery usage. No, not found on XDA can be found elsewhere. Not for newbies, but users swear by it.
EDIT: The A.I.X. dev has pulled all files from public view.
____________
7) What if I don't like LOS-based custom ROMs? I hear there are bugs, we can't use LG camera, and there's no VoLTE.
Bugs in LOS-17 are slowly going away, but everything on stock rooted firmware does work just fine. I actually suggest you unlock bootloader, install TWRP and root and run rooted most-recent Oreo stock firmware -- with some Magisk mods -- for awhile before jumping into the custom LOS ROMs. (See point #1 about not updating to stock Pie until you are sure.) Read the various custom ROM threads -- see what works, what doesn't.
If you just want to run rooted stock firmware with Magisk and edXposed (to pass Safety Net) mods, last stock Oreo firmware is the most stable and stock Pie is not really an improvement.
____________
8) Why do I need TWRP? I just want ROOT!
PLEASE make TWRP backups, so you can restore back to rooted stock firmware in case you mess up something!
TWRP custom recovery is a magical time machine which can help you go back before you did something you shouldn't have. But it can only help you if you have a backup to restore. One of the best feelings in the world is when you done something idiotic on your rooted phone -- and then you remember you have a recent TWRP backup. You don't need to ask for help and no one even needs to know.
Also there are some mods you can only flash in TWRP.
____________
WARNING: Pedantic complaint ahead! TLDR: Calling a ROM by the letter Q is ignorant. I don't care who is doing it, it shows they don't understand the Android naming system.
9) What is the difference between Android "Q" ROMs and "Android 10" ROMs? I see both names, sometimes used interchangeably.
Please don't call Android 10 "Q". Q was the beta name. It's now graduated. It's no longer beta. It's "Android 10" -- and has the Android statue at Google HQ to prove it. LOS-17.x custom ROMs are based on Android 10 -- not made from beta "Q" (pre-Android 10) software.
If you are not aware...
With Google's long-time naming scheme for Android, first they released beta "alphabet letter", then revealed full name + statue at graduation from beta status. Final release name was based on a sweet snack/dessert. Many times over the years Google teased devs/users what the REAL name was going to be with false clues. If you keep using beta letter, you are REALLY referring to the old beta software, not current Android software. What confused some people with Android 10 is the escort dessert name never came. Instead of naming it after a dessert, Google decided beta Q would simply became Android 10. The statue at Google headquarters is "Android 10."
CONCLUSION:
No actual "Q" ROMs exist, to my knowledge or they are very outdated. "Q" was the beta letter for what became Android 10. Like a caterpillar vs butterfly. You don't keep calling it a caterpillar once it's turned into a butterfly!

"Q" on the left, "Android 10" on the right
People who call Android 10 by beta letter "Q" are committing a faux pas -- or simply they have no clue what they are talking about. If they are too lazy to say "Android 10", then just call it "10". Like they will eventually do with "11" or "12". Regrettably this includes some younger users -- even some Devs -- who came along recently and don't understand Google's historical naming convention. Starting with 2020 "Android 11", Google is ditching the beta "alphabet letter" entirely. It's simply called "Android 11 Developer Preview", and will be called Android 11 upon release. Same with 2021 "Android 12"... No more beta letters! But also no more dessert names, which were fun.
____________
But for those of you who don't know how it all worked over the past decade, read on...
When Google graduated an OS from beta to official release, they give it FULL name and a statue on Google Headquarters. The Naming/Statue Ceremony is a BIG deal and no one uses the beta letter again -- because it's officially out of beta.
"K", "L", "M", "N", "O", "P", "Q" were merely the beta letters before release and Google officially named them. I could go all the way back to beta "C" which became "Cupcake" -- but you get the point.
In the past, the official name was always a full dessert/snack name based on the beta letter. What the official name was going to be was always a matter of intense speculation in the months prior to release/naming ceremony and Google would often put false clues in the beta "letter" firmware. Only when the statue was revealed would you know the official name.
Beta "K" became "Kitkat" (Android 4.4, 2013) and got Kitkat statue
Beta "L" became "Lollipop" (Android 5, 2014) and got Lollipop statue
Beta "M" became "Marshmallow" (Android 6, 2015) and got Marshmallow statue
Beta "N" became "Nougat" (Android 7, 2016) and got Nougat statue
Beta "O" became "Oreo" (Android 8, 2017) and got Oreo statue
Beta "P" became "Pie" (Android 9, 2018) and got Pie statue
However, for Beta "Q" graduation, Google jettisoned the dessert name and only went with the version NUMBER, Android 10.
Beta Q became "Android 10" (2019) and got Android 10 statue.
It's no longer Q, because it's no longer beta OS. It's officially Android 10 with statue to prove it. If you speak of Q, you are talking about the beta firmware that came prior to "Android 10".
____________
WARNING: Sarcastic question ahead!
10) When I want to ask a question, I just post in the nearest thread I can find. Even if sort of on topic, I don't bother reading anything in that thread. Because my question is unique. No one in the past 3 years could have ever had a similar situation with this phone. Right?
Actually would be good for you to search relevant threads. 50 other people probably had the same issue, same question last year. Quick keyword search in a thread can give you immediate answer, without even posting your question. Besides simple keyword search, read the last few posts of a thread. Don't be narcissistic and assume ONLY YOU have ever encountered this issue or have this question. This phone was released in 2017 and I bet there's NOTHING we haven't seen, many times.
But if you have a question you can't find an answer for, ASK first in the Q&A forum before you screw up your phone. Those of us who have gone through it multiple times can help! You really don't want to 9008 brick your awesome phone... There's some actions even TWRP can't help you recover from.
* You need to be on Pie/Android 9 stock rooted firmware before attempting to install V30 AOSP/LOS-17 "Android 10" custom ROMs. V30 LOS-17 ROMs need LG stock Pie/Android 9 blobs (drivers) for everything to work right.

The reason I specifically say "North America" is to include Canada. Otherwise I would say U.S. The European and Asian V30 have some differences, but also use the WTF bootloader unlock method. However, the North American versions have to either be US998 or temporarily convert to US998 firmware because of the North American versions, only the US998 has the necessary fastboot flash commands. (The only North American variant which can NOT use WTF exploit is the T-Mobile H932, which has to use another method. Trying WTF on T-Mobile H932 will brick it.)

No. Wrong. Obtaining root privileges gives you the ability to modify the way the hardware and software interface and communicate. Many people 'break' or brick their smartphone because they want to 'make their phone faster.' Often root is more about a user (or customer) being given the ability and freedom to edit the hardware/software code exchange at various levels of Android OS architecture (code)

Ive tried it and its fine. U can debloat it with Pie commands (i've posted on last comments of Evolution X thread) and root with magisk. "XD-Kernel 2.0.2-Custom" can be flashed too by Franco Kernel Manager or SmartPack Kernel manager (twrp not available for Android Q partition system yet).
Overall, very good experience, but i missed the XD-Kernel 1.7 in Pie and his features, and rolled back to 20k firmware.

Thanks for the reply/info.
I am downloading it now. Mostly likely will flash tonight. Just have one question though. When you say debloat, are you referring to any carrier specific apps?. My guess is that G710AWM30b_00_OPEN_CA_OP_0605.kdz is a bloat-free firmware for unlocked devices. Let me know. I won't be flashing it if it going to be carrier specific ROM with their apps and functionalities.

If not working, u can try this dll for android10:

If not working, u can always to do the same process with normal .dll it provides, and rollback to pie.

Nice bro
For me was showing 710em30b with awm .kdz
I did the exact same thing except I did a partition dl flash and mine also shows as ULM30B! Doesn't matter as long as it works fine.
Signal wasn't great earlier, looks the same now. However I see VOLTE and Wifi-Calling.
The most important for me is the battery. The previous firmware was good with battery. I will be watching closely for the next few days.

Hello, what steps did you follow to install it? I have G7 sprint and I want to update to Android Q
why can't we have an android 10 kdz file? It's much easier IMO.
