Device is not certified - OnePlus 5T Questions & Answers

So apparently there has been an update and all my devices are now showing up as uncertified in the Play store. Anyone seen a new work around for this while running custom ROMs?
On the bright side it seems devices that you side load apps too, still get updates for the moment.

Stock OOS 5.1.4 UBL is also uncertified :|
Anyone else have this issue on Stock OOS with unlocked BL??
I've never seen my device be certified since I began using this phone. Is it normal for UBL phones to be uncertified even if they aren't rooted?

Hey alessandro,
Does disabling Play Protect have any role in this? I keep it disabled because I side-load many apps.

Sorry, your account has been flagged for piracy, so you'll have to reflash every 7 days else your account won't give up updates.

That's not what it means. Custom ROMs, unlocked boot loaders, rooted devices, etc, can trigger this. Generally custom kernels or Magisk would prevent this. However not anymore . Right now I'm seeing it across 4 accounts, 8 devices, 4 different types of devices, all LOS.

Here is the fix. Just tested this on the latest build of LOS, and it works fine. Direct link to the Magisk module.
Also those directions, say they chose a Pixel fingerprint, I chose the OP 5T fingerprint, it worked just fine. My device is now certified.

I tried that app, yes it passes. Both CTS profile and Basic Integrity come back true.
(Obviously adding that app to the hide list)

Bootloader Unlock and phone's encryption support

Dear All,
I was on my way to yet another bootloader unlocked phone of mine, but I happened to have a doubt about a point mentioned on Motorola's official BL unlock link:
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",

}
My concern lies with the possible loss of encryption support.
My questions are, will my Addison's encryption be lost if:
I unlock the bootloader but don't flash any custom ROM
&
I Root my phone and use system modifications like use Xposed and Viper4Android
Thank you for your patient and relevant help!
Cheers!!
I unlocked my bootloader and am rooted. Device still shows as encrypted. Not sure why they issued that warning.
are you all using the unlocked GSM model?

Thanks for that info.
With respect to why that warning by Motorola, I believe it is because once we unlock the bootloader and flash custom ROM that might not be complied to support encryption or there might be some bugs in the custom ROM that doesn't enable encryption or if we modify system in such a way after rooting that the encryption might be lost due to these changes.
Hence, I believe this is why Motorola says "You may lose encryption support."
This was my understanding but I wanted to get it cleared on xda.
Can anyone throw some more light on my understanding?
We can then close this thread after complete clarity to all members so this turns out to be a fruitful discussion to most members here.
Cheers!!

Rooted via systemmode Super SU or systemless?
LAst I had checked only systemmode was able to patch the boot image.

Hold up, does systemless root actually work for the Z Play then? I haven't received mine yet, but I was under the impression anything systemless wouldn't work from reading around, like Magisk or systemless SuperSU.

I rooted my Z Play (XT1635-02) recently using phh superuser.
Installed Magisk after that, and it seems to me it's systemless
as Adaway wouldn't work till I did the systemless hack - plus /system was read only

I see, thanks. Yeah, magisk is definitely systemless, good to know it can be used normally.
Just for clarification, you can decrypt by formatting data on twrp. By just unlocking or rooting the encryption does not go away.

Data Drain - Google Account Manager

Hi there, I have a rooted Pixel XL on 7.1.1. every day lately, I get data warnings from Google Account Manager. It seems to just want to download stacks of data (on both wifi or cell) for no apparent reason.

I can't find the source but I've read that this is the cause. I would update if you haven't and see if the drain ceases.
I need a bit of help here. I "unrooted" via the Super SU app. Rebooted, tried to update. Still failed. I also have lost root. Super annoying. Is there anything else that the updater is expecting that i haven't restored???
I have the same problem and can't update. Bl unlocked and rooted

You both need to download the full factory image. Then edit the flashall.bat file and remove the -w to save data and apps. That will flash everything except data and apps.
Then re TWRP and re root.

So i finally got around to doing this today. Removed the -w from the flash-all.bat. it wiped the device anyway:
Also, search for updates, says it's up to date already with security patch level: December 5, 2016. Clearly this isn't the case. So frustrating..
.
Are there any good roms that do away with this auto update garbage?

January 5th is the latest update, you're still one update behind. Any ROM will do away with the OTAs. The 2 most popular out right now are Dirty Unicorns and PureNexus. I ran both on my 6P and while very different, both are top notch with awesome developers. I'm still somewhat convinced it's a background OTA process since you're not on the newest patch. Also go to settings-google and make sure nothing is stuck trying to sync in the background. If it has completed all checked syncs, it will have a time stamp.

Samsung Pay Help

Great Minds of XDA ...I need a bit of help.
I recently switched to the OnePlus 5T and I am having trouble getting Samsung Pay to work on my Gear S3.
I have everything installed but when I launch Samsung Pay I get an error message that it doesn't support rooted devices.
I have rooted with Magisk and I am on stock OOS 4.7.4 . I also have set Magisk to Hide root on all the Samsung Gear apps/plugin's.
Thanks in advance.
bump
If you use the apk from apkmirror it will let you set up the card so long as you don't update it. I'm not sure how long you can put off updates, but it's at least a start:

I have the Gear S3 on this phone too, but I've never used Samsung pay. Mine doesn't mention root though, it just says there's some security issue with my device (on the latest update.

Ok I have a gear s3 and using samsung pay
I'm on open beta 1 but also when I was on 4.7.6. It also worked.
I installed the apk from apk mirror. After this make sure u have the latest magisk. 15.3 magisk hide everything with the name samsung in it.
Also make sure u are passing safety net and don't have mods like xposed.
Btw I cannot see samsung pay in gear manager. Make sure u install the gear plugin version and it will install as a service not a app. So download a service launcher like this (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sika524.android.quickshortcut )
To make it an app
And it should work.
Here's what mine looks like

Yeah, that's the same error I get. I'm curious if it's related to root or if there's some error contacting the server

That's the version that I linked to, but my phone says there's an update available and Samsung Pay will not work after the update. I can see the plugin in my gear app both before and after the update.
Well I see this a lot too.
I'm getting the same error now. Seems to be a knox error I think. I restored a backup of the older version .
You's find a workaround?

Verizon PixeL 8.1 Stock with Magisk- Google Backup isn't working

The account is the only one and main, google drive backup is set up, also photos, also in google accounts.
Nothing helps.
Magisk might not be a culprit here, but I dunno.
Really need at least one backup of all my settings, apps, etc.
Please help me out. Maybe someone has a similar problem.
Thanks.

Two things,
1. Install drive
2. Make sure drive storage is not full.
Okay well 3 things.. Reboot
Not guaranteed to work just something to try

Doubt that twrp has anything to do with google backup.
Thanks for your input.
Extra info: Magisk passes SafetyNet's both factors with flying colours. Out of ideas here.

I'm not using custom kernel.
Just really strange.
Thing is: when you reflash stock 8.1, after restoring, while android setups, etc., you can actually BACKUP to google account no problem.
After flashing Magisk, it's just greyed out.
Not sure if Magisk is the culprit, but dunno what else.
Yes, unlocked bootloader maybe interferes with the Safety check, but Magisk passes both factors of SafetyNet everytime.

Disney+

I've heard it may have something to do with WideVine DRM or something. I've tried the Magisk DRM module with no change.
Seems to be an issue with people who are stock, unrooted, and locked as well.
Any ideas how to get around?

So apparently it has something to do with Google's Play Protect feature, supposedly if you're on stock and have an unlocked bootloader it flags your device as unprotected even though it still scans your apps (at least that's my understanding). I flashed Lineage 17 and was able to download both Disney+ and Netflix without issue with my bootloader unlocked.
