Moto G5s XT1799-2 is compatible with stock firmware XT1792 - Moto G5S Questions & Answers

Sorry for the bad english!
Finally, I have a xt1799-2 (chinese moto g5s) and the zui 3.1 rom not have pt-br language.
if i flashes xt1792 rom(comes with pt-br language), its can work or its brick?
The differences between the two is just the front camera, NFC and 4gb vs 2gb, I do not use the nfc so I do not care
Appreciate

From what I could see of a chino when installing the stock rom of the bike g5s everything works except the NFC and the Frontal camera, could someone inform me if replacing some files of the montana by montana_retcn does not make these sensors work? example fsg.mbn

did you really install xt1792 ROM to xt1799-2 ?

The front camera won't work because the XT1799-2 uses a different sensor than the one used in the other XT179x models.
And fsg.mbn has to do with the baseband. What you would need to do to (try to) get both NFC and front camera working is to copy some system files from the Brazilian firmware to the Chinese one you're using. And probably have a custom kernel built as well.
Edit: oh, and don't flash any bootloader related stuff. It may hard brick your phone.

I was looking at the boot.img and for me it looks identical when it extracts, the Chinese one has some files init.retcn.rc init.retca.rc, init.reteu.rc, and one of dtv unless the br in ramdisk, now I can not find anything related to the camera drivers or the NFC, could you help me figure out where to find these files?

I have not tested yet but a Chinese tested the https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...cial-firmware-moto-g5s-montana-t3687768/page5
and he said that only the camera and the NFC did not work, I still have not tried because I'm waiting for my phone to arrive, Correios do Brasil sucks
Ahhh as Kaminari said above do not flash the bootloader because there are a lot of people bricking the phone because the bootloader version is smaller than the one you're using (I do not understand it right but you better not risk it)

In china every motorola phone comes with the ZUI, I think it's because la can not use google and etc. Unfortunately when I bought I did not know this detail, I only found out later, but I already saw a process similar to the bike z2 play

My phone arrived today, unlock his flash and then flash the moto g5s rom without the bootloader, boot, modem, fsg, dsp, and without the imei erase, the phone turned on and such but the wifi did not work(don't enable) , nor the camera, I tried to install the twrp of montana in it, the version of squid did not work, the other was upside down and asking for a password to unlock but could not do anything because it was upside down and I gave up trying to see if you could get the camera to work , does anybody know how to solve these small twrp problems and give me tips on where to get the wifi settings?
wifi does not have mac when I install the g5s version, how do I fix this?
first I have to solve the twrp to be able to flash the future files to correct the bugs (or not?)

New Mi 5S Plus - essential first steps

Hello,
I will getting the Xiaomi Mi 5S Plus tomorrow.
What are some of the first things I should be doing? I feel like I will not like the MIUI too much as I have used stock android on my old Nexus and more recently Cyanogen on my OPO. I plan to install Cyanogenmod on the phone as soon as they release it.
I believe I should do the following to prepare for that so that I do not need to start from scratch in the future (unsure of order and how to do it, some advice and guides here would be helpful, as well as an explanation of the purpose of each step):
- install custom recovery (I'm 99% certain I need to do this to install another ROM)
- root the phone (I don't think this is necessary, but allows me to do other things e.g. use Greenify)
- unlock bootloader (not sure what the purpose of this is)
Are there any other steps I should take?
Thanks in advance!

Can you please explain what you mean a bit more?
No need to root?
What is mi ui EU rom? I have intl version of the device (Hong Kong). Does this make a difference?
Thanks!
Without unlocking the bootloader, you can't install any custom recovery or custom ROM, just the official Xiaomi releases.
The eu version have less chinese apps and some minor changes compared to the global version. You can check the differences in their website.
Once you have unlocked the bootloader and install twrp, becoming root is pretty easy.

I also use Xiaomi EU. It works great. If you want the UI to look slightly more like a Nexus or Pixel try the "Pixel N" or "Android N" themes.

If you are talking about xiaomi.eu, yes it's different.
It's based on official China ROM and as you can see the release of official Global ROM is lagging behind china rom for both mi5s versions. For example stable for Plus is 8.0.4.0 for Global (I guess just one release) while it's 8.2.2.0 for China.
It's cleaned from Chinese apps, it contains many European languages (including Italian) and gapps.

I'm on 8.0.4.0 of Global Rom and I must admit that this is the first phone which makes me so satisfied. I'm gonna stay close to later products from Xiaomi as long as they keep doing this way.
I don-t understand the different ROM-s.
I now have 8.0.4 Global Stable.
It seems tha a 8.2.2 Global Stable should come out since 20 February (but did not come out)
Then there is a 7.3.9 Global Beta released March 10
http://en.miui.com/thread-534687-1-1.html
But why Beta is a LOWER number (7.3.9 to 8.0.2)???????????
Very confusing

4GB is a lot of Ram in my opinion.
Think if you need 64 or 128 of storage in your phonbe, and make your decision based on that.
As far as I know, for my usage (and I am a heavy user) 4GB of RAM is enough nowadays

Thanks for trying to help. I have now resolved the problem!. The reason phone was not sending was because of 3G signal only at my home. When I tried in a 4G area not far from my location a picture message flew through. Many thanks re whats app .I use same and there is no difficulty sending pictures on it as I Have good broadband 240 megabytes boosted to almost double that with an Asus rt -87 u router and an Asus AC -66 extender. Is there a Custom ROM for Huawei 7X/Mate SE?

Would like to use a clean version of Android instead of the EMUI version that is loaded on all their phones.
Seeing how these phones are identical, figured what would work for one would work with the other.
Thanks for giving me any insight.
Coming from the Galaxy Note 4 - hoping I'm not making a mistake with this phone that is enroute.

Here is a list of supported custom ROMs on Mate SE, Choose the A only ROM.
https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/wiki/Generic-System-Image-(GSI)-list
The whole custom ROM world has changed, Now you need to apply system.img instead of rom.zip using fastboot command.
I have the PHH-Treble installed on my Huawei Mate SE. here is the link.

Coincidentally, just booted that ROM (on my SE) today. It's very very good, noticed a few minor glitches to do with the camera and navigation (will let them know about em).
I'll admit though, emui8 is growing on me It's certainly better than 5.1 was. Love to see the roms becoming available though. No doubt when updates stop (or before), they will be critical to have.

I don't mind emui except that the power-saver regularly kills tasker, ad-blocking vpns, etc. I've tried everything to exempt them from power saving but no go. The battery life is outstanding though (I usually only lose 15% after a full day's usage), so for average users it's a bonus.

Nothing terribly serious. I didn't use it for long, but the camera option for selfie shutter 'palm to camera' didn't work. Also the recently taken shots didn't show in the bottom gallery (I read this is fixed now). And the navigation arrows at the bottom seemed to not be persistent somehow (after a reboot this was okay).
It's easy to go back to stock, except if you haven't backed everything up, have to reconfigure, add / subtract apps etc.
I'd suggest searching for the openKirin website, they seem to be doing the most development. Also follow their directions, they worked for me and pretty easy.
Hi
How does one flash the "Openkirin_los_beta4" Iso to the Mate SE (BND-L34)? TWRP?? Fastboot??? what are the exact steps to not render it a paper weight again lol; Do you need Magisk-v16.0 to root it as well?

No, you don't need a custom bootloader.
You only need unlocked bootloader and unlocked frp.
TWRP is not supported on OpenKirin ROMs (especially on 7x twrp won't work).
You just need to flash the .img file through bootloader and then reboot to recovery and do a factory data reset.
Can anyone give me some advice: I have the Mate SE, currently on EMUI 8.0.0.332 (security update available but not installed), with TWRP and Magisk. I would love to install a custom ROM, but the OpenKirin site says TWRP isn't supported. Can I still install one of those builds and just expect no support if something goes wrong, or should I find some way to return to full stock before flashing? And if I need stock recovery, where can I find a download for it? I haven't had any luck on searching here yet.

[Solved] Latest version of Stock FM Radio for LG G7+

Can someone please upload the latest signed version (v6.10.x) of stock FM Radio for LG G7+
I've already downloaded v5.30.11 of the stock FM app and so far it's the only version working on my phone (others do not get installed) But I need to upgrade to a more recent version as I feel there are bugs in version 5.30.11
Note: Kindly don't recommend Next Radio or similar third party app as they are not available in my country.

just wondering. if this is something that the phone (hardware) already supports. What is it that holds the manufacture (in our case LG) giving this out of the box ? (India LG G7+ Thinq user here)
Also, is it safe to install the .apk here on phones which do not have the functionality ?

I would guess if your version, already has the radio in it then yes.. If it doesn't then it would fail during install... I remember on a previous phone, I tired to install one, and it says not supported.. Won't hurt the phone.

That doesn't seem like the case from the many comments i see on this thread. Many users who do not have the FM radio in their phones have downloaded and installed the apk where it is working fine. Takes me back to my wondering question on what keeps the manufacturer from not providing it out of the box.

Well in my case, it was probably I did not have FM radio period.. I'm not sure, manufactures do some weird crap, the we need to question all the time..
Also worked on my G710PM(which flashed to G710ULM11e). Many thanks!

All LG phones have the hardware support for FM Radio. It's just that in certain models, LG chose not to include the stock (pre-installed) FM Radio app out of the box (probably to make the UI appear less cluttered)
However one has the option to find out the relevant signed apk from reliable sources like XDA and install it manually post which the app will start working flawlessly.
In worst case scenario, it'll show error during or at the beginning of installation (in case the app version is not supported or if the apk is not signed or if the apk package itself is corrupt)
Thanks !! worked on Indian version LG G7 perfectly..!!!
Спасибо большое, очень помогло, установился и заработал без проблем на Lg G7+ Thinq , 9 андроид, сборка Индия
Currently, the latest version of stock FM Radio (pre-installed in G8) is v7.20.15

Which is the best version of the Pie firmware?

Hello there!
I'm still running the old Oreo firmware on my note 5 pro (global), but I've been having some issues and I feel its time for a reinstall.
However as far as I can see, every ROM under the sun requires the "new" (well, its not new anymore) Pie firmware, and as I understand it, that firmware brings a slight downgrade in battery life among other things, but it seems to depend upon which version is installed.
So, which version of the Pie firmware is considered the best as of now in terms of performance/battery and all that jazz.
Any advice would be very appriciated!

I've used many firmwares but 9.4.25 is best for me bcoz it shows correct battery specification while charging (4000 mAh)
Does firmware version make a noticable difference? Also, it's safe to downgrade Pie firmware?

This is what i've heard as well, (one on 9.xx but i dont remember which one it was, haha) but I figure it's safer to go with this and upgrade later if it gives me trouble. I am on ARB4 and I don't know how the different firmware versions play with it...

Interesting, I don't think I've seen 11.xx recomended that much, have you found it to be better.
Also just generally I know this is a very nitpicky subject, but since Xiaomi has blessed their phones with ARB I really dont want to screw it up, need the phone to keep on working, haha

It has newer blobs and vedors stuff. I'm using custom Q(android 10) ROM, soo I must using Q firmware for compatibility.
Besides that any ABR4 firmware is good to go.

Do you think most of the bugs will be cleared out by the end of the year? Also, which kdz should I use if I want band 71 support?

I don't know anything about the bugs, but for b71 2 of the roms have it; US OP Pie (no Q yet) and KR OP which is Korean Open (Q version available) has b71 also.
cheers

I was thinking it might be possible to grab the modem partition from sprint or unlocked pie and write them over before installing this ROM. Would that work, or would it be incompatible?

I'm not sure, have not tried that. I've read others suggesting the same thing but don't know if they've had success with it. I'd bet it wouldn't as there are so many threads, in various model phones, about which rom supports which bands. If that problem could be resolved by simply using the modem partition from a diff rom, it happening would almost certainly be common knowledge and many threads with various modem partitions available, but there aren't.

Ended up trying it and it prevents boot to system and recovery. I replaced all 4. modemst1,modemst2,modem_a,modem_b
I think we'll have to wait for them to make Q for v405qa unlocked.
I used v405ebw with lineage 18. VoLTE and VoWiFi aren't supported, which basically makes Mint Mobile unusable except for data.

I'd suggest another option, as 405qa Q arrival is ???, use the korean open 30e. That's what I have. One mod makes it quite workable; copy the US Open /OP partition (from Pie) and use it instead of the KR Open partition. Everything works, including vowifi and volte. And it does get b71. There's only 1 other small change needed to get vowifi to work.
It's very solid and haven't had any trouble with it at all. Something to consider.
I just found out that a great deal of work can be done with Cellular Support via the Qualcomm PDC tool.

Can you link the Korean open download? Also, what is the small change for VoWiFi?
Yes it's on this link. It's at the top of the list, the KR Open, 30e is the last one in the beginning section.
The other change is minor, have to enter the service menu with the dial code and it's one of the SVC (iirc) fields you have to enable vowifi. I can find it if you decide to do it.
There's a little 'trick' u need to do when cross flashing, to avoid the 'NT_Error' thing when u first boot up. It doesn't cause a problem, it's just annoying. Just after doing a partition DL of the rom, let it boot of course, to finish. Then shut it off, don't touch anything. Then use LG up and do a refurbish with same rom. No more nt-error code thing.
Also, even though the firmware page (above) doesn't indicate it, that rom does have b71. I have a screen shot of the phone using lte discovery connected to b71 on that rom. It's there.

I'm trying to boot TWRP. When I run
Code:
fastboot boot judypn_TWRP_bootable-metadata.img
it reads out this:
Code:
downloading 'boot.img'...
OKAY [ 0.942s]
booting...
FAILED (remote: unknown command)
finished. total time: 0.946s
This is after flashing the Korean Open version. I'm not sure what to do. I made sure USB Debugging was on and changed the driver to the official LGE one, but no luck.
I tried everything on google. Still no luck.

You should get fastboot working via 9008 guide (I suggest not to wipe lafs on both slots), then fastboot TWRP.

If you install this apk (only on los), it will allow you to switch to the other side and reboot recovery. It's hard coded (I changed the original file) to boot to recovery after you select the other slot. Did it for the exact situation you're experiencing.

Hello forum!
I have LG LM-V405QA and would like to have a ROM flashed that removes all Google everything. I have flashed ROMs in the past, but have already spent too much time researching with no results. I am in California, USA.
This is a serious inquiry. Please help.
Thank you.
