Best "Preferred network type" settings for use in Germany? - Xiaomi Mi 5s Questions & Answers

Hey there,
I just moved to Germany with my mi5s.
I know the device doesn't support LTE band 20 (800Mhz), so in some places I'm stuck with 3G.
But it happened to me twice that I coudn't even make normal phone calls. I'm not sure whether that was a bug in LOS 15.1. But it made me wonder: Maybe there is a better configuration for mi5s in a "band-20" place like Germany?
My current setting is "TD-SCDMA/GSM/WCDMA/LTE".
Can anyone recommend any other setting, or should I keep it as is?
Cheers,
Linus X.

There is no way to enable band 20 as you probably know But you can use GSM/WCDMA/LTE setting and maybe it will be more stable for phone calls.
In Serbia we also have band 3 and band 20 4G, so sometimes we are restricted to 2G or 3G. I am using proposed settings and I have good signal

Thanks for your advice.
I'm using this setting now and internet connection seems okay.
But I have a different issue: Often phone calls get inerrupted as soon as the other person picks up. Really annoying! I then switch to "GSM only" and can call normally. But obviously that's not a solution.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Linus X.

You can try with LOS 16, I am using it and I don't have issues with network or call quality. I am living in city where there is enough 4g antennas for band 3.

Make sure VoLTE is not enabled, nor is Wifi calling.

Cannot select manual network?

Hi,
I've purchased an unlocked TP2 from Clove and it seems to be working well, except for one irritating problem. I cannot select a network operator manually. I have the tab available but everytime I click on it, it gives me a 'device.exe' error.
I have been experiencing a lot of missed calls and my network operator suggested that I change the automatic settings to manual. This obviously did not happen and my callers continue to get a 'customer not reachable message'.
I tried calling HTC (India) and they had no idea on how to resolve this issue, partly because the TP2 hasn't been released here as yet.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance
had the same missed calling problem, but it lies on the EDGE network where i always ON, change it to 3G and problem is gone. however, battery life decreased significantly
Unfortunately, I can't seem to find the 3G selection tab. I wonder if it's because the one I have is a Euro version? Will dig in deeper.
Thanks

Look under start\settings\phone\band change it to only use GSM and it will stop switching between bands, however data will be much slower on GSM than UMTS.
Cheers,

Still no luck. Will keep on pegging at this.

WCDMA / GSM auto problem

Hello Guys,
I'm experiencing a problem with my Froyo Desire for probably a week now.
The thing is that in certain areas my Phone can not receive calls / sms or such. In other words "GSM services" dont work. 3g though works fine (stable, strong and fast connection) My Provider is T-Mobile.
After quite a lot of testing I was able to isolate the error:
When WCDMA / GSM is chosen by the phone automatically it seems to me as if it didnt switch "back" to register with my provider via GSM when i want to make a call or if someone wants to call me.
When i switch to "GSM only" manually everything works fine but i have no 3g of course.
I also experience this problem only in certain areas. I live in an area where there is really strong HSDPA available (up to 7mbit\s). When i go to other places of my city i still get HSDPA (not as strong) but calls / sms still work.
The last paragraph may be of no importance, i don know.. probably it helps..
I have googled quite much about this problem and also found a few persons experiencing the same issue but nobody was able to come up with a solution.
I would be very thankful if someone could try to figure this out.

gsm only Desire?
I'm having a nightmare with 3g 2g connectivity on my Desire on the three network whilst at home. If I could manually select gsm only this would be fine as I could still call and text and use wi-fi. Unfortunately my options are gsm/wcdpa (or whatever) auto or the 3g only.
can someone please advise if it is possible to select gsm only and if so, how?
many thanks
Can someone please advise me how if possible, to set the desire to gsm only?

Wireless and network-Mobile network- should be here somewhere.
Thanks, but there is no option for gsm only. It's wcdma only or gsm/wcdma auto. there has to be a way around this.
Similar problem, different version
I've experienced similar problem.
In some area, I can get steady grps signal when I switched GSM only on; but when I switched WCDMA/GSM on, I could get no data connection at all.
I'm using China Unicom's mobile service.
Solution
Hi there,
I've the same issue and I fix it allowing the option GSM/WCDMA Auto in the configuration menu.
Then enter the following code *#*#4636#*#*, select "phone Information" and set preferred network type, set "GSM car (PRL)".
Sorry about my bad english.

HTC Desire reception

Hello! I bought a desire second hand and it has no reception. I tried to change the radio and I tried almost everything. It didn't work. When there is an outgoing connection the reception is 3 and 4 bars but when the device go to sleep and then wakes up there is no reception. I think that is a problem in 2G module but I can't find the desire's scheme to see where is the 2G module situated and to see if it is broken.
Please if someone has a a scheme please post it or know what is the problem.

It looks at the operator's APN, it is possible that they are not in his place.
Is it Sim-Unlock???
You should not change the Radio until you do not solve the problem. Anyway: does he settle well when you change it?

Yes, it is Sim-Unlock. When the outgoing connection is active, there is no problem, Sometimes it drops but most of the cases it is stable and it doesnt stop. But when going to sleep there is no reception.
I look at the APN but everything is ok.
Type this on telephone: *#*#4636#*#*
It looks in the principal field of the submenu, and if it puts WCDMA you must change to GSM auto (PRL). It can be that it gives turned out...
Greetings.

Good Luck!! and Grettings!!
Is someone know if there is some tech in the antenna cover or what is the role of it?
i have the same problem.
WCDMA works fine but GSM is broken. I've tried everything... different radios, settings, etc... looks like a hardware defect.
Did you find a solution?
I would love to find a way to really troubleshoot this. I've been having problems with flakey reception for a very long while. Im inclined to think the desire simply does not perform well in areas with moderate to low coverage. In other words, it needs a strong signal.
Are you sure your provider has a gsm network? In Canada, Bell and Telus (and their discount brands) don't have a gsm network. They built a hsdpa network on top of their old 2G cdma network. They are not compatible. Rogers network is better since you can always fall back on the legacy gsm network.

UMTS/HSDPA/3G not connecting on MIUI 8 for anyone else?

I have an issue with every build I've tried of MIUI 8 (Stable versions), but not with the developer versions of MIUI 9.
The phone will not connect to UMTS/3G networks with either sim. LTE works fine, and there's no GSM where I live so I can't test that.
It will connect for a moment when first booting up the phone, then immediately disconnect and stay disconnected. It can't find 3G networks when searching either.
Again, this doesn't happen on MIUI 9 builds, but I figure this big of a bug, they would never release it as stable. Can anyone else let me know if they've had this problem?
Hello, I`m having same issue, here in this way. In town there are many repeaters. Here is no problem, in germany many 4G-Networks are working in band 20 (800 mhz). In areas, where no 4G/lte is possible, the mi mix2 (china stable miui8 and china dev miui9) the mix2 can not connect to 3G/UMTS. A smartphone Redmi note 4 with this SIMCard connects to 3G/UMTS and gets connection data to HSDPA+. The mi mix icon diasappears and there is a "emergency" Icon. Then the mi mix2 connect only to GSM and after 1-2 minutes get Data to EDGE. But at this place it is possible to connect to 3G. I rebooted the device many times, changes sim to other slot. Tried China dev and stable. Last test with XIAOMI.EU and EPICROM for MIX2 are sad. Same issue
Many MIX2-User have this effect. I have this effect on Sim-Cards from provider Telefonica/O2. I have tried 3 Sim-cards from provider O2. No 3G - Connect.
In germanys-forums the is a hint to define "force 3G-Connects". Some user writes, that they do not have this effect with this definition.
Does have XIAOMI a 3G-Bug with new MIMIX2??

The default Setting for this SIM is: LTE/TD-SCDMA/WCDMA... this is almost wrong, because we havent TD-SCDMA in Germany, i ve switched to LTE/UMTS RPL ...this seems to work better with my o2 card.
Sometimes the connection breaks down from LTE or LTE+ to H+ ...but after the break down, i have no data connection. If i activate flight mode and re enable data, i also get H+ but for now with data connecting. This is very frustrating
Also that my Settings to LTE/UMTS are removed after a reboot or i switch to the second sim. Any suggestions to fix it permanent to LTE/UMTS ?
Did anyone tried MI MIX 2 Global - Version?´ Bug exists still there?
I am on 9.1
I set it on LTE/TD-SCDMA/GSM. I live in Germany too and have a O2 card.
GSM is slower than UMTS cause it's older. But it works without problems.
Now I trying with LTE/TD-SCDMA/UMTS. I have to say that I have some problems too.

sim 1 + data card : o2
sim 2 as voice card: D1
if i make a call with sim 1 / D1 my first sim as data sim loose the data connection, even it is connected to a lte network...strange thing today i had a conf call over sim2 for about 4 hours, while this time i didnt recieve any mail or whatsapp.
but if i set sim 2 / D1 as data card and make a voice call, this card wont loose data....strange, maybe a o2 issue?
edit: made a test with D1 as data and if make a call with the o2 card, also d1 loose data instant
I have a new (2.nd) MI MIX 2. And: I have the same Problem. O2 is switching vom GSM/EDGE to UMTS an gets no Connect. Then only "EMRGENCY CALLs". And then GSM again. o2 is provider. roaming is on.
With second SIM (Vodafone) there is no problem. Is there a fix for that problem? One member wrote there is a new "radio". Where to find it?
Same SIM (o2) in a REDMI NOTE 4 (LTE Band 20 800 MHZ) is "ok". It is an MI MIX 2 - Problem!
I have the MIUI 9 Global.
MI MIX2 with O2 and no LTE and no 3G/UMTS??? Joke?

change network to LTE/UMTS PRL ...then it should work better PRL = prefered roaming list; go to settings -> about phone -> tap several times on the info about internal storage -> the network app will appear, now you can change network settings... until next boot, then you have to set it again
maybe mix 2 has a problem with national roaming?! cause o2 uses national roaming -> their own network and the network from e-plus
Yes, the MIX 2 does have issues with switching to anything other than LTE. Even when it says it switched to H or H+ there is actually no reception at all and it takes a few minutes for it to recover. Really annoying, hopefully the engineers fix this issue as soon as possible. Pretty inexcusable bug for such a device.
Hello, Switching to " LTE/UMTS PRL" has the effect, only UMTS/3G-Connections are possible. No LTE/4G. Provider: German O2.
XIAOMI might have to fix this bug.
Q: Has anyone took a Message to [email protected] ?? http://en.miui.com/forum.php?mod=bugfeedback&fid=5&page=1

LTE/UMTS PRL fixed that for me totaly ... i dont had any issues since them! I am also getting LTE and LTE-A with o2 and i am travelling a lot due to my job in germany.
i think its also problem with o2 and national roaming. if you search for this problem in google, you will find the same issue reports from other devices within in the o2 network. I did never had the same problems with my other D1 card in the same device.
LTE/UMTS does not work for me.
Since yesterday I use LTE/TD-SCDMA/UMTS and it works fine.
Provider: O2 Germany
It looks like 3G/HSPA doesn't work when roaming (possibly local roaming too). LTE works fine. In the UK I can get internet all the time regardless of connection type. I travelled abroad and only LTE worked using my UK SIM. This also happens on AOSP based ROMs since I'm using Resurrection Remix and still experienced the issue.

Yes, this is clearly a firmware-level issue. They need to fix their modem.

UK user here tried putting my settings to LTE and LTE/WCDMA.

LTE/UMTS works here in the US. Correct me if I'm wrong but think 5T's are all GSM, and that might be why setting CDMA isn't working for ya
