dissapointed speakers?? - Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 Questions & Answers

I'm very disappointed with the speakers. There not bad...there great for watching films etc...there loud and crisp. But for music there not very good, they have practically zero bass and lacks depth. I know some might say listen with headphones but coming from the iPad pro, the iPad had a lot more depth and bass .

In settings you can change this with equaliser and Dolby atmos (like in Samsung music), I just discover that reading you and having same feeling as you !

Yeah I know but unfortunately this only makes a tiny bit of a difference and it still lacks bass and depth

For me Very big differences

Listening and testing

Also

Only made slight difference for me. The iPad pro 10.5 speakers are miles better for music

Agreed, biggest disappointment of this tablet is the sound. If they made it wide screened for better media consumption, I was hoping that Samsung together with AKG will finally deliver. Unfortunately all Samsung devices sound like crap, including the Note line from Note 1. I have always rooted them to get at least better volume , but the quality of sound is still crap compared to Apple. I am not Apple fan at all. I am hoping for last 8 years that they will improve the sound quality on their devices.

Personally I think the sound quality on the SGTS4 is great when compared to the previous iterations of the SGTS series. They are good for media consumption and gaming. However I am not a hardcore audiophile.

Agreed. I had the same problem with the Tab S3. Atmos does help, but when sitting next to my buddy's 1st gen iPad Pro, the difference is embarrassing. I'm considering getting a pro. For the improved sound, and the hardware performance in general. I just hate having to pay for the pencil. The Tab S4 is a better deal.

Nothings really better on the iPad other than the speakers. I came from the pro 10.5

compared to the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 edition), my last tab, the sound is 12X better from the speakers, and entirely serviceable.
just not substantial...

Quality head phones

I am wondering whether its worth purchasing an expensive night quality pair of head phones for my new galaxy note?
I'm sure the sound driver on this unit is a Yamaha produce and its very poor and wouldn't produce high enough quality for top spec head phones anyway.
am I correct? I would like to hear your views!

I have HiFi Re-Zero. Sounds that delivered with my note and this wonderfull headphones are perfect!!! HiFi sound ))) best price/quality. All music in FLAC.

I tested some earphones on my dad's Galaxy Note. (UE triple fi 10 and Super.Fi 4vi)
For mp3 format songs, a middle class earphone is okay...
In my opinion, HTC machines have better sound quailty
You can achieve a reasonable quality with the Note. Definitely not on par with other audio sources but this is what I do. Rip music at 320 bit rate.
Headphones. Try and make sure the ohms is under 32. Most portable are, but 16 ohms is better for the Note as it doesn't go naturally as loud as I would like. Then look at the sound pressure level. You preferably need a score of over 108db.
The top end sennheiser IE8 have incredible measurements. And consequently go loud and dynamic and punchy bass with ease. But they are very expensive.
I don't think the Note needs expensive cans, but don't buy inefficient headphones. They won't go loud and will lack dynamics.
I've got some mid range sennheiser in ears, and I'm extremely happy with the quality.

I fully admit, although I love music, I certainly wouldn't class myself as an audiophile, and may well have damaged my ears through the years, so they might well sound crap. For me they're fantastic

I use the Senn HD215 closed back units and find them pretty good from the Note for mp3 bitrates above 192kbps.
i have the creative x-fi headphones. the x-fi crystalliser improves the audio quality enough for me to be happy enough with it. it doesnt compare to the surround sound system i have in my room, but its good enough.
Thanks allot guys for the comments and thoughts on what you use. I will check your accessories out and go from there.

Neutron MP
Instead of rushing out to buy headphones, I would suggest upgrading the music player to Neutron MP, first.
The UI is not very good, but the sound quality is fantastic! Volume is increased to a point that will hurt your ears, if you want. I have compared it side by side on my Note and previously, on my Dell Streak 5. Neutron MP wins every time. The difference in sound quality is quite noticeable.
Finally, Dmitry, the developer, is very knowledgeable, extremely responsive to his forum or emails, and is constantly updating and improving an already great product. He has a SGSII which is very similar to our Note so he is developing directly for us!
I am a very satisfied user!!!

I used to have an iPhone and the ipod app really was easy to manage. I miss the double tap to go to next song and triple to go back on my note
And yeah, rather look into music apps than headsets

Does that player reduces the sound to half when you start recording ?
Will that player also switch off when I activate the camera ?

Depends on what kind of music you listen... Beats are a piece of crap for the price. I use a pair of Westone 4R, and even though I have an ipod video which is better for music than the note, the note is good enough, specially with playerpro.
The Monster Turbine are better than the Beats, for a similar price and same manufacturer. Otherwise, you can check Shure 840 for a full size can and medium prized or the ATH M50 for the best bang for the buck headphone out there.
[audiophile headphones]
Remember, all you need is
I got 2 headphones.
Sennheiser M550 (Bluetooth)
Sennheiser HD650
I have a pair of JH16 Pros from JH Audio for reference listening, and a pair of Shure SE530s for everything else.
The Yamaha DAC in all current Galaxy phones is garbage, so you might as well get a cheaper set if you'll only be using them with your Note.
I installed DSPManager and bought a pair of noise cancellation headphones from AblePlanet;
www.ableplanet.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=38
The sound is incredible!
PS: I bought from WorldWideStereo online.

Note 4 Call Quality and speakerphone (speakers in general)

Hey!
I was previously interested in the Sony Z2 but returned it because of issues with call quality, mainly the speaker being sh*t. I reckon the new Z3 will be of similar style. Although probably one of the best phones in the market, I can't live with the waterproofing making speakers worse.
The idea of a stylus and sketching on a phone intrigues me since I get so many ideas where ever and have little ways to scribble them down. Therefore I'm really considering getting a Note 4 even though I realize the real usage may be nonexistent in reality. Now, my question is, how is the speaker on the Note 4? I don't necessarily need stereo speakers, as the value of stereo on a smartphone is questionable but I do prefer decent sound quality. I talk A LOT on speakerphone and I want it to be crisp and clear. Also, how are youtube videos on the speaker?
PS. I'm coming from a SGS3 and want better battery life and bugless UI.
Anyone have a say on the speakerphone quality? And the onboard speaker in general.
I find the sound from the speaker load enough but a bit tinny. Speaker phone is good and YouTube videos are acceptable however I prefer using ear buds.
Ditto on what tbparkey said.

AirPods alternative

Hello,
long time iPhone user here, last year i have been using the Airpods with my XS MAX that i sold.
I am looking for some "airpods equivelant" for my Samsung device (i got S10 and Note 10+)...i have unsuccesfully tried the Samsung Galaxy Buds, i am very dissapointed because the call quality which is the most important thing to me is not good at all, cant even compare it to the airpods...
So, what bluetooth would you recommend for everyday use, with good call quality so i can talk ?? I wouldn't like something like the old style bluetooth like Plantronics etc, i am looking for something fresh like Airpods, Galaxy Buds etc style

I second this if call quality is your #1 reason. Excellent sound quality and the fact they stay in your ears even during the harshest of exercises is an excellent bonus.
I've had mine for almost a year and I can't complain about them, although the Elite 75t just got announced (will be out next month for $199; the 75t's are 20% smaller with 2 more hours (7.5 hours vs 5.5 hours) of battery life are the biggest differences).
Why not just keeping using your AirPods? I go back and forth between my S10+ and iPhone X regularly without any issues. From what I've seen, the AirPods pretty much outperform any alternatives in the same class.

Question Terribly tinny and imbalanced sound?

I noticed that the sound quality of the built-in speakers is... terrible... to be putting it mildly. Initially I thought there was just a lot of bass but during calls the sound is very "sharp" but not in a good way, more like hurting my ears piercing. When I'm playing videos or music, not only is the top speaker at most half of the lower speaker's volume, but the overall experience is like the phone was dropped into a tin can. I already tried Wavelet to balance the speakers but the sound quality still is abysmal. My 3.5 year-old S9+ outperforms the 6Pro by far. The little things that bother me with this phone keep adding up and I'm not sure how many more I can take. At least the call quality should be OK, right?
.... Hopefully it ain't anything wrong with your device but I definitely don't have such an issue. I think the sound is great. Honestly I'm kind of impressed at how well the top speaker sounds yet I can barely even see the speaker based on how seamless the screen goes into the frame at the top.
Is it the best sound of any smart phone... No I'm sure it's not. Is it better than my pixel 4XL which had great sound to me, Yes. They are actually the same loudness yet the 6 pro sound is clearer at full volume. I understand that sound is subjective however I would have to 1000% disagree with you.

So there might be something wrong with the device? The sound is basically like a 48 kbit MP3 file
EDIT: Maybe I'll head over to Best Buy this weekend to talk to the folks there and get a replacement if necessary.

I have no complaints about the sound from mine. Nothing like you've described. I do hope that you get it worked out.
In developer settings you can change the stereo balance if you need to.

Thank you! I'll let y'all know
ironically a semi audiophile on reddit did a full on rant today how the audio had too much bass
meanwhile reviews say the speakers sound good and have actual bass for once but the mids/high increase the higher the volume gets
honestly these are very good sounding speakers for a smartphone especially when i compare to my galaxy note 9
For me the speakers are great, I have compared the sound with the iphone 13 and I have to say the pixels are better, at least for me. I know that for some they have too much bass, but for me it is perfect

I don't know how good the S9+ sounds, never had one. What I can tell is that the P6 Pro sounds good, it has a slight imbalance between top and bottom, but in terms of clarity and bass, it's a good sounding phone speaker. So either your expectations are extraodinary, or your device is defective. Best go to the place where you bought it and ask that the store rep compares the sound of your phone to one that they have on display, that way you can quickly find out if your device has a defect.
Thank you all! Is there a good app or sound piece that I can use to test?

I honestly felt the same way comparing the 6P to my 2 XL. the 6P sounds rather flat and unbalanced. Much prefer the older device.

Wow really? You have them side by side and compared? I ask because my 4 XL was definitely better than my 2 XL and the 6 Pro is definitely louder and has more range than my 4 XL at all volume increments. I agree it's ever so slightly louder on the bottom speaker than the ear piece one but it's not horrible.

Yeah in your home or reasonably quieter area than Best Buy, the difference is very noticeable. I keep all my sound volumes a little lower than my 4 XL settings because it's that much louder.

Question Bluetooth Audio Quality (Headphones)

Curious as to your thoughts on Bluetooth audio quality on the new Pixels? Pro and non-pro (I have the 6 pro)
I have read a variety of issues elsewhere from poor AAC to LDAC only supporting the 330 option etc. I have B&W PX7s, Sony WF4s and Bose NC700s. It is hard to put my finger on it but my overall feeling is that for all 3 of them the sound quality from the Pixel is sub-par. The PX7s and WF4s sound better on my older Samsung S20 and the Bose sound way better on my iPhone (yes I have a lot of phones!) The PX7s use APTX-HD which should be fixed and ther S20 only supports standard APTX too.
My testing has not been scientific and I could be wrong but I am just getting the sense that something is not quite right on the Bluetooth side, curious as to how other Pixel 6 owners feel?
Have you tried playing with developers settings regarding Bluetooth? I was scrolling through them this morning and saw some options
I had a tweak with the LDAC settings but they never stick. Not much you can do for APTX.
I use Soundcore Liberty 2 on mine and think it sounds lovely, that said i am of an age where you're half deaf to start with.
Have the Anker Life Q35 here. On my Oneplus 6T the sound was VERY tight, crisp and clear with LDAC. On my P6P it sounds a bit muddy. Haven't tried any other pairs yet but the last few Pixels I have played eith all had Bluetooth "struggles" I would say.
