LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 9 (Pie), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. You will need to provide your own Google Applications package (gapps). LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
Base source code is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to the project, please visit our Gerrit Code Review.
GPL compliance:
Device tree source code: LineageOS/android_device_xiaomi_gemini
Kernel source code: LineageOS/android_kernel_xiaomi_msm8996
Broken / not yet supported:
Something must be broken, right?
Working:
Camera (and flashlight)
WiFi
NFC
Bluetooth
ANT+
Telephony (Calls and Data)
Audio (Record and Playback)
Video Playback
Sensors
GPS
Compatibility:
Compatible with all Xiaomi Mi 5 variants (32GB / 64GB / 128GB). Xiaomi Mi 5S and 5S Plus are not supported.
Builds are based off the Xiaomi's Android 8.0 firmware with proprietary blobs from MIUI 8.5.10 dev package.
Downloads:
Official download links
Notice:
No custom kernels are supported in this thread. Only stock kernel and official builds will be supported. No bug reports if that's not the case.
Installation:
Reboot to recovery (TWRP recovery for Mi 5 - Direct link)
Format /system, /data and /cache
Install LineageOS zip package
Install [optional] the LineageOS su addon to get root (there are obviously other root methods, but this is the recommended one as it survives to OTA updates)
Install [optional] a Google Apps package of your choice (Open GApps is advisable, but stock and super variants are not recommended!!!)
Important notes:
Current minimal * required * firmware version is MIUI 8.8.30 Global dev, otherwise installation will fail. Download the latest dev fastboot package directly from Xiaomi and flash it prior to installing LineageOS or, alternatively, download and install one of the latest custom packages containing firmware only - direct link (at your own risk).
GApps can only be flashed on clean installs.
Formatting data (all user data is wiped, including internal storage) is a must if MIUI was previously installed and device was encrypted.
Credits & collaborations:
This work is due to efforts from Mi5Devs founding members (@h2o64 and me) that did the full device bring-up. Huge thanks to @deovferreira for all the help during the kernel bring-up after source code dropped. Last but not least, pleasure having @luca020400 and @LuK1337 onboard since the bring-up of the whole Xiaomi 8996 family.
Finally, all LineageOS team would like to thank everyone involved in helping with testing, coding, debugging & documenting! Enjoy!

You have to wipe data system

For me stock keyboard is crashing while swiping to write on every app, installed Google Keyboard and swiping is working correctly. I don't know if somebody else is having this issue, I'd attach a logcat file, but the device is not recognised with adb, while I can transfer data and so on... while on twrp recovery adb is working fine.

EAS or HMP kernel here?

I'm impressed you guys already made this, as always ?? I'm unable to try it out right now but please give an update on battery life etc once someone has a little bit of stats. Great work!

Some notes due to recurring questions:
Camera OIS can be recalibrated, if needed, with the following app: https://github.com/dobragab/Mi5CameraCalibrate.
Devices assembled with LGD panels may have less responsive hardware keys (recents and back) due to old touchscreen drivers released by Xiaomi. The workaround at the moment is to enable on-screen buttons and wait for more updated drivers in the next kernel source code release.
QC3.0 is not fully working and will be fixed when the next kernel source code drops.
So soon we have got cm13 official and cm14 almost stable...
thanks bgcngm and Mi5Devs team...
There we go. Too late? Could be, but we got there, in the best way we could. Mi5Devs always leading.
nice to see cm 14 for mi5 well be getting my phone soon ....thanks for ur hard work
One important note again: this is the one and only official support thread for CM-14.1 development.
Nice . At last mi5 got CM14.1 .
Btw how about CM13 ?
Is it still got updated when this CM14.1 become Official ?
Once Mi 5 moves to CM-14.1 official nightlies, CM-13.0 nigthlies will stop. That's what happens with all CM official devices.
Downloading and creating backups. As soon as i flash it, ill edit. Thanks for your work.
First of all a huge thanks to @bgcngm and mi5 devs for bringing cm-14.1 to mi5 and secondly about the camera broken stuff, are we using hal1 or hal3 camera, because when i checked the git for oneplus 3 they too had problems with hal3, hence they shifted back to hal1.

Camera is working apparently, but with 3rd party apps. It's just Snap that is force closing, but should be fixed in CM sources soon enough.
Just a warning, only video recording is not working.
i had a post on CyanogenMod if anyone would do this i would really donate and you did im going to donate with 10$ For now, and i promise i will do so more and more when this keeps growing, and any tests needed or any work needed to be done to help you develop it more im available here for you.

I think magisk work, test and report here and if you can tell me your SOT in this rom or a little review ?
One more thing. I'm not sure how it works, so maybe it's a stupid question.
The Mi Note 2 is not a Treble enabled/supported device, but we can active it with this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-note-2/development/project-treble-mi-note-2-t3784538
Since I'll change the rom, if I'll install this first, my phone will be treble enabled forever? Or the phone lost this ability if i flash an other rom?
I think Your phone lost treble because this is not a Treble enabled rom and a clean Install is always recommanded when you upgrade your os ?
If you would a good and argued answer ask @Psy_Man for treble, he have a better knowledge about treble.

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 11 (R), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

Nothing (?)
Working:
Camera (and flashlight)
WiFi
NFC
Bluetooth
Telephony (Calls and Data), including VoLTE
Audio (Record and Playback)
Video Playback
Sensors
GPS
HW crypto (FDE)
Compatibility:
Compatible with all Xiaomi Mi 5 variants (32GB / 64GB / 128GB). Xiaomi Mi 5S and 5S Plus are not supported.Builds are based off the Xiaomi's Android 8.0 firmware with proprietary blobs from MIUI V10.2.2.0.OAAMIXM global stable package.
Downloads:
Official download links
Notice:
No custom kernels are supported in this thread. Only stock kernel and official builds will be supported. No bug reports if that's not the case.
Installation:
Reboot to recovery (TWRP recovery for Mi 5 - Direct link)
Format /system, /data and /cache
Install LineageOS zip package
Install [optional] a Google Apps package of your choice (Open GApps is advisable, but stock and super variants are not recommended!!!)
Important notes:
Current minimal * required * firmware version is MIUI V10.2.2.0.OAAMIXM global stable, otherwise installation will fail. Download the latest dev fastboot package directly from Xiaomi and flash it prior to installing LineageOS or, alternatively, download and install one of the latest custom packages containing firmware only (at your own risk).
Enjoy!

...and there we go again. Keep in mind that this is still beta. There are some features left to port.
Booting now!
Thank you
I'm going to cry.
5 LineageOS versions!? You are a saint.

You are insane thank you so much. I hope it will become official release.

Yes
Twrp is gone after flashing this rom. I've had a few restarts while connected to the wifi, especially when connected to wifi but no internet. Other than these everything seems fine.
Thanks you so much for supporting the mi5 community.
Anyone having issues with bluetooth? It refuses to enable on a clean install here.

Quite impressive for being early builds!
I really love the visual and usability enhancements
Also I can confirm GPS has a very quick lock.
The only deal-breaker for using this as a daily driver is that background apps, like Instagram and Whatsapp, keep draining the battery.
From 100% to 39% with 5 min of screen on + 2 hours of background activity.
I'm sure doze and the battery optimizations will be refined asap, just reporting here for other testers to know.
New build is up, mainly to fix Bluetooth.
Does anyone have one of these problems?
1) The 2.4GHz hotspot does not work (enabled, but no the internet).
2) When connected to Wi-Fi, the phone reboots.
it seems the problem with hotspot could be temporarily fixed by turning on wifi then turning on tethering again
The hotspot is broken, 5GHz band always fail and 2.4GHz have no access point
