It works "disable package app" in Tab S 8. 4 MM? - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

In my old S7 I was able to freeze many Samsung apps with excellent results and I was wondering if it is also usable in my Tab S 8.4 with android 6 MM. Can you tell me something?
Regards!

I have been using this version on my T800 10.5" for years with no problems, be careful what you disable though, each app is a different colour so you know which apps are safe to disable.

Thank you, John. I want to ask you 3 more things since it seems that you are one of the few that remain around here. 1 Can I use themes on the tablet ... like? 2 I have been using my second-hand Tab S for 2 weeks and it suffers a reboot when I do not use the battery saving mode, with the saving mode, everything is ok!... why? 3 My tablet is almost 3 years old and I was very scared about the battery, especially the first day I did not get more than 4 hours but based on freezing apps from Samsung and google and only using it to watch movies, Netflix, series, Youtube etcetera, I have managed to get more than 8 hours of screen and once I got to 9 hours ... Today I have 5 hours of screen to 50% watching 2 movies and a series of Netflix ... you think that this indicates that my battery is ok or with a new one would get better consumption?

1: I have never used a theme
2: The saving mode most likely draws less power from the battery`s you tab s, most likely needs a new battery or the battery connection have become loose (very common) on 8.4" does you screen flicker?
3: how long your battery lasts depends on how much power the app is using, the screen brightness and how light the image being shown is.

Yes, my screen suffers those flashes when I do not use the saving mode and then it restarts. The battery correctly measures the percentages without jumping as I have read from other colleagues. I have also read that removing the battery and replacing it in its place can correct these restarts.

Yeah, screen flickering is a bad battery or a bad battery connector (poor connection) many owners have had this problem, especially the 8.4" Tab S
Some Samsung service centres have admitted it`s a bad connector and have installed a more heavy duty version according to one owner, some people have soldered the battery wires directly to the motherboard.
You can try disconnecting and re-connecting the battery, check youtube for a guide.
I have an T800 10.5" 4 years old this November and touch wood no problems.
If you do a search for "flickering screen" you should find lots of thread on the subject.

Thank you very much John, but being a bad connection, why does not it happen using the saving mode? I guess it will be something technical that I do not know but I find it very funny ... I will try to open the tablet to get the battery and then replace it, I hope to be lucky
Soon I will give news if this corrects the restarts. Very kind for all your answers John

Everything has gone perfect. I have frozen all the Samsung bloatware, a total of 150 apps or processes and the tablet works much more smoothly without delays, very smooth with an excellent deep sleep and the best thing is that the restarts and blinks have disappeared in the performance mode ... Thanks for your advice on this vital app ... greetings John

[Q] Newb-ish questions

Hello! I should buy the One X in a few days. There are some things stopping me from buying it though.
1): The battery is 1800MAh,and that lets me think battery life is not so good. Can you guys confirm? Also, the One X battery is Li-Po,so my question now is:
Li-Po 1800MAh > Li-Ion 2100MAh (Galaxy S3 battery)?
2) Battery is not removable. So how will I turn off the phone, for example when it will be stuck in a bootloop?
3) No menu button! Can multitasking be remapped to menu button in Stock or Custom ROMs?
4) Display: Is Super IPS LCD better than SAMOLED (Galaxy S3)?
Thank you in advance, this device is really interesting

Battery life has been great for me but it varies powering down is fine on the 2.0. 5 base you can remap the menu button and I much prefer the one X screen
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
1. Non-issue - it's fine
2. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds - it reboots the phone
3. Non-issue - although it's been changed in the new ROM getting released soon (or go custom to get the leaked version)
4. Very much so - my Dad's S3 is crap compared to my One X screen-wise

1) I know it's a silly question, but can you guys tell me how much battery lasts?
3) Can I remap the multitasking button to menu button into Custom ROMs,or I don't need to?
Also, browser lags on Stock ROM,are these lags gone on custom ROMs?
Thanks again

i can go a day or two without putting the phone on charge and over the last two charge cycles i got about 4hrs screen on time.
yes you can remap the multitasking button on a custom rom..PKMN rom has that feature as far as i know.
browser i do not use stock browser i use chrome or maxthon and no lags what so ever
Ok.. getting more convinced about this device right now. I should buy it tomorrow.
I heard that camera has got a low framerate. I can tell just by looking at this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAJZZlQ8xkw
Is this lag fixed into custom ROMs,for example ARHD 7.1.0 or CyanogenMod 9/AOKP? This would be very annoying to me

Li-Po and Li-Ion having almost same attributes, Li-Po was little stable while discharging and can be reshape after manufactured. That is why it is often to be used on un-swappable battery solutions, vice versa.
3) I found out I'm used it more and more frequent now.
4) Display: yes, I love new technology like AMOLED but it isn't that mature as LCD. Screen on GS3 is exactly enlarge version of itself on G Nexus, and you will spot the diffefences in 1 second.
Thanks for the replies everyone
Keep in mind,I'll have to keep this device for two years minimum,so I wanna make sure all technologies used in this phone are "up-to-date".
I think Galaxy S3's Exynos Quad is better. It has got a 32nm constitution while the Tegra 3 has got a 40nm one.
Tegra 3 has got a Variable Symmetrical Multi-Processing (vSMP)where all cores run at a same speed; Exynos has got a aSMP (Asymmetrical Multi-Processing) where the four cores can run at a variable speed according to how much work they have to do.
The companion core of the Tegra 3 is obviously power-saving,but it has only got a 500MHz frequency,so it is not kinda enough,I don't know.
Also check this. As I said I will keep this phone for a really long time, and when Tegra 4 games will be out will Tegra 3 be able to run them? Also,a lot of things have to get optimized for Tegra 3(see kernel 3.0),but everything can run as it is on Exynos.
Just exposing my ideas,I'm not here to say the One X is worse,so no "don't like the device? gtfo" please,I need to decide which to pick.
Also, can anyone give me a video sample of recording on CM9 or ARHD please
Anyone?
Since the body/looks of the device don't concern you, its down to two things I think:
1)Tegra Games: If Tegra 3 powered games are really important then definitely go for the the HOX no questions asked. And like you said yourself, when tegra4 comes out there might be games that require a tegra4 processor. But there is no solid news on when tegra4 comes out so tegra3 is the best deal when it comes to mobile gaming as of now.
2)Processor:I won't say whats better, have a look at the benchmark comparison that gsmarena.com has done http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s_iii_vs_htc_one_x-review-759p4.php
The companion core from what I can figure is what gives the Int. HOX awesome standby battery times.
Let me explain something this phone costs a lot,so I need to keep it for at least two years. Since I have to keep it for a lot,I need a durable processor. I think next tegra will be available in just some months, while next Exynos will be available much more later,I don't know maybe it's just me. I just need a processor I can keep and use for 2 years.
For example the LG Optimus Dual (Tegra 2) was released just a year ago,and I am not sure it can play smoothly new games now.
Just my two cents, don't be mad at me I just wanna know what you think about my thoughts.
On a different note, anyone can give me a video sample of this device on CM9/AOKP?

to be honest, i think that it's the same with all tech these days, tegra or not.
things get outdated incredibly quickly now, and theyre constantly innovating and creating new features, faster speeds etc.
the tegra 3 will be around for quite some time i think, probably about a year, and by that time, there will be loads of tegra 3 optimized games, and any new tegra 4 ones may well have compatibility for tegra 3 as well (just with lower graphics settings than the t4 - dead trigger is a good example)
Its the sort of climate these days, where if you choose to wait for a device to become cheaper for example, by the time its cheaper theres loads out thats way better anyways and by then of course all the software is designed with the new hardware in mind. you'll never stop waiting! im not doing well at explaining myself but hopefully you get the point.. anyways i think the tegra stuff is much better, as nvidia is pushing for app optimization for tegras, and these will therefore have better graphics, better performance, than the exynos might have with a game/app that isn't optimized.

The Elephone S7 does not have capacitive buttons. You can either use on-screen buttons or the home key. Tapping it once is back, tapping it twice is home. Pressing it once is home, pressing it twice is feature key.

I have it too, but I am not impressed at all right now. Touch screen is ****, software is buggy, it runs slow and camera lenses are screwed up - again!
Let's see what they can fix with software updates. The worst thing is the touch panel. The resolution seems too low. Scrolling is very laggy, accuracy is kinda bad and I also had some ghost touches when I went from the house into the cold. I hope its just the calibration like on a couple of Elephone devices before.
Camera sensor seems good, but as I said, they use a cheap module like on previous phones. The lenses are ****. Pictures are blurred on the lower area. You can check samples here: https://goo.gl/photos/8mchLbuuZAqPqw596
SmartPhonesFan said:

No, modern phones don't have that anymore. With calibration I don't mean that old thing you had on phones years back, where you had to tap on a moving cross. I am talking about the touch panel configuration which is part of the touch IC firmware. This one is a lot more complex and can only be updates with firmware updates, except you got a special tool to write it into the touch controller.
SmartPhonesFan said:
I have checked pictures and they are very good.. I thought they will be even worse.

Well, I told you the sensor is good. Just the lenses are not. Check the landscape shots and look at the bottom of the pictures. You will see heavy blurring there which is caused by bad lenses. Almost all Elephone devices have this and it's a shame they never invest a few cents more into their camera modules. Optics and software optimization are far more important than the camera sensor itself after all.

Nope. At least I don't think so. Demanding that basic stuff works flawlessly doesn't have anything to do with high demands IMHO. I guess having tested more than 200 Chinese phones in my life qualifies me to judge what's good and what's bad, uh?

That actually was the first thing I did. And I am in close contact with Elephone. All bugs and flaws are forwarded to them and I actually get beta builds of the firmware for testing already. Currently running the beta build of the upcoming OTA which should arrive next week. Few bugs have been solved already, but the big ones are still there. The S7 has a long way to go. Just like the P9000 had. Right now it's not suitable for daily use I think. They released it too early. Or their software guys have been too slow. See that in whichever way you want, haha.

@SmartPhonesFan: Calibration won't help with bad configuration. The resolution is too low. @flayer75: 4GB version. The phone right now scores around 5 hours screen-on time at lowest brightness in PC Mark battery test with the CPU profile set to balanced. Not the best for a Helio X20 / 3,000mAh combo.

Got a new firmware build for testing today. Touch panel is a bit more responsive now but still not perfect. System performance is a little better but also not perfect yet. They also fixed a bug which randomly reverted the keyboard back to the default one, wen using a third party keyboard. Good to see them taking care about my bug reports. Let's hope the touch will be fully fixed with the next release!
By the way: If anyone in here owns an Elephone S7 as well, feel free to report bugs here. I will forward it to my contact at Elephone right away.

Thanks for the warm welcome!
I don't have any information regarding the source code yet. I asked my contact, but she doesn't know anything yet but promised to inform me once she does.

ASUS ZenFone 6 AMA (Ask Me Anything)

Hi XDA,
My ZenFone 6 will be arriving in the mail tomorrow, thanks to ASUS USA. I know there's a lot of interest in this device, so if you have any questions feel free to ask them now. I'll look into it for you as soon as I get my device.
As for custom development support, well, stay tuned

I'm very interested to hear about the following things:
- Display quality, brightness, viewing angles in comparison to AMOLED.
- Battery life comparison. Especially with other sd855 phones like the OP7pro
- How bad is the low light performance of the camera? I'm very impressed with video performance and regular shots.
- ZenUI. Is it any faster? Any smoother? Or does it just look like stock Android and the similarities end there? How slow or laggy is it compared to the OP7pro?
Can u pls extract the stock apps of new zen ui 6.0 which can work without root
Ex: File Manager, Clock etc
Confirm the Zenfone 6 can accommodate two SIM cards and a Micro SD card.
Does zenfone 6 support dual GPS frequency like some xiaomi devices ?

You mentioned thanks to ASUS USA...? Did you order in USA? If so, which variant are you receiving? Where did you order and what carrier are you on? Details please.
Hi,
thank you for that, especially since there are a lot unknown details about that phone or OS.
I have a few questions:
1. Can you customize the Notification LED colors (for example white for emails, blue for fb, green for whatsapp)?
2. Is there any kind of private Gallery? I am not talking about hidden files accessible from the file maaager, but the gallery/messaging (I have found that screen on the internet). On MIUI you just swipe down screen with visible messages/photo albums, then it requests a passwords and displays the protected content along the others.

3. Have you considered installing GCam inistead stock photo software? Or the pre-installed is good enough?
4. Have you noticed any not so obvious features of ZEN UI 6?
Best regards,
Dominik
May you confirm that is this device only support USB2.0? and also is it still support LDAC? Thanks!
Is Always On Display possible?
How is the headphone jack output for headphones and how do the dual stereo speakers sound?
I read that the camera module rattles when the phone vibration motor is activated? The same reviewer said that the phone module gets very hot when using it in a video chat session. Can you confirm or deny any of these things?
Can you confirm LTE bands? Android Police said it had a hard time connecting to AT&T's LTE.
Which carrier will you be using it with?
Already brought up but I'm curious how the display compares to other LCD displays. Reviews seem to have it pinned as worse than other highend LCD phones like the Mate 20, wondering if it's a considerable difference.
Also very interested in the 3.5mm quality, thanks.
Oh and how is the balance of the stereo speaker with the weaker top speaker? Are Left and Right balanced 50/50? Concerned left audio will be overpowered by the right for music/video where instruments/sounds are spilt.

I'm interested in this too. I'm not familiar with any of ASUS other phones - were they USA ATT compatible? If so, I'm sure this one would be the same.
What's the haptics like on it, are they pants or actually decent?
Please shows more software, I like this new ZenUI that looks clean as AOSP. Every review of this smartphone people only show the camera, it's so tiring...
Have only had it a few minutes after unboxing it. Will answer some of the easier stuff first.

No, I got it from ASUS' US PR. This is the Midnight Black model with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage.

1: No LED customization.
2: Nope. You can hide albums from view in the Gallery app, but that's just for organization. They're easily accessible and not password protected. The default messaging app is Google's Messages.
3: For the initial review, no. Perhaps after as a follow-up.
4: The screen recorder lets you record the internal system audio. Haven't seen that mentioned anywhere yet.

Haptics are...not that good. Definitely not the worst I've ever felt, but it's nowhere on the level of the OP7 Pro/Pixel 3 where you can *feel* the area behind where you're tapping vibrate, like when typing in Gboard. Haptic feedback when typing isn't that bad, but when the whole phone vibrates for a notification you can hear the motor and really feel the force of the shake. I made a simple Tasker action to vibrate the phone for 500ms and compared it between the ZF6 and OP7 Pro just to get a feel for it.

Camera module rattling: Haven't noticed it. To test, I set Tasker to vibrate the phone for a good second after opening the front camera. Heat: need to test for more.

Asus US PR as in Puerto Rico? You're also mentioning you're going to use it on TMobile towers so I am wondering if it is possible for me to purchase it yet in the United States? Please provide a link if you can.
As for doing more for speccing out the device you can go to KiMovil.com and check there. I can see that it should work better on TMobile than AT&T.
One more thing, what was total cost with everything included?

Unlocking Bootloader on SM-N975U (Qualcomm)

Hey there!
Is there any possible way to unlock the bootloader on my Note 10+ or am I completely screwed.
I've tried everything and I can't get the OEM Unlock Feature to appear. Due to updates on my phone is it just not possible due to security?
Thanks!
I would just leave it be. I have two stock N10+'s, one running on 9, the newest on 10. Both will likely remain on that firmware for their lifespan. Both run very well but are heavily optimized including a package disabler. They are very stable, fast and secure. The Pie one's current load will be 2 yo in June with minimal maintenance. That's what they are capable of.
I have very little to gain by rooting and the Snapdragon variant is notoriously hard to root.
Consider what's to gain vs what's to lose.
Not just the Knox features, which I don't use, but the device itself could be bricked. It will easily last another 2+ years* with the only repairs being a battery replacement, and maybe a C port PCB.
My oldest Note is almost 2.5 yo and shows no wear at all, the display is 100% on this heavily used device.
*a good case is mandatory or it will get destroyed. The only thing they like to do more than corner hit (the spen corner is the favorite drop contact point) when dropped is face plant

It can be daunting at first.
It needs optimizing but many of the Samsung apks especially system ones serve a purpose and use little or no resources unless needed.
The Google apps are some of the worst offenders.
Use the Galaxy Goodlock family of apps to help customize it. Pick a free Galaxy store theme, icon pack and then set whatever wallpaper you want.
This what my N10+'s look like. Note the lack of junk at the top, that's Quickstar doing most of that. One Handed Operation plus gesture switches on the sides. The N10+ has lots of buried features and Galaxy add ons. Get Sound Assistant to increase volume increments up to 100.

I understand where you are coming from but that is not the question here. Yes almost all people can use a device fine without access to the bootloader. But for developers this is something that is very useful. Right now, yeah it seems like we are screwed. This is the first and last device I will purchase from Samsung. The bigger point here is that we can't even control the device that we own. I was looking to install a different distro and am unable to. It's not Samsung's place to say how we use our hardware. If it is touted as 'security' then fine, but give people a way to opt-out. If anything, it's to maintain the NSA's backdoor or other 'national security' code. Google devices at least provide straight forward instruction on how to access and flash different operating systems or distros of android.

Still worth it in 2023 ??

Hello everyone,
I'd really like to buy this phone, I know it's about 4 years old.
I have some questions about the compatibility with different apps.
Does the Nova Launcher works on this ? I don't care about Gestures ....
What about the YouTube Vanced and AoD Notify ?
Are there some custom ROMs ?
What are the cons right now, here in Europe ( Germany ) with this mobile phone ?
I do not care about 5G. 4G should be more than enough for me.
Any advices are welcome, thank you
Get the Note 10+ instead; better specs, more ram and up 1tb expandable storage. The Exynos variants can be rooted but the Snapdragon variants are faster. Excellent build quality and it's a running machine.
6 GB ram and 128 GB memory should be okay for me

Never can have too much ram or storage, 256/12gb is the base model. One of the best displays out there. Best display to bezel ratio of anything out there. Very good cams.
Personally I take One UI over Nova; faster, capable, more efficient and very stable.
Only possible deficiency is no 3.5mm jack.
No variable refresh rate and ones with no 5G get very good SOT once optimized. These will run extremely well stock and as such the UI is very customizable.

Nova works, at least on global version.
I bought a second hand mate 20x after a Xiaomi mi mix, and it's the best choice for sure. There is no other screen like this. And everything works all right, all the software, cameras, battery for 2 days long... It's unbeatable in every way.
even with foldables you get a smaller video in 16:9 ratio and you always enjoy the full screen.
i have a book case and it's like a foldable but without the problems of battery, breakable, etc

Vanced YouTube works as well. FNG gestures works perfect without root.
I can't root or install any different firmware. I thought I was going to miss it from my Xiaomi mi mix, but not so much. I just can't use Titanium backup and can't get rid of all the ads, but I can use dns.adguard.com as a private DNS and it avoids quite some ads.
It's running EMUI 12 and Huawei is still updating its kernel...
Even if I could spend 2000€ in another phone and 20x would cost the same I would choose 20x any time just for the aspect ratio and big unbeatable screen, speakers, robustness and battery optimization.

I still rock mine with long battery life of 7 - 9 days under medium use.
My global phone at one point had Nova launcher but eventually it was uninstalled because Nova eats away at battery. Besides, the phone is faster and snappier without it.
Vanced still works on it which is crazy cool.
For installing custom roms, downgrading to 9.0/9.1 is a necessity. But doing so may render newer apps inoperable. Personally, EMUI 12 is better than any version before it - even though its bootloader is locked and installing custom roms is a no no.
Cons for Germany? I cant say since I'm not in Europe.
The only 2 idiotic annoyances with the phone are: 1) auto brightness is enabled at startup and 2) notifications to update to network time. Although the notifications dont happen a lot theyre still annoying. Had there been none of these issues, the phone would be perfect.
At one point, I was thinking of selling it and buying the Note 20 ultra which can be upgraded to One UI 5.1, a very nice UI upgrade touch. But in the end I found myself keeping my 20x because of its wide aspect ratio (which unfortunately phone makers have abandoned as I'm still scratching my head over that) and bigger screen even though the Note 20 Ultra may have sharper resolution. However, if one day my 20x does become broken I will not buy another 20x. Instead I'll buy the N20U.
If you have more questions let me know.

Appreciate that. I have 2 questions..
1) If you could get the Note 20 Ultra brand new in exchange for the 20x would you exchange it?
2) I keep getting notifications on "network time unavailable" to enable location. How do I disable this annoying notification?
1) Not even a S23 Ultra. Why? Mainly because I'd lose almost 1cm width and 1cm height of screen with the same weight. I'm sure the battery wouldn't last as long, the fingerprint wouldn't work as well, and most probably the UI would be a little faster with 120Hz but again, with a lot of battery drain, I'd miss the 3.5 audio jack and the super speakers from the Mate 20X. I'm not a gamer, but gaming would be something that probably would run faster in the S23 Ultra compared to the Mate 20X. I don't use a Stylus. Phone camera sensors are limited by their size. For the rest I'm sure there is no real gain. Whatsapp, Youtube and Chrome are my main usage of the phone and all I need is the biggest screen and better sound as possible.
2) No clue

Got to say you're wrong about the battery comparison. The s23 ultra"s battery greatly exceeds the one in the 20x by far.
Maybe...
