Xiaomi.eu vs Global dev, gcam and some other questions - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Questions & Answers

Hello everyone,
I am currently on lastest global developer ROM (MIUI 10), without twrp/root.
I would like to know, if flashing Xiaomi.eu-ROM (or is there something better?) would be worth it?
Is the ROM faster, "better", more battery friendly?
Are there advantages if you compare it to global dev ROM?
Or is stock android even better in terms of battery life, speed?
Also, I would like to flash gcam.
Is the gcam worth it? Or are the photos as good as the photos taken with miui cam?
Would you suggest me to install the gcam?
Or is the A2 camera even better? I've just read something about that.
Also, is there any way of getting rid of all those subfolders, that are created with the Portrait mode?
Saving only the bookeh-image into the Camera-folder would be great too.
I saw some GCam-Tool app, but I dont know if it works as it should, since I dont have the gcam yet.
And one thing more.
If I decide to Flash twrp/root..
I just have to Flash twrp via fastboot, boot into twrp and Flash supersu and that's it?
Also, is magisk "better" than supersu? Are there any benefits of having magisk than supersu?
I always had supersu, thats why Im asking.
Aand, if I decide to just root my phone, do I lose the OTA updates on global dev?
Big thanks.

bump.

I know the devs worked hard on it and for some it's a great ROM however for me freedom is dog ****
Never remove the icluded screenprotector. Just dont and avoid reading any news or user experience with screenprotection/ tempered glass. You will regret removing it.
Dont forget to make a backup before changing your rom also backup imei
Till aospa 7.0 is out use aicp nougat rom + latest arm64 7.0 pico gapps from opengapps you can also use ex kernel cm variant for nougat format data/cache to f2fs use viperatmos 5.5 if you use included root change selinux to permissive for viper to work. use nova launcher, neutron music player and buy powerbeats 2 and enjoy.
@Ahmed rahi thanks, i will remember that XD @nadejo so i will keep this screenprotector as u said and thanks for that tip with backup IMEI. About this headphones i will still use my HyperX Cloud but anyway thanks for your advice
I see it hasn't been mentioned yet: no custom ROM achieves the same camera quality as OOS. (there is OOS camera port, but some features don't work well)
That's probably the main reason people (including me) use FreedomOS - it's just debloated OOS, so camera is also the same.
Don't know what's Ahmed rahi's issue with it, but the ROM really isn't any worse or better than stock OOS, just debloated. And I'd say OOS is already a pretty decent ROM ?

Gcam on redmi note 5 global pie

hello,
after pie update gcam working on front camera also...
but in stock kernel.
so i use mokee os because it use stock code gcam also work on this rom.
is there anyone who knows kernel developer and talk with them about it...i tried but no one noticed...
1- pm developers for random questions like "problems with gcam" is a very bad idea, they will probably block (Ignore if you have luck) you, they don't really care about that, trust me.
2- The camera works because he extracted/reverse-engineered some parts of the stock pie kernel.
Wait for Miui stable Pie and the new kernel sources, the problems will be solved.

Nice.. i would be curious if anyone can extract the kernel so we can use it on other roms.. currently no kernel works with front gcam hdr ,they just add worthless stuff and placebo effects that no one cares about and somehow performance and battery is still better in stock miui

New Oneplus Owner... Where to Start?

Hey everyone, just got my 7T. I've heard great things about Oxygen, and it seems like everything is optimized. I'm just not sure where to go from here. I'm coming from a LeEco LE Pro 3, and the ROM path has been the only option (android 6 was the last official version for that phone, and we have 10 via ROM now). Is there any reason to try a different ROM on this phone? What about different kernels? Is there any good reason to leave stock? I'll definitely root my phone, but I'm not sure about the kernel/ROM changes.
I appreciate your input!

I like Oxygen very much and flashed arters kernel only for better battery life. I tried the custom ROMs too, but battery wasn't that good. If you are happy with Oxy stay on it. If you need some more feature, take a custom rom. It depends always on what you want and what you like.
I've always been an AOSP guy, but OOS on 7T is good. all you customization you need get be added through gravitybox, renovate ICE. Other than always on display, I don't see what aosp can offer on top of OOS. Last I tried, AOSP had some auto brightness and fingerprint issue. with OOS you still have face unlock which AOSP don't. you can also add horizon lights with renovate ICE.
You'll know if you will like OOS or not.
If you plan on going the ROM route, try Omni or Tresk. I'm currently running Tresk and it's excellent! Better battery than OOS, AOD, better theming, and overall cleaner "Google" interface.

Maybe with Stock OOS, but you will definitely get better battery results with OOS + arters kernel. Even idle drain is less with it. This time Oxygen is very hard to beat.
Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to stick to stock for now and try the custom kernel for better battery life.

I have not tried this combination. Too many deal breakers for me with OOS so I jumped quickly.
I advice you to flash OxygenOS Open beta 3. It's a bit more stable for my 7T.
OxygenOS already feels like a custom rom, so I don't really feel the need to flash 3rd party roms.

Is there any installation how-to for Tresk? I didn`t find anywhere on their site, beside download link and wonder why there's no topic for Tresk in OP7T section?
Everything works fine ?
Thanks.

Flashing steps for OnePlus 7T:
(For the first time installation)
Things you will need:
Payload Dumper
https://t.me/treskmod/190469
Bat file that wipes and flashes to both sides on initial install
https://t.me/treskmod/195379
Current Stable HD65AA Firmware on both sides, it has been reported that BA (EU) firmware has issues with FP.
- local upgrade or flash OOS firmware to side A
- reboot to OOS
- local upgrade or flash OOS firmware to side B
- reboot to bootloader
- dump latest treskmod payload.bin using payload dumper
- place the bat file in your output directory, or wherever you decide to keep images
- run the bat (this will wipe, a wipe is necessary on initial installation coming from OOS, after that, just OTA)
the bat file can be modified to suit any particular need.
- reboot to treskmod and enjoy
- root
- either wait for me to to post a patched boot.img, which you can then "fastboot boot nameofimage.img" in fastboot mode, then patch your own, or just make your own patched boot with magisk manager. (make sure preserve avb and preserve encryption are both checked)
- when taking an OTA, once its finished, don't reboot, and have magisk patch the inactive slot, then reboot.

Are you sure? I've been warp charging just fine on Tresk. But I am using Weeb kernel.
I have the US variant of the 7T. Can I flash the beta for India or Global? It doesn't look like the US beta has been updated.

Global ist ok. Don't know about India.
I used to switch between different ROMS and Kernels but latest oxygen + adaway is pretty close to perfection.

Laggy front cam viewfinder for gcam on an unrooted stock Redmi Note 5 Ai (global)

I think the reason for this is because the global variant has a different sensor for the front cam. I read somewhere before that I need to flash something to fix this. How do I do this exactly?
Do you have problems in stock rom? That's new.
If you are talking about custom roms you only need the recovery (and you already have it because you have needed it to install the rom).
Check the pixel experience thread because the other day I put the file you need.

I'm looking now how to install a custom recovery. Do I just have to flash only the file you linked and nothing else? Also, I don't have a problem with my stock rom.
Flash evolution x Rom there you have gcam working fine and patch for global version. I have all this and front camera looking so much better that miui.

Is there a custom rom similar to miui and that also fixes all the gcam-related problems? I don't want to ditch miui because I really like it because of features like dual apps, second space, app locker, native scrolling screenshot, etc.

Question Camera quality and GPS/GNSS on custom ROMs

I've read that image stabilization isn't working in some custom ROMs. Is there any custom ROM with the camera working well? I'm interested in a de-Googled ROM (ArrowOS vanilla seems to be the only option), or at least a de-bloated ROM, maybe even xiaomi.eu, but I don't want to lose the quality of the camera nor the GNSS/GPS precision (I bought this phone because of the dual-band GNSS). In general, I don't use any Google apps, from a data privacy motivation, though I guess GCam would be okay because I wouldn't give it network access. If I have to use Magisk, that's okay. My 115GNE is on stock MIUI 13.0.2 Global stable at the moment. I prefer solutions that allow easy OTA updating, but if that's not possible, please mention it. Thanks for your attention!
