If the Mate SE counts I have this model... which is the 7X. I would like to see the 8X in the US and pass this SE(7X) to my kid. unlocked but loader for roms please!? I am dipping my feet into the affordable mid range phones - on Amazon in the USA this was affordable and had more storage built in compared to Moto and Nokia. I am interested in seeing how the 8x camera compares, and interested in seeing how the 710 chipset speed compares to last year's model. from the reports I have read I am expecting an incremental update from the 7X/SE, and hope the processor is faster.

I'm currently on Honor 7x,
Almost everything I needed was present in Honor 7x and the price range made me buy the phone immediately.
My check list for features before buying Honor 7x are
18:9 Display ✓
Good Camera with wide aperture ( used to be a fan of GCams Lens blur ) - Dual Cameras ✓
arm64 architecture ✓
Stereo Speakers
Ram Management ✓
Stock Android ( I like EMUI now because of its Total Customisability - ✓)
Treble Supported Device ✓
Latest Android OS ✓
A device with two Major OS Updates
Budget Friendly ✓
As most of my requirements are satisfied by Honor 7x I bought a Honor 7x .But I don't like the decision of closing the bootloader unlock page as it would make the treble not do useful feature .I expected Treble support would be make the updates from the OEM faster too but it's not the case here .
What I expect from next X - Series phone ( or my next phone )
?
Dual 4G Support
Latest Android OS
ATLEAST TWO MAJOR ANDROID UPDATES
Stereo Speakers
Better Selfie Camera

Honor 8X give away
Hi,
Hey guys, would you consider also giving away a phone to someone who does NOT already have an Honor phone? Someone who has been following the brand keenly and passionately for a long time but cannot get his hands on one because it is not available in the country.

I have had this 6X for such a long time (almost 2 years). I chose it because Honor was promising the most for my money. They delivered, never had any complaints.
Sadly its battery is dying too quikly nowadays so its time for the big battery 8X!!! Besides i expect it to be the premium budget phone it has always been.
I want my friends to say: "Why the hell did I pay 1000€ for my iPhone?"

I've got an Honor 6x, since last March (2017).
I got this phone because I was sick and tired of paying a monthly contract with the big US phone companies and only having 2 or 3 options. Those options were always overpriced and the same year in and year out. The Honor 6x at the time offered the best specs for an unlocked phone and for the price. The design premium as well. It has lasted much longer than my past Samsung phones in terms of performance and battery life. Still going strong.
My expectations for Honor 8x are premium design and features, larger screen, and similar pricing to previous Honor phones. They are truly the best for the price, no matter what the US government has to say!

i used honor 7X before honor 10 released , it's the first honor phone with full-view display with pirce below €250
as for honor 8X, it has advantage on the design and screen , also screen to body ratio ups to 91%, i will definitely buy one for father if it's price under €300.

Started with Honor 4X and continued all the way using 6X and 7X till Honor 10 really love the build, battery and camera quality of the devices.
In 4X I liked the battery and camera those were the days where smart phone mobiles are being penetrated to India and 4X gave good value for money its battery used to last more than a day and camera with 16MP gave good photographs for its range.
It's still rocking and easy to use so gave it to my dad to use it.
6X has a Smart Dual Lens Camera which helped to capture good memories its has a solid build and battery life was good it was one of the leading model in the budget segment. It is getting two year plus monthly software updates. It has got Oreo beta in china hoping it to be rolled out in India. It was good customizable device and easy to hold in Hand.
7X's full-view display and screen to body ratio where its plus point for that prize segment. Used it only a few days before giving it to my cousin and upgrading to Honor 10. But like the build and color of the phone.
I have three expectation for the 8X those are wireless charging, front facing speakers and better optimized camera modes . As the other current models have dual Volte, and GPU Turbo I am sure they will be included in this model.

I'm currently rocking the Honor 7x and have been thoroughly enjoying the experience. Aside from some bootloader unlock issues, it's got almost everything. Having come from a BLU phone it's been a night-and-day difference! I chose the 7x mostly because after literal months of looking around at all sorts of stuff from Xiaomi, Elephone, etc. I found this to be the best bang for my buck by far In a perfect world the honor 8x would be very similar to the 7x but would include some extra features that are missing from the 7x(no matter how arbitrary they may be). I'd love to see the 8x ship with NFC. With GPU Turbo coming shortly the 8x definitely needs something a bit beefier than the Kirin 659, and with that save on cost by having a simpler camera setup! Gamers aren't generally photographers. Gorilla Glass 4+ would be a plus as well! Android Pie out of the box if possible as well. I'd love AMOLED but that would increase the price significantly and hurt the price-to-performance that we're all here for. 5Ghz WiFi is also something that's been missing from my last 3 budget phones and would be a nice addition. I could take or leave USB-C; The increased power output doesn't really make any difference when devices can only charge so quickly. Fast charge technologies render that aspect of USB-C irrelevant and the quicker data speeds? Let's be honest nobody is transferring that much data or in that much of a hurry when they are. This having been said, fast charge is the #1 feature I miss between my BLOX2 and my H7x. My appreciation to anyone who has read this rant Good luck to all and sincere congratulations to the winner!!

I used the Honor 7x for a short time, I liked ergonomics and customization and missed gyroscope but in general it´s a very good device.

Hi,
I've used a Honor 6X in the past for it’s Smart Dual Lens Camera.
Now I'm expecting a Honor 8x with a way better camera, a better screen resolution, android 8 and some AI powers...
!? The next winner could be me !?

1-Why i chose the Honor 7x?Economy,beautiful and super fast.
2-Expectations?Better speakers and sound.
3-And finally, my awesome phone..

I have an Honor 7X. I chose this over other phones in this price because of the 18:9 display, camera quality, colour and the build quality.
I expect Honor 8X to have a better GPU, same or lesser price, bigger battery (because the screen is larger) and to get regular software updates.

Hello, I'm a big fan of Honor and had has 2 phone from you guys. The phone I'm using right now is the last year model, the Honor 7x and let me tell you, I am LOVING It!!!
What led me to choose the 7x is because I have had the 6x since 2017 and wanted an upgrade, plus my sister doesn't have a good phone so I wanted to give mine to her.
Upon using it, I fell In love with the phone, And let me tell you this bad boy can fit so much in it. I mean you got the fingerprint scanner, 16MP camera so everything you take is a guarantee high quality (unless you have shaky hands like me.). You got a rocking processor that fast and reliable, and if you're into game like Pubg it can handle that too. And that sweet battery life can last this baby for the whole day.
Last but not least, and this is one of the best feature I think any phone can have is the the theme option. Not like any theme option you have on other, the theme you apply on this one actually change the whole interface, which make your phone always feel brand new. I like how one day my phone could be an One plus, the next day it could be a iPhone X, or an Samsung Galaxy S9. The possibilities are endless.
I expect the Honor 8x to be faster, more beautiful with the notch. Become more modern with the A.I feature and being able to use 5GHZ is a huge plus in my area. And have I mentioned the 20MP camera? ? Also 6.5 is a huge display which can make everything more easy to see, and don't let me started on gaming and watching movies. Also with a big battery size like that I can play heavy game and won't have to worry about ran out of battery in the middle of the day.

Hey, I'm currently on the Honor 9 Lite not an X but i hope this counts(its pretty close to 7X).
Currently the phone has a 3000 mAH battery but performs good.
The cpu (kirin 659 ) is good but the GPU to be frank, sucks.
The camera performs good in good lighing but when it gets dark thing get very bad.
Currently has EMUI 8, bt would love to get EMUI 9.
I chose this over Asus ZenfoneMaxProM1 beacuse of the Cameras and beautiful design.
Expectations:
*A good battery life.
*Good CPU and GPU for gaming.
*Cameras that can handle different lighting situations well.
*EMUI 9 and GPU Turbo updates.
*Good build(metal preferred).
*An FHD+ screen(most obiously its there).
*Waterdrop Notch.
*4G and Volte(Duh..)
*Budget friendly.
*The famous AI of Huawei.
##And most importantly the CAMERAS AND DESIGNING(cameras are important for me as im a YouTuber and am using my phone to shoot and would love to get better videos in my channel a)because I can't afford a camera (b)Because I''m a startup)
Hope i get one.
I'd love to get my hands on a X series.

honor 7x is very good fone but front camera not, only 8 mega pixel so i give this fone to my younger brother , now i am using huawei p20lite, but after launching 8x i must use it because its layout without notch is very fantastic and i really like it with full display,

I've got the Honor 7x using right now, it's a great phone. The reason why I bought this is because it offered really good specs for a really good price. What really got me through was the headphone jack, and it's also on the bottom! I really like that design, and I still have my headphone jack! I don't really care if this phone has it or not, but it would be super awesome if it does! I'd really like to win this giveaway so I can see what I can do with this phone, possibly even build a few ROMs if I ever get the time to set up everything. Bootloader code unlocking service stopping is a bummer, but there are other ways, and also Honor does have the service back... sort of. I'd like to attach a picture but I've got a bunch of potato cameras so there is no need. I like the Honor 7x and would love to get the Honor 8x

I have used none. I'm sort of a Xiaomi fan and currently choosing between a Mi A2 Lite and a Pocophone F1. Considering the specs important to me, the Honor 8X falls nicely in the middle, so I would not reject winning it.
I wouldn't buy it though, because like I said, I'm sort of a Xiaomi fan. Only winning this might change that

I bought a Honor 5X back then when it was released in 2016. At that time it really was one of the few devices having a fingerprint sensor at an affordable price tag. The premium metall body and overall feel made me decide to get this phone. A major plus I realized later was the snapdragon SoC that allowed the diversity of custom ROMs to exist.
Watching the following X-series models I was really surprised how much the premium feel improved ranging from dual cameras to minimization of screen boarders. So I really hope the Honor 8x to continue this wonderful evolution and exceed the normal expectations for a mid-range device.

I did not own a honor from the X series (and I am curious), but a honor 7 and I really liked the customization options of EMUI. I had been using MIUI and Xiaomi devices for years, ad when I checked out the honor 7 I just had to build a theme for EMUI (it was EMUI 4 back then, which I liked more than the newer versions). I even released a honor 7 ROM which some users really liked... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_3tDTMpPFc
Regarding various details I enjoyed my honor more than some Xiaomi devices. Having a honor X for the first time I would tinker around some more again...

Oneplus 3 vs ZTE Axon 7

I know there are a lot versus threads popping up (OP3 vs Samsung S7, OP3 vs Nexus 6P,.. ), but I would really like to hear your opinions about the ZTE Axon 7.
https://www.zteusa.com/axon7/
http://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7
I'm very interested in the Oneplus 3, but the Axon 7 looks so promising.
I really don't understand why this device isn't getting more attention. (Bad marketing?)
It is on many point familiar with the OP3. But imo has more interesting features.
They are releasing a 6GB/128GB model and a 4GB/64GB model.
- Same Snapdragon 820 CPU
- Same Adreno 530 GPU
- Both are Dual SIM
- Same screen size
Pro's for the ZTE Axon 7
MicroSD support
1440 x 2560 resolution display instead of 1080 x 1920.
20MP camera (can't really compare the quality)
Quality dual front facing speakers
Larger battery (not by much. 3140 vs 3000 mAh)
Pro's for the Oneplus 3
Great community and custom rom support.
Comparison between the two on GSMArena
I also prefer the fingerprint sensor on the back, but I admit this is personal preference.
The only thing I'm afraid of would be the possible lack of a community.
So please tell me. Why should I choose the Oneplus 3?
I personally don't know anything about zte development here on xda(my bad) the specs are look really promising.
But think about it. It's only 140mAh more battery for a 2K display...and don't want to mention the phone's own UI(talking about the optimization)
It is a bad marketing from ZTE, I haven't heard about the device at all....
The sd card is just unnecessary for the 6gb/128gb IMHO.
When is this phone gonna be released? Interested abou the price and want to know if it will have a European version....
Sent from my ONE A2003 using XDA-Developers mobile app
It is a AMOLED display, so battery shouldn't be too affected.. They are aiming for google daydream support after all and a resolution like that is required.
The MicroSD slot is a hybrid SIM-slot. Unnecessary since I will be using 2 sims, and like you said, 128GB is more than enough storage. But useful when I think of flashing a new rom.
If I read correct the release should be somewhere in mid June - begin Juli.
So hopefully not much longer.
I have been searching for a phone for at least 6 months and this phone was on my list.
I compared the OP 3, Axon 7, and the Zenphone 3 deluxe.
All very similar in specs besides the screen on ZTE axon 7. Both zenfone 3 d and axon have the front facing speakers, but also both start at a higher price tag for what I consider not important enough features for me to justify the jump.
The oneplus 3 has everything on the inside the other two do, yet an appealing price tag, and developer community is not just supported, but encouraged. This made the phone a win in my book. I can manage fine with a decent display and lose the dual front facing speakers (which I really wanted). It literally depends on how much your willing to spend for what is important to you.
Either way, the ZTE seems to be a fine phone, and is a top contender for anyone. I just didn't want to pay more for a less ram/storage option over what the op3 offered me.
Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
Keep in mind that the ZTE offers a free extended warranty program 'Passport 2.0'.
A similar warranty program for the OP3 costs you $80 extra.
Axon 7 + Passport 2.0 (2 years warranty and free out-of-warranty repairs): $450
OnePlus3 + On-Guard Plus 24 (2 years protection similar to Passport 2.0): $399 + $80 = $479.
But yeah.. not that I was going to buy that extra warranty for the OP3. So I get your point.
Coming from the 10, a lot of the Axon 7s features really struck a chord with me, like the dual FFS, and their insane attention to detail when it comes to headphone audio.
However, aside from that I can think of like 0 reason to pick it over the 10 or the OP3. Why am I going to OP3/7 after owning a 10? Great question. I just have an obsession with trying new phones. Maybe an addiction.
Not sure either will stay, but I love trying them all.
There is also the ZUK Z2 Pro which has a 5.2" Full HD screen.
Last time I took a look at the ZTE Axon 7 this was what I learned:
- ZTE = active in USA (outside their home markets), Passport 2.0 program applies to USA (afaik), ZTE is looking to expand their activity in EU but so far they don't even really have an active EU site (again afaik).
- I have contacted ZTE about EU availability, they did "not know anything" at the time, ZTE UK even tweeted Q4 release in UK (in 4 months maybe the new nexus is the new star).
twitter.com/ZTE_UK/status/743094792049987584
- The 'normal' Axon 7 has huge top/bottom bezels, the premium (6GB version, touch force, wood inlay, capacitive buttons on the bottom) is again no information on if it would launch in USA/EMEA markets (maybe China only). I was very interested in the premium for a short time but I have serious doubts they won't put a 500+ $/€ price tag on it, which blows past my price point for a "Chinese Brand" phone.
Pretty much the same applies to the Zuk Z2 Pro which is only available in EU region through import (so far) and that raises the price as well.
Now all this was last week, maybe fresh info points to other availability/launch dates.
tl:dr: For USA Axon7 is a OP3 contender, for EU we'll have to wait (for months possibly).
I've tried ZTE in the past, non of the ZTE devices I've owned have ever received updates or timely ones, and the XDA community for these devices just doesn't exist. My dad's Alcatel phone recently died (another garbage brand), and I decided to get him ZTE phone. I knew that I shouldn't have, and I was right, the capacitive keys just stopped working on it, and my dad is currently using it without them until I get him a better phone... Just avoid the following brands BLU, Alcatel, ZTE, ASUS (for smartphones), and the myriad of cheap Chinese brands out there. Either the XDA community will not exist, and/or they do not support their devices, and/or the hardware quality control is piss poor. The only Chinese brands I trust are Oneplus, Xiaomi, and Huawei.
You actually trust xiaomi? The Mi5 is the most flimsy phone I have ever felt lmao...
I should tell you. This phone was given to me for development purposes. 1st time in the pocket... Cracked screen

The only Chinese branded smartphones I've owned from the brands I recommended have been the OPO and the 6P. To this day both of those stand as the only two smartphones that I call the best I've ever had. As far as Xiaomi goes, I've been very happy with their Yi action cam and the random home electronic devices, trinkets, and accessories I've bought from them. Hell, I even use their huge mouse and keyboard pads on my gaming rig now. I've heard many good things about their smartphones, but I trust you in your assessment of them, smartphones are a lot harder to pull off.

Awesome. Thanks for the feedback!
Guess I'm going to wait a bit longer for the release announcement, but as it looks now, the OP3 looks like the better choice when you're in the EU.
I had to think about aswell and my choice ist the axon 7. Better Display, Better Sound and Better camera. It has am mircosd Slot. Look at this Video. http://youtu.be/anmqPsVYeN0/

I think a big determining factor for me is well the zte axon 7 be be rootable? We know the one plus 3 will be but many of other zte phones weren't rootable.

I was on the fringe between buying op3 or waiting for the axon 7. I decided on the op3 for two reasons. , Capacitive buttons, 6gb ram and dev support. OK 3 reasons. I am French American and travel to France a lot. I looked the ZTE for the front speakers and full Eu and USA LTE bands. But i decided on the op3. Excited to receive it.
My reason for OP3 was minimal bloatware, and presece of google services. Now this is kinda something you better dont expect right out of the box with the chinese phones. You can install google services, yes, but there might be some issues here and there. The Axon7 is a beast. But wheb you look at Axon Elite, which is sold for $200 and has not that great support well...

one huge PRO for the OP3 is OxygenOS, which is near stock vs the touchwize-like modifications on the ZTE Axon
Pro's:
- Really need 2k display ? (Google Daydream also applys for thr Oneplus 3)
- Micro SdCard is for Musik&Pictures&Videos etc. If you have a lot okay (64gb modell). But 64Gb is enougth imo
- More Battery doesn't mean better batterylife (+2K display uses more)
I'll recommend you the OnePlus 3 after using it for a Month.
Pro's for the OnePlus 3:
- Really easy unlocking bootloader (one fastboot command) + warrenty
- Great Dev Community
- Great Stock OS
- Rocking Fingerprintsensor
(- I like the Design more, it just looks more premium imo )
- really big Pro is DASH Charge
OnePlus 3 - OP3Lite | systemless root | xposed v86 ?
I have both and right now, I'd have to say unless you need a SLIGHTLY better camera, or stronger cell reception then your better off with the Axon 7. Speaker, DAC, screen, build and battery are all better on the Axon. in places im seeing signals of -120 to -123db on my Axon, the OnePlus is at -116 to 118. Even with that said, the Axon still takes the win on battery life.

Real Users, will you get a P20 or an S9?

I am in the process of either buying a P20, or an S9. This is a 35 vs 40 euro per month question (10 total as I need two phones) and since it is 2 years contract I am very interested in the reliability part of the phone, hardware, and software wise.
I am interested in using the phone mainly for communication calls/whatsapp, but also very important for taking pictures and recording videos. No gaming for me.
Reviews, in general, are very good about the P20, but reviews are short-lived usage experiences, and my only experience with Huawei (a Hero 6X), has not been very good: slow to update, the phone freezes from time to time (it is obviously not a flagship, I know), so I was wondering, now that you have (hopefully) used the phone for a while, will you get a P20 or an S9 if you had the chance?
As a former user of the S7 Edge, I tend to think the Samsung is a more reliable phone, but I wanted to hear from real users here.
Thank you.
Without headphones from bose i would definitely choose s9.

Thanks, but I don't understand your answer. If you had bose headphones you will choose the P20? why?
I have choosen p20 because of bose headphones. This phone with star price 599£ is bot worth it. No amoled, no stereo speakers, no water resistant, bad selfie camera, plastic frame around screen and back glass, pure emui experience ( you cant scan gift cards with android pay f.ex), now huawei is locking bootloader pernamently so you will be not able to mode your phone in the future.
Go with samsung s9 or lg g7 or p20 pro. P20 is worth 550$ imo
S9 price is a joke, too much money for too little improvement compared to S8, for the price of S9 you can get P20 & Moto G6 plus

Thanks, like I said here the option is the P20, for 35 euro, or 840 euro per 24 months, including service, or 40 euro for the S9, or 960 euro per 24 months, so the difference between the P20 vs the S9 us only 120 euros.
I like the P20 in papers, but I am not so sure about the reliability of it. That is my main concern with it.
Hi,
I have a friend who bought the S9, I on the other hand bought the P20.
I can tell you that the S9 is a little bit powerfull than the P20, other than that it does not impress me in any other way ( except the price tag ).
Take S9. P20 Community is dying before it was coming Up, since Huawei will stop provide bootloader unlock possibility soon.
Or take a look at the Sony XZ2 compact or Honor 10. The Honor 10 is very similar but cheaper, the XZ2 Compact costs about the same and is much faster and has better battery life than both the P20 and S9.
From a reliability standpoint, the Huawei charger heats up the phone a lot, shortening the lifespan of the battery considerably. I wish they used the same kind of fast charging as oneplus.

The XZ2 is more expensive here than the P20, S9, S9+, and almost as expensive as the P20 Pro.
Interesting options are: P20 $35, S9 $40, Mate 10 $42, S9+ $45, P20 Pro $50, Note 8 $50, XZ2 Compact $50
I think I'll go with the s9 or s9+
Go with the S9 for Headphone jack, amoled screen, better camera and micro sd slot.
S9 has better dev support also unlike the P20.
Dont bother with s9... Samsung software is rubbish, had s9 plus for a month.. took em 2 months just to solve calls issue.. absolutely a joke.. so for the first time in long time i jumped the ship and moved to pixel... And absolutely bo regrets.. amazing phones in software wise.. and camera etc.. please mind i am not here to push u towards pixie, but from personal experience over the years, finally realized how bad sammy software is.. and they still sucks on updates, anyway if u wait a day or two i can tell u how p20 is.. ordered one for my missus and should be here today, contact was 300 quid cheaper over two years compared to likes of s9, but honestly i would still pick pixel 2 xl here if u lookin at phone that's supported for the next two, three years with updates,
Personally I went with the P20 because I like the overall design better and the pricing for me was lower. P20 is a good phone but Huawei itslef is being retarded. I don't recommend P20 just because of how Huawei treats us.
On the other hand I love the back camera and overall performance. It's a good phone and should last quite a while, but too bad it's in Huaweis hands.
Never had a Samsung so can't tell, fanboys can be hard on both sides but seems like the s9 will suit you better.
Sent from my EML-L29 using XDA Labs
The question here is whether the phone is reliable, from that point of view the answer is a resounding yes. It is a brilliant phone that has not let me down since I got the phone 2 months ago. Everything just works and works very well. If you are looking into unlocking, rooting etc then the question changes and the answers are reflected in the other posts. TBH I have not rooted a phone since my LG G5 2 years ago and quite frankly I personally have no need to root anymore. The phones are pretty fast and I don't flash a new rom every few weeks.
I've never been as happy with a phone as I am with p20. Had Samsung, Sony, LG.
Hello, I got the phone a week ago. I was using samsung before that. I am very happy with the P20. I think samsung's interface is a bit laging and updates are very slow. Camera performance is very good. Fingerprint reader and face recognition work incredibly fast. I was undecided between S9 and P20, but the P20 is a much better phone. There are also people who say that Huawei is threatening people; but how do you know the others don't? Nobody is as innocent as they seem. If you're not going to root your phone, take the P20.
I bought it for 400€, I love the phone, the battery lasts very long, the camera is remarkably good, especially in low light conditions and the phone feels fast and smooth. The only problem, which has more to do with the brand rather than the phone, is the prohibition to unlock bootloaders via official way, although there are shady services who charge from 30$ to 50$ to unlock your phone. If flashing stuff is not important to you then go for it, although I hope a free method of obtaining the unlock code will eventually be leaked.
This is my first Huawei. Before I had a couple of Samsung phones.I'm satisfied with the P20:great battery life, great camera, good price and I allready have android 9.For now I don't see any reason to miss Samsung.

I find no eligible reasons to unlock the bootloader of P20 since there is no usable custom ROM, kernel & custom recovery, also no real developers working toward this phone. Thankfully, EMUI 9 features already cover all of my basic needs.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro, hands down. A great set of cameras, Okay software experience, great chip inside backed up by adequate battery capacity is anybody's dream. This delivers just that. Most other phones in this segment lacks in one or the other department.. This one delivers in most..
Well just because it isn't offered anywhere else for the price bracket, I'll have to say the LG Stylo 3, which for around 100 bucks has
• FP Sensor
•Alright capacity battery AND removable at that
•3.5 (sad we got to this state where this needs to be mentioned!)
•Ext SD
•Pen
•nougat (so not so old), rootable, alright processor, camera, screen, etc
Definitely the Mi A2 and the Mi A2 lite. Personally I prefer the Mi A2, but it just depends on the user. They offer great specs for a great price, I really like Xiaomi since Huawei is not being a ***** to the community.
Zenfone Max Pro M1 or Mi A2.
Notchless screen, current-gen Qualcomm chip, readily BL unlockable, good dev support.
One certain manufacturer here leaves a lot to be desired in these aspects...
xiaomi redmi 5 plus!
low price ¦ almost excellent performance (for its price) ¦ 3,5 for wired headphones
Bluetooth to connect bt headphones without a problem ! ¦ great camera and even better if you add root it and enable camera 2api for google camera with portrait mode. eis, motion and etc greate community on the custom forum! ¦ great IPS display rather than Huawei y... pro (which is even more expensive )
great speaker! ¦ 5ghz wifi ¦ IR blaster ¦ all day battery 6-8 hours sot!
and so on! /
missing parts > usb type c and lack of nfc
Is XDA so horny for the money that you cant stop having a sponsor that doesnt support your own community?!? I still cant understand why anybody is making an article or thread for sponsoring of huawai/honor devices. But as we saw with apple in 1997 everybody takes money from everybody if they need it even if apple takes money from microsoft to avoid bankruptcy. But i dont think the servers of XDA would go down if one sponsorship ends. Just start using your brain instead of your wallet.
Xiaomi Mi A1. Tried it as a daily driver for a while. Has an unlocked bootloader. Good XDA support including full LineageOS support, which I made use of. Xiaomi spent their budget well on the product, as everything works pretty well (rather than some cheap phones which allocate too much cost on one gimmick in exchange for poor performance elsewhere).
And not sure if this really counts as "sub $250" even though I paid $249 for it new: Essential Phone, my current daily driver. Presently $309 on Amazon, which doesn't fit this thread. Stock UI, unlocked bootloader, Pie on day one, has yet to crash. Works great with Magisk. Best phone I've owned in a long time, using it as my daily rather than Samsung stuff that cost 3x that.
Personally I wouldn't enter my email password on a Chinese-made phone with a locked bootloader/stock ROM. I'm very impressed by the product, but wouldn't touch it (for real personal use) due to security concerns. Chinese OEMs are well insulated from US law by way of the Chinese government, so they have little to lose by non-compliance.
Galaxy Core LTE G386W.
It does what I need, is small enough, is cheap. Don't know why I would need more. And on Kitkat it works very well it never lags or shutters. I am really happy with the phone.
But I assume that for this contest, you will need to give a Honor phone to win because huawei cannot find legit good comments about their phones. Keep copying apple huawei, you will only be less of a brand and more of a ctrl-c + ctrl-v.
Plus locking bootloader for better UX should have made the whole xda community be angry at Huawei, not crawling for their money. Shame on xda staff. Shame
Not sure what your limits are
But i just purchased a new LG V20 on ebay for about 230USD. So far, i am totally pleased with it (Specifically, an H918).
Good size, nice display removable battery.
Hi guys,Thanks for this giving wonderful oppurtunity to share my favourite phone under $250
Hey guys,Here are the top 6 features of MiA2 that I loved and I will also include the rating that I will be giving to each aspect of this Smartphone.
DESIGN- 9/10. There is a camera hump that is why I gave 9.
CAMERA- 10/10. The best camera at this price.
PROCESSING- 10/10. The best class processor at this price.
BATTERY- 8/10. Just 3000 mAh battery instead of giving 4000 mAh battery.
SOFTWARE- 10/10. Fully stock android.
HARDWARE- 8/10. It is because there is no 3.5mm Headphone jack.
-----------------------------------------------------
BELOW ARE THE TOP 6 FEATURES OF Mi A2:
-----------------------------------------------------
1. DESIGN: It comes with a fully metallic design and also the beautiful 5.99" Full HD+ Large display with Gorilla Glass 5 Protection. It has the fingerprint sensor on the back.
2. CAMERA: It comes with those 20MP+12MP Rear AI dual camera and 20MP front facing camera. These can Take clearer daytime photos with the 12MP lens and large 1.25μm pixels and also Low-light photos are brighter with
the 20MP lens.It has 4-in-1 Super Pixel, based on pixel binning technology. These Dual cameras takes beautiful pictures with the combination of AI. On the front,it has 20 MP font facing camera with AI Beautify 4.0. The best thing about it is that there is a single camera on the front but still that camera takes Amazing portrait shots.
3. PROCESSOR: It is powered with Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 and it has also the AI engine. The multitasking is great and you can play high end games flawlessly.
4. HARDWARE: It comes with USB Type-c and also Supports with Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0
5. SOFTWARE: It is a smartphone that comes with Android one support which means that it will get faster android updates in time and it runs on fully stock android. It just now runs on latest Android Oreo 8.1 and lastest security patch!
6. PRICE: This is main and very exciting thing about this smartphone. At this price this smartphone has great features and I think this is very less price for this Smartphone and everybody should take a look at this device in this price range.
Verdict : ONE word it’s competition KILLER at AFFORDABLE price. BEST PHONE under $250 EVER.
Galaxy J7 (2017)
Taking into consideration the current market standing, the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) has to be my favorite choice in the segment.
While it doesn't push the budget limit too much (you can pick it up for around $185 or less), it still has many benefits:
Fair price to performance ratio at its current price
Really good cameras for this budget segment
Extremely solid build quality which I value in a budget phone
Solid support
Active XDA Community
Good battery life
Harmonic balance between Bloated Stock Skin and Barebone AOSP
I would say the best phone in this budget has to be the Honor 8X. It has a massive 6.5 inch display with a notch, but that can be hidden, so no issues there. The movie watching and gaming experience is really awesome. The design too, for the price, is absolutely magnificent. The chipset too, for the price, is a very capable one, and one of Huawei's latest chips. The cameras are also pretty good. The inability to unlock the bootloader might be off-putting, but there is a chance it could be unlocked, as with some other Huawei devices. But you can just put Nova Launcher on it if you want. It's a really great phone and according to me, the best in this price range.
Oh, did I mention, the battery is like 3700 mAh, so that shouldn't disappoint either.
If you're buying second hand, the LG V20 falls into that price range, as well as some of the older Samsung Galaxy phones, such as the S6 Edge. You'll get a lot of support, premium quality, as well as excellent cameras. Bang for buck the LG V20 is probably the best phone out there under $250.
But if we're going for first hand purchases, the Le Pro 3. While the Le Max 3 has already come out for the same price, the Le Pro 3 has an amazing community behind it, so your phone will have the latest Android and a variety of ROMs to choose from for every version up until now. It has pretty good cameras, both forward and rear facing, Snapdragon 821, 6GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and a 4070mAh battery. It was designated as a flagship killer when it came out, and the price dropped since it didn't manage to do that - and now it's a flagship killer killer with flagship killer specs. Once you flash a well polished ROM, it feels premium, albeit dated (slightly large chin and forehead, no notch).
Definetly the Xiaomi Mi A2. Android One at such a minor price is extremely nice. I've already bought it and it's 6GB memory for under 250$ with 128GB storage. Best mid class phone ive ever seen until yet.
in my opinion the a5 2017 galaxy at the current price is worth, waterproof, good camera and decent battery. the downside is the performance, I'm not saying it is a slow phone but that compared to competitors at the same price you can have more, nothing to say about the construction quality that is excellent; the software and the samung experience 9.0 with android oreo, unfortunately there is no bixby.
HONOR 9N
Under $250 the best phone is the honor 9n because first of all its an HONOR device so feature packed emui and faster updates which is an important factor for most of the users then it has also has a decent enough battery that combined with emui gives good battery life for the moderate or the heavy users and then it has also decent enough cameras with good bokeh effect and acceptable low light performance and now the main thing the display of the phone which is a full hd+ 19:9 accept ratiopanel display so yeah it means it has a notch.Quality of the dispaly is preety good and also offers great viewing angles and all this is powered by a kirin 659 proccesor which we have already seen is a very capable chip so it will handle day to day tasks without breaking a sweat and all these things packed within a beautiful glass sandwich body with metal frame which makes the device looks very premium so without a doubt honor 9n is arguably the best device under $250 with very few compromises.....
Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1! Best 180$ ever spent + Best Device ever had!!
Specs highlights: SD636 | 4GB+64GB | 5000mAh | 6" FHD+ | Dual Cams | Stock Android
Bonus: Best XDA Devs with Official Lineage OS support for Custom ROMs!
Favorite Phone Under $250 - Mi A2
Year 2018, The most important phase in smartphone segment where $1000 era for a device is around every corner! but Mid-range $250 smartphones were the backbone to all of it.!
Just 5 years back, the maximum Camera of a flagship models is 8Mp - 12Mp Single lens, whereas now dual to triple camera lens were on the way, we actually have to thank all the smartphone manufacturers for bringing the best devices which can perform equally in every department, moreover they can compete against flagship models under the price tag starting from $250 - $300 Maximum.
I personally a Honor Fan, have to thank them for bringing lot's of mid-rangers starting from Honor Holly series to Honor X series.!
I am huge fan of Honor Smartphones, after Honor 6x, Honor 9 Lite, Honor 8 Pro, Honor 10 & latest addition to my family is Honor 7a but my favourite this time is Mi A2 even though i didn't own it.!
It's very difficult for me to go with any other brand from Honor, but still i have to choose a favourite one,
Mi A2 - Android One
Launch Year - July 2018
Storage Options - 4gb - 32/64gb or 6gb/128gb
Price - $235 / ₹16,999 - 4gb/64gb
Favoritism
Operation System - Android One, These two words is enough!
Price - Under $250, it's enough for me with 4gb/64gb with Unlimited Google Photos option comes in handy as well.!
Camera - 12 MP, f/1.8, 1/2.9", 1.25µm 20 MP, f/1.8, 1/2.8", 1.0µm, PDAF (Front as well)
Chipset & Hardware - Snapdragon 660 AIE with Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0, Bluetooth 5.0 & Corning Gorilla Glass 5 display.
Compromises
Headphone Jack, Big Battery & Notched Display 19:9 ratio
I personally won't mind about "Headphone Jack" or "Bigger battery" since It's Android One it's capable of running a day! & can spend a few bucks for USB Type-C Headphone as well.!
People will always go for right price with right specifications, even though it required a few bucks around Minimum $50.!
Request to Honor:-
Honor is the first smartphone which has bought budget to mid-range with Holly & X series devices which performed in every aspects! But Honor missed Holly series in later 2016, given space to other brands but thankfully now Honor 7a & 7s value for money with decent cameras! The most dependable series is X series where you people did great with Honor 6x, Honor 7x & now Honor 8X is already looks stunning in every corners!
I personally felt where Honor given space to other brands is that why Honor went on launching Honor 9i, later on Honor 9 Lite and now it's Honor 9N/9i 2018 with same Kirin 659/655 processors!!?? that's where the other brands had a upper hand.! Yes Honor 9i or Honor 9 lite launched with Quad Camera's but at least it should have been renamed as Honor 8x with Quad Camera's with Notch design, then Honor would have been the first smartphone manufacturer to bring those features in Mid-range series like you guys did in 2016 with Honor 6x with Dual lens camera.
Ok fine! but at least, should have considered about launching anyone of Honor 9i/Honor 9 lite with Snapdragon 625/636 with EMUI or Kirin 659 EMUI with Android One, anyone of these would have been a game changer in Smartphone segment of 2017-18!
If other brands like Mi, Asus can do means why not Honor.!? with Kirin / Android One or Snapdragon / EMUI - I hope like me, many users would love to see this happening in near future! Moreover, i would like to share more thoughts/ design concepts to Honor Team, if there is any opportunities like this in coming days!
Thanks alot XDA Team & Honor for bringing this wonderful opportunity to share our thoughts
Regards
Honor Addict
I'd go with the Nokia 6.1, which is currently selling for around $230 USD (alright, it was approximately 270 at launch, but who cares).
All-around decent specs, fairly manageable size, still has a headphone jack (!!!), pretty much guaranteed software updates for a while by virtue of being part of the Android One program. A solid device, IMO.

OnePlus 8 Pro India Thread

Hey Guys, Lets use this thread for India 8pro.
I am currently using Huawei P30 pro and planning to shift to OP8P, if the camera is at par with other flagship phones.
Let the thoughts flow
- I doubt the camera will be on par with other top of the line flagships. Moreover the hype so far hasn't been on the camera - maybe it says something about its inferiority but that I'm just guessing only, for now.

Sony imx689 is one of the best sensors in mobile industry and if oppo can achieve excellent images from it then oneplus can surely oneup them becuase oneplus has always had better software algorithms compared to oppo although both have same parent company. You can find reviews of oppo find x2 pro anywhere on internet, it is basically same as oneplus 8 pro albiet some design changes and without periscopic zoom.

Well aware of those, it's just that based on the history of OnePlus @ overall camera performance and not so factual camera hype in the past, I'm curiously looking forward to the cameras than anything else, as the rest(excluding their recent trend of curves) never disappointed.

Cosidering official IP certification, wireless charging, hiked GST etc., 60K is less likely I think.

There are hyping the camera this time around. An example is here
https://twitter.com/oneplus/status/1247147094130987011?s=19
Its just that their core focus is keeping the same marketing strategy like in past and that is hyping the speed.
And yes you are right i can see them going north of 65k this time around.

Even if they hype, my eyebrows still get raised @ OP's camera, especially bcoz of terms like "intelligent pixel technology" @ 5T, 111 DxO score of 7 Pro etc.. but then, this time around I expect them to offer something unquestionably stellar with those capable sensors.
Thankfully, the speed so far has been proven as real in every iteration and as long as the "speed hype" reflects across the board I don't mind it at all.
When will these go on actual sale in India?
What are your expectations for indian pricing?
I think the price for 8 pro 12/256 GB will be around 70k. Well, we will know in a few days. For the first time, I am genuinely interested in a oneplus device (have been using Samsung Galaxy for years). Thanks to Samsung going nuts with S20 series, I might actually end up buying the top spec 8 pro! Just waiting for an in depth camera review before jumping in though. I'm totally in, if the camera results are comparable to find X2 pro, which is better than s20 ultra and at least on par with p40 pro IMO wrt to camera.

......The camera setup is very good, requires precision in the software part it seems that OP will do like last year I believe.
In comparison to the X2 Pro, the zoom will not be on par as the 8 Pro lacks the 5x periscope.

I know. I won't miss the 5x periscope zoom though, as much as the lack of a 512 GB version (since my current phone is 512 GB S10+ exynos)! Inclusion of both above options would have made the 8 pro perfect IMO.
Looking at aggressive price in China and OnePlus India's tweet, it's probably safe to expect reasonably fair pricing in India as well.
India prices revealed
128gb = 55k
256gb= 60k
Excellent pricing

Finely priced, this lower than Chinese pricing might be due to the fact that consumers will get their units pretty "late" this time around unlike all these years in their extremely important market..

The pricing is very good indeed! The camera hardware (especially main and ultra wide) on the OP 8 pro is promising/flagship grade. I'm sure any existing issues/niggles can be fixed with future updates (white balance, night mode etc.) and apparently one plus is already on it as per this YouTube reviewer.

Existing niggles will be minimised through software, just like how OP did with 7Pro, not doubting on it.
However, my dis-satisfaction is based on lack of hardware elements upon which software can't do much :
- It doesn't have the Oppo Find X2/X2 Pro's faster f/1.7 aperture in the main cam.
- Front camera isn't as wide as the galaxies or a few others. Also, it has a smaller aperture in comparison to last year's OP7Pro.(f/2.5 vs f/2.0).
- The 5 MP "color filter camera" exists just for the namesake of "quad camera setup", it does depth sensing(?), but not a ToF one . To my eyes, it's for decoration, rather than any real benefit.
- Lack of periscope setup means lack of details on zoomed distant objects. Price is now in flagship territory in several regions.
Agree. I have a P30 pro and am looking to change my phone, was thinking of Oneplus 8 pro, but then it will be a downgrade in terms of camera, battery life, battery charging speed etc.
Anyone have any good suggestions which phone should i buy? (no xiaomi, vivo, oppo, mi)..

In the camera section, mainly keeping the zooming and low light performances aside, the 8 pro's overall cam performances (with consecutive updates) wouldn't be at all, an inferior one to the P30 Pro I would say.

It's easy to suggest OP8Pro as it checks the most, right number of boxes amongst the rest available in the Android side at present..

Yeah, let's wait for the detailed reviews to see the difference in camera quality between oppo and OP, although I think it will be similar for the main and ultra wide and front camera. Long range Zoom however shall be better in the oppo due to periscope 5x optical, but 2-3x will be better on the OP due to native 2-3x optical.
I agree, they should have given a periscope 5x or some useful camera/lens instead of that 5mp colour filter camera! I don't know how useful the TOF sensor is on other flagships, nevertheless it would have made more sense than the color filter imo.
Does OnePlus 8 and 8 pro have NAVIC support ?

Question Who will buy a OP9pro and why?

I am curious about the camera and think that will be a reason for a purchase.
Some newer hardware . Faster charger & i hope a faster wireless too.
I hope 5G works for any network/country in the world.
Better camera. On this we need proof.
Too bad that we do not have a square screen, flat, no curved edges . Those round corners on a phone are Horrible.
I jumped ship from OnePlus after having 3T, 5, 6T, 7Pro and 8Pro and went to Samsung Note 20 Ultra (rooted) and now S21 Ultra. But I'm missing the ease of root and the easily unlockable bootloader. Don't get me wrong for the S21 Ultra is a great device but without root and all the bootloader shenanigans that Samsung is constantly bringing to the table I'm going back to OnePlus with the 9 Pro. Already got a case for it (LOL). Camera is important but not a deal breaker unless it's totally trash which I don't expect this one to be. I obviously enjoyed previous OnePlus devices and expect this to be no different.
I'll be upgrading to it for All of the above reasons and then some! FYI latest news:

This definitive OnePlus 9 series buyer's guide contains all the info you need, including specs, price details, release dates, and more.

I'll get one primarily to test, to compare with other top tiers..
For me, it's upgrade time. LGV40 has been great other than the total lack of updates from LG.
Have always been interested in OP, but was hesitant to buy any Chinese maker (privacy wise).
I've been looking for a while for a device to get me off iOS. I need a phone that has a good camera (which they seem to try to sell hard this time around, promising) and IP rating (which the 8 Pro had so I'd assume that would continue to the 9 Pro). So long as LineageOS support springs up for it after a bit I'm def switching
I plan on picking one up. I've held onto my OnePlus 7 Pro for longer than most phones over the last ten years or so. It's time to upgrade. I'll pass the OP7Pro on to my fiancee' and she'll pass her OnePlus 6 down to her son to replace his OP5. And so the cycle will continue.
I'm curious about the camera, but I'm not all-in on it yet. I've always thought OP to have decent, but not the best cameras. They've said that they've focused on the camera in the past, only to have "good enough" be the result. We'll see with the Hasselblad partnership. Everything else is what I'm looking forward to and expecting to be excellent. Speed, screen, finally a 5G phone, WiFi 6 (hopefully?). A truly great camera would just be the icing on top.
I'll buy it for the fast charge and test your camera, but where can I buy the unlocked OP 9 pro? Or will it only come to T-Mobile?

You can buy unlocked models directly from OnePlus.com
As someone else stated that they've held on to the oneplus 7pro longer than others in the last 10years so have I, I've felt that the 7pro has been more than adequate in all aspects to go this long and not feel like I'm missing out on any thing 'new' and I could probably go another year and say the same thing but I think my battery is starting to degrade and doesn't last near as long as it used to so I've decided that it's time to move on and I think that the 9pro will be a good upgrade, I'm not so worried about the camera as most are (I've never been) as long as it takes pictures as good as the 7pro I'll be happy in that aspect.
Ive been a oneplus user since the oneplus one (when you had to get an invite) and been happy with every device that I've purchased from them but I've noticed that I can go two years now easily without upgrading because the innovation of new features , faster phones etc is decreasing more than before so I'm sure this will be my phone for the next two-three years.
3T... 6... 9. I try the pro in the hope for an active community. I hope the curved screen is not to sensitive against impact and usage as in holding and using without touching always the edge.
I forgot to mention the best display on the market.
50w wireless charging (Awesome) ! 65w wired charging also great.
It's very sad to see that oneplus, stopped be the Robin hood in this world.
The prices are to expensive, just like all those phones.
And as usual... It's the same company as oppo, so it's going to be almost the same as oppo find x3 models.
BBK electronics make OnePlus, Oppo, Vivo, Realme, Iqoo (a sub-brand of Vivo) Iqoo is
Vivo's sub brand, set to enter India with 5G smartphone.
Oppo and Oneplus phones are very similar. Vooc and Dash, now Warp charging, same, very similar.
Oppo is 2-300 euro more than OnePlus. Find x3 Pro is 1250 euro.
Oppo have different market/customers than OnePlus.
If I could pre-order it now I would do it, because it is the only normal android device that exists right now. You can root without loose the warranty, xda support, high end specs. I cant wait.
Currently happy OnePlus 8 owner. I have owned OP6, OP7Pro and OP8. I could have stay with the 7 pro easily, these days you can easily wait 2 to 3 years. I don't think I will upgrade to the OnePlus 9, it is simply not "needed". But we will see when it gets launched
I will wait for the successor of the 9, because I hope they will again fall back to a flat screen like the 8T, I personally hate the curved screens, because it is totally difficult to find a screen protector for it and real advantages it also has not. Where I have even considered in the meantime to sell my 8T and switch to the Pixel 5, but wait....
I will hold on for some review if Hasselblad do some magic to photo department of the phone. (Fun fact, I just know DJI bought Hasselblad few years ago hehehe.)
Last one plus phone for me was 7,I will try 9 this time
