Change Launcher not possible in latest MIUI 10 CN Beta 8.9.6? - Xiaomi Mi Max 3 Questions & Answers

HI guys, just received the Mi Max 3 and updated it straight to MIUI 10 China Dev build, but I'm unable to change the launcher, I've never had trouble before with Xiaomi devices, once I install a new launcher, I normally just go to default apps and select it there from the list of available launchers, but not this time, I've tried Nova, Google Pixel, Lawnchair, none of them show up on the list of launchers, are you guys experiencing the same?
Thanks XDA
UPDATE: Got it, had to go a bit too extreme to get it working, so tried factory reset, without setting up any apps, just straight to sideload Nova apk, but still no luck, so the solution was:
Sideload Nova Launcher APK (from apkmirror website), open cmd/shell and run the following commands:
1 - adb shell
2 - pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.mihome
3 - pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.home
So basically, removed all references to MIUI launcher and now pressing the home button takes me to NOVA Launcher =D
Hope this helps for someone that goes through the same.

Have tried Nova Launcher.
Install launcher.
Hit home button, hit once again and there will be shown option to choose your default launcher. Choose one.

Thanks for the quick reply, but no, I don't see that pop-up =( are you running the latest MIUI CN 10 beta 8.9.6?
Please see screenshot, only have "System launcher" and the option to download "Jeejen Home screen", no other launchers showing =(

I'm on 8.8.30, but there is no difference, it has always been so.
Try uninstalling launcher, then reinstall and hit home button at once.

Done that already, no luck, I had the Mi 8 before, also running MIUI 10 CN beta and didn't have this issue, thanks for your time, I'll try some other stuff later today, to try and get this sorted, thank you =D

Did you hit "Open" button in play store after installing?

Tried that and also after installing pressing "home" button straight away, tried this with different launchers as well =/

Right, went a bit extreme, did a factory reset and nothing, tried adb to remove the MIUI launcher, hopping it would force the launcher to pop-up, but nothing, after removing MIUI launcher (package com.miui.home), pressing the home button did nothing, I was stuck in settings screen xD, so factory data reset again, jeez, what have they done with this MIUI 10 =/

To change default launcher go to settings -> Home screen and recents -> change default launcher. I'm on Miui 10 Dev 8.9.6 but I've always seen that option even on 8.8.3. I always install Lean launcher when I first get my new phones. Hope this helps.

Tried that as well, did not work, the only solution I found was removing the MIUI launcher through ADB. Sold my Max 3 and ordered again, but this time I got the official Global version it is quicker to re-order then waiting for the bootloader unlock permission xD should get it this Friday... Thanks for your reply =)

Go Launcher Ex uninstall = Black Home screen bug

i was using go launcher ex and when i uninstall it, my home screen was stuck with a black home screen with only notification bar at top ..... A chance i had made a ROM backup with Rom Manager earlier or my phone will still be stuck on that black home screen.
Hard reset didnt help to repair phone
Lg support tool application from Lg website didnt work too
I wrote this post just to share my experience with Go Launcher Ex and i will never and ever re-install a Go products.
I may be mistaken but it sounds like you didn't have another launcher enabled when you uninstalled go launcher ex. That's why you ended up with the black screen with the notification bar.
Hi,
did you uninstall the LG Home Launcher before installing GoLauncher? If so, you don't have a launcher installed on your phone right now. In that case it's more your personal failure than a problem with GoLauncher... sorry.
Your Android Phone needs a Launcher. If you uninstall the stock launcher you have to make sure that already another one is in place and vice versa. If not it will end with the black screen you mentioned.
Good luck next time.

Cool down, i thought you want some help? It was my guess, because exact the same thing happened to me back in the days...
Where is your LG Home launcher now?
I bet the stock launcher is frozen via TiBu.

Yeah something like this, its definitly deactivated... not a specific GoLauncher problem. Would be interesting to know, where the LG Home Launcher is hiding.

Good question ...... i was able to receive call, sms, but wasnt able to make call (because of black screen) the Rom manager backup had save my phone
i just weird that the uninstallation had hide/remove/delete etc the Lg launcher....
I see, had the same problem once as i'd no-bloated the LG Launcher. I also had to restore my backup, no way to get the launcher installed again.
That's what happened to me, but luckily I have Debug mode enabled so I just connect the phone with PC, and use adb shell to launch Titanium Backup to defrost the Home launcher.
So if you luckily have Debug mode enabled before you black-screen accident:
1. Install Android SDK on your PC which include adb shell
2a. If you froze the Home launcher with TiBu and want to defrost it, open adb shell from command line and follow this link to launch Titanium Backup: stackoverflow.com/questions/4567904/how-to-start-an-application-using-android-adb-tools
2b. If for some reason 2a doesn't work, or you didn't froze the LG Home launcher but it is not loaded for some reasons, reinstall Go Launcher or any other launchers using Sideload Wonder Machine (google for it)

A good tip for all is: always enable debug mode then you can solve a lot of problems with your PC!

Homescreens/Google Now

Flashed the latest factory image to my Nexus 7 (2013), cannot seem to slide to the right for Google Now (looked thorugh settings), nor does it seem I can delete unused homescreens. Any suggestions/known issues?
Lollipop doesn't come with the Google Now Launcher as the default. You'll need to install the Google Now Launcher from the playstore if you haven't already. After you install that, once you press the home key it should ask you which launcher you want to use. Make sure you choose the correct Google Now Launcher, select "Always" and you should be good to go.
If you have already installed the Google Now Launcher, I would suggest uninstalling it and then reinstalling it.
What worked for me...

I had just had the same experience. Factory image with Google Now installed. I found that I needed to go into "Google Settings" and "Search & Now". For some reason, Google Now was switched off. I turned it on and now I have my swipe for Google Now back. I hope this helps.

Tried to install G5 Home launcher on my G4 and now i'm stuck with EasyHome only

Guys, i tried to install the G5 launcher from apk mirror (https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/lgelectronics/homeux-4-0/), there was an error or something and now i can only select Easy Home as launcher. The Home&App Drawer (stock G4 Launcher) is no longer compatible and can't select it. I dont even understand how this could happen because i dont have root and my phone is stock.
Also i cant just uninstall updates for Launcher because there is not this option. I dont know hot to go back without a factory reset and that would be time consuming.
Do you guys mind to post the Stock G4 Launcher apk here so i can give it a try ?

[Request] need stock Huawei Launcher

Can someone please upload Chinese version of the stock launcher (com.huawei.android.launcher)? I uninstalled mine to use Nova Launcher. Everything is fine but turned out I can't remove screen lock without the stock launcher. The system warns me that if I remove the screen lock it will revert back to stock launcher and then nothing happens since it doesn't find the stock launcher. Thank you.
Actually I realized how to retrun it back. When I uninstalled the stock launcher I only uninstalled for the current user (user 0). The apk itself is still on the phone. To return it back I used this command:
adb shell cmd package install-existing com.huawei.android.launcher

I likely can't help you.
But ... I finally got the ****s with using my work around for not having the swipe to home screen while using NOVA. I was using the dreaded home via dot. I guess it worked ok, but was just not fluid enough. I am thankful for seeing this here, as I can now revert back to stock launcher ---- sob.
My thoughts though, if it isn't workign, permissions are not ok for adb or you don't have usb debugging on in system/developer options
Cheers.

I can remove all apps except stock launcher
I could before b195
Now i can't
Here you go.....
Download it to your Google drive, then from your Google drive download it to your device and install, you shouldn't get the error doing it that way.

Question Constantly restarting Nubia launcher

Hi folks , my Nubia launcher is constantly restarting , no matter if I restart the phone . only when I clear cache & appdata then I stops until it's starting again a while later . when I use another launcher it works until some times later the default launcher is again the nubia launcher and then looping again . I cannot deactivate the stock launcher , when I change the standart launcher it works for a while . I have to rearrange my Homescreen every time . what can I do ?

Download the following apk
ADB AppControl

adbappcontrol.com
You can use it to deactivate or even uninstall the stock launcher.

You should first try to set the other launcher to be the default launcher then you do not have to deactivate the stock launcher.
Go to setting then applications then App info. Press the three dots in the upper right corner . Choose Default app settings, then Desktop. You can then set the default launcher.

Of course I did change the default launcher in the settings but it didn't help . it's always going back to stock after severel hours . and then it's looping
I found it is not enough to set your preferred launcher as default, what I found worked is go in to the app settings for the Nubia launcher and clear the app defaults, then select the home button and select your preferred launcher as always. This worked for me.
I some ideas, but sure can help or not:Set your preferred launcher as default launcher, and then use ice box app to deactivate the stock launcher, gesture may not work after deactivate the stock launcher.
The second way is : extract the stock launcher app from an official rom, and install the stock launcher app again , to see work or not
