slowdown after Sept. update - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

I ran the betas and was very pleased with performance. After the official September update my phone seems laggy.
Anyone else seeing similar lag? It's across a variety of apps.

Yeah few lags.. But more of big problem for me is im facing big camera issue and i dont know why it is occurring... Its just so bad quality right now... If anyone knows whats wrong with my pixel pls help stupid pie

Myself experienced the lag displaying the launcher icons after having the phone screen what i see is a wallpaper only for about 10 seconds. Anyone has a fix for that?

I have no problems with Pie's September update whatsoever - except of a RADAR trap warning App which has still to be adjusted to Pie. At least the DEV says they are working on it...
What I did was:
- Clean install Android 9 DP2
- Installed all updates from there without any clean install (since May IIRC)
Perhaps you also have to start fresh?

Huge lag. I never thought I'd see this on this phone. Very disappointing.

Nougat reviews?

So now that people are getting 7.0, can we get some feedback? I'm itching to upgrade, but 6.0.1 works so well that I'm scared. Battery life? Performance? Pros, cons?
Edit: Also please detail your upgrade path, eg. Did you hard reset / wipe data? Did you sideload the OTA or are you running a ROM?
Battery's same as MM
Performance same as MM
All working.
Pros: Multitasking (Window's way)
Better notification bar and settings
Root it's now available
Can change the DPI without failures.
Settings redesigned.
Cons: Isn't Xposed available...Yet.

Did you do a hard reset as well, or just an upgrade with existing data? If upgrade, you haven't had the stuttering issues I've seen reported?

I upgrade with TWRP thanks to @flashallthetime
Follow his instructions and all be good.
No bugs for me. No issues.
I did a dirty flash, so no hard reset

Ok, sounds like you flashed a ROM then. Thanks
I received OTA update. No stuttering issue.. Performance is top notch. Battery life is awesome just like MM. Coming from 5X i have been missing double tapping recents to switch between apps on MM, but since the update I'm super happy
I have some stuttering / lagging when I swipe through the homescreens and open the notification drawer.
Performed OTA upgrade in the reteu channel. Seems not a too big issue, but still noticable.

Germany. Got it on 13th February.
Ten days on and it still hasn't rolled out. I wonder if they've found a problem of some kind.
Probably the performance issues hold up the global rollout.
I sideloaded the reteu OTA a week ago. So far there is no change from MM on battery life and performances, the phone is still smooth and super reactive. What I consider as an improvement over MM are the notifications, the split screen and switch between the last two apps, the notification volume fix (gave me a heart attack the first time I got an SMS) and the DPI changer.
I didn't clear the cache not factory reseted the phone, I just sideloaded the OTA like I would've done with a regular OTA.
Is Now on Tap available on Nougat? I highly depend on that.
A link to my short review of sideloaded RETEU in another thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=71222470&postcount=1365
Bottom line: I have no issues, everything runs very well. Nougat is the best Android so far for me.

Yes, it is. It's a Google Play Services related setting.
Ok,so i tried nougat (the prerooted one from here) and went back to MM cause i dont like the display colours on nougat.they look washed to me.i like it better in marshmallow.maybe just me,maybe just the rom.and i had problems with whatsapp notifications.
Any retus owners get the nougat update yet? I'm using a custom ROM right now so I don't know.

I received the ota update and did a factory reset. The only problem I'm facing so far is that I miss a lot of notifications of Gmail and Whatsapp mainly. I have to wake up the phone or even open the app to get the new mails and messages. Could this have some to do with the battery optimization options? In MM the same settings where set with no issues.

I assume you 'download' OTA?
Or is any location known from where a complete 'fastboot' set or 'recovery' update zip can be found?
Has someone a fullzip of the update?
I think Wileyfox can provide you such thing if you ask it on their official Facebook page.
For those of you who have downloaded the update, is it worth it? or would you like to roll back to cyanogen OS marshmallow? why? asking for a friend (AKA me ?)
Hey, I've accepted the OTA update. It runs - but it seems that battery is getting run down very quickly - battery monitor says the hungry application is "bluetooth" - even though I don't think bluetooth is on.

Did OTA update yesterday with another Swift. It got stuck in a bootloop. I contacted support. They were immediately helping. I tried installing the update again from SD, ADB... Now I'm waiting for their developers finding a solution. Btw: The Swift is stock all over.
Is there any "good" reason to install the OTA-Update instead of installing the LineageOS-14.1-nightly build?
Still haven't got it. I've requested it of Wileyfox on their Facebook page.

My friend's phone is still not unlocked and he wants to be sure data stays intact.
check https://we.tl/89tVbuSSyF (URL received from wileyfox)
The OTA update produced a bootloop. I had to do a complete wipe and now Nougat is running. The Wileyfox support was really fast and helpful!
First impressions:
I don't like the truecaller app instead of the good old telephone app. But you don't have to register and can use it to phone.
I haven't been able to remove the Google search bar.
My first impression is that cyanogen is more open and customizable.
I liked the Cyanogen OS because it felt like rooted...

If update is not CyanogenOS then what is it? LineageOS? AOSP? WileyfoxOS? ...
My Swift upgraded fine with the OTA from Wileyfox. However, since the update the battery life is terrible, much worse than before. As mentioned earlier Bluetooth is identified by Android as draining the battery. I mentioned this to Wileyfox tech support who advised to do a full factory reset but this made no difference.
Hi everyone!
I did the update on 7.1.1 OTA.
What bothers me most, is that there seems no way to disable the camera shutter sound.
The general volume settings does not help and in the camera app there is no such button (anymore?).
Anyone else having trouble with this?

I never had a camera shutter sound before the update, with Cyanogenmod on my Swift 1.
The shutter sound even affects other apps, that use the camera, such as PDF scanners.

Any patch notes or info on build: 42.0.A.4.101?

Just received the latest software today and of course it is August 2017 Security Patch but I see that it's 551mb file size and just intrigued as to what's new or anything else...
Has anyone received this and has anybody noticed anything different or performance improvements?

Just seems relatively large for just a security update, so far device performance seems a lot better. Haven't had a lot of System UI crashes as before and like others have experienced and not getting tinny sound now and then I was receiving before. I just think recording performance within the camera could be improved too...

Multi touch issues with 8.1 in FPS games

Is anyone else having multitouch issues with FPS games. I have tested this on Guns of Boom and Dead trigger 2 the multitouch responses will randomly go crazy and I cannot control the aim especially in guns of boom, it's not as bad in Dead trigger 2 but still there. This was not present in 8.0.
Google is aware of the issue and there are also multiple reports with the latest 8.1 release.
https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/68724748
Google is aware.
Deleted duplicate post.
Any update on this ,
Bump nevertheless
Seriously , no one bothered to reply back,
Nothing seems to be happening on that issue tracker page as well . Should this be raised in Google product forums ,
Why is this thing not being taken seriously , if one goes to the issue tracker page , then one will know that all pixel 2 devices suffer from it
https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/68724748
Please star this more recent report. The one listed here is for the developer preview and they "deferred it to a future release".
https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/70344455
Google appears to have drivers for 8.0 that should fix the issue but I am not sure how to install. https://developers.google.com/android/drivers
A custom 8.1 ROM may do the trick.
One reason I bought this phone was to not run a custom ROM, yet still get frequent updates. Google needs to fix this, quick!

I'm back on 8.0 as well. I wish they'd hurry up and fix this. Shouldn't have to run an older release on a brand new phone for it to function properly.
Issue touching other devices too... I'm on Android 8.1 custom ROM for OnePlus 3 and I have this problem too.
This is disappointing from Google, so much big games have been released, these are the main reason to buy a powerful phone so it would be cool to got them working.
I just noticed the touchscreen bug this week. I'm on 8.1 with the Jan. update and I just started gaming on my p2 xl. Primarily angry birds 2 and online shooters. For AB2 it's flawless.
But for ALL of the shooters I play ( modern combat versus, unkilled, guns of boom, deadheads, and Bullet Force) the multi-gesturing (one thumb swiping left while the other simultaneously swipes right or up) can often cause disoriented /inaccurate movement registration.
It's my 1st major gripe with this phone. The p2 xl is fantastic otherwise. And............ on an unrelated note - if you want to play an impressive online shooter that can run 2k /60 frames a second AND do so with ALL the settings set to ULTRA.... try playing Bullet Force! The game runs like a dream on the pixel 2! Apart from the Oreo 8.1 multi-gesture anomalies.... but that's not the game's fault..... it's Google's

Meh...some say it does, others not. I'm not a gamer so I really can't say. I do think it helps with touch input with texting though. As with anything with android....YMMV ?

Question Oxygen OS 12 Idle Touch Sampling Rate

In the "touchMultiTest" tool, the touch sampling rate remains 0, untill the finger is moved quite a bit, the resultant feedback is abrupt and inaccurate.
Noticable while sniping in PUBG and scrolling slowly.
This is an extremely annoying issue which was nonexistent in Android 11 older 0xygen OS
This problem is present in all the Android 12 builds of OOS/color OS.
Can others confirm this and bring it to OnePlus' attention?
What can i do to let OnePlus know about this on their "community" app?
Quite possibly the app needs to be updated for the feature to work with newer API

Not an app specific issue.
1. If you have a thick case on that doesn't let heat out your SOC might throttle
2. If you have a screen protector /tempered glass on, try without it or try RMA

Tried all that, i can confirm that this is an issue with OOS 12 and Color OS 12.
All the other Android 12 custom ROMS that I've tried, does not have this problem.
Its an issue specific to OOS 12.
This problem has persisted from way back, since the DP2 (Developer Preview 2) release.

I experienced a whole lotta jank on all of their A12 builds. I never got around to installing OB3, but I did install the build that apparently broke everyone's data (oddly it didn't break mine). I think OB2 was by far the most stable build they put out for A12.
I tried PA for a bit but I'm a features guy and went back to OOS11.

Also im currently on the C.44 build of OOS 12 on my LE2125.
Idk what OnePlus did, but the touch "deadzone" issue is non-existent ONLY in PUBG mobile.....things are perfect there.
But its present everywhere else and in all the other games ( PUBG New State, COD Mobile, etc) ...
The touch "deadzone" issue is undeniably apparent now...
Easily observed when switching between "PUBG New State" and "PUBG Mobile"

I was having the issue in the launcher even. In c.60
Even using Facebook and all other apps. During scrolling and holding the scroll with a finger
The problem very well does still persist throughout c.61.
By "system fluency", OnePlus probably means animation improvements.
