Locked bootloader, no baseband, greyed out OEM unlocking after flashing OCX27.109-36 - Moto Z2 Force Questions & Answers

Hello,
I have a problem with my Z2 Force TMO US version. I live in Poland. I bought the phone on the internet and it was TMO simlocked. I did the temporary unlock to check if it is working. Then I wanted to flash custom rom (DU in this case) and my problems has begun.
1. After first attempt of unlocking boot I got it unlocked but couldn't flash any custom rom. I figured out it is TWRP problem (flashed 3.2.2-2 not 3.2.1.1).
2. Flashed TWRP 3.2.1-1 and I was able to flash custom rom.
3. After flashing custom rom I lost phone signal: I'm getting no service and zero signal bar. I checked *#*#4636#*#* and noticed that I have radio off. I had IMEI and BASEBAND then.
4. I tried many other roms to get my signal back but no success.
5. I flashed stock TMO and was able to unlock simlock temporary again but it has no service and signal again. Radio is off.
6. Today I tried flashing stock OREO OCX27.109-36 with locking bootloader now I'm stuck.
I have locked bootloader and no baseband which means I don't have any signal or WIFI (mac is 0). I can't connect to google account so I can't get oem unlocking option - it's greyed out.
Can somebody help me with enabling OEM unlock? Or even better can somebody help me with getting signal back?
Thanks in advance for reply.

Try flashing the newest TMO firmware, which is the only thing you can flash with a locked bootloader. Check post #2 of the return to stock thread for the flashall utilities and the TMO flashall. The latest firmware provided for TMO is ocx27.109-51-7

You can do it
, I already had this issue with my moto z2 force in Morocco , so what I did is I connected the phone to internet via bluetooth and when I added my google accounte the unlocking oem in dev option was normal , so I was able to flash roms again . Hope this will help you.

Use pdanet app, you need two Android devices. Connect using Bluetooth...

Thank you guys. BT tethering helped. Thread can be closed.

How did you connect to Bluetooth to get through first start up? I can't get to Bluetooth settings to pair. I have this issue currently...

[Q] No signal after flashing Miui

Hi Guys, I am having a weird problem that needs your help. I have been using my unlocked Nitro HD (P930) with the official stable CM9 rom. After hearing all the goods of miui, i gave it a try (with full wipe, data/factory reset, cache partition, and Dalvik Cache). After flashing it, the first thing that poped out said the network is locked and the page for sim unlock was shown. I thought the miui might re-lock my sim so I entered my unlock code. Then it said, "andorid.com has stopped". All i could do is to forget the unlock and went on to the miui home screen. After that my phone cannot pick up any signal at all. I used nano backup to restore my original CM9, everything seemed to work fine but it just couldn't pick up any signal. I went to mobile network settings to select the netwrok operators, it failed everytime. I tried entering 2945#*930# in dialer, it only said "Mobile network not available".
I tried to flash the same miui or my CM9 rom again, but my phone still couldn't pick up any signal.
Thanks if anyone can help.

Have you checked your APN settings?
you may need to reflash another baseband as CWM doesn't backup baseband so your phone failed even after restoring. I think you can find the cwm-flashable baseband on the forum.

I set and save the APN but the APNs page remains blank after I have entered things like PROXY, MCC, etc.

Thanks for the reply. I found Drumist's threat about those CWM flashable baseband. I tried the v10j and the v10f, but none of them work. Sorry for asking this dumb question but what should I do next?

Someone else commented before about their phone re-locking itself without explanation. The solution was just to unlock it again. I'm assuming you still have the unlock code?
The problem is that custom ROMs are incapable of unlocking the phone. You have to return to a stock ROM to perform the unlock, after which you can then return to a custom ROM. The stock ROM can be a CWM-flashable version for convenience.

1. 2945#30# is to bring up the sim lock page, where you can enter your unlock code. But it seems to me it doesn't work when your phone is already unlocked or you have a custom rom (just like what Drumist said)
2. I wiped it every time I flash a new rom just to make sure my phone is complete "clean", but I have no idea what it does :silly:

Seems you are having the same problem as I do. Simply flash back to stock rom and then enter the sim unlock code again, then your phone should be back to normal.

[Q] Unlock bootloader not found anywhere online

Hey guys. I'm very new and have spent the last few days researching about how the whole rooting, unlocking sim, unlocking bootloader, flashing radios and installing customer ROM's work.
From what I understand the process all start with having an unlocked bootloader so that you can install a recovery like TWRP. From there, you can flash ROM's, radios and kernels (if you want to) via zip files, from an micro sd card.
**please let me know if I understand this process correctly**
The problem is, I can't find a single place online (searched on this site and on google for over an hour straight last night) that actually tells you specifically for my model I317M with 4.1.1 (if that matters, I'm not sure) HOW to unlock the bootloader. I've seen a lot of people asking and no answers.
If someone could please tell me exactly HOW to unlock the bootloader for my phone that'd be amazing.
Is flashing the bootloader done via odin? (there is an option in odin for it) If not, how do you flash a bootloader?

You are lucky to have the device you do because the bootloader isn't locked! Some carriers lock the bootloader on some devices (it varies, like note 2 on at&t is unlocked but note 4 is locked). Some manufacturers even offer instructions or tools to unlock (ie htc offers Dev tools, on Google's nexus line it's a simple adb command "fastboot oem unlock").
Now for the i317, the procedure is simple. Gain root access with cf auto root (it's a tar.md5 file you flash with Odin. As a side note: Odin is a tool you will come to love because it can fix nearly anything you break. Just load the stock firmware for your device in Odin, flash and done. From there you can reroot or remain stock). Once you have root access after flashing cf auto root, have your custom recovery tar.md5 on hand to also flash in Odin.
So Odin, cf auto root, and recovery of your choice. (To flash the phone with Odin, the phone must be in download mode: vol-, home, power. Connect to computer and load up Odin)
Once you have flashed your root files and recovery, you can then enter recovery by holding vol+, home, and power, make a backup of your current stock setup, and then flash whatever rom you like as long as it's compatible with your device.
One more piece of advice: if you want to do anything like carrier unlock the device, I would do it now while you're on 4.1.1. In kitkat 4.4.2 and above some of the built in functionality of dialer codes and such were removed by Samsung... and people looking to carrier unlock who have already updated have to go through the tedious downgrade procedure to do so. Therefore, if that is something you are planning on needing at some point (or to just up the resale value of the device a bit), go ahead and root + recovery, then carrier unlock the device using dialer codes as specified in some of these threads. Then you can flash whatever you want and nothing can undo that unlock (mine is an att i317 on tmobile, so I highly recommend carrier unlock, you never know when you might need it!) Just do it before you move from 4.1.1 if you do want to do it
Good luck

Wow! Thanks a lot for that detailed reply. I wasn't expecting that
I managed to get a recovery installed and working. I've tried two ROMs today and that was neat. ( I put them on the external sd card and flashed the .zip from recovery ). Now my main problem is, finding a ROM that actually works decently (any suggestions would be nice) and unlocking the sim.
Now, I was on 4.1.1. and when I was there, I followed these steps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2014982 and it seemed to have worked. It went just like the steps said it would.
Then, I actually went to a WIND mobile store today and asked if I could use a SIM to see if it would work with their network. It didn't (their network didn't show up on my phone )
I've since then tried that old method again but I am getting this error "connection problem or invalid mmi code" So I couldn't try doing that again.
Now I'm kinda stuck. I have been trying to find out if I can flash the radio with some firmware to fix it but I've had no luck finding anything.
I know this is a newish problem, but if you can guide me in the right direction or help me out I'd appreciate it. Otherwise, I might just have to buy a new phone.

Im at work so I don't have a lot of time to explain, but the unlock probably worked fine. However, when you add a new Sim, you also have to program the access point name (or more commonly, APN). If you don't set the apn, the phone won't know which network to connect to. You may use a wind sim but if you still have the apn set for tmobile, it's gonna look for tmobile's network.
Apns can be configured under settings > more networks > mobile networks > access point names. You can have multiple apns programmed and switch between them as often as you switch sim cards. Search for wind apn and you'll figure it out (I keep a text file with lists of tmobile and at&t apns just in case.
Also you probably flashed a newer rom where Samsung/Google have removed the built in dialer codes, so you won't be able to use them anymore, but you can launch the codes you need using shortcut master (an app) where you can find the code you need and launch it fine with root permissions.

I317m sim relocked after flashing 6.0.1

The problem was resolved after flashing stock, reunlock, then restore. I will report if problems comeback.
Hello,
My phone was unlocked (not sure how, bought it second hand years ago) and used it fine on 4.4 custom rom. Ive updated it onthursday to the revolution 6.0.1 (with 3.0.2 twrp, nano open gappsa) and used it fine without problems on thursday.
However, yesterday, it lost cell signal and would not reconnect. So i rebooted the phone and now it is asking me to put sim unlock pin. What is the best course of action to get unlocked 6.0.1? I couldn't find an unlock method for 6.0.1. Should i backup rom, go back to 4.4, unlock, then restore?
Thank you.
It's asking for the sim pin or network unlock pin?

SIM Network unlock pin. My modem/bootloader is I317MVLBMA3. Do you think i can safely load a 4.1.1 rom and unlock again?
If i install phone info+ and look under secret codes, it does list the code for unlocking, but if i click on it, it gives me a blank page titled "service mode" but doesn't do anything (none of the three methods of entering work under the app). Probably because it is not stock ROM?
I tried searching for stock I317MVLALJ2 ROM to downgrade easily, but it seems like the link is down. I guess ill have to use ODIN.
EDIT:
Can I use TWRP to flash http://stockroms.net/file/GalaxyNote2/SGH-I317M/I317MVLALJ2_I317MOYAALJ2_RWC.zip stock ROM? Or do I have to use ODIN? I am assuming I can as it is a zip rather than img, and as long as I flash recovery right after flashing rom, I shouldn't lose recovery either?
Thank you.
The easiest way would be to flash a stock 4.1.1 rom in Odin. I am fairly certain you can downgrade as I think I downgraded from 4.3 or 4.4.2 on a Koodo note 2 so I could use it on Rogers. If it's not possible to downgrade, Odin will stop.

Thank you for the reply. I am currently on 6.0.1, but since modem is 4.4.2 ish, i hope that's okay. I will try ODIN. The zip i mentioned above is not a TWRP flashable zip, so I guess I have to use ODIN. The thing that worries me, though, is the fact that I cannot get to the recovery mode from off. I press and hold the volume up-power- home combo, but it keeps on resetting without entering TWRP. The only way for me to enter recovery right now is using a custom rom restart menu. If I go to stock ROM, I won't be able to access the recovery .
EDIT: If I let go of the power button at a certain time while booting, it seems to go into recovery just fine.. The problem is, that timing is tricky.
For flashing a stock rom, you need download mode so don't worry about getting into recovery.
To enter stock recovery, power off and try holding power, volume up, and home. Once the phone boots, let go of power but keep holding home and volume up until you see the dead android, then let go of all buttons.

Success. Thank you very much. So I've done the factory reset and successfully rebooted the phone. Then applied the unlock method, which seemed to have worked. Does not ask for SIM unlock pin. However, it does not seem to actually lock cellular signal. It still says 'Emergency Calls Only'. I am on Mobilicity, which used to be AWS, but now I believe is under Rogers. I know mobilicity used to take a while to connect, but I doubt that is the same now. This may be due to the old modem, so I will try updating the modem back to the 4.4 one... wish me luck
EDIT:
Without the modem update, it just connected to mobilicity !
Now the issue is, whether this phone will re-lock again once I flash 6.0.1...
Thank you very much audit13 for your live help!!
I will post back in a week or so (hopefully I remember...) whether this unlock sticks.
The 317m does not natively support was frequencies. You'll have to software enable was support.
You mean it doesn't ask for network unlock pin?

Yup. It unlocked for sure. But that is no different than what I had before updating to 6.0.1. I've used the phone without problems on Mobilicity for 2-3 years.
Mobilicity is no longer AWS, so it has no problems connecting to the network. It just takes a while, especially with the 4.1.1 modem...
Now I'm just restoring the TWRP backup that I have made on 6.0.1 to see if the unlock sticks.
The unlock stayed for my phone when I installed a custom rom.

Yes, that was the case yesterday as well. It stuck for a day, but after the cell lost the signal once (zero bars, emergency calls only), the phone got re-locked.
Now that I have restored the 6.0.1 backup, the phone is back up and running with it unlocked. Now ill will see how long this lasts.
Thank you very much for your continued support
I am having this issue now.. but the strange thing is that I've flashed to the Resurrection 6.0 rom a while back and it was working fine. Until a while ago I was pokemon hunting and all of a sudden my network died and its been asking me for a sim network pin... I was getting the intermittent network disconnect when I was on the Pokemon go app too long but it would reconnect back to the network after a short time.. not sure if it has something to do with the game app. Well, now I've downloaded the latest Resurrection rom and flashed it again doing a factory wipe but still nothing. I'm going to try and flash the modem and see if that helps.
EDIT: forgot to mention I'm on Koodo network which is also Telus, I believe. But now it wants to automatically connect to the rogers network hence I'm assuming its asking for the PIN.
(edited for grammar)
This is really strange that this happens. I've unlocked a few note 2 phones and none of them have relocked.
Did you change the csc in the phone settings to Koodo?

Csc is a carrier customization file. If you change the csc, which can be done using a stock rom, you can choose the carrier for whom the rom phone was intended. I choose Telus as a carrier because they have very little bloatware.

no radio - no GSM service. bootloader unlocked

1.) PHONE ORIGINALLY LOCKED TO SPRINT
so i bougt this phone second hand in Europe. The phone had a bad screen and possibly some other damage i don't know about. Anyway, it turned out that the phone was locked to Sprint and i could not use it with my sim-card.
2.) PAID A GUY ON EBAY
https://www.ebay.com/itm/SPRINT-SIM...M-G710PM-CONVERT-TO-UNLOCKED-G7-/302468495217
I paid that guy (i do believe that he is also a member of the XDA community) and he ensured me that the phone was now unlocked and that i could use it with my sim-card. Under settings - hardware info it said model number was G710VM (or VMP or VMW, i don't remember exactly, but it was verizon wireless). the problem was that my phone still could not connect to the network. also, hidden menu *#*#4636#*#* was not accessible. Moreover, wi-fi connectivity was... mixed bag. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it did not work.
(in case the link is dead - he used octoplus to do the thing he did)
(he probably participated in this discussion: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g7-thinq/help/lg-g7-sprint-unlock-t3823449)
3.) UPDATE TO PIE
https://www.****************/2019/06/17/download-and-install-lg-g7-android-9-pie-via-kdz-firmware/
After following these steps to get the Pie update (which i hoped would be the solution to my problems). Phone now reported it was G710ULM. Also, on lock screen in the top left corner it said 'No service - Mobitel'. Mobitel is the service provider here, so i was kinda hopeful, since it seemed that the phone can detect the network, but cannot connect. Hidden menu *#*#4636#*#* was accesible, but it only helped with my wi-fi connection. The 'select radio band' always reports 'selection unsuccessful'. I still could not set network manually or automatically for that matter (always error when i tried). I also tried the 10f firmware (oreo) and some others, but no luck. after i unlocked the bootloader i also performed the 'erase modemst1 modemst2' commands before flashing a new firmware but that also did not help.
(in case the link is dead - basically flashing firmware via LGUP)
4.) UNLOCKING THE BOOTLOADER
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g7-thinq/how-to/how-to-bootloader-unlock-g7-thinq-t-t3963568
So this is where it is at at the moment. I followed this steps and now it reports product name LM-V350ULM and 'device state - unlocked' in the bootloader. If i boot it into recovery mode i just get the dead android with the red warning sign and 'no command' written under it. The device could access internet via wi-fi... until i put in the simcard. Now it cannot see the network anymore. If i repeat the command 'fastboot boot 710ULM11g_rootedboot.img' i get wifi back.
5.) THE POINT BEING?
Yeah. the point of this thread is obviously - what can i do to get the network?
This is my first android phone and yeah, quite the introduction to the android world that is.
Obviously i can (hardly, but i can) follow these step-by-step instructions, but apart from that, i have no idea what to do or how to do it. So yeah, this phone is pretty much just a wifi machine unless someone can help me.
I did unlocked my bootloader following this tutorial
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g7-thinq/how-to/how-to-bootloader-unlock-g7-thinq-t-t3963568
Why is your device showing V350ULM (that is U.S. Unlocked V35 Thinq)? Reflash G7 pie firmware from Europe and access #*#*4636*#*# and change the network to GSM/WCDMA/LTE and check if it picks up the network.

it's showing V350ULM because i unlocked the bootloader via the method described here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g7-thinq/how-to/how-to-bootloader-unlock-g7-thinq-t-t3963568
there is no other known method to unlock the bootloader on any LG G7 thinq except for the european version.
If i reflash the G7 pie firmware my bootloader gets locked again. I know because i already did that. While I had that firmware i also dialed *#*#4636#*#*, but when i change the network nothing really happens. If i choose the 'select radio band' sub-menu i always get the 'unsuccessful' message no matter which band i choose.

I unlocked my bootloader using the same method and it will not lock bootloader if you flash pie firmware (once it's unlocked it's unlocked). And my G7 is showing as G710ULM not V350ULM (using the same method to cross flash firmwares). Make sure to flash European pie firmware.

Bypass network lock?

Has anyone flashed the retail/retus image from mirrors.lolinet.com on this to use with a different carrier? Boost requires you to use their services for 12 months before you're eligible for network unlocking
It will most likely work
I can confirm that flashing retus to the Boost variant works fine to unbrand the device.

Any issues with connecting to the network or lte? Or is everything running like it normally should? Cause if so that's very interesting

Worked fine on the Boost network when I tried it.
Flashing RetUS firmware
Earlier this month I picked up a Boost Moto G Fast. I was disappointed to find how much bloatware came with it and that it doesn't include WiFi calling. I have not unlocked the bootloader while I decide if I want to keep this phone or not.
I just downloaded RetUS firmware from lolinet.com.
Do you have instructions for flashing this firmware? I couldn't find any for this phone so I was planning to tweak the instructions for flashing the Moto G7 series at https://forum.xda-developers.com/g7-power/how-to/guide-moto-g7-power-supra-flash-to-t3927138
Any idea if I can flash this without unlocking the bootloader? I'm assuming the factory image is signed by Motorola and should be accepted by the bootloader without unlocking.
Do you have to wipe userdata after flashing or can you keep your apps and data intact since the firmware should be the same version?
Does the RetUS firmware support WiFi calling?
I'll probably be able to answer these questions myself soon enough but I thought I'd ask first.
So after flashing the retus firmware myself on my moto g fast from boost mobile, inserting my active SIM card from tmobile did not work and the uicc said it's still lock to sprint network so I don't believe we can get network unlock simply by flashing different firmware on this

I found instructions for flashing Sofia here, should also apply to Rav: https://www.droidwin.com/install-stock-firmware-on-motorola-g8-power-via-fastboot-commands/

Nope. I bricked my phone trying. Do not attempt to flash anything without unlocking the bootloader first.
Flashing the the firmware doesn't remove the carrier lock. Currently have mine on RETUS stock and it still says it's on the Sprint network and the software channel says "Boost."
Unfortunately it doesn't look like there is anyone out there able to unlock these devices either.
I also been trying to work with this...no avail. So far:
Unlocked bootloader since unboxing in December...thanks Motorola developers..
I lost count on how many times I bricked this phone.... probably 7..
I sent it over to MX last month to see how it behaved. They couldn't activate. "Phone is too new'...WTH..
Now is sitting on my night stand. With games apps, Kodi...just waiting to be flashed again. PS: I hate you boost mobile!!

I switched away from Boost back in December and recently switched back, so now I can answer this question. No, the RetUS firmware does not support WiFi calling.
