Sounds not loud enough - Xiaomi Mi Max 3 Questions & Answers

Hello guys, i love my mi max 3 (global) however ever since i switched to this phone i was missing notifications like fb messenger or others simply because i couldnt hear them. This phone is capable to do loud sounds (eg YT video ) but even on max volume the notification sounds are nowhere near the media sound.... And iam using exactly the same .mp3s for notifications aswell as ringtone which i used on my previous phone equiped with only a single bottom speaker.
Dont get me wrong.. they are loud but not very loud for me to hear them at busy places
I would like to know ur thoughts and ideas
Peace

weird, I'm on xiaomi eu and I think they are to loud. Of course I haven't gotten many notifications that mouch so I dunno for sure.
The phone is very loud compared to my old Xperia Z1.
You could install viper4android and amplify the sound level..

The only thing bothering me that i know when i play a song it can get very loud but when i have max volume on ringtone/notification its nowhere near it.
Maybe we will see it change a bit at MIUI 10 which could also fix the lag on full screen gestures...
I will look into viper but as far as i know it requires root ..

[HOW TO] You don't need Volume+!

I turned my phone to full volume and played a sound in an application and noticed that it wasn't THAT loud.
So I opened the SETTINGS, Sound, Volumes, where there were three sliders, one of which is labelled "Music video, games & other media. The default postion of slider was about 33%. So I ramped it up to 100%, and guess what? The applications sounds were three times louder! The phone speakers are now LOUD.
Sorry if this has been reported before, but I hadn't noticed it so I thought others might benefit from reading this.
up all the way and too quiet for me without volume+
the default ringtones are far more quiet than the older ones btw, but volume+ helps.
All the 3 at max for me and still wasn't enough. volume+ did it for me!

The volume rocker by default only changes the phone (i.e. ringtone/notification) volume. When media is playing, the behavior of the volume rocker changes to control the media volume...
Ah, thanks for the replies with the more extensive explanations. So Volume+ is effective beyond the max volume.

Most of people's complaints about the speaker volume is in regards to notifications and ringers.
I made my own ringtone and amplified it using audacity. Its incredibly loud.
volume plus is the only thing that worked
now are most of you using volume+ with the stock rom or?

Stock rom here, but i and many others use equalizer by smarter apps, its excellent. Both apps though tie into the system audio api.
In most of my experiences volume is always an issue... in fact the only phone I know to be loud enough is the iPhone... Did Apple patent noise?
Same for me, not enough without Volume+
I cant get volume+ working With Codename rom and franco's kernel

I may be just bias, but my OG Droid put any and all iPhone's to shame regarding loudness of volume.
With volume+ my Gnex puts every other phone to shame

No noise patent I don't think - at least not yet. The iPhone was built from the iPod though, so they no doubt wanted to emphasize music from day 1.
That said, my Vibrant with Voodoo sound could get painfully loud. But only after installing voodoo.

I think so, but volume+ is not the only app you can use to get a louder speaker. I use a free and very basic equalizer with almost the same effect and with 1/6 of the size.
If you need more than that, volume+ is recommended and It's a very small app too (86k free version and 157k full).
One last thing: be careful. Start with a low volume or you can damage your speaker.
The iphone is far from being loud "enough." There are many phones that are louder, and can be made even louder with either voodoo or volume+

[Q] Very loud speakers, what to do?

Hi!
The volume of the speaker is much to loud, compared with my old Z. I am speaking from media sounds (like music in games), ringtones are ok. Of course i put the volume down to the minimum, but that's still to loud. Xloud is turned off.
Any idea how to get the volume down? XZ1C with unlocked bootloader, root, Advanced stock kernel and .142.
Thanks!

Used to it... I don't think that's the problem, with my Z I could play a game at bed without disturbing my wife, with the Z1C that's not possible cause it's much louder than the Z was .

Notification Volume

Is everyone's notification volume lower than full volume? Notification volume as in ringtone, alarm, and notification sounds.
I can go to Zedge and preview a ringtone, and it sounds great. I set it as my default ringtone, and it is only 2/3 the volume the preview was. My stock notification sounds also seem to be about 2/3 volume.
I have went into every setting I can imagine, with no results. If anyone has any ideas how I can fix this without root, or at least test it out and confirm it is a Pixel thing, I will feel better. Lol. Thanks!

Everything is max. I'm not sure what it could be. It may be this way on all of them. I just noticed BC I don't have the best hearing and need the extra volume that I seem to be missing. I go to find the loudest ringtone I can find, then set it, and notice it isn't quite as loud as the preview was. I had to do a couple tests to make sure I wasn't just imagining it. It isn't a huge difference. Like I said seems like maybe 2/3 as loud. Maybe closer than 2/3 but quieter non the less.

maybe i dont notice it but it sounds pretty close to me and its loud. maybe they have a audio booster for videos and audio and the notifications are set differently.
Thanks for the response. My friend got his pixel yesterday. I'll do some side by side tomorrow and see for sure. Maybe I'm just getting old. Lol.
I just got the pixel xl yesterday and I'm noticing the exact same issue as you. Any alert, ringtone, text alert, alarm etc. When listening to music or to the original alert on Zedge its normal volume. As soon as that same alert is set as a notification it's significantly lower volume. I rebooted in safe mode and same issue so must not be an app related issue.
Coming from a Nexus 6 and 6P, I'm noticing this too. I usually keep my XL in the same desk dock that I used for my 6p, so at first I attributed the lower volume to the sound from the down firing speaker being absorbed by the dock. However, I'm noticing it when it isn't docked too, so I'll be following this thread for a solution.
Mine is also too low. The only phone I have had in the last few years that was loud enough was the Nexus 6. I am thinking of trying the WETA rom to see if I can boost the volume.

I've noticed this on the last few devices which were all Nexus. So I think stock Android is the main culprit. Earlier today the sound was really low. And I noticed because the lock sound it makes when pushing the power button was low. Seemed a reboot fixed it for me but it happens periodically. Did anyone happen to sideload the J build that was accidentally released in Canada?

before the pixel xl, never had this problem....not sure wtf is going on but it's aggravating
I have the exact same issue as the first post 7 months latter! Just got my Pixel XL 3 days ago. The default messages notification sound is just not loud enough on max. I got some louder sounds from the Zedge app. When I listen to it on Zedge, it is louder than I need it. Then I text myself and it is about 2/3 to 1/2 of what I get when I listen though Zedge. I can't hear it form across my house, it is very annoying. Did not have this problem with my iPhone 6s - and the volume was not on max. On the Pixel all 3 volumes are on max. Tried to adjust volume while the phone notifies - that did not help either. I am missing messages. Any ideas would be appreciated.

That's odd. I've only had my Pixel XL for about 5 weeks but all the volumes seem plenty loud to me. You can change the default notification sound to something longer or more noticeable or you can set the phone to vibrate as well when you receive notifications. You can also set notifications to blink the light on the top of your phone which might alert you if you do miss one. Good luck.
Just got a Pixel (not XL) and found this thread and same issue.
If you go above 50% on the ringtone volume it is fine and the notification and ringtone volume are the same, however anything less is definitely noticeably softer.
A way to fix is is to use a MP3 gain modifier but hopefully they fix it in Android O.

Barely hear ringtones and notifications

Are all these phones quite or is it just mine? Alarms are quiet, can barely hear ringtones and notifications. Vibration is weak as well, which causes me to miss calls while in pocket. Don't get me wrong, I love this phone. But my HTC ,10 had loud ringtones and mortifications.

Mine too, I can't bearly hear it so I changed the ringtone from the other phone I have

Might try that.
Agreed, the external speaker volume is dismal at best. I could not even hear the phone ear piece until I flashed Elemental X which allows for ear piece gain... However no gain for external speakers yet.
i have recently had this problem as well. get it replaced. theyll send you a new one overnight if you got one through verizon. mines would be loud initially but after a while it was quite.
My problem is that there is one volume slider for both the ringtone and notification sounds. This is quite limiting (I feel like this was not linked in earlier versions so either they are taking features away or are simplifying things).
Does anyone have any magic tools to un-link these volumes so I can make my ringtone max and notification volume at 50%?

No, that is how stock android is. Other devices, like a Samsung may seperate them. But google leaves them linked by default.
As far as changing that... I really don't know. I leave my phone on vibrate all the time because I have a smart watch that vibrates on my wrists and I can check messages without even taking phone out of pocket.

Yes. I had an issue where if you continuously press the home button it would start out as a decent volume and then decrease. But when any type of audio would play it was super low.

I found a solution to this problem... Volume Butler! It's great, and does exactly what I need it to do (without even buying the "pro" version).

My sounds were all too low for me, i downloaded some iPhone MSG / alarm sounds as well as a Air horn sound and all those sound that i downloaded are much much louder then the default sounds
for me it seems that its something with the software because the speaker is very loud but, for example i download a song, listen to it and it plays very loud but if i set it as ringtone its very low when my phone rings. i was searching in the settings if there is anything to disable but cant find anything
Vibration power on this phone sucks.
I've had the 32gb and 128gb and they were both the same.
I setup the Moto X Pure 2015 for a friend last week.
I used it a half-day to ensure all was working fine.
And realized how much I really miss a proper vibration out of a phone.
Can't stand missing calls in loud places because I didn't notice the phone vibrate in my pocket.
As for ringtones - there are louder ones out there.
I attached a couple of loud ones in the zip.
I setup a Tasker profile to change to one or the other when I'm at parties or other loud places.

Thank you for posting them. The standard Pixel XL ringtones wouldn't wake up a light sleeper on the loudest setting, and most are tunes are kind of dreamy and sleepy. Its been so annoying finding replacement sounds, I installed Alarmy just to get louder sounds and of course soon after my network log starts spiking like crazy, with Alarmy opening multiple connections to facebook/google/etc sending off my data. Out of the entire Pixel XL forum your post was the only one I could find with links to sounds to download that I can load into the standard clock.
Many many tanks, now can get rid of another 3rd party crapware that slurps data like crazy.

Is there any real audio issue with Mi Max (Prime)?

Premise: I know I just opened another topic (but this is a completely different question) and that there are several articles (and potential "fixes") around on XDA and elsewhere, but I see people having the following issues and others not (especially in reviews)
Hi everyone,
I have a simple question: is Mi Max Prime suffering from low sound volume (i.e. below the average)? if yes, is that probleme so severe that - for example - you may not hear the alarm clock or a phone call in speaker mode?
I know there are a couple of fixes around but I also saw many people not solving the issue with those.
Thank you in advance

Would you say the sound is possible to hear from some distance? (like a few meters or another floor)

I'd say, testing any alarm (default one should work) and a pop song music (at your choice).
Here too is night. Feel free to do it when you have a moment
I'm a good guy to ask. Quite deaf, use my phone for an alarm clock. I can hear people when they "force" their voice in close proximity, otherwise break out the pen and paper if I don't have fresh hearing aid batteries.
Alarm clock (alarmy) scares me so bad I try to beat my rise time just to turn it off. Loud, oh hell yea, it's loud.
Talking on the phone I can just make out sounds, without my hearing aids. That's says good things about the phone, because normally I get nothing.
You can always root and edit the mixer_paths in system_ect. Done it many times on my Samsung phones, but as I say, no need (for me) on the Max.
Just got a Mi Max a few days ago, the ring volume I will call it just enough, The only issue is when I hear music with headphone and turn on the Mi Sound effect then the volume will drop a lot, I need to turn off the effect and re-plug the headphone to resume the volume.
The volume has gotten better since Miui 8 and it's good on my RR ROM. YouTube is hit or miss depending on the video you watch. A lot of videos are uploaded with low sound and some with louder sound. Everything else seems okay to me although nothing compares to the sheer loudness of the speakers on my Nexus 6P.
