Change DeX resolution in standalone mode - Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 Questions & Answers

So when you connect to an external screen and use DeX you can adjust the screen resolution via DeX setting
However when using DeX on the tablet only that options is greyed out.
Anyone know a way around this? Would love some more screen space in DeX
Thanks

so found that adjusting the "minimum width" in developer options adjust the DPI in both normal mode and Dex mode.
Now, if i was in Dex and adjusted this setting it did some funky things (such as setting not saving, or not displaying the value correctly). but adjust in normal mode and then switching over to dex seems the most stable.
overall, works well and seems to stick even after restart.

Low brightness fix for Samsung Focus S (Will work on any Samsung device)

Okay I put this together to fix the extremely low brightness on the Samsung Focus S. It simply increases the brightness level of the low setting and brings it closer to the brightness of the low setting on the Focus. It will not do anything if you have your phone on automatic!
Deploy the attached xap to your unlocked device
Open the app (name is File Deployer) and then exit
Go to diagnosis app (dial ##634# to install)
*#9908# for GPRS Manager
Select 'low brightness fix'
Hit Save then Close
Restart!
It has RunADC enabled so it will NOT mess up your signal, data, or MMS settings.
Also, make sure you go to Extra Settings and shut off 'auto display intensity'. Unfortunately the setting doesn't stick (even after the update!) so you will need to go back shut it off after every restart.
Thanks for making this available. Just got the Focus S and the screen is quite dim.
*#9908* doesn't do anything - I had to use *#9908#.
Screen is brighter in both auto and Medium modes.
Can I uninstall File Deployer once I've made the change in the Diagnosis app?
thanks again,
Michael

Yes thanks the correct code is *#9908#
The screen shouldn't be any brighter in medium or auto because it doesn't change the settings for those. If you shut off Auto Display Intensity it will help those settings though. Yes you can uninstall the app after using it.
I have noticed one bug, after you soft reset and turn off Auto Display Intensity again it will go back to the original (very dim) low setting. You'll need to go back to brightness and change it to anything then back to low.
Is this device specific, or will it work with all WP7 devices?
Thinking this should be moved to the Samsung focus forum.
Peace.
Edit The name change works for me. it stays here Thanks
It should work on any Samsung device. It simply edits HKCU\ControlPanel\Brightness\LowBrightness from 0 to 5.
Are we ever gonna get a Focus S forum?
do you also know how to change the auto dimming on the omnia7/focus when there are more than a certain amount of white pixels on the screen?
@clfosk: Pretty sure you don't even need to open the app once. The file that needs to be deployed is copied by the XAP installer itself, not by the app - I suspect the app is a total dummy. You probably do have to run the instructions before uninstalling the app though - it might take the deployed file away with it again otherwise (or it might not, haven't actually tried this yet).

Rotate screen?

Anyone knows how to rotate screen? I tried Closed App Settings but it doesn't work. Tried several other apps and modules. Nothing works to rotate screen.
I need rotation to force Here Maps into portrait mode in which it is possible to access settings and change map location from internal to external SD location. (Yes I know that most other settings are available in driving mode even on landscape but storage location is only available in default settings which are blank in landscape mode - known issue in Here)
The g-sensor on my phone broke, so the automatic screen rotation stopped working for me. So I've been using this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.crape.rotationcontrol&hl=en
It has a menu bar that lets you choose between landscape and portrait mode.
It works well on my phone. Hopefully it works on your radio.
i think you would have to change the allow rotation flag in the mysql db to true to actually get it to rotate and then echo it in there every time the thing starts

Could you please explain it in more details? How to change flag in mysql?
I also need to rotate screen (Here Maps settings are not showing on landscape!).

IIRC you can get to the settings on the bottom of the screen in driving mode.

Dex mode

Using the Samsung keyboard, when I place the Tab S4 in the keyboard groove it automatically goes into Dex mode which is good. But when I go back to portrait mode the tablet stays in Dex mode until I go into Settings to turn off Dex mode. Is there any way to have the Tab S4 automatically exit Dex mode after going back to Portrait mode?
If there is, I haven't found it either. There's an option to disable automatic DeX mode when you attach the cover (which I did, since sometimes I don't want it), but I haven't seen the opposite.
Looking for the same functionality, it seems Samsung didn't think this feature through. Why would you keep DeX mode without the keyboard?

I agree. Even an icon on the desktop you could click to toggle Dex or not Dex would be useful.

There is an icon in the quick launch menu that you pull down or the up arrow in the Dex task bar. That is what I use to toggle back and forth.

Auto Launch Dex When Bluetooth Keyboard Connected?

I'm messing around with an app called Automate to try and create an automatic action to launch Dex when my Bluetooth keyboard is connected. It looks like I would need a command to actually launch Dex. I downloaded Quick Shortcut Maker to see if I could make a shortcut to do this but out of the options it has for Dex, none will do it as far as I can tell. So I am trying to figure out how Dex launches from the Quick Settings Panel, and use that method instead. Anyone have any luck with this?
Try and see how the other Quick Panel buttons work. Figure out how to turn Wifi on/off; Auto-rotation on/off. The flashlight would be a good one, too, since it's primarily only in the Quick Tile.
I have the Samsung keyboard, so there are the connectors on the side of the keyboard that when the case/table are connected controls turning Dex on and off.

Auto Dark Mode for OnePlus 7 Series

Hi
I've got myself an OnePlus 7T and also enjoying my Pixel 4. On the Pixel 4 it is possible via third party app to automate the on/off of Dark Mode. However I cannot see it's possible with the OnePlus 7 Series?
I've heard that it's somehow possible with Tasker. But has anyone here experience with that?
Thanks.
Go into developer options. There should be an option to force dark mode

It's there, but I wouldn't use it. It makes elements/texts wrong color on many apps that probably don't support it.
I.ie grey text on black background,

Yea. Tasker makes it a breeze. You can automate it however you want.
Spesific apps can turn it on, others can turn it off.
Certain schedule, time or days, you can make it every weeknight, two hours Saturday and the whole of Sunday if you want.
Connected to WiFi networks or Bluetooth devices can enable it.
You can even have it enabled during low light only, or under a certain threshold. The list is unlimited ?

Nice. But is this system wide ? Do you have any Tasker scripts or what it's called that can do this? ?
Cheers

Tasker only changes system settings, it doesn't "create" its own stuff. So basically It's simply toggling the dark mode on or off depending on the parameters you set. If your phone has system wide setting, then that's what it'll toggle.
It's an automation tool that can automate what you currently do manually.
Have you got tasker? Have you played with it?
Just create a profile you want, for example: time
Then set the parameters (example 7pm to 7am)
Then choose an action, search for dark mode. You can either set it to toggle or to on/off
If set to on, make an exit task too, again chose dark mode and off.
If you want a certain app to trigger it, then choose that app, etc. You can have an or or conditions etc.
Think: If this and this but not that then X.
Look at tasker tutorials for more parameter alternatives.
