I personally would not use it on a Google device that is currently receiving regular monthly updates, but LOS sure is great on older legacy devices that are no longer supported like my Nexus 7 and Nexus 9 tablets. I also note P2XL is not officially supported so you have to take that into consideration as well. On supported devices you usually get updates once a week and they include security updates.

Google is no longer releasing monthly updates for Oreo. Since Pie is trash in my P2XL, I don't get any more monthly updates. I do hope lineage will support P2XL.

I wouldn't be so harsh on Huawei. They did provide a means to unlock your device. Unfortunately there isn't much in the way of after-market development at the moment. I'd be willing to give it a try but don't really know where to start, however the investigation continues...
<rant>As a side-note, Oppo takes the award for the worst company. As a R7s owner I was surprised at the length they went to stop people developing for this device, and they didn't provide any updates either. If you want to advise anyone which company to avoid, I think Oppo is at the top of the list.</rant>
Yeah it's a real shame. They promised Marshmallow and cancelled it in the end without any information to us users...
Never gonna buy a Huawei again.

There is an Android 6.0 update since a half year. But this don't come over OTA, right? They have canceled this? I could flash it for 6 month. Since this time there come no newer security patches. Really bad by huawei.
The update has broken some things like the launcher. I have must for the person take the settings new. Maybe that was the reason for cancel. Just flashable, no OTA, so do you mean it, right?
For M2-801L (lte-version) we have used the B206. Looks that huawei's developer had gotten no much time for this device. So no official roll out possible. For P8 Lite they roll out every month security patches. Crazy for a cheap phone.

Samsung are no better.
I have lost count of the amount of Samsung devices that I have owned that have never had more than one or two very minor updates and then been abandoned by them.
My last tablet was the Galaxy TabPRO 8.4, it was released as part of their flagship range at the time, got 3 or 4 security patches then abandoned by them - only ever had 4.4.2 which was a real shame given its good spec and awesome 2560 x 1600 screen.
I dont care about updates
You shouldn't be so harsh on huawei, because updates are only important if you play on your device. I only use it as a media device, and not for games, and I think there will be sufficient apps for it in the next 3 years. It is also important, that no update is better than ****ty update. I just changed from my Nexus 7 to Huawei mediapad, because there was an update to lollipop. beforethe update everything was smooth, now the device is lagging so hard, I wish I were able to downgrade it.

@Boris An sorry to correct you. But with all those newly found security breaches on the SoC level "no update" is unacceptable. I bought it because Huawei stated that they will update the M2 at least to Marshmallow. That's just ridiculous and causes an enormous fragmentation. I'm so glad that Treble has to be active and implemented on all devices delivered with an Android 8 since this year. Won't buy any device running Android 7 or lower any longer, just to show those OEM that it's time for a change. And Huawei is just dead for me. Never again. Such a bad service...
Treble can realise a better update policy across different OEMs and bring Android nearer to the best practice update policy of Apple, assuring more devices to be other latest Android version and security-patch level.

6.0 on 801l available, but security patch just from end 2016. Very bad and there is no newer version like B206?
Will post the name, something like B010 was pushed today as a new security patch.Something like 58Mb, with device improvements and security updates.Didnt install it yet.I have the 16gb wifi version of the 10.1 inch M2.Gladly the still update it, now hoping we will ever get a newer emui.Nice tab, very nice but cant share it with my partner for example due to emui 3.1..Happy anyway!
For the M2 801l it's B208 out with march security patch and EMUI 4.0.3. Better than nothing.
Got this update last week-end:
OTA-M2-A01WV100R001C100B008_B010
This improves system stability and security, along with the newest security patches from Google.
i received the "com.huawei.android.hwouc.17784.apk" through the Yalp store, not google playstore...Is it safe to install it and try update?

ROM question for long time One Plus owners?

I'm really tempted to buy the 5t since returning my pixel 2 xl due to screen issues. Coming from a Nexus 6, I really enjoy the availability of some of the most current Android versions through community built ROMs even when the version of Android was never made available for the phone (i.e. Oreo 8.1 on Nexus 6). Can some of the long time One Plus users comment on the availability of the newest Android versions for One Plus phones even if it requires installing community built ROMs? How soon after the release of the Android version do you generally see ROMs based on those versions available for One Plus phones?

Check Ground Zero ROMs, I'm running Validus based on Oreo 8.0 on my OP5 and it's really awesome with pure Android feeling. I read @martinusbe the head Dev will be getting the OP5T.

Android P for Oneplus 5T

Guys i was wondering about android p update for oneplus 5t, since 2 major android updates are usual norm for the companies and from oreo its an option to support project treble if the phone is being updated to oreo and mandatory if the phone ships with oreo, now, according to this post https://www.phonearena.com/news/Goo...s-In-Android-9.0-Make-It-More-Closed_id101816 its being said that android p will mandate the support of project treble that means the phone should support project treble regardless of being updated to android p or shipping with the same.
Now the problem arise when oneplus couldn't support project treble with oreo update for oneplus 5t due to partitioning issues. If this is the scenario then theoretically oneplus 5t won't be able to taste android p officially (since project treble is mandatory) and will it end up being the case of oneplus 2 wherein it couldn't taste android nougat ?
Correct me if i'm wrong since i am on oneplus one and now, looking to upgrade and this time seems fit as oreo's project treble would revolutionize the custom rom's department also i simply couldn't deviate from oneplus phones, hence thinking about waiting for the successor of oneplus 5t as it would definitely ship with oreo hence project treble goodness or oneplus 5t could be updated to android p hence having support for project treble.
Oneplus one still holds good for me till date and no need to upgrade if it wasn't for project treble (and 64 bit architecture also).
So what are your thoughts on this ?
I think you're getting way ahead of yourself. Yes it's true that 1+ is not supporting project treble for the foreseeable future but there are two important things to understand.
First, having an OEM support project Treble does not imply that device will get faster updates. manufacturers will still control the compiling and rollout of updates and they will always add their own tweaks and skins which will take time. All PT will do is taking care of the Hardware Abstraction Layer.
Secondly, even though OnePlus phone updates track record isn't impeccable, they're upgrading the 3/3t and 5/5t to Oreo in a fairly timely matter so it's very unlikely that they will abandon two phones that would be around one year old without the newest update.
In any case, all upcoming phones from OnePlus will have to support Treble so the issue will be short lived.
I think that if they want to ALL phones can be re-partitioned for treble, it would however involve a complete loss of all information on the phone and effort on the part of the companies.
For most users this would be unacceptable as it would involve backing up ALL data , settings and contacts on the phone. It would be time intensive and require effort on the OEM's so these companies just go the easy route and say it can't be done...
Nice way of making a butt-load of cash off the next version of phone released too...
Just one company to get the ball rolling would definitely hurt all others if they did this though...
Oos does not even have oreo... And the open beta they call oreo its nougat..
don't expect it lol
Seriously, we don't even have Oreo yet and you are worried about P?
An official release of Android P for a Oneplus device, is over a year away, minimum... Most of us won't even have this phone by then, having upgraded to a newer one.
oreo itself is a dream.
I was just ensuring that the device i go for will be future proof. I don't feel the need to upgrade a phone until major advancement in the field, i still don't fell the urge to upgrade until it was for project treble which seems promising, alongside backed by 64 bit architecture, display ratio etc etc.
So maybe a safe side would be to wait for the oneplus 5t successor.

I'm in your boat. Despite what OnePlus 5t owners say, treble is a big deal. Manufacturers have already come out and said that it's going to make it much easier. That's why all phones starting with 8.0 will have dual partitions. If you can wait, then you should wait for 8.0+ released devices, or phones that currently implement dual partitions. Essential phones are already prepared for Treble, but they've got some QC issues to solve with their overall hardware, so I'd stay away from them.

yeah yeah yeah man, you perfectly get me, even i'm skeptical about essential phone despite project treble support, even asus zenfone 4's oreo update brings project treble but not in the way treble's to be implemented.
But the thing bugs me that will 1+5/5T be updated to android p or not since android p will surely bring treble support, because treble + 6 years for LTS for kernels = long live device and probably no need to upgrade phones that frequently.
I guess i'll wait for 1+6 then.
thanks for sharing same mindset bro ! :good:
OnePlus 6 will surely be out b4 Android P, shoot probably even the 6T, and the OP6 and beyond will surely support project treble. Patience is the key.
Who cares about project treble and OxygenOS.. we will always have LineageOS. Chill...

project treble means better lineage os support with minimal to no hacks (shimming) to get things working.
Tell me that doesn't sound good.

OP6 is supposed to be released end of March approximately. I would bet dollars to donuts, if they got their act together, it will have Oreo/Treble. Otherwise, they are falling behind the premier makers that will support treble, like the Pixel 2 does now. See what Samsung does with the S9 in the very near future, not sure if it will have treble. If so, it kind of forces OPs hand to have Treble on it's next flagship. Just a thought anyway.
AS far as 5T....well, Oreo is probably good enough for the life of the phone IMO if they get it legit working.

Yeah, that would be awesome. I loved my OP3 and enjoyed the OP5T, but I have to have VoLTE. That is a deal breaker, as I routinely have to tether my work laptop to the phone, so if I am on a conf call with the phone, I lose LTE and it drops down to H+ which is like 3G and slow. Also no HD calling, no WiFi calling.
My Essential doesn't have Wifi Calling either, but it does support VoLTE in AT&T, so I had to return the OP5T and go back to that.

Pixel 5 Support

I’m in the market for a new phone and would like to use LineageOS or possibly GrapheneOS and I like the security of the Pixel 3+ line. I need the fingerprint reader, so Pixel 4 line isn’t really an option, so I’m considering Pixel 3/3a XL or the 5. What I’m wondering is whether any developers are gearing up to support Pixel 5 LineageOS and what opinions are on the likely timeframe for that given the recent flood of support for the Pixel line. Are we talking weeks, months, or a year before it’s realistic to run LineageOS reliably on the Pixel 5? What’s been the timeframe for other new phones in the past?

Pixel 5 ships with android 11. So there will be no official lineageOS as long as 18.x isn't officially released. Maybe next year.

Thanks! Does that mean it would be impossible for LineageOS 17.1 (Android 10 based) to work on a Pixel 5 or that it’s unlikely that anyone would bother wasting their time on a short lived endeavor?

No. All the Pixel features are tied to the proprietary versions of Gapps, not even MicroG will achieve what you're looking for, it's worth have no Pixel features yet no Gapps at the same time, or Pixel features, but have most of the Gapps, there's no other combination of those 2 is possible.
What features will I lose by installing a custom rom?
Pretty much everything that makes a Pixel a Pixel. Even roms that try to preserve features feel kind of half-assed or have security-minded priorities that prevent Google functions altogether.
Stick with stock.

Actually I know of a Feb build of Scorpion Rom that exists for P6P. If you're in the right TG groups you'll trip over many things. I'm not sure if it's official or not. It's been a minute since I saw the link
ProtonAOSP and Kirisakura Kernal are the fastest I've ever felt a phone no joke.
Even with a bunch of magisk modules AND Xposed modules, usually any android phone I've customized to this points starts at least micro jittering.
