Retail Mode Removal - LG G7 ThinQ Questions & Answers

I do contract work for a cellular dealer, and they've given me some demo units to set up as loaner units for client devices going out for service.
I've been able to disable and remove the Retail Mode application on most of the devices, but the G7 Thinq doesn't seem to allow it to be removed - it's effectively baked into the ROM (it can be stopped/disabled, but that doesn't allow for full access - each time the device is wiped it goes back into demo mode, something that's useless for a service loaner).
Since I'm in Canada I'm assuming that there's no bootloader unlock available so I'm stuck until this (hopefully) drops/releases? My knowledge in my time with devices leads me to understand that there's no way to remove an app that's baked in (although some Samsung devices have bloatware removal tools or ADB commands to help with this process, so I figured asking might be a long shot!)
Thanks in advance

After flashing the KDz did the retail mode gone ?

Do the demo units have a active modem?
Maby it's disable to prevent them from being sold to customers.
U probably nead to flash correct kdz if its a real fully functional unit..
The demo mode is activated automatically so stores can wipe a unit fast when costomers try to tamper with demo units.

Help me please

LG G4 US99111a

Hi. I'm wondering if I can get some help with this device. I purchased this device unlocked from my local Rent a Center in New York. Since its unlocked, I am using with my servicer provider Metropcs. Here's where im having some issues. Metropcs offers WiFi Calling on all their devices [ have a LG K7 ] as does T-mobile since they own metro. I noticed that the feature is MIA on my G4. I did some research and found out from LG that the phone itself was originally a US Cellular device. I then called US Celluar. I spoke with their techs and was informed that they don't offer WiFi calling at all with their service, but it doesnt mean the phone doesnt support it. Believe it or not, the tech told me that its more or less a software thing. I went through the stage to upgrade the device to Marshmallow, but apparently its not available. I noticed that all US Cellular LG G4's have Marshmallow. Im wondering if theres a root method that might fix my issues. I looked around and didnt see one for this LG G4 US99111a. I only see them for US99110. Can anyone here at XDA possibly help? Any and all info will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

How did you brick the phone? If the phone has access to the DD commands then you can create the image yourself...obviously your going to brick the phone flashing another phones pre-rooted system img... All LG's on Android 5 can be rooted if you can access the proper commands. If your working with your own image how are you going to brick it???
I say this because I was even able to flash the LS991 TOT and root my phone and its a US991...only problem was it flashed the Modem files and the KDZ does not contain ModemST1 and ModemST2.

Google Pay unlocked lg g7 not working

I have the unlocked version LM-G710ULM and have been unable to get Google Pay to work. I get "couldn't finish set up to pay in stores" It has the stock firmware and is not rooted. From what I understand is that if you have the global or international rom it won't work. Is there any way to get it to work without having to flash a different rom, then root the device. I bought the unlocked version because I am on Cricket and didn't want to buy a US version then have to unlock it.
Does anybody have this unlocked g710ulm and been able to get Google Pay to work? I have trying to get it to work to pay in stores "Couldn't setup to pay in stores. This may be because it is rooted or altered in some other way"
I think I figured out what the problems is the phone is a G710pm with the firmware of G710ulm. I bought it refirbished and Google Play Protect is not certified, so I am assuming thats why I cant use Google Pay in stores.
Did you find a solution? I have the same phone and would like to use Google Pay.
I sometimes access Play Store on my computer. I just logged into my account. I can install the app to the phone without using the Play Store app on the phone. This is not a fix but it is a work around.
There is a lot of app that have apk file available. You got also install the app using apk.

The only one I know of is flashing the Verizon firmware, which has been tested and works completely with the converted G7 models (G710PM sprint to G710ULM unlocked). It works just like the unlocked firmware, just with Verizon bloatware which you can disable.
Developer option on LGUP Dual Mode and select Partition DL, then press select all, ok, yes, and flash
https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-lmg710vm...#tab=firmwares (the vrz 10f one)
I haven't done it myself yet because I'm not ready to lose my data.
Let us know how Google Pay goes!

You might have to factory reset after you flash. I'm not too sure
I can solve it. Write me in PM
Any help that is not a scam is done in public.
I communicated with this person on 4pda a week ago, he helped me with this problem. I don't know exactly what he did but at the moment, I have the European version of the firmware installed on my phone and Google pay fully works. OTA updates still do not work, but I upgraded the firmware to version 10q without problems using lgup with the upgrade option and dll from 10p
And now I am completely satisfied with my phone.
As far as I understand you need an octoplus box to solve a problem, or you need the help of a person who has such a box.
Not bootable after flashing verizon firmware
Tried this on a PM converted to ULM but ended up in an unbootable phone stuck at the verizon animation. Luckily I was able to get back to ULM.
Any clues?
5centr5 user who replied in this topic above really helped after private contact.
i have the same problem now, with my g7 G710EM.
past week it worked flawlessly now it tells me "google pay can no longer be used in shops", even after i reinstalled the app.
(pretty sure at this point that an update to goole pay or playstore broke it)
magisk hide doesnt change anything. (but funnily enough my direct banking app that does nfc paying aswell works fine)
is there a way to get google pay back to work?
Root/magisk/xposed/cross flash brakes googel pay.
If u whant googel Pay just use stock. Googel will always have the upper hand.

After the phone hangs on the Verizon splash screen, you need to hold down the power and volume buttons down without removing the cable. As soon as the screen goes out (darkens), immediately hold only the power button up. Thus, you enter it into download mode and you need to flash it again, but already in refurbish mode. After these manipulations, it will start.
Same Issue - will flash to T-Mobile firmware work?
Anyone else had experience with this? I too have a G710ULM that was originally a G710PM (flashed by a previous owner and unknown to me).
Google Pay just stopped working one day. Google Play store still works.
I've tried the factory reset, tried submitting the Google Service Framework ID, and it's still saying "device is not certified".
I am a relative noob, and I can't figure out which firmware to flash; EM or TM, and which region for the EM if I go that route. I am in the US, but travel to both Europe and Latin America. I have T-Mobile as a provider, and could probably live with their bloatware if necessary.
Is the problem that the phone has been flashed at all, or is it that it was flashed to the ULM and so does not qualify, as a previous poster speculated? Any help would be appreciated.
Do you all have an empty s/n?
Fixed
I updated my firmware from a G710ULM to a G710NULM android 10 and Google play is certified now, you can check this video and follow carefully, search in YouTube the video "LG G7 - Android 10 update Guide" from the user "Kensley Innocent", good luck!

LM-G710V going back to stock possible?

Hi!
I have this G7 with the model LM-G710V with an unlocked bootloader and managed to successfully flash Phh-Treble by following this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g7-thinq/development/rom-phh-aosp-8-1-t3808649 :victory:
but then i would like to convert back to stock but unfortunately there are no available KDZ for G710V in the interweb.
would it be possible to convert G710V to G710EM ,or to a similar effect, by flashing 10b Vendor img and boot img then the kdz found in this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g7-thinq/development/dump-g7-stock-vendor-t3840834 ?
or would this just leave me with a dead bricked phone?
additional notes:
bought this phone as a secondhand from someone in facebook with the bootloader unlocked and with, as the seller stated, "G7+" rom with issues.
no backup was made before
Thank you for anyone willing to answer! :good::fingers-crossed:

Hello @xElouise, according to the LG Open Source Code Distribution website (here), the G710V is equivalent to:
G710VM
G710AWM
G710AWMH
G710VMP
G710VMX
KDZs from any of the models above should work fine, just note that they may come with carrier bloatware. Reflashing the stock firmware is the same as any other G7 version (here, up to the first half step 5).
Does your phone have an IMEI code and working telephony? Because from the info I have gathered on the internet, looks like the G710V is a retail demo unit without either baseband or IMEI.
Hey there! Thanks for the reply!
Unfortunately since after flashing Phh-Treble LGUP does not recognize the phone anymore (Shows up as Unknown)(maybe because i flashed the vendor img(?) idk.)
Anyway, since back then before flashing Phh-Treble i was already trying to flash KDZs Thru LGUP, but unfortunately LGUP throws me error saying it does not support cross flashing.
I have tested the following before:
G710VM - LGUP Error cant cross flash G710V to G710VM
G710AWM - LGUP Error cant cross flash G710V to G710
G710VMX - LGUP Error cant cross flash G710V to G710
This unit IMEI & Baseband says unknown. This also has the white sticker at the back with some of it's details like unit model, FCC Id, etc.

Try hooking it up to LG bridge. It will automatically recognize the phone in download mode and it will update it to the latest stock.

LG Bridge fails to recognize the phone on download mode.
It says " Notice: Can not connect. disconnect the USB cable from your computer and reconnect" done this multiple times, even swapped usb cables with other phone
edit: So i was able to make LGUP recognize the device again but still same problem with cross flashing <see pic for reference>

You can contact the guy that sold the phone to you and see if he has a dump. Otherwise I can pack the system and the vendor but I'm not 100% sure if it will work
Hi, is your unit the demo unit one, without phone function and with retail mode app? Did you encounter any issues with the flashed ROM so you're changing again? I managed to land one of those demo units but there's too much restriction for usage so I was thinking of flashing another ROM but I'm a complete noob with regards to that.
Thanks.

@LameMonster82 , The seller said that he bought it off someone when it has boot loop issues and have his buddy fix it for him & he does not have any backup (guess that makes me a third hand(?) not really affected by it since i got the unit for a dirt cheap price around <$100 and it's quite a smooth unit too).
If you could, in your spare time of course, make the pack that would be really much appreciated! Thank you very much!
@ceezae , This may be a demo unit since i got it without any sim functions and a blank IMEI. I don't know about retail mode, though there was an widget applet before which showcases LG G7's features. I already bought the unit with it's boot loader already unlocked so I have no idea how a G710V got unlocked. When i bought the unit it does not have any audio at all either thru the headphone or speaker that's why i flashed a custom rom.
Anyway , since I flashed Phh-Treble 8.1 the phone's working smoothly aside from the aforementioned bugs in this thread
I am going back to stock since i can not utilize the quad DAC feature in custom rom and I could not get Gcam to work (it either crash or extremely Laggy)
I would also like to mention that:
I can not seem to boot to recovery via (Vol down + Power button) it always say that "Factory Reset is Disabled by Kill Switch" even though OEM Unlock is ticked in the developer settings as well as unsynced Google Account.
And my internal storage is showing that I only have 16 GB of internal (would be easy to fix with TWRP but again no luck with custom recovery)

Hi there!
I am terribly sorry but my device is kinda a bit soft bricked(?) at the moment.
I was trying to flash the Stock Korean PIE KDZ and was successful but it had problems like WIFI can not be turned on and Random Reboots.
I think I also have lost access to Fastboot since the phone only Reboots itself normally.
My dumb self did not make a backup so I am a bit screwed at the moment.
Someone with an intact phone (which hasn't been flashed) will have to pack up their partitions and post it here. The G710V seems to be technically similar to the G710N but can't actually be flashed to a G710N (you can force this through using LGUP but it results in a phone that crashes all the time due to some issue with the wifi driver).

Hey, I tried backing up these via adb shell myself on my G10V but... "permission denied". Great. Probably because the demo units force a Retail Mode device administrator that you can't remove at all. Can't even access the page itself in Settings ("you are not authorized..." blah blah). It's a shame, because I was really looking forward to helping OP.
have you succeeded I have the same problem as you

I have a dump. I did it using the EFM program from the Z3X team.

AT&T LG G8 - Want to flash stock firmware, possible?

AT&T LG G8 - Want to flash stock firmware, possible? Trying to use it on Google FI and it seems hotpot and many other features aren't working. Phione is paid in full and unlocked. Factory firmware currently.
I want to flash my phone
So you're trying to flash stock on top of stock?
The request is to see if you can flash a bare LG unlocked ROM that comes with factory unlocked phones onto a phone that came with a stock AT&T ROM. The Att phone has now been carrier unlocked, is used on a different network, so the Att specific apps that replaced stock apps no longer work.
I was also wondering if I could do this with my Tmobile G8; unlock the phone, then flash the unlocked LG OS instead of the Tmobile version. My goal is debloat, and to be able to have the original Android hotspot app. Not to mention get rid of that terrible pink, loud, annoying carrier startup splash.
Also, I wonder if security updates would come faster when strait from LG instead of the carrier.

Let me know if you find a debloated is for a T-Mobile g8
Has anyone figured out any method that actually works for just flashing firmware to the g8?
Unlike Samsung phones where you can flash other firmwares via ODIN I don't think this phone has that ability. If you got to the ROM/Development section there are threads where people posted firmwares but no instructions on how to flash.

We can actually cross flash, but we need a modified lg dll to fool lgup into letting us flash any firmware.
I have tried just about everything I can think of to get this thing to flash. I saw some people using lgup v1.15 via the command line but that didn't work either.

I have 2 unlocked sprint lg g8. One of them doesn't have the Sprint splash screens. So somebody was able to do something.

My goal is debloat, and to be able to have the original Android hotspot app. Not to mention get rid of that terrible pink, loud, annoying carrier startup splash.
Also, I wonder if security updates would come faster when strait from LG instead of the carrier.

Hello,
I've tried to flash another firmware on an AT&T LM-G820UM10i with LGUP and a firmware found on lg-firmware.
The LGUP restarted the phone in Firmware update mode, then on LGUP, I got an error
Error 0x5319, Not allow to change the device.(ATT_US->OPEN_CA)
So I've unplugged and reboot the phone. Still working.

Lg Blocked crossflashing , its not possible as of this moment.

We can actually cross flash, but we need a modified lg dll to fool lgup into letting us flash any firmware.

I have 2 unlocked sprint lg g8. One of them doesn't have the Sprint splash screens. So somebody was able to do something.

that just means one of the unit was not activated on Sprint (usually once activated Chameleon then kicks in and adds all the sprint stuff or boost depending on the MVNO)
I have all the necessary data and the LG DLL in the LGUP folder to put any ROM released, I have an LG G8 from AT&T, I am not within the United States but I am afraid that by modifying the ROM (KDZ) they will not work for me some things like 4G or some functions inside the phone, to specify live in Latin America, if someone helps me pass the LGUP data through Google Drive

Because the G8 and all newer LG phones have security measures to prevent cross flashing.
Many bloatware apps can be Disabled in App Info Settings. The rest can be removed with ADB shell "pm uninstall". Google it.
It's best to never ever buy carrier devices. There's a reason they're the ones sold with a discount :cyclops:

The Sprint LG g8 is recognized by lgup when it's on leaked beta. It's possible they haven't built in security measures yet, I'm going to try cross flashing

Unlocked sprint lg g8 on new network that doesn't have its own firmware

Ok before I start I just want to say I'm a complete noob at android and how it works (got my first android a month ago) so don't get too angry if I say something stupid :/
So I bought an unlocked sprint g8 off of ebay but switched to another carrier called mint (uses t-mobile network) so I'm not sure how the software updates work. I'm aware I won't be getting updates from sprint, but I know that I have gotten 1 or 2 updates from lg since I got it. I'm a little confused as to if the updates from lg are all I need or if they are just security patches, and if there is a way to install sprint updates anyway.
I know I can solve this by unlocking the bootloader and installing custom roms once they start coming out, and on sprint I can enable oem unlock, but there is no way to access fast boot. If I do adb reboot-bootloader (or whatever the command is) it just does a normal restart. If I'm not wrong I should be able to do the bootloader unlock after lg adds the g8 to their supported devices, but I don't know how I'll be able to do this without accessing the fastboot. Recovery mode seems to be incomplete too (I can't use adb in recovery I think the drivers are not installed yet), so I think part of the sprint firmware is still kind of in a beta. So if the not being able to access fastboot and an incomplete recovery mode is a problem with the sprint firmware, will the lg updates themselves be able to solve this? Or is there anything else I'm completely missing?
Sorry if that was a little confusing but any answers would be great!
You will still get software updates. I have a sprint lg g8 unlocked on cricket and yesturday i just recieved the August 1 security software update.
I don't have an answer to your question, but does your Sprint model get VoLTE on Mint/T Mobile? Thinking about buying one.

There is almost a 0% chance LG will let US variants be unlocked. And with the impl lock we cant even crossflash the G8, so yea you are stuck with the sprint rom.
Your phone will update. Received August Security patch yesterday. Use ADB to remove Sprint bloat.
Any way to get WiFi calling to work on mint mobile using an unlocked Sprint G8?
I just received Android 10 update on LG G8. I'm on Total Wireless. The biggest thing is RCS is working now. It's a great update btw.
