Is the "EU Version" the same as the "Global Version"? - Mi Max 3 - Xiaomi Mi Max 3 Questions & Answers

I'm trying to buy a Mi Max 3 Global version on Ebay but sellers are really confusing me with their listing titles.
One seller is selling the Mi Max 3 but it's "EU Version". As far as i'm aware, there's only two versions out right now correct?
1. Global version with english box and EU charger - (NO ROM)
2. China version with chinese box and china charger - (Fake or official global ROM's installed by the seller)
Is it possible the seller is mistaking the "EU Version" as the "Global Version"? Or is "EU Version" actually another possible version that I'm not aware of?
I messaged the seller on Ebay asking if the "Global version" and "EU version" is the same?; and this is what they replied to me:
"Thank you for contacting us! This model is official EU version, compare to China version with global rom it's Xiaomi's official EU version.
But unfortunately on the box it doesn't state it's EU version but please rest assured it comes with EU charger and AU adapter, and it's in English, and because of environment protection issue, we no longer provide physical manuals, but we can provide English e-manual for you, thank you!"

Xiaomi.eu is/is not '' Official Xiaomi" software I think???
This is a question, as I want to buy 6GB Max 3, but don't want any enthusiasts home cooked ROM, not on day 1 anyway, maybe later.

Xiaomi.eu is a custom ROM prepared by Xiaomi enthusiasts in Europe. They take the Chinese MIUI beta and stable ROMs, completely strip them of Chinese language and bloatware, install Google apps (illegal in China) tweak the ROM for better performance, and add dozens of European language options (the Chinese ROMs only offer Mandarin and English). The developer s are very professional and update their beta ROMs every week.

Therr is only 2 version of Max 3. One is chinese version and the other global version. A lot of seller say "internation version" which is chinese version with global rom/fake rom or custom rom (xiaomi.eu).
Also some seller print a sticker with global version but its fake, its chinese.

Where is my Blue Mi Max 3

Thank you for complete answer. :highfive:
So this is what you use, how about Android monthly security updates, do they come to you?
And no problems with sensitive apps, banks etc?
Now my big itch is-----I want a Blue MI Max 3, Only seen 6GB available up to now with Chinese/Dealer roms.. Don't want that!
If as you state Xiaomi eu is trustworthy ROM would go for that too.
Thanks again.

I don't think it's a simple. Personally I have the 4gb 64gb Global version, since I wanted the locked bootloader. Xiaomi.eu (I'm not sure) should be flashable only with unlocked bootloader, so you could have problem with certain bank app. As far as I know, 6/128 global version doesn't exist, therefore it comes with Chinese ROM or xiaomi.eu but (I assume) with unlocked bootloader. Someone here having the 64/128 can confirm you this.

I have an officially unlocked bootloader and Magisk with the xiaomi.eu ROM. It passes saftey-net and I use Google Pay and my various banking apps without any problem.

I have a problem with Riru Module. It ignores the screen timeout and the screen stays awake. Do you have the same issue?

Q about 6GB 128GB version

Is the 6GB 128GB version exclusive to China?
All the Xiaomi websites that started revealing the Mi MAX 3 on their front page (which should be the international version) list the phone's spec with 4GB 64GB only.
If it's China exclusive will we be able to install the Global ROM when officially released on it as it will be specific to the 4GB 64GB version?
Thanks in advance.

I have a 6/128gb model here in the U.S. - the hardware should actually be identical aside from storage sizes, and I've had no trouble flashing anything. I can't imagine there would be any reason you couldn't flash to your firmware of choice as long as your bootloader is unlocked.
Thank you very much for your reply.
However, that is the case now as there is no Global Firmware officially available, but how if when this Global Firmware was released and intended only for the 4GB 64GB it might cause problems if it was installed on the 6GB 128GB if it was going to address the phone's memory sectors differently than the 4GB 64GB memory sectors.
The main question here is: are there two different firmwares for both versions or it's only one universal firmware that is used for both versions with different memory capacity?
Same SoC, same code name, RAM and storage size doesn't mather so same firmware/rom for both...
Have you seen different roms listed for both versions anywhere?
We can actually take this a step further. Since the redmi note 5/pro has basically the same internals as the mi max 3(less USB type c, larger screen), how hard is it to modify the Note 5 pros global stable rom to accommodate the mi max 3? The only reason for not going this route is to go directly to Android 9(Pie) development. My two cents.

If the two versions of the phone were different enough to require different firmwares, then they would have different code names - signifying what firmware to use for a device is one of the functions of a code name. Since they are both simply "nitrogen," this means they should take identical firmware. I've had a lot of phones and modded them all, and spend quite a bit of time reading forums for devices I don't own but am interested in, and if the two versions take different firmwares despite having the same code name then this will be the very first time I've heard of it happening. I am 99.9% sure that both phones will take the same firmware.
Yes, 6gb/128gb is a China exclusive and won't be released globally. same goes for blue variant. Any 6/128 "global" edition is likely to be a fake rom with forced unlocked bootloader. So u guys should beware.

So, the important question now, can we re-lock the bootloader on the 6GB/128GB China version after installing the official global firmware on it? because some have mentioned that the phone returns itself to unlocked state again after doing this.

Could you please tell us where we can find official source or confirmation for this claim?
Thank you.
I have waited so long for the 128GB Global Version and am starting to warder if it will truly come.
Please would you advise me to buy the Global ROM or still wait for the Global version as am not sure it will Come?
Coming from a 6gb/128gb owner: just buy the damn thing if you want it.
I personally don't regret it, saved myself the wait for the bootloader unlock, and would have installed Xiaomi.eu anyway, even if I had went for the "global" version.
Last but not least: there are no modem differences between the global and chinese model, so why wait if you end up getting the same band support anyway?

Agreed 100 % from a 6gb/128gb owner on 8.8.9 xiaomi.eu.
6/128 Gb Gold version here as well, on the so called unofficial unlocked 9.6.4.0 dodgy global rom. Been using it , giving it a hammering over the last couple of weeks.Fast and stable...no bugs to report. Not bothered in trying to update it.Everything seems to be doing what i want of it.
There will not be a Global Version of the 6GB/128GB variant as the phone is already available on the Xiaomi Global website and on the spec only listed is the 4GB/64GB variant.
It's all up to you to decide on which version you want, keeping in mind a couple of things:
First, no need to wait for a Global Version of the 6GB/128GB variant as it's not coming ever.
Second, there is no difference between both variants except for the memory difference (obviously) and how would you like your bootloader be locked or unlocked (with the Chinese version to stay on locked bootloader you'll have to remain on the Chinese Firmware pathway but if you want to go the EUMIUI or IMUI Global you have to unlock the bootloader, however, with the Global Version you can have the bootloader locked while you are on the official Global ROM with OTA updates working normally)

Hi
Good day sir
Please I need to understand you properly on this, am a novice here and am sorry for the way I will put my questions as below.
If I buy the Chinese version from aliexpress 6gb/128gb,would I get regular MIUI update from xiaomi and also newer android update without any tweak on the ROM?
The thing there is am not familiar with locked and unlocked bootloader as am scared of bricking the device at any attempt.
I just want to buy and enjoy my device without any tweak on rom
Also, I do read that the Chinese version, has mix up of language when tunned to English (has English and Chinese writing). How true is it?
Please I need answers before I make an order.
Thanks

If you are not going to modify your phones' firmware and stay on the original firmware then you'll be good to go and you will get regular OTA updates from the official Xiaomi servers but keep in mind that this would be the Chinese firmware pathway all the time for you.
The Chinese firmware has English language but as you said there are some here and there mix up but it will not interfere with your daily use of the device but it's there (you'll find some naming in the menu in Chinese)
The other thing, is that the Chinese version doesn't have Google Play or any other Google services but you can install these easily from an app that is available on a Chinese app store pre-installed on the Chinese version.
So, if you are ok with all of the above you can get the 6GB/128GB version but if you are not feeling much comfortable of Chinese lettering here and there and some Chinese apps on your device then go with the 4GB/64GB version.
By the way, there will not be much difference of performance between the 2 devices (if any at all) if you are wondering about that and for the storage the device has a Micro SD slot and you can have all the storage that you want with that.
Hi,
I will try to make things more clear : ....
I have ordered and received from a known Chinese internet site
(not my first order with them)
"[Official Global ROM]Xiaomi Mi Max 3 6.9 Inch 4G LTE Smartphone Snapdragon 636 6GB 128GB 12.0MP+5.0MP Dual Rear Cameras Android 8.1 5500mAh Type-C OTG Touch ID - Black:"
Before shipping i have inquired :
" Is the "official Global Rom" genuine by Xiaomi or flashed by ********* ??? is the box original sealed or open ???"
The answer was :
"Dear friend,
Thanks for your inquiry
Sorry for the late reply
this item is Official Global ROM by xiaomi
it is packed by original sealed box
please do not worry
Hope you enjoy your shipping!
Best regards
The Phone was received relatively fast @ 9th. October very nice Mi Max 3 very responsive with "MIUI Global 9.x.x.x....."
Few days later got an OTA "UPDATE Alert" to MIUI Global 10.0.1.0 Stable (OEDMIFH)
The update performed in few minutes all looks good up to i found on the XDA site
The link to "Mi Product Authentication" :
https://www.mi.com/en/verify/#/en/tab/imei
I have clicked the IMEI and found this :
小米Max3 全网通版 6GB内存 黑色 128GB
Thank you for choosing Xiaomi!
However, the device you purchased is not an official global version and user experience may be affected. Next time, please purchase the official global version of the device through officially authorized channels.
(could not upload a pic.)
Started searching 6/128 Global found out there no such version on the market ....
Opened a dispute on Pay Pal
Waiting for Answers ......
You should never listen to a vendor regarding this information without thorough research. That's why Xiaomi implemented the new 720 hour official bootloader unlock.

The Rom , like mine is official. The method they used was unofficial. As there is no 128gb International version phone in existence. You will always get a Chinese version 128gb phone, as seen when you check the IMEI software link. With the "Official rom" loaded by the person you purchased it from.
To do that, they had to unwrap the Chinese version phone, Install the "Official rom" and then send it to you. What they did wrong was state to you that the phone was in a sealed box.If you are concerned with having a Chinese version of the phone, i would suggest you try to return it and downgrade to the Official 64gb International version phone in a sealed box with the same software on board.
I Personally more than happy with my 128GB Chinese phone with the International Rom loaded.
I wouldn't have opened that dispute TBH.
The Chinese 6gb / 128gb model is still the best one on the market, and let's face it: you would have installed the Xiaomi.eu ROM on the "official" global version anyway, just to get theme support and rid of the ads.

there isnt any working modem on 9.6.6.0.OEDMIFD

I tried changing the vendor partition which broke even more stuff.
Maybe @nijel8 havent checked under ground (parking lots), in door buildings, and more which make the signal so weak.
also there is no LTE/LTE+ on the 9.6.6.0.OEDMIFD
We need someone with the un-released 9.6.7.0.OEDMIFD to confirm this

Don't be so sure as we don't know 9.6.6.0 is broken. You've already said 9.6.4.0 is fake and that wasn't true.
You installation of 9.6.6.0 doesn't proof anything.
We know for sure many times problems are fixed by fastboot rom nad we don't have global fastboot rom released yet to test.
Yes, I haven't tested mine enough to know for sure it runs fine under different conditions so I will not say it has no problems, we've had enough rumors spread around... So let's just leave it to people who have more to say...
I'm on 9.6.6.0 for a week now as a daily driver, no problem at all. So, afaik, 9.6.6.0 is not broken.

Global SKU of the phone is not available yet.
I'd suggest waiting if you want modems to work properly - possibly also extra bands and NFC.

I'm not sure if you are aware what are you actually using. The phone does not have NFC. https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_mi_max_3-8963.php That is one of its weak point.
You cannot enable something by software if the hardware is missing.

I'm aware the version currently doesn't, and of course it can't be enabled without the hardware.
However, I was told by a retailer (who are selling 'global' units) that the true global version was not available yet, would be a distinct hardware version, and that it may carry both extra bands and NFC.
"I'm not sure if you aware" that other global versions of Chinese phones have added both an NFC reader and additional bands? It is not unlikely in this case.
I had asked them about the likelihood of a Max 3 Pro coming soon (and with NFC) as Malyasian / Indian e-tailers had re-added pre-orders for the Pro, with October expected date. They said they didn't know, but gave the above information about the global Max 3.

Well I did read about the device quite a bit but I haven't seen anywhere the global version would have NFC. I doubt Xiaomi would change the hardware in the global version. M3Pro on the other hand as you say may come with that but its up in the air yet...
It's rare that Chinese brands release any information ahead of availability of global SKUs, even if the hardware differs (which it not infrequently does).
We'll see.
The Max 3 is apparently among those devices that'll be officially available in European markets .. that makes it a lot more likely that bands and NFC will be added, as there have been in other phones.
I didn't think that there was any difference between the original Chinese variant and the International/Global variant which they began selling in Hong Kong, Singapore and the Philippines last week, but I was wrong. My Chinese Mi Max 3 arrived from tradingshenzhen with an unlocked bootloader and xiaomi.eu flashed as I had requested, and with xiaomi.eu 8.8.9 it works great. But a friend recently came home with a Max 3 purchased in the Philippines which is running v9.6.7.0.OEDMIFD (Global). When he goes to the Mi verification web site and enters his IMEI it says "you have a valid International Version". When I go to the site and enter my IMEI it says "you do not have a valid International Version and may encounter difficulties - please purchase from official distribution channels in the future".

Ok, I am getting irritated by you already...
Don't give your opinion on something you don't completely understand. As I said your installation procedure is so lame I don't even know how to say it without offending you. Believe me that is not my intention...
First you don't have global version and the OP question is specifically for that one.
Second you don't have fastboot global rom to begin with. There are so much more to the rom than what is it in the recovery zip. Otherwise Xiaomi won't be releasing both.
Third how do you know if Xiaomi didn't place some restrictions preventing Chinese devices running Global rom properly hence your problems...
So until you flash fastboot Global rom or better yet for this OP get global version try to not spread false information.
Peace...

If is possible to unlock the bootloader, I already ask permission to unlock others Xiaomi terminals... Or they will deny to I can't change the Chinese ROM?
I'm afraid to buy these terminal because I can't find it on Ali... Why? Very Strange
Hope could heard yours is...

Just buy it from TradingShenzhen and choose xiaomi.eu version. Problem solved.
Having the phone (6gb ram /128 storage) from honorbuy for 2 months i can surely say that unlocking the bootloader (officially) was an easy stuff. Install the xiaomi eu rom was a much more easier. Just flashed via twrp. Nothing to be afraid my friend.
I had the phone 6/128gb china version since launch and I've been flashing, china stable, china developer,
Global stable, Global developer. Just make sure you unlock bootloader the official way thru miui website. I know 720 Hours sucks but once its done, your phone will always ask for your xiaomi account instead of some retailer's account.(which is why a lot of people bootloop due to choosing flash and lock instead of just clean all).
Like there is another way to unlock the bootloader...

I don't know these website from where they send? Any problems with European customs? It's a pity, they don't change firmware any more "This product is no longer in stock with those attributes but is available with others."

He was being sarcastic...there's only one way to unlock their bootloader - officially from xiaomi.

Many of us have ordered from them. They ship from Hong Kong and Germany (most likely drop ship from their German warehouse to Eu). The Chinese rom is fine too.
You can just unlock the bootloader yourself officially as mentioned above, then flash xiaomi.eu.

The ARB in your Miui and phone already installed ARB = 4 , and it doesn't show itself in the GetVar.
You can retrieve arb level in hex editor from elf file.
Idk the right answer on your second question.
Many people wrote it is possible to switch,
in another side the guy with the rank of "the dev team" from the Miui en forum wrote: its impossible to do yourself, any move from china to global will lead to brick.
I find many posts abt switching and when I asked how they pass arb ppl ignore me as I apply an magic to be invisible.
in my opinion the bad result is also result but probably no one from that ppl want share it ))).
as conclusion either sides have heavy weight no way to detect who is ultimately right.
I decide to check it by my self in 5 days (Xiaomi delay unlock of boot loader).
Of course you can if you have your bootloader officially unlocked and installed the twrp. I've already done it

Do you think I can do what I do without flashing back and forth any kind of MIUIs - oreo/pie, stock/custom, china/global etc hundreds of times during testing fixes?
Never had a single boot problem. I don't flash firmware though!!! Don't need that for testing.
Right now the only problem that exists is if downgrading ROM versions/security patch level chances are you lose your data due to encryption. This is a security feature, not a bug... Data is still decrypted and accessible in TWRP so no biggy.
So your answer is versions don't matter if you backup your data to safe location first... And watch for ARB level! if you flash firmware!!!

Sorry for being a noob, but I'm new to ARB and not exactly a Linux expert. Which elf file are you referring to? I also have the 128 GB 6 GB RAM variant of this device and have installed .eu ROM overtop of Chinese ROM. I also have installed a GSI, however no matter the ROM, every time I run a getvar I cannot read the ARB. Could you can share this method or provide a link to source material where I can learn about where to locate and read this ELF file to determine ARB?

You should have the image of your current ROM.
the easiest way to check the arb is unpack the image and find the script what perform update. in the script you will find
something like this
set CURRENT_ANTI_VER=4
http://ru.miui.com/thread-12941-1-1.html
next is also unpack image and find the file xbl.elf
open it in any hex editor (online or program) and check its value
you can read more here

or just believe you already have it ).

Today we have two variants of NEX 3 :
the Chinese (V1924)
the Malaysian (V1923)
The chinese is absolutely perfect by using with his rom but need you install GApps and it's easy to do. For the moment the only thing that it doesn't work here is Google Pay for payment. I have seend that device is not certified for Payment on Safetynet, hope VIVO will fix !!!
The malaysian variant has GApps ootb. It's only shipped with 8GB ram variant, not 12GB ( only chinese one )

Do you still need a Chinese telephone number to register/create a Vivo account? The original Vivo Nex S had this "issue" and this was needed to change the Launcher and install sideloaded apps (like the play store). If the Vivo Nex 3 Chinese variant does not need a telephone number anymore to create a Vivo account, I might go for it then. Please let us know. Thank you =)
Hello,
I have the V1923 version seems to be the Malaysian version, and for the Vivo account, it can be created without chinese phone number, just an email so easy to do now (https://passport.vivo.com/in/#/register) !!!
I confirm you also I needed to do a Vivo account to be able to use Nova !!!
Best regards
what apps don't work on the phone, and does google pay really not work still on the phone, even if you install google apps on the phone?

Thanks for the reply, but if the Malaysian model is running the Global Rom, then yes, an email is enough to create a Vivo account, I found that out when I used the Vivo Nex 2 with GLobal Rom, but it would be awesome if now the Chinese model is the same, can someone with the Chinese model confirm that a Chinese telephone number is or is not needed to create a Chinese Vivo account?
Thank you XDA community =)
Hello I have the V1913 variant the source that I bought it from is telling me this is the 5G variant I have not been able to confirm that model number online but I'm wondering if some of the variant don't have the 5G logo on the back

Updating phone's firmware

Hello,
I've just come up with a question regarding the update of the phone's firmware.
As far as I know, there's only one version of this phone (in the sense that there aren't Global/China/India versions) but depending on where you buy it comes with one or another version of MIUI.
Seeing that on XiaomiFirmwareUpgrade we can choose between 3 different versions of firmwares (global, EEA, India and China) my question is: does it even matter what firmware version do we install on our phone?
Or even clearer: can we safely use the weekly Chinese firmware even if we use our phone in any other country or part of the world (let's say America or Europe) or will we experience performance/connectivity issues?
Thank you very much.
Yes it does matter
China version will have a load of bloat apps designed for the Chinese Market that will be totally useless outside of China. Probably will have a load of other stuff included which will not function correctly outside of China.
EEA version is specifically for Europe which complies with GDPR laws so if you're not bothered about that you could use the global version instead.
I'd stick with what ever comes on your device in terms of stock rom.
If you're going to unlock the bootloader you might as well flash a custom rom
There are two different device boards of "this phone", both with slightly different hardware (camera module e.g.) and accompanying different Firmware (also note that the concept Firmware and ROM is not the same, i.e. the official ROM's contain specific Firmware to 'control specific hardware' next to the Android version, apps, scripts, ...). There are also three different device models and three different device names. All these serve five different regions, ...
1. Xiaomi
Device Board: GAUGUIN
Device Model: M2007J17G
Device Name: Mi 10T Lite
Regional Products: Global, EEA and Taiwan
-> all have different ROM content (obviously for the different regions) and will only work best on this specific device board (only these are interchangeable). This is also Xiaomi's official Android Enterprise Recommended Smartphone
2. Xiaomi
Device Board: GAUGUINPRO
Device Model: M2007J17C
Device Name: Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G (China Region)
3. Xiaomi
Device Board: GAUGUINPRO
Device Model: M2007J17I
Device Name: Mi 10i (India Region)
-> all have different ROM content (obviously for the different regions) and will only work best on this specific device board (only 2. and 3. are interchangeable).

Thanks to both of you for taking the time to answer this thread.
I've just checked, and my device is the M2007J17G.
My question was regarding not the ROM (as I've already flashed a custom rom) but the firmware.
On the XiaomiFirmwareUpdater website (https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/firmware/gauguin/) there are different types of firmware for the "gauguin" model: China, India, Global and Europe.
Right now I am using the last weekly Chinese firmware (21.7.21) on my MI 10T Lite, but I wanted to know if installing the European "version", for example, would make any difference, as from what I've read, the firmware contains the modem and other connectivity related things.
Hope my questions is clearer now.
Thanks!
We both answered your question quite well, although in a different way. Please also read:
PSA: Flashing MIUI Global on these Xiaomi devices may brick your device
If you flash MIUI Global ROM on certain Xiaomi devices with a locked bootloader, your device will not boot. Here are the Xiaomi devices that could brick.
www.xda-developers.com
Don’t flash official GAUGUINPRO ROM/FirmWare/Vendor on a GAUGUIN device or vise versa, as it does make a difference (you said it yourself "the firmware contains the modem and other connectivity related things"). It could lead to all kind of (future) problems and even ‘brick’ your device (if you try to relock it with MiFlash). Don't push your 'luck' any further !
You’re free to flash any official Global, EEA or Taiwan ROM/Firmware/Vendor to your Mi 10t Lite (not China nor India Firmware/ROM/Vendor). Personally I would stick to what came with your device and 'strip it' to the bone ;-)
What region do you live in? -> don't answer this, just flash the right firmware ;-)
PS: XiaomiFirmwareUpdater is not very clear about the obvious differences between GAUGUINPRO and GAUGUIN at all.

In case of this (unofficial) xiaomi.eu custom ROM weekly build 21.7.21, it all depends on what official (stock) ROM was installed before you decided to unlock your device and flash this custom ROM. If i.e. it was the official Mi 10T Lite EEA ROM, it does not matter as the (unofficial) xiaomi.eu custom ROM's uses that Firmware anyway (it does not change it, it rely on it). If i.e. it was the official Mi 10T Lite Global ROM, it does matter as EEA is a different Firmware, ... ;-)
Feel free to flash any official Global, EEA or Taiwan Firmware/Vendor to your Mi 10t Lite, according to your region (do not flash China nor India Firmware/ROM/Vendor).
PS: to me, these (unofficial) xiaomi.eu custom ROM’s are becoming somewhat “redundant” (unless you want to test out MIUI's latest evolution and apps, because they are 'build' on China's weekly ROM's), as Xiaomi is making their own official EEA (EU) ROM’s for some time now (they did not do that in the past, that’s why xiaomi.eu custom ROM’s where made in the first place).

Edit: typo's, ...
Thanks for your answer.
Got it pretty clear now.
The phone originally came with the European rom, so following your advice, I'll stick to European/Global/Taiwanese firmwares.
But when you use Xiaomi adb debloater, without root., Just rurn on usb debugging mode, the phone, and the rom is Awesome. Even MIUI is smooter and fastee. Lighter.
Battery is last longer.
I use redmi note 9oro 5g, and dont olan to change chine rom. I delete over 50 apps, but now phone working perfectly..
Even after 12.5 .3 , google services works.
