Have you guys seen this thread? @runningnak3d is working on root for all G6s - Sprint LG G6 Guides, News, & Discussion

Reading the thread it seems two people have the LS993, my G6 is my daily so I can't help/risk it
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g6/how-to/root-models-dont-t3848460

He says it will only work on devices with ARB 0. Unless I'm mistaken, all Sprint LG G6 devices have at least ARB 1.

It looks like I was mistaken. He says all Sprint LG G6 phones are ARB 0 and therefore rootable. He's working on the instructions now.

Just an update. The new thread is: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g6/how-to/root-howto-as993-wip-t3908213
However, development has stalled out.
The last post in that thread from the developer was 56 days ago.

Where is the developer support?

I am sure this question has been asked before, but why aren't we getting any Roms yet? And more importantly, will we ever get a AOSP Marshmallow rom?
As I've read from a lot of other posts, it's because there is no way to unlock the bootloader
It depends which variant you have. If you happen to own the H811 or H815 you can unlock the bootloader of yours. Anything else, and either you're doomed or you can only wait for LG to add your device to the unlockables list.
There was a debate on one of the forums here, can't remember, about which version is more common. The argument was that although there are more non-unlockable variants, there count is insignificant compared to the combined amount of sold H811s and H815s, which are both unlockable. Also, the G4 may be around for quite some time now, but the official bootloader unlock is only possible since June and thus development on it is still in its earliest stages. Be patient =)
In theory, it should take some time until you see more development on these devices.
You can unlock G4 bootloader officially

That is only for H815 EU models.

My bad. Only the H815 EU Model can officially be unlocked.

Canadian H812 Root

Hello Everyone,
Please forgive me if this topic is elsewhere, but I am hoping to get some assistance from the community. I have been searching for a method of obtaining root on my Canadian Bell LG G4 H812 running Marshmallow.
I saw a few methods before Marshmallow rolled out to Canadian Carriers involving extracting system image, injecting root, and replacing the system image on my device. I figured, when MM rolled out, there would be a better method found of doing this, but to my dismay, it now appears to be impossible on MM.
Can anyone confirm if root can be obtained on this device?
I am willing to downgrade to Lollipop to make this happen
Why is there little to no development for this model?
Is the model interchangeable with another LG G4 that root /unlocked bootloader has been found on?
Can anyone possibly offer a noob-friendly guide on doing this?
Please note, I am completely willing to downgrade to lollipop in order to make this happen as I rely on some apps that require root, and some that rooting makes the app more functionsl (Trimmer, greenify, xposed, Titanium Backup to name a few)
I have successfully rooted and unlocked many phones in the past (Motorola Milestone, HTC Desire Z, HTC Amaze, HTC Raider LTE /Vivid, Galaxy S2/3/4, Galaxy Note 2/3, LG G3) but for the first time in my rooting life, I not only feel completely unsure about the process, but I feel pretty uneasy. A lot of the guides that I found for injecting root into the system partition and re-flashing seemed incomplete or broken, and were not published on XDA, so I stayed clear of them.
Thanks everyone in advance.

The exploit used has been fixed on mm
I will receive my G4 from Rogers in 2-3 days, what do you think will be on it? Lollipop or MM ?
Thank you
Daniel
could someone point to a forum, or provide some details as to why this is not possible?
will this be how all phones are made going forward?
I can't wrap my head around not being able to do this, and would just love some reading as to why it is not possible, and what to look out for when buying a new device that is not a Nexus.

The exploit used on Lolipop was by way of inserting the Su root binary and whatever other mods are needed into a system image and then writing it to the phones memory. This trick or exploit used to boot the phone into a state where you could write a new system image was fixed on Marshmallow. There is another trick that I see on the USA variant subforums for the G4 where you pull the USB cable out during an update exactly when it hits a certain percent to get the phone in the exact same state but it doesnt hepl with root anyway.
Marshmallow had changes to it which prevents rooting by simply changing the system partition (not sure exact details) which is why we have the systemless root now. Systemless root requires modifications that will not work with bootloader locked phones. No bootloader unlock has been made available for the G4 so not possible to root MM.
Check out the Canadian G4 thread in the general subforum.
My koodo h812 bought a few weeks ago came with marshmallow out of the box. Build date was July, sn607
If you want to root your new G4 you'll have to downgrade to LP. Check the Canadian H812 thread in the General forum for more details and use LG UP program to flash the KDZ. Mine came with MM from Rogers and it was pretty simple to downgrade.
I don't know how long I can resist the urge to root. My only real issue with it stock is the crappy battery life. There is no excuse for my old moto x with a way smaller, 2 year old battery lasting double the screen on time. I'll probably take the risk on the warranty because I'll always have a backup phone.

I was in this situation with my Canadian G4 (H812).. fortunately I traded it for the european H815 .... I made the right choice I feel. It's got unlocked bootloader, unlocked carrier, no service provider bloatware, and ALL the original LG apps running perfectly (including the FM radio and SmartWorld)
It's beautiful. Anyway there is a guy called SteadFasterX he is working on a custom bootloader called EFIdroid for LG G4 devices with the default bootloader locked. So we are bypassing LG's bootloader and giving control to the EFIdroid bootloader. He is also working on a project called TWRP-in-FISH which lets you boot anything using a LOCKED bootloader. So go check it out and pray, or trade it in for the european version.
I was one of steadfasterX's early testers for FIsH. Unfortunately I think most users are unable or unwilling to shell out more money to buy the exact same phone they already have with different software that is more open. I will just use my LG G4 as long as it suits me and then likely never buy another LG phone unless they change their policy on unlocking.
I'm happy that you resolved your issue but telling others to buy a new phone won't earn you any friends along the way. Plus with the G4 bootloop issues you'd be crazy to buy a used G4 unless it's a really good price.
You really should do your homework a little more thoroughly ...

You really should do your homework a little more thoroughly (LOL) ... TWRP-in-FisH does not allow you to boot just anything. It allows you to boot a custom TWRP version ONLY, a version that will work with locked bootloaders.
EFIdroid in FisH (an ALPHA stage project), if successful, may ultimately allow one to boot custom roms. It does not modify the stock bootloader partition, i.e. it does not unlock it, it hijacks the boot process.
FisH is the project that allows you to boot potentially anything.
You're not helping anyone providing inaccurate, misleading information. Your only contribution to date seems to be telling everyone to sell their H812's and buy H815's - you've made your point (over and over, ad nauseam - hint, look it up) ...

Here you go ... [Canadian Guide] - Complete Source for the LG G4 H812. Linux VM/Root/Tools&Files @ https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/canadian-guide-complete-source-lg-g4-t3212449
Do not use the root apps ... they won't work. Use the H81210 stock and rooted versions linked in the first post at the beginning of the Canadian guide site, they should work or you can search for both stock and rooted kdz's for your specific carrier. Use LGUP-NEW (https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/lgup-install-kdz-mm-lp-t3249803) to downgrade and upgrade the firmware on your LG G4.
Follow the Root ANY LG G4 Variant 100% Success Directives | Root Injection | Less Bricks (https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/...-root-t3180586) ONLY for installing the rooted image (assuming you have obtained a pre-rooted image, otherwise, follow all to root the stock LP kdz you have obtained) -- use the command for the H812 model in the 2nd post here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/...ot-lg-t3164765 found in the following box: Command to Flash System.img (All Variants) for installing the rooted image.
That should cover it.

The information posted on the link you've referred to is factually incorrect. The method, using Chainfire's Supersu Beta version SuperSU v2.79 SR3 requires a modification of the boot partition. It is simply not possible with the locked bootloader of the H812, i.e., you can't believe everything you read. The author does somewhat qualify with the statement: If the Root is Not Working in Your Variant Should Be Unlocked Before Root.
You've owned your LG H815 for how long ... ? LOL ... less than a week? Tick, tick, tick ... ILAPO!

[TMO H932 ONLY] Progress Towards Root/TWRP/ROMs (not achieved yet)

I'm making this thread to update the progress towards root and such for the T-MOBILE LG v30
So far what I have gathered is that like the LG G6 the fastboot commands have been removed
There is in fact one fastboot commands still active and that's fastboot flash all,my proposal is that we modify a otas boot.img and root the boot.img then flash that ota package.
As per request here is the stock kdz:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=889964283620768916
I don't know anything about development just throwing a idea out there
Since people can't read correctly this for the T-MOBILE Variant..you know the only one that's locked down?
EDIT: the OP has now edited the thread topic at my suggestion to clarify he's only interested in the the T-Mobile LG V30. Initially it was for ALL LG V30 and his initial post thus had misinformation, which he's now corrected.

I predict Root/TWRP/ROMs will be achieved when the US998 and H930 are placed on the LG Developer Bootloader unlock list. And neither of those LG V30 phones have ADB flash commands removed, so you are not correct there.

Oh, you are probably ONLY talking about the carrier-branded models. Only the carrier-branded models of the LG G6 and LG V30 have the ADB flash commands removed. The official carrier unlocked models are not crippled in any way.
The LG V30 official carrier unlocked models (US998* and H930) released by LG directly (and also sold by some 3rd party retailers) have full ADB commands and will be the "developer" models with full root, TWRP, custom ROMs.
These two models will be released end of October and sometime soon after that (hopefully very soon), will be placed on the LG Developer Bootloader Unlock list. Within a WEEK after that you'll have root, ROMs, TWRP, kernels for the LG V30. That's what happened with the LG G6, which has TONS of dev work. June 29, placed on the LG Developer Bootloader Unlock List, by first week of July -- BOOM! :good:
So, you might want to edit your thread title to to be CARRIER BRANDED LG V30? Your thread title says "not achieved yet". Because when the LG V30 official carrier unlocked models (US998, H930) get root, ROMs it WILL be achieved.
You are probably talking about the carrier branded models -- but it's like saying all cars have gear boxes in the wrong location for shifting gears on the open road. Well, not all cars have "stick shifts" at all. Some have automatic transmissions. You need to clarify you are only talking about the gear boxes of cars which have manual transmissions -- where you would be shifting gears while driving.
This has all been discussed in the LG V30 "Unlock bootloader and Root" thread.
Everything you need to know about this topic was posted back in early September in posts #6, #7, #9. Because even then -- a MONTH BEFORE CARRIER RELEASE -- we knew what LG was doing with their 2017 flagships. I posted information so people could plan accordingly. If you wanted root for sure on LG V30, you knew what to buy.
In that thread, I suggested at least twice that someone open a CARRIER BRANDED ROOT thread, if they ONLY want to talk about that. But no one has yet -- unless you change (edit) the title to this thread? Over in the T-mobile LG G6 thread -- which also has the so-far useless bootloader unlock -- there was 23-page root bounty thread, but after six months has been abandoned as a lost cause.
Again, the carrier unlocked LG G6 models have two pages of root, ROMs, kernels, recovery. It's only the carrier-branded 2017 LG models which are crippled.
______
* The official carrier unlocked US998 will be sold by LG, Best Buy, Amazon, B&H Photo and possibly other retailers. Not to be confused with the U.S. Cellular model US998 which is the "unofficial" carrier unlocked model. The U.S. Cellular US998 will not qualify for bootloader unlock as it's sold by a carrier.

This is not correct at 100%.
Internal variant have the possibility to unlock the locked commands by flashings the unlock bin file provided by LG, but normally they have locked adb/fastboot commands too.
This is not meant to discuss, but just to add some more precise informations, since I've unlocked both G5 and G6, and I'll probably get a V30 =)

Yes it is correct. The dev-friendly official carrier unlocked models have bootloader unlock on request by going to the LG Developer Bootloader Unlock page. They have full ADB flash commands after unlocking the bootloader.
You only quoted one sentence of what I wrote. I clearly mentioned the LG Developer Bootloader Unlock site several times and even included links to it.
My point is he's lumping ALL the LG V30 into one box, and some of the models will be dev friendly with capability of full ADB flash commands. Those will have root, ROMs, TWRP within a week of being placed on the LG Developer Bootloader Unlock list. It's only the CARRIER BRANDED models which are crippled.
The op should edit the title to specify carrier-branded LG V30, if that's what he really intends to discuss.

There's no negativity. Just stating the discussion should be limited to a subset of the LG V30 models -- the ADB crippled carrier branded models. And in reality, it seems you are REALLY only discussing ONE specific model of that subset -- the T-Mobile LG V30?
Because all the other carrier-branded models would additionally need an exploit to crack the bootloader, once you solve the root/TWRP problems on the T-Mobile model.
Initially you said "fastboot commands have been removed" from the LG V30 -- and that's ONLY verified true of the T-mobile model. Yes, we assume it's true of the other carrier branded models, but you would have to crack the bootloaders of those models to verify. However, that statement is NOT true of the official carrier unlocked models (North America US998, European H930), as they will be placed on the LG Developer Bootloader Unlock list and will quickly have root, TWRP, ROMs, kernels, etc -- just like their LG G6 counterparts.
You've now edited the initial post to clarify, which is good and will no longer confuse people. You probably were thinking about the T-mobile LG V30 when you created this thread, but this forum is for ALL LG V30 models, not just T-mobile. If you want to discuss only T-mobile LG V30, you need to clearly state that. Now you have.
I wish you all the luck and success.

Isn't this similar to how the G5 was rooted
Man rooting a tmobile v30 is going to be tough but i was looking at the build.prop just to look at things. The prop denies root obviously enough but now to figure out ways to get some partitions to mount as rw. which will take the longest time to figure out. Plus there is no way to recover the phone in case of a brick at this time. Sheesh should have listened to chazzmat.
Ps I didnt know it had a bootloader unlock count until I "unlocked my bootloader". You can relock it but it shows the number of times you have unlocked it. There goes my warranty

Hi op. This is indeed promising if true. How did you determine the command is still present? I've tried the flash commands and I received errors back. Though I'm pretty sure I never tried flash all
Edit.. oh you're talking about the flash-all script inside the ota package? Do we have an ota zip floating around yet? I'll gladly get into this if so. I have a device sitting at home
cant wait to get a stock version of android, thank you guys.
We need a ota file to modify first
Wasn't there a root method where they injected su in to a firmware for the G4?
I've successfully built the kernel from source, I don't have the ramdisk though. Maybe simply building twrp is a better option. This is futile without any update.zip or anything though

Hello. Just would like to get the ball rolling on this, as no one has yet to make a thread for this device. I realize chances look slim right now of any possibility, but we might as well get to brainstorming.
hope in some Root user method ....

That isn't the point of the other thread the other thread is for tmobile v30 which already has a bootloader unlock just no fastboot flash commands
The first post states its for the T-Mobile model, but all the information up until now is the same as we currently have no progress. It just so happens there are more T-Mobile users of the V30 than there are of the Verizon model. Once unlock, fastboot, etc can be addressed for one unlockable model any progress will branch off onto other US unlockable models.

Not really they face different challenges and why hold back the tmo thread for issues pertaining to unlocking a bootloader when they don't need that part?

Agreed. There's also a general bootloader unlock/root thread that even supersedes the T-Mobile thread.
LG V30 - Unlock bootloader and Root
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/help/unlock-bootloader-root-t3665927
It was started back in September, and the T-Mobile thread was a fork of that one. Because the T-Mobile people already had bootloader unlock and didn't want to discuss bootloader unlock. So they started their own thread, and that thread op says he ONLY wants to discuss the T-Mobile variant in that thread.

Well, Verizon LG V30 variant doesn't have bootloader unlock. It's quite different from the T-mobile situation. So, this Verizon thread is another fork.
ALSO, due to information not available back in September I wouldn't be surprised if some or all the bootloader locked carrier variants (like Verizon especially) have fastboot flash commands -- if someone could unlock the bootloader.
This is a complete turnaround from what I thought back in September, when it seemed LG had removed the fastboot flash commands from all the 2017 flagship phones. If you read that post I linked above I give my reasons why the change in thinking.
I still believe the LG Developer Bootloader Unlock list is the only GUARANTEED way these LG V30 phones can be rooted -- and thus why I advised everyone to buy the phones that would be eligible for that bootloader unlock list... But I would be very curious to see an AT&T or Verizon or even U.S. Cellular LG V30 model bootloader unlocked by some exploint -- to see what's underneath.
While this could all be discussed in the LG Bootloader Unlock and Root thread, there's nothing wrong with having a dedicated Verizon variant thread if there's enough interest. Basically you will need some developer to find an exploit.
Read post #2 of the T-Mobile thread. At first it seemed like it was starting out as duplicate/rehash of the LG V30 Bootloader Unlock and Root thread -- and I pointed out it was unnecessary -- until the op said he only wanted to discuss the T-Mobile variant. OK, then.
Same here.

I'm considering getting a V30. If I find a US998, is unlock & root virtually guaranteed? Also, it sounds like the T-mobile models are unlockable & rootable. If I find a carrier-unlocked T-mobile phone, will it be able to use Verizon's LTE technology (or whatever is the latest) or will I be stuck with GSM or something else that doesn't match the best Verizon has to offer?
Thanks!

The open market US998 V30/V30+ has not yet been placed on the LG Developer Bootloader Unlock list. Should be, soon (it's been six weeks since release).
The T-Mobile variant does not yet have root. One guy said he has it figured out, but he bricked his phone and is waiting for replacement. In the meantime, other methods are being worked on.
You wouldn't have Verizon CDMA bands with T-Mobile phone.

Most likely not, they use the iemi to identify devices.

Okay so, since I'm sticking with the VS996 (for now) I'm really optimistic on root/bootloader unlock, just to clarify though, so the current situation is that the T-Mobile variant HAS unlocked bootloader BUT commands disabled hence no TWRP or root...
On the other hand we have the Verizon variant which has LOCKED bootloader, but could potentially have all commands intact/not striped away...
So all in all, if some amazing devs find a way to unlock the bootloader, we could potentially have a strong chance of root?, (Assuming commands are actually there)
With android 8.0 officially rolled out, I'm just wondering if anyone is currently looking for any exploits/or working towards cracking/unlocking the bootloader, thanks for any replies, staying optimistic :fingers-crossed:

Personally not a developer or really know anything about developing root, but we could start a bounty for the VS996 and/or other versions.

Sounds good, hopefully this will add some encouragement to any developers currently trying :highfive:
Omg, spent hours scouring XDA for 'VS996' & even just '996' only ever finding one thread... and a random Google search finds this thread. Anyways, my adhd makes busy forums hard to sift thru and I'll cut to the chase as I've been reading for hours... On this VS996...
I have a VS996 that can be used for fodder (testing).
I hate Verizon and want on Google Fi so I'm kicking myself for not getting a Pixel at this point. You got stuff you want me to try? Sweet. I run Linux as a competent user.... But im currently in the middle of soldering a new power jack on my laptop... while ALSO in the middle of moving....
Lemme know.

Unfortunately, although I'm sure everyone in here is very appreciative of this, I don't think there's any developers actually working on the VS996, I hope there is/or will be for you guys, but don't get your hopes up...
You can't even get to the hidden menus with the Verizon variant.
Just so everyone is aware. The VS996 by Verizon does have root with unlocked bootloader. You can Frankenstein Flash vs998 firmware to 7.0 then update to vs998 8.0 then flash an exploit unlock.bin found in the 'WTF...' thread.
I successfully flashed my VS996 to 998, updated to Oreo then flashed the exploit unlock.bin and can confirm this method works.
Verizon can suck it again. Woot.

[OFFICIAL][Bootloader] LG Unlcok Bootloader for G7 European model LMG710EM

Hi.
In a few days I'll be happy to use an LG G7, model LMG710EM.
I'm looking for Root and Recovery and I read something about problem with locked bootloader. So G7 need a patched boot image to get root.
But, 6 day's ago, LG, release the official unlocking for the bootloader.
Italian article here: https:**gizblog.it/2018/06/lg-g7-thinq-disponibile-sblocco-bootloader-ufficiale
And, ther, the official LG page.
https:**developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev
I hope to post this news in the right section. I'm just a "customer" for XDA. Not able to develope anithing (no time in my life to study something about... ).
May be a new possibility to have, root, twrp and roms?
Thanks all for you great development
