Turning screen off while in messages app causes phone call - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

So, I'm habitual about turning off my screen. I've noticed that occasionally if I leave the screen on the native messages app, and hit the power button to turn off the screen, it will sometimes trigger a phone call. The only way I can catch it in time is when I feel the phone vibrate.
Has anyone else have this problem? It's driving me a little crazy, because I can't seem to replicate it, it just happens spontaneously.

Not in the few times I tried it. I honestly don't like any of the Samsung built-ins so I only tried the message app for a few days. Like you I do usually hit the power button by habit mostly, but never noticed that.

very annoying feature that i wish to turn off

when i'm in a text message with the keyboard closed and i decide to reply to the message and open the keyboard, the message screen rotates and the dial screen appears. no matter what i do this happens. is there a fix 4 this?
never happened on mine before.
The screen rotation is intentional. Perhaps you're accidentally hitting the "call" button when you extend the keyboard? I tend to hit the volume control myself - that, or I end up pressing the screen somewhere.
Seems to work
shasarak i think your advice worked. I found a new way to open and close plus i reset. Now i just need to find a solution to the spontaneous and occasional shut down.
Realized that the shut down happens when i close the screen over the keyboard to hard. another little surprise.

powerbutton application

Does anyone know of an app that changes the behaviour of the powerbutton? I keep activating the screen while it's in my pocket...
Not possible, and how the hel you manage to turn it on all the time?!?
Never happened to me!
perhaps my button is more sensetive? I think it happens when I put it in my pocket, when I push it down I either touch it with my finger, or if the phone is upside down, it gets pressed down against the bottom of the pocket. Sometimes I think I press the button when I take the phone out of my pocket.
I have noticed it's turned on when I take it out, and once it even took a photo.... I tried the LockBot app, but it seems it doesn't work every time, so I had to return to the standard. I might try to get the paid version, when/if I get that option at any time.
So, I'd like to have an app that would change the powerbutton. E.g. hold it down for 2 sec, click it twice, or something, to activate the screen.

[Q] Hardware button seems stuck, any way to disable it?

My hardware button for end call / quick list sometimes gets stuck when pressing the screen close to it, any other hardware buttons and sometimes even at random it seem. I can't seem to fix it, so is it possible to disable it?
I looked into AE Button Plus, but that program does not solve anything, I keep having the problem making the phone impossible to handle at times: calls keep getting hung up and my phone constantly changes to the home screen.
My Call button keeps getting stuck making my phone almost impossible to use. My phone keeps calling the last number and the Voice commands keeps coming on. Hope someone can give some tips on how to unstick a button.

[Q] Anybody else's screen shut off randomly from time to time?

My screen will sometimes shut off after only a few seconds, long before the set timeout, and it doesn't seem to be tied to any specific activity. I could be browsing the web, on the xda app, sometimes at a menu screen of a game, it doesn't seem to matter. When this happens, the power button brings me right back to what I was doing, not going to the lock screen. I'd say it happens 5-10 times a day. It's not that big a deal to me, more of an annoyance than anything. Anybody else experiencing this?
Me too

Bummer! I've been fortunate with my device/roms, haven't had any problems except one week my notification light would shut off while charging for long periods of time. On calks 2.8.1

I figured out what was causing it- power saving mode. I turned that off, the problem went away.

screen wake vibrate error?

Sometimes, when I try to wake the phone up (after pressing power button)
it lags a bit, then shows up, but not only that, it has a slight vibrate... then about 30 seconds later, vibrates again as it tries to upload something and asks me to confirm which method to use, Google Drive, Gmail, or Browser.
I tried to upload to drive, and it saved a screen cap and some other files... I presume it's "error reporting"?
am I the only one who gets this?
is there a way to turn that "feature" off? it's a bit annoying when I need to check something in a rush, and then bothers again when that upload prompt comes up...
oh and I'm running google's stock JB Rom, had the same problem with JellyBelly, and never had it when I was on ICS
I believe this happens when you push up/down at the same time. If I am wrong, it is some combination of buttons that causes it. Happens quite often when pulling from car dock. Annoying yes. I think there is a way to disable it but you will need to search or wait for someone that knows to answer.
need more high def music...
I get this aswell, not sure how to replicate it but it happens about twice per day.
Annoying!
