There are plenty of GSI images with different roms.
https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/wiki/Generic-System-Image-(GSI)-list
Be sure to test only A/B partition compatible roms with the A2 Lite.
Most of them probably will have some serious bugs, others might doesn't boot at all, but at least there are some custom roms.

Disagree, among other resources we have root and unlocked bootloader. Factory IMG is available and like was said, many GSI ROMs out there. Folks are working with this phone, it may not be a Dev magnet, but this phone is easily modded.

why is there not fully working roms then?
if it had lots of options and was easy you would see them posted in these forums and some one would of done a miui port

6 years ago people say the same thing about mediatek devices
but some of us are actually able to taste some of the best custom rom out there
chill out people
devs are working
they are here for free
they owe you guys nothing
by the looks of everything
custom roms and fully working TWRP is coming sooner or later.

GSI are one single rom for more devices, right? That's why are a bit incompatible with mia2lite

I'm using GSI pixel experience on my mia2 lite. Only hotspot not working that bothers me a little.
I'm enjoying it.

Do you want to use anything that requires root? Then yes. You don't? Then no.
I personally do use apps that require root, plus I enjoy having full control over my phones, so I immediately root, unlock the bootloader, and install a custom recovery. But that's not for everyone.
Just use it for a week and see if there's any functionality you miss. Or to put it a different way: when in doubt, no.
well i use xmod b4 but now i cant even if i root my phone cos its x86 i have htc desire x b4 rooted.
but this fone i see a lot of threads "UNOFFICIAL" on rooting, unlocking bootloader, rom and etc... so im 50/50 i dont
want to brick this phone even if its cheap..

Depends on why you'd want to root. I like tinkering and using Adaway, so it was a no brainer for me.

Its your choice. Like what others mentioned. Depends on what you need.
YES. The bloatware is ridiculous. I'm probably going to write a tutorial on how to do everything start to finish if you're buying a new 551. Not that bad if you have all the files. Really easy, but good grief, are all the tutorials out there now confusing. Most don't even tell you, you need to downgrade... Took me hours to figure it out. Finally, have a debloated rom, root, and busybox installed so I can install Kali Linux
Yeah the bloatwares! But i think im gonna wait till android m has been released thanks all?

Same, I am going to wait until Android M as well. I found that when you root phones b4 they get their "improved" stock firmware, the modem/wifi/bluetooth never seem to flash the same and are always buggy. I am being careful with this phone because it works quite good minus the terrible battery life, but on my OnePlus One, I found a 40% increase in battery life even on the early early Android M roms. Seeing that there is no roms even being worked on for 6.0, I am going to play it safe...after all, some of the bloat can be removed without root. Of course not the annoying ones though

Yep that literally posted about the same time I made the comment lol. But having official firmware for Android M built by ASUS themselves, then having it customized by Asus would be better. I do not mean to insult CM, but I have yet to see a truly stable version of their software. Every phone I have had has shown to have issues with CM based roms. It's not the guys customizing the roms, its just the fact that CM is more universal and not necessarily developed for this specific phone by the original coders. Modded code always has issues, and if it comes out perfect, I hope these big companies pay whoever mods it to perfection and gives them a phat paying job. I want ZenUI, its one of the best non AOSP UI out there IMOP. I only want root to clean out the extras I don't want/need. It has more customization than a phone needs for the most part.
I am waiting also.

Is there a Custom ROM for Huawei 7X/Mate SE?

Would like to use a clean version of Android instead of the EMUI version that is loaded on all their phones.
Seeing how these phones are identical, figured what would work for one would work with the other.
Thanks for giving me any insight.
Coming from the Galaxy Note 4 - hoping I'm not making a mistake with this phone that is enroute.

Guess you haven't bothered looking at the ROMs and development section. While alot of ROMs are not what I would deem "daily material", their is working going on to get ROMs on this device.

Here is a list of supported custom ROMs on Mate SE, Choose the A only ROM.
https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/wiki/Generic-System-Image-(GSI)-list
The whole custom ROM world has changed, Now you need to apply system.img instead of rom.zip using fastboot command.
I have the PHH-Treble installed on my Huawei Mate SE. here is the link.

In addition, I'd check out the Open Kirin site. I've read the Lineage version is outstanding and well tuned for the chip. They list the 7x as supported but I've read the Mate SE most certainly is also.

Coincidentally, just booted that ROM (on my SE) today. It's very very good, noticed a few minor glitches to do with the camera and navigation (will let them know about em).
I'll admit though, emui8 is growing on me It's certainly better than 5.1 was. Love to see the roms becoming available though. No doubt when updates stop (or before), they will be critical to have.

I don't mind emui except that the power-saver regularly kills tasker, ad-blocking vpns, etc. I've tried everything to exempt them from power saving but no go. The battery life is outstanding though (I usually only lose 15% after a full day's usage), so for average users it's a bonus.

Nothing terribly serious. I didn't use it for long, but the camera option for selfie shutter 'palm to camera' didn't work. Also the recently taken shots didn't show in the bottom gallery (I read this is fixed now). And the navigation arrows at the bottom seemed to not be persistent somehow (after a reboot this was okay).
It's easy to go back to stock, except if you haven't backed everything up, have to reconfigure, add / subtract apps etc.
I'd suggest searching for the openKirin website, they seem to be doing the most development. Also follow their directions, they worked for me and pretty easy.
Hi
How does one flash the "Openkirin_los_beta4" Iso to the Mate SE (BND-L34)? TWRP?? Fastboot??? what are the exact steps to not render it a paper weight again lol; Do you need Magisk-v16.0 to root it as well?

No, you don't need a custom bootloader.
You only need unlocked bootloader and unlocked frp.
TWRP is not supported on OpenKirin ROMs (especially on 7x twrp won't work).
You just need to flash the .img file through bootloader and then reboot to recovery and do a factory data reset.
Can anyone give me some advice: I have the Mate SE, currently on EMUI 8.0.0.332 (security update available but not installed), with TWRP and Magisk. I would love to install a custom ROM, but the OpenKirin site says TWRP isn't supported. Can I still install one of those builds and just expect no support if something goes wrong, or should I find some way to return to full stock before flashing? And if I need stock recovery, where can I find a download for it? I haven't had any luck on searching here yet.

Pretty much any GSI works so long as you have updated to EMUI 8 sometime in the past.

Is there more ROMs?

I recently purchased an tab S4 just an update from my previous Samsung tablet. I was wondering is there more ROMs for this tablet or ROMs currently in development? I noticed theres like 2 ROMs for this tablet. I have a note 8 and I'm currently running deluxerom on and it, and I really enjoy the tweaks and customization I'm able to do. I was looking for a same kind of feature for my tablet. Would greatly appreciate the answers I'm looking for. Thanks!

Pretty much zero support. You can get a few 9.0 GSI ROMs to boot, but they all have issues. Mine has been sitting around since it was purchased while still using my old 2014 model.

I had thought the same thing, but it seems the S3 is the last tablet to get real support.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/project-treble/trebleenabled-device-development
Some of the ones for 9 will work, but most features won't work too well, if at all.
You might be able to get another rom to work, I know I had no luck. Even trying ones with similar hardware, they all failed to even flash since the booting numbers are different.
Kind of have to be satisfied with Samsung, half baked custom roms or sell the thing.

Hey Veekay I tried it and you're right unfortunately I came across the same issue as you brother
Now I'm stuck and I need help sorting my device out, was wondering if you knew this issue or could help?
When I got the stock firmware back and then when I flash TWRP with odin after going into TWRP I get 0mb as internal
so when I format and then go back into my load up the screen after SAMSUNG says "verification failed" and then reset
on the bottom. I tried other options as well. Without even wiping on TWRP the devices boots up into the setup wizard for the firmware fine
but after I wipe TWRP so I can get access to my internal drive my samsung boots into that verification reset screen. Got any clue as to how I can
resolve this issue? Thanks a bunch!

Have you tried just reloading the latest stock firmware from scratch?
Yup, its unfortunate that there isn't much community support for this device. The Tab S4 is Project Treble supported and a few GSI ROMS do work. But as others have said they are unstable and not for use as a daily driver. We have a few discussion threads here talking about them.

you can install a Gsi rom, with two ways
Via TWRP, or Via Fastboot : https://www.xda-developers.com/flash-generic-system-image-project-treble-device/ (Tab S4 is a-only arm64)
for any other question, it is better to ask in the thread : https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr...vice-development/aosp-9-0-phh-treble-t3831915
(read carefully in OP & you can post, every single question there for your device, and you will get certainly help from the developer or from any other user..)

You are going to have to just wipe it and start over from square one, unless you made a TWRP backup before starting all of this.
Download and flash the latest stock rom from recovery and then you can load twrp again.
I was looking at the possibility of using GSI's on some devices, and while they can offer new life to older devices, they're not entirely stable all the time unless you're willing to make your own changes. I know Lineage has made some excellent progress, but it's not fullproof yet and I wouldn't try it unless you're willing to not use your device as a daily use device.
I had an extra T-Mobile Revvlry which is basically a rebranded Moto g7 Play that I installed the Lineage GSI image and it works fairly well. However, this is more the exception to the rule and Moto devices, I feel, are far simpler in design vs certain Samsung devices. It also had a ton of trial and error involved for me to get it up and running properly.
Is it possible as the s4 becomes older, more people buy it and Samsung stops releasing official updates that someone will come along and create a ROM for it? Or is it more like Samsung locked the bootloaders and its close to impossible to write a ROM for it? Is it still possible to root the s4?

samsung, maybe at the end of july to give the upgrade to android 10....it is very likely to happen I think
yes,all Gsi Roms still have various problems unfortunately...
my opinion is: stay to stock rom for now....you can "uninstall" many applications if you want & without root, via "samsung package disabler"(paid) from playstore, or with this way:
https://beebom.com/how-remove-bloatware-android-without-root/
also, you can Install "NiceLock Downloader Companion App" ,to add some features on your device : https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-9/themes/nicelock-module-download-links-module-t3923844
with this way I operate my device until now..

It's true, im guessing the reason is that all the major devs are dont have the non PRO variants... the 7 and 7T Pro have pretty decent custom ROMs with support without twrp... its just the fact that the devs dont have this device for testing I miss RR OS and Havoc OS

I guess most of you already tried and saw that op7tPro roms are running on op7t with some minor issues . Camera is not working , fingerprint is working but it needs a bit calibration due to resolution differences between two phones . Other features already running very well . RR , Havoc , Paranoid Android and some other roms are already developing for op7tpro . I am not developer but it should be easier port from op7tpro to op7t than developing from the beginning . I am very eager to test this kind of efforts . Sometimes I am thinking that why I didn't buy op7tpro .
Somehow I can't complain with my OnePlus 7T on stock system and stock recovery with root coz I have actually everything what I need. Even without fully working TWRP. Magisk Root with YouTube Vanced, Axet's Call Recorder, BusyBox, LSpeed,MagiskHide Props Config and and few other modules is not enough? All bank apps works good and SafetyNet Pass as well using Termux and few commands to get fingerprint certification. Netflix "visible" in PlayStore etc.
What other profits can you get guys with Custom ROM? I don't think that much more than with this. If is not enough for someone always can add module RiRuCore and EdXposed for more customization.

I definetely agree with you . I am trying all custom roms and trying to use a few hours and go back to stock or beta (mostly beta because It has more features than stock) . Because there is no custom roms stable , robust and fluent like OOS . But I love to use different tastes that's why we are in XDA and we are using Oneplus which known as best brand to support custom roms and developers . I know oneplus already giving us beta per month and stable per two month . Ours is rom installing passion .
Devs got older and wiser. They don't have much time to do free stuff.
Well I think we should blame "google dynamic partition" that our device (and other device that ship with android 10) didnt get proper TWRP. You all can see forum for pixel 4/4XL also got slow development. Also device like pixel3/3xl getting slow after android 10 release compared to android 9. Google is not friendly to development anymore... day by day google slowly became apple.

Honestly, right now I wouldn't blame the Google changes and no TWRP. Developing is pretty much the same except a different flashing procedure.
I think it's either the developer who doesn't own the device, or they are not willing to try living without TWRP.
(Whether we like it or no, this is the future, or at least for a long time).
There are more on telegram, if you search around you should fine some good ROMs.
Yes the twrp situation is the biggest problem here it makes flashing stuff a pita and using msmtool to fix a minor issue when your phone won't boot ??

Nah. You can easily flash a fastboot rom or some images of it. You don't need to use MSM if you aren't fully bricked.
True still not as noob/user friendly as zip and twrp though ?
Which fastboot roms are full working? I have test aosip and MSM-Xtended but both have bad auto brighness.

Question Has anyone tried GSI on Alioth yet?

I'm still waiting for my K40... And need to wait for the unlock...
Was wonder if anyone has tried GSI ROM yet? Phh's AOSP etc?
I haven't. However the android 12 pre release GSI boots but the system UI keeps crashing apparently.
Why do you want a GSI? Is there a specific ROM that's missing that you want to flash?

I prefer a more official release of ROM... No offend to any Devs... Just prefer a ROM I can stick to longer... Rather than one that stop maintaining and had to switch again and again... I've had a phone before... No official ROM... And someone making tonnes of ROMs, but none go official...
Prefer a close to native ROM... Or lighter ROM. AOSP/LOS.
I have only a laptop with 8GB RAM, also no knowledge to build my own ROM.

I think the same about the custom roms. I can recommend https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations which I used for other phones, but didnt try a GSI with poco f3 yet, need to wait for unlocking.
Btw unlock delay is so useless and only annoys customers. All shops where I looked for the poco f3 sold it unlocked for +30€.

I can understand why they do it, it's to stop the people sell the device on AliExpress, buying in bulk from the pre launch sale and install malwares on the device and ship out.
So the 7 days delay means they have to hold it in stock and make their business not very nice... Stock pilings.
