Sound Issues on Moto G6 Play - Moto G6 Play Questions & Answers

Recently purchased one and bar the sound issue I am pretty much happy with it
The problem with the sound is that it is so low! I used to have an Xperia which had decent sound - on this you need to put it to the maximum settings for it to be anything like reasonable (and that still is not great)
I was beginning to think I had a dodgy hand set, but a friend purchased one too and that is exactly the same. Or is it just unlucky to have two that are broke?
I downloaded Volume Booster GOODEV, which helps a little when playing videos / output and I have also messed about with the Dolby and graphic equalizer settings
Just surprised that no reviews mentioned this issue - which made me suspect I had a broken device until I also heard my friends.
Any recommendations / any work-rounds / fixes?
Many thanks'

If you have root you can try editing mixer_paths.xml and see if that helps. If the phone has Dolby then make sure to turn off Volume Leveling.

Any idea which values to edit? I have a G6, which I assume will have the same values. I have previously edited the mixer_paths.xml on my Moto E4, but the G6 does not have the same values.

I had the same issue on my moto G6, I rooted the device and installed magisk. Then installed the Ainur Sauron module. It works so good you won't even believe it. There's no UI just install reboot and profit.

Not required. It only needs to be disabled. I'm pretty sure that you can remove it entirely though.

[MotoMaxx][TWRP] High Volume Mod

Hello guys, here i present you:
High Volume Mod For Moto Maxx
When i First got the device, i noticed that the speaker and incall volume are too low, coming from a Oneplus One, it was extremely noticiable
So based on the guide and work of @abhi08638, i created this volume mod for Moto Maxx
WORKS ON KITKAT AND LOLLIPOP STOCK BUILDS!
The stock Volume Value is 84, this mod puts it on 90 making it noticiable louder.
i've already tested it and its safe, doesnt affect anything .
To get better results i highly recommend turning off audio effects on speaker on:
sound/Audio Effects/Speaker/ Equalizer off
Prerequisites:
Rooted
TWRP Installed
Installation:
Assuming you already have TWRP, take the attached zip file (Moto Maxx High Volume) and flash it on TWRP
thats all!
Uninstall:
Flash the attached zip (Moto Maxx Stock Volume) and Flash it on TWRP
Thats all!, the changes are undone!
You'll see the diference, to notice the results make a call with somebody before flashing this zip and then make a call again after flashing this zip, you'll notice the difference.
If this was useful Press Thanks and if you have $1.00 spare on paypal, i can always take it

HOW TO: Disable Camera Shutter Sound (Root)

I was getting tired of hearing the camera shutter sound when taking photos, so I dug around the file system and found two audio files that are the shutter sound. I renamed these, rebooted, and everything is working great. Let me know if this does or doesn't work for you!
Before you get started, you need to be rooted for this method.
Step 1:
Use a root-capable file browser of your choice (I prefer SolidExplorer) and navigate to /system/media/audio/ui
Step 2:
Locate cam_snap_0.ogg and camera.click.ogg and rename the file extensions to .OLD, as seen below.
Step 3:
Reboot, then test
Alternatively, (non-root) you can set your phone to vibrate or silent mode and it wont make the shutter sound.

Not all of us keep our phone on silent all the time, and most of us don't want to think about turning the volume down every time we take a picture. If we never care to have the shutter sound, why not just disable it completely?
what does the .OLD do to the file? just out of curiosity.

It onyl changes the name. It does not affect the contents of the file in anyway. It will fail a HASH check though so revert it back in order to do an update to another OS if you are stock.

This was before Xposed came out for the G4, not everyone wants to use Xposed as it hurts battery life, and some people prefer the simple approach.

I understand. But xposed has such a negligible impact on battery as I doesn't matter. And the tweaksbox is as simple as it gets; one button disables the sound and can turn it back on.

thanks for this! for some reason Tasker doesn't recognize when the Camera is started so the Silent method is weak... and while G4 TweaksBox would be nice, I'm also having issues getting the unlocker to work. Emailed dev and am waiting for a response...
EDIT: looks like renaming doesn't work for me... interesting...
EDIT2: created silent versions of the two files and now... we have silence!

Stereo Speaker Mod for OOS

This module allows the earpiece to be used as speaker, and mods the microphone pickup when recording video. Audio from earpiece might not be as clear as main speaker. This module was tested on Oxygen OS 4.5.5 version, but should work on other versions as well.
This module was originally created by @magura320 for OnePlus 3T. I have used this on OnePlus 3T and now ported to OnePlus 5. This is my first mod on XDA, so please be patient with any issues. Let me know if I have missed any credits and would be happy to add them.

mixer_paths_tasha-stereo.xml - If you don't want to install the above mods, you can just replace mixer_paths_tasha.xml in system/etc folder with attached file. (Remove "-stereo" from attached file).
mixer_paths_tasha-stock.xml - If something goes wrong, you can just replace mixer_paths_tasha.xml in system/etc folder with attached file. (Remove "-stock" from attached file).

Yes there absolutely is, have seen these in the past on other singular speaker devices and although they work amazingly well there is always a risk.
What does "mods the microphone pickup when recording video" mean exactly?
For those of us that use Viper to enhance the phone speaker, this might be a really bad idea. I can just see the tiny earpiece speaker dying under the extra boost given by other sound mods. This is a great idea though and I would love to use it. Is there a way to regulate the level of sound out of that top speaker or is it just opening the flood gates and using the same power as the real phone speaker?
Awesome, i miss this dual sound mod on my S7 Edge, now i retrieved this mod on my OP5 yeahhhhhh
Thanks !

I tested it and the earpiece is actually softer than the speaker. But you can definitely hear it when watching videos.

Will the same magisk mod work with OP3 as for op5 since there is no seperate link provided?
I did install this. I'm still apprehensive about turning it up too loud but it works well. It doesn't give off a ton of extra sound but it does sound more balanced which is nice.
Can u also make for Leeco le max 2
Is the stock mixer_paths_tasha for op5 only or both 3t nd 5? It'd be great if we manually can edit the mixer_paths section if that stereo editing section is reveled.

Without flashing TWRP you can't have root. My understanding is you need root or TWRP to install this. Pretty sure (like 99.9999%) that you can't flash stuff like this from stock recovery... Otherwise what would be the point of TWRP in the first place.

[MOD][ViPER4Android] CrystalSpeaker profile - great sound for speaker!

After spending a lot of time I created profile with great clear sound for speaker in ViPER4Android.
Only for Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite!
Simple installing guide:
1. Unzip contain of folder ViPER4Audio from archive to folder ViPER4Audio in your internal storage.
2. Press menu button in V4A app and load profile CrystalSpeaker (!maybe you will have to do it twice because of enabling convolver!).
3. Try it and give me some feedbacks.

Im trying this out , thanks for the MiA2L customise V4A . Will give my feedbacks once I tried for few days
I think this is a really good project. The phone sounds like a much more bigger (cheap) bluetooth speaker, but more better than the original speaker sound. I've tried this IRS with my headphones, and that sounds better too.
Thank you for the project!
It works for me yes the sound is clear great job
I have installed V4A FX but it doesn't show up anywhere in the system/apps.
Could you please let me know what selections need to be done during installation (there's quite a few of them).
There's also a different Magisk module called XHiFi but I don't know what's the difference to FX.

Thanks. It wokred fine with the installation. I activated the convolver in speaker options + loaded your profile but, unfortunately, I can't hear any difference in speaker loudness/quality.
MOREOVER, google play protection continously reminds me that this app is harmful - why is that?

Try loaded it twice (load, unload, load), dont switch convolver. Or you can easily let play music and load/unload/switch simultaneosly in V4A. Check also your driver status in V4A app.
Google play says it can be potentionally harmful, becase the app wasnt install via google play. But dont worry, this is for every root-non-google-play app.
In the end I managed to force v4a to load the profile, thanks.

I like it but bass tend to get a little bit muddy, inevitable I guess, I'll try lowering them in the equalizer since speaker optimization is already pretty heavy

Yes, JamesDSP works. You can find the thread here with the download. You need to install AML 4.0 then JamesDSP 4.2 in Magisk Manager than reboot and you'll have working Dolby.

It's slightly louder at +3db than stock at (anything higher and the speakers just get muddy) and you can set the stereo width, equalizer and a bunch of other things but I haven't messed with it with my Pixel buds yet.
