It's on a CDMA network that's why it has a PRL . I'd say its either on Verizon or sprint or even project fi. You can always call google with the person and verify what version it is

Even better, and doesn't require Google to call, is to ask the seller if they have the box. If they do, have them look for a SIM ID number - NOT ESIM ID number - on the box. If one is present, you have a Verizon device, as all Verizon Pixels have a nano SIM included in the box.

That site works for the LG P2XL, does not work for the P2. I also would not post your IMEI which is a unique number. The phone will still work on any network, although if Verizon the bootloader will be locked.

It is a pixel 2 xl, forgot to add the xl. Figures it was fine since its in the xl forum. Yes I know vzw can't unlock the bootloader that's why I'm trying to find out where it's from. The person who owns it isn't tech friendly, it was hard enough telling them how to find the imei. I want a google one. I already have one but want a second and its a good deal $400, with a ton of chargers and cases.

Download the Swappa App, it will tell you which version you have. Tap Identify Your Device at the top. If it's Verizon then it will be labeled, " Google Pixel 2 Xl - Verizon Edition.

How to tell if Pixel XL is Google or Verizon Edition?

I bought a Pixel XL used on eBay and I can't seem to find any way of telling which version of the phone this is.
The model number is the same for the Verizon and Google models.
Anyone know of a way to distinguish the two?

That only works if new in-the-box.
Once unlocked the toggle is grayed out, even on the Google version.

This is going to sound stupid, but I was so excited to unlock the bootloader that I used the dePixel8 to unlock it, without even checking.
I read that it would work on a Verizon or Google one and did it, without thinking of not being able to tell what version it is in the future.

Check you're Cid. Vzw is vzw001 I believe.
anyone figured this out?
At the bottom back of phone is a model number. You need a magnifying glass to see it. Somewhere on this forum is the key to the different model numbers. I saw it a couple days ago but don't remember where.
Edit: Go here https://www.techwalls.com/google-pixel-pixel-xl-model-number-differences/
Mine is 2PW2100 and I'm on Fi SIM but it supports Verizon too. Mine is an RMA replacement of a bad Google Nexus 6p.

The verizon and google version have the same model number. That is probably why OP is asking how to tell the difference.
EDIT: you can tell by using the following command after enabling usb debugging in developer options.
Code:
adb shell getprop ro.boot.cid
Verizon will return something like VZW__001
and Google will return all 1's like 11111111
What if its all 0s ?

I was pointing this out to a V store manager and when we checked his personal Pixel XL under developer options, the OEM Unlocking option did not even show. It wasn't grayed out, it was hidden. I held my real Pixel XL up next to his and showed the option there. He finally relented and admitted/realized that the Verizon phone is not the same as the pure Google phone. Verizon f's them up.

I there any other way to tell? For example is the VZW model missing certain bands that the Play model supports? Or a different serial number? Im trying to buy a Pixel XL and I dont want to be F*CKED over with the Verizon one and none of the sellers show the settings page with OEM Unlocking. If I cant figure this out Im just going to get a different phone

Turn on Dev options and look to see if the OEM unlock slider is blue or gray. If it's blue it can be unlocked.
That is the only way to be sure. Even the CID check can be wrong, we have seen quite a few phones mislabeled by Google.

Well that sucks, the only reason I wanted to make sure is because I dont want to argue with the seller to take it back for an issue they most likely dont understand (that and I dont want to pay return shipping only to end up with another Verizon model). Also the only reason I am even considering replacing my Nexus 6 is the fact it has a 32 bit CPU and the fact Google seems to be itching to get rid of 32 bit support completely
What I did: 1. look for private sellers, not stores or dealers, and avoid refurbs; 2. look for the color on the box being labelled in French as well as English (Verizon versions only show color in English); 3. contact the seller to ask them if they bought it direct from Google (if bought from anywhere other than Google Store or Project Fi it is the Verizon version).

How to tell between verizon and unlocked without having the actual device

Hi, I currently am using a galaxy s9+ and I don't like it because you have to jump through so many hoops for root. I want to buy a pixel 2 xl used from my area but need unlocked version. How can I tell so I don't buy the wrong one?

Buy it directly from Google is the best way to be sure. Best Buy, Verizon, and most all the other retailers only sell the verizon variant, which means..it's locked down. Swappa isn't bad either for finding an unlockable version :good:
If you have the box, look at the barcodes.
If you see:
SIM ID= LOCKED
ESIM ID = Google version

If either Verizon or Google, it will be very clear. What does yours say under BUYER CODE and BUYER NAME ? Mine are USX & GOOGLE_OPEN_64G.
if it has VZW in the buyer name, its locked bootloader.

See screenshots below. Can someone on an Unlocked Pixel 3 XL with an Unlockable boot loader confirm these are there or not?

I have unlocked my bootloader and have vzw apps installed. Those are standard for accepting your sim cards. You should have Sprint on there somewhere also. Maybe other carriers as well. Standard. Afaik. Idk why you can't unlock your bl. Are your platform tools up to date? I have all those apps you listed and ordered mine from Google, 128 GB black. Received about a month ago.
its normal, if you have VZW sim it installs the correct packages to get certain carrier functions working (i.e img, volte, vowifi etc)

Vzw OMA Trigger

VZW_Multicast_MW
So looks like different shipped phones
Looking at buying the device on Google store it defaults to the Verizon variant. So if you just blasted through the buying process you could've bought a Verizon model from Google. Also them "accidentally" shipping a Verizon model is just as likely so it could be either, but it's worth checking your receipt to see what you guys bought.

I had to read this post a 2 times before I deleted my rage comment. Yes I checked and I have attached my original purchase. I made sure it was unlocked.
I also bought unlocked from Google, I checked and didn't want to blur my info(so you'll just have to take my word on it)(or not), and I have all the listed apks from op. But I also had no issue unlocking it. Also to note, I have straight talk service that uses VZW towers, so that could also be the culprit. But I did blast through the buying process when Google released the 3xl, but had no ill effects. Lol
It was just a guess, but obviously I was wrong. I bought an unlocked model myself, popped in my verizon sim and ran stock for about two weeks before I unlocked the bootloader. So it has to be a device issue imo, else I'd be in the same boat if It had something to do with a Verizon sim.

Pixel 3 xl verizon version

I was wondering how to tell from an unopened box what version a pixel 3 xl is? Is the model number different? From searching on Google I only see G013C mentioned but it's not clear if that's a designation for either the play store or Verizon version

I'm not exactly sure what you are looking for. If you by it directly from Verizon, the phone will locked. If you buy it from google, you can get an unlocked verizon version and insert the verizon sim card. That is the version I bought for my wife.

Unless he's buying it online and the seller is saying it's a Google version and wants confirmation.
Just got my unlocked pixel 3 xl just black 128gb from the google store and it has a sku of GA00472-US. However the same phone from verizon has a sku of GA00478-US. So they are different. You can get the skus on verizons site, and by googling the different models as if you were buying them.

If you can get the IMEI number you can run it through this Verizon Website and it will return whether the device is VRZ or Non-VRZ

This is very helpful information as good searches have come up almost completely empty for me. I'm trying to find a used or refreshed google store variant and it seems impossible to find the info from the sellers. they all list the same model number as being GA00475-US. some advertise it as a Verizon unlocked phone, and some as a GSM unlocked phone. I'm looking for the 64GB version in black but they all just list the same aforementioned model number regardless. only info I'm finding is from best buy with that 475 number also listing it as a version unlocked phone. So I have no clue what I'm getting basically.
google runs a solid game... If anyone can offer further incite to me or feature searchers that would be much appreciated. what is the GA00475-US model number, is it just the 64GB version, and how can we be sure we're avoiding the Verizon garbage?

Maybe this post will help? The unopened box clearly states the IMEI. I would insist on knowing that IMEI anyway before purchase in order to check it is not blacklisted in the U.S.
If the imei starts with 35 it's Verizon and 99 it's Google. Also Verizon models will have a Sim Id or iccid and the Google model will have the EID or esim id
It's different now my IMEI starts with 99 and it's not only bootloader locked it's network locked to sprint.... i used this 99 IMEI thing to buy a pixel 3 xl from a third party and ya fool me once shame on me? Fool me twice ...... Ya
well it sucks to be me I bought a verizon 3 xl. damb! i thought for sure someone had figured out an exploit by now

I usually use Swappa myself. I always ask the seller to do the IMEI check and show me a screenshot of the answer, and if they don't I move on to another seller. I also ask them if they are sure it's a Google model and not a Verizon model and tell them that it needs to be a Google model so I can unlock the bootloader, making clear that I'm not talking about carrier unlocked but bootloader unlocked. That way, at least it's documented so if it turns out to be a Verizon Swappa can see what I was asking for.
I've seen a lot of people get Verizon models on eBay so be careful about them. In my experience, Swappa is pretty good at dealing with things. It's the sellers that don't always make it clear exactly what model you are buying.
I didn't realize they don't allow questions for businesses selling phones. I've always got mine from private individuals on Swappa. I've bought about 4-5 phones on Swappa and never had a problem with them. Just need to probe the seller a lot.
Good luck.

See if you can toggle OEM unlocking in Developer Options. If so you can unlock the bootloader. I've never seen both of those come up but considering it says "NVZW" I would guess it is not a Verizon model. Can't be 100% sure though.
