Wi-Fi looses connect after Andoid 9 update on XZ2c - Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact Questions & Answers

Hi,
After performing OTA update to Android 9 Pie WiFi started to experience serios problems.
It connects to Wi-Fi routers like before, but keep constantly loosing connection. The indication in the status bar is like normal. However all apps requiring internet stop working.
In Twitter app, you can browse the tweets but when you want to update the screen you have 'Unable to get tweets at this time'
In Gmail app, you can browse emails in a folder but when you switch to other folder you will have 'Connection error, retry'
In eBay app, you may go into Bids area of the app and see your bids, but when you switch to a lot the app locks.
WiFi calling is not working.
This problem was reported many times this summer, when Pie was available for beta download (Reddit and Google dev forums have a long list of reports). It was suggested that:
-disable\enable WiFi trick can work this out. (It cannot with XZ2c)
-disable IPv6 in router as the Pie tries to establish IPv6 connection (It is not a solution when you are not an admin of a router, but I checked on 3 networks and diffrent models by disabling IPv6- no use).
-disable WiFi discovery in WiFi settings (it does not work).
-reset network setting (I did lost all my saved networks, but it did not help).
I contacted Sony Support and the only suggestions is that OTA update did not go well, so they want me to make update again via Xperia Companion. Meaning hours of backup and loosing information and settings of dozens of apps.
According to the reports (you can google "WiFi issues after Android Pie update") making factory reset is not a solution. I will try to restore the updated Android 9 via Xperia Companion.
But this is the serious issue equal to bricking a phone that quite new yet. (((((((

seems I am experiencing this as well sometimes after PIE update... sh!t..

I made clean install via Xperia Companion and it did not help. Sony wants me to bring it to the service.
Is there a way to roll back to Android 8.1?

Yes, install flashtool and download a firmware that is still on Oreo (check version number). I used the SG one (4G icon and NFC persistent icon). After flashing it, you most likely end up in a bootloop. Fix this with Experia Companion. Don't wait to long though; once Pie is available for all regions, you can't use Companion to fix the bootloop AND stay on Oreo. You will be stuck with Pie. Good luck!

Sound near impossible. When can I get the latest Oreo for ZX2c? Can you guide me to flashtool thread, so that I could read how to do it?

It's not too difficult. All you need to know is at flashtool.net

Installed previous firmware, all problems gone!! Even the speed is faster than on Android Pie
Now I need to find out how to hide Sony's 'New software available' from the notifications.

if you find out please share... did it appear even disabling the auto-update in settings?
and you had to factory reset to revert succesfully to Oreo I think? can you list the steps you followed? I may be interested in reverting to oreo as well until pie will be more stable...tia!

1) I donwloaded and installed flashtool
2) I dowloaded and installed the driver https://developer.sony.com/file/download/xperia-xz2-driver/
3) I find the previous firmware for my region, the latest is 51.1.A.11.51 . It is one big 2.2 Gb *.ftf file, I put it into C:\Users\**yourname*\.flashTool\firmwares on my Win7 pc
4) Run the flashtool and pressed the flash button
5) when prompted I switched off the phone, pressed volume down button and then inserted the USB into phone and pc
6) Waited 7-8 minutes untill the flashing is finished.
Disconnected the phone, pressed power and in 10 minutes I have this cool device up and running like it should!

thanks I already downloaded the .11.51 firmware also, but I don't have the ftf, I have all files extracted... probably because I selected to unpack it automatically.. but I thought I still could find the ftf somewhere... will download it again without the unpacking this time and see.
this way it cleared all your data right? and wiped internal sd also maybe? or all your data was still there after the downgrade?

thanks for the info, fastory reset is not a big problem for me, I think I am downgrading also soon! don't like pies... redownloading ftf now and flashtool (which is taking ages to complete download... so slow!)
edit: even without unpacking I don't have the ftf but three separated files, will google to see how to create the ftf from the firmware files!

nvm

downgrade successful, great to see Oreo running again! quick settings icons in pie are just horrible..
no update notification here yet, but probably just because the ftf i chose (customized ce1) has no pie update available yet...!

I have read some advice that AdGuard app can block Sony Software Updates, but it required installation of crapware (unnecessary browsers) so I will look into other possibilities to block it. This exercise with Pie update made me spend long hours backing up and restoring, so I will need more time.

I'm using adguard to block ads in browser.. maybe if we disable the Sony sw update app via adb will do the trick? i did this to disable some system apps that were not possible to disable from settings (SwiftKey keyboard etc)
i don't mind about future updates so will try tomorrow if i have time and see what happens!

disabled all update relevant apps from the phone via adb shell.. I hope this will prevent the ota update to show up, will see when the PIE update for CE1 will be released! :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

you must install minimal adb for windows and send the adb command, I did it on win10 and it worked fine. also disabled headsup notifications this way, hate them!
when you have minimal adb installed, connect the phone via usb (when it is on and debug mode enabled in advanced settings) open a command prompt from the folder where you have adb.exe and run:
adb devices
... to check if your phone is seen. if so, run the following commands to disable sony update apps:
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.sonyericsson.updatecenter
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.sonymobile.mtp.extension.fotaupdate
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.sonyericsson.mtp.extension.update
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.sonymobile.updatecenter.config.latecmz
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.sonymobile.updatecenter.config.autoinstall
doing like this now when I go to settings > sw update I have now the stock android update app opening, not the sony app anymore, so hope the sony updates won't be seen anymore!
if you have already the notification always shown you can try the above and see if after rebooting the phone, it disappears or not..
let me know!

Kies 2.0.3.11082_152 Now Available (26th Sept 2011)

A new update is available for kies. Launch your kies on pc and you will be promted to upgrade
to the new Kies 2.0.3.11082_152 version.
As normal with any Samsung kies update, you may receive "network disconnected" errors while updating.
Just be patient. Upgrade process takes about 4 minutes to complete.
On the outlook (UI), there is no notice change. But maybe new drivers were introduced to enable to "not-yet-known" upgrade process to bada 2.0.
After installing this hotfix every apps are signed as free of charge (of course they're not, and when trying to buy any of them error occurs).
Doublechecked by installing previous version and this hotfix (as there is still no standalone version).
that update didn't appear into my kies until now!!!!
A request from persons who updated : please check if sp**fing hole is patched or not
Is the installing app just once is still in there???
Is kies more buggy now???
Best Regards
@mylove90
Checked, sp**f works like a charm. The issue which unables reinstalling apps is still there.
But reinstalling the apps works in KIES 1.5.
It seems the problem is in KIES 2.0, not the server.
oh ****
they are fixing bugs with bugs or what?!
i don't get it !!!!!!
i think maybe i'll hold and won't update to this useless update
thanks Qron for the news
Best Regards
Updating now...
It's not connecting to my SGS after the update
new kies version detects beta and custom roms. bad thing.
Send a screenshot of the Bug to Samsung tech support
I got email from Samsung customer service since i complained about the reinstall bug.
They have no idea that kies is doing this and therefore they have asked for screenshots to prove it.
So go to the samsung website then log in then go to my page and then on the left click my q & a.
Send them the screenshot and make your complaint.
They are adamant that KIES is not supposed to prevent you from reinstalling your apps paid or free so its good that they confirmed that this was not their intention.
In the complaint mail I sent to Samsung on 22nd Sept, I included two screenshots.
They replied me that they are already investigating the case.
Maybe Samsung has no central co-ordinating unit to attend to complaints of clients,
each country attends to complaints separately. Just maybe...otherwise why ask for more screen shots.
Well..in that case i'll give them a complaint too & make them wake up
Kies Devs aren't working with Samsung Apps Devs
So maybe Kies Devs are making bugs while Samsung apps Devs have no idea what they did
i hope i am wrong and they are all connected
Best Regards
I have nothing but problems with the new Kies. Couldn't find phone after update, then it said drivers didn't work anymore, got it working by reinstalling drivers again but now it can't find the phone again...!
Didn't think they could make Kies any worse, guess I was wrong

You need to flash to any full firmware of your region.
After flashing, go to admin mode, pre-configuration setting, and install the correct csc for that region.
Then kies will be able to update your phone again.
Best of luck.
After updating Kies to 2.0.3.11082_152 on my Samsung Galaxy S2 , DeviceDataService crashes , cant do any file transfers, ironically kies reads the phones contact data. Whats going on with kies ? earlier before this upgrade it was slow but used to work fine...
I am having a problem which I think started only when I last updated kies, it gave me errors that phone not detected I restarted the computer then finally got it detected but now when I disconnect the media scanner on phone does not run hence the following problem.
1. From Camera / video camcorder window I cannot access the gallery anymore. My gallery is on External 32gb sd card.
2. Custom ringtone changes randomly then again (sometimes) its back to my preset default. (internal sd card)
I have custom folder named "my ringtones" in which mp3 files are there to set as my default ring tone & 2 of the groups use custom ring tone so I can identify which group is calling.
Now this folder is on internal SD card & its there for sure but the default ringtone set losses its setting & change to stock rom default ringtone & then I can even see my ringtone folder from settings/sound/phone ringtone & don't know how to set custom ringtone unless it shows.
Any way to force the media scanner, I don't know how it got disabled.
Seems new Version availabale 2.1.0.11095_121
Not tested yet...
Best Regards

[Q] The exact same OTA Updates constantly coming to my device?

I have literally said yes to updating every time it pops up. I know it's the same, because it's the same size every time (293.3 MB). Not to mention I've said "accept" every time, installed, reboots my device, then couple days later it tells me to do it again. Another thing to note are the same 3 systems apps asking to be updated (Voice Mate Speech Pack, Voice Mate, Voice Mate Engine).
Text from the update:
This update will ensure your device is working at optimal performance with the Sprint Network. The update will require that your phone is rebooted and it will not be available for emergency calls while installing the software.
My LG G3 is the Sprint variant (ls990), rooted via Stump Root and on the stock android. I have used G3 TweaksBox, as well as installed Xposed.
PM me for a link to the screenshots.
Anyone with an answer? Google only refers to Lollipop updates that are still not here anyways

You know OTA`s will only be installed when a device is unrooted and doesn`t have any system modifications. Either disable OTA notifications or flash a stock rom and have root removed or flash a custom recovery and rom.

[Fitwear] Alternative System for SW3

Hi all,
Today, I installed fitwear onto my SW3. For those of you who don't know, fitwear is an alternative system designed and made by a Chinese company called Lianluo, here is their website: http://fitwear.lianluo.com/ . In this version (Android v5.1.1) I found, it supports English, in addition, it supports OTA upgrade. However, this system seems to be free from google services.
This system does not require Android Wear APP.
OTA upgrade requires an Android Phone.
I have attached the files that I used. It contains: (I DID NOT made any of these tools, I only did translation.)
Driver: install the common fastboot driver in FlashTool first.
CMD easy Flash Tool: I translated it into English.
recovery: unknown purposes.
fitwear: v1.0, can be upgraded to v1.2 via OTA. (Build 20170118)
Android Wear (unknown version): I did not roll back to AW and I haven't check the version.
Orignial Chinese tutorial and flash_chs.bat: Read it if you can.
Installation Steps:
Install Flashtool driver from FLASHTOOL and the driver provided.
Extract the zip and run flash.bat (admin not needed).
Unlock your watch using the cmd if you haven't.
Flash Fitwear.
Reboot to fitwear.
Download the fitwear app onto your phone and connect to watch.
Link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9OX6FDB6BzZaUlaYjlhSUVEdTg/view?usp=sharing
Link for v1.2 (by hardy272): https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3t...ew?usp=sharing
Note: OTA upgrade needs the watch to be connected to some WIFI.
Disclaimer: By doing this you void your warrenty and I don't take any responsibility if your brick your device.
Do not distruibute!!! This is not thoroughly tested.
Reserved
I OTA upgraded to v1.2, nothing major changed, and I couldn't find a changelog. It seems that the watch would download something onto the phone to do the OTA upgrade, and I am wondering how to extract that out, or how to dump the entire system. Any help would be appreciated.
The battery seems to be nice, a lot of Chinese users reported very good battery usage. I guess that is due to the absence of Google Services.
I also noticed that OTA probably won't work with iOS.
Pictures:
Where did you find the rom for the SW3? On the downloads page of the website it allows me to download only the moto 360 one.

On the change log, it says on version v1.9, they added English support. That APP works the same way as the Android Wear APP. You still have to play music on your phone, and on the watch you can control it.

I can confirm that the OTA does not work with iOS.
When i connect the watch with my pc the install script wont recognize the watch, and if i look in the device manager the watch is named tetra and has a yellow triangle above its icon.
The weird thing is i can reboot the watch via adb, so atleast the adb drivers must be ok. The watch itself is already rooted and has twrp on it, but i unlocked and installed twrp with linux because there the watch is fully functional ind fastboot mode.
So has anyone a solution for this, beside of installing various adb drivers or something like that. (and yes i tried mostly of them with no happy end, and even the flashtool drivers didnt work)

You'll have to do this, to get Fastboot working:
Right-click the tetra item, and choose Update Driver.
Browse my computer for driver software.
Let me pick from a list of available driver on my computer.
Manufacturer: Google
Model: Bootloader
Next
Confirm
Profit?
Hopefully I didn't miss a step somewhere in there.
I just finished setting it up, and will report back my experience, after I get to play with it a little more.

Android Setup task

Since the update to 10.0.3.0 I've got a task named Android Setup in my tasklist. It seems to bundle some of the Google stuff, but I've never seen it before. My brother uses a Nokia 7 Plus with Pie and January patch aswell and he doesn't have this task. Could you please check inside developer settings / running services if you have it too?

Strange, on my side it even reappeared after flashing the full 10.0.3.0 firmware with data wipe.

Minor issues

Hi there. I'm new to Xiaomi/MIUI and would appreciate any help with the following issues.
Mi 10T – Global Stable 12.0.8 – stock launcher – MIUI optimization ON – de-bloated with ADB
I can't see how much storage space is being taken up by each installed app/package. They all show a "0" value.
I can't find Running Services under Developer Options.
I can't permanently disable usage access for System Launcher. It re-enables itself once I exit the settings menu.
App icons aren't updating. For example, Gmail, Maps, Photos and FB Messenger still display their old icons, despite me using the latest versions of those apps.
Google Play still displays the older menu style, despite me using the latest version of that app.
System Apps Updater doesn't detect OTA updates, despite several newer versions of MIUI 12 system apps existing on APK Mirror. This issue presented itself before I began de-bloating.
Updater doesn't detect OTA updates. I had to sideload 12.0.8 in order to update from the phone's original OS version (12.0.7). This issue presented itself before I began de-bloating.
Full disclosure: I'd rather not turn off MIUI optimization to see if that resolves any of these issues, as I'm not keen on resetting permissions (again).
Edit:
When I uninstall an app via the app drawer, a gap is left in its place. The icon of the uninstalled app is still there, it just turns invisible. I can uninstall it over and over, but it doesn't go away until I reboot the phone.
There doesn't appear to be a way to turn off the phone's equalizer. I can't use Blackplayer's equalizer until I do so. I don't know if the same applies to other music players.
Edit:
There doesn't appear to be a way to add emergency contacts or access them via the lockscreen emergency dialer. Emergency information (com.android.emergency) exists within the list of installed apps.
I'm on Global 12.0.7, unlocked, rooted and debloated. Stock recovery. What did you exactly do to update to 12.0.8? I do not want to wipe and I'm a little confused with the procedure...

I downloaded it from here, went to About Phone in Settings, clicked on the OS version number in the top left, clicked on the 3-dot menu in the top right and installed it via Mi File Manager.
AFAIK, you can only use Mi File Manager to install the update via this method. If you've disabled or uninstalled it, nothing will happen when you click that menu option – even if you've installed another file manager.
