Question about Arnova's Google Cam for OP5T and its fix - OnePlus 5T Questions & Answers

While looking for a nice Google Cam port for this handset, the XDA Portal Google Cam Hub mentioned Arnova's port. I've also seen that there is a fix for our device so that the port works properly, and that it needs root or TWRP to be installed. Without root and with the stock recovery, I proceeded to install the GCam port and used it for a couple of days, comparing its pics with others from the stock camera app. I have a couple of questions:
I've noticed no difference in quality. Do I need to adjust something in the settings of the ported APK other than to prevent the camera from taking purple photos? Maybe I'm doing something wrong and the quality could be better, maybe on the OP5T there isn't a big difference in camera quality between stock and GCam, and I just don't know it.
Is the fix needed if I'm just going to use the ported APK to take still pictures with the rear camera? I've read that the fix just deals with recording video and with the front camera.
Thank you beforehand. Probably there are details that I failed to read when I was searching for the port, but with this GCam thing being so decentralized it's a mess.

The image quality es better, less postprocessing and HDR+ it's just fantastic and GCam always perfect White Balance
I found that some versions of Arnova has that purple thing, just try diferents versions and stick to the best one (it depends if your ROM has the libs like Omnirom Treskmod)
Just try diferent Arnova versions : https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/

Camera Quality - CM14.1

Hi, I was lurking for a new camera app on xda to make up for the Huawei Camera software which provides a superb quality when taking photos, and I ended up encountering the Snapdragon Camera 2.2 for the Alcatel Idol 3.3.
Acording to the dev the camera apk should work on every ROM based on CM.
Since I'm on CM14.1 I gave it a shot and surprisingly it successfully installed and its working quite well.
The thing is, I can't decide which one is better, Snap Camera or Snapdragon Camera.
I was hoping if you guys could help me
(the first one I used stock snap camera which comes with CM14.1 and the second one I used Snapdragon Camera)
Note - the xda app might compress the photos a little bit, so expect some low quality between them.
Edit - link for the snapdragon camera : https://forum.xda-developers.com/idol-3/themes-apps/app-snapdragon-camera-v2-2-marshallow-t3402224
Here are some photos :
cool. maybe there's a way to extract he camera apk feom EMUI? its a really good app. and as a bit of advice, some links to the threads for snapdragon camera would be great . i'll test them too. the 2nd pic looks better imo, so i think snapdragon camera is better than the stock cm one. i'm using google camera (preinstalled with stock gapps) and i'll do some photos too when i get home
edit: the snapdragon camera is a bit better. not by much. the google camera app has a pinkish tint and is brighter, whilst the snapdragon camera has more natural colours but it is less bright, as seen in the OP.

It is possible to port the apk to CM or whatever ROM you're using, but without the drivers from huawei we can't get the maximum performance from the camera.
I also think that Snapdragon Camera looks a bit better, but Snap camera for me I think it's better to use on dark environments haha.
Edited the post with the link for the snapdragon camera.
Thanks.
I don't have any kind of experience regarding Android extraction of any kind, but if we took libs and camera apk and all the dependencies for it, make it a flashable zip with correct permissions straight to /system, would it work?
It's too bad that we have Nougat running great with mostly no issues (location via wifi is not working, but activating GPS will locate you in 2 seconds, some users also have the echo call bug), and the camera is not optimised properly. I'm pretty sure on stock ROM all other camera apps gave more or less the same performance as the stock one, so i doubt there is a lot to do with the app itself, more with the drivers and libraries (as you have pointed out).
Huawei stock cam app i think its pretty well
it would be great if it could be ported

Camera Resolution Problem

Hi,
i have a huge problem with my camera. When my Mi5s arrived before one year the cam worked perfectly and the pictures were really nice. But somewhen the quality of the images went really low, so i tried different camera apps and settings, tried multiple different roms (Miui Dev, Global, etc.) but nothing helped.
The images looking like if the resolution is really low and are unsharp, especially in low light situation. The weired thing is that in the preview of the camera app the images are much sharper and more brilliant as after the photo is taken.
I am for now on the pixel experience rom (clean flash with everything wiped) and tried the stock cam, the ported google cam and the ported miui cam, but the images are all the same.
I have now clue who it can be that the images are that bad after processing in every app
Does anybody have an idea why this happens and how to solve this? i didnt find anywhere similar problems with this phone/cam.
Thanks

Maybe you can try magisk module from tadi's libhack (this module is for oreo) And make sure your gcam setting set correctly.
Didnt help, but thank you!
It looks more like a too long shutter time if you ask me. Did you used the Mi5s specific port of GCam? Search here for "v2e", which will give you the latest one that worked great with my device: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/
For settings I use:
Model Pixel 2 XL (some users have better results with Nexus 6P)
Config HDR Pixel 2017 ZSL
HDR+ Very high
Final JPG Qual 100% (although 95% should also be enough)
And enabled increased detail of HDR+ on front camera
The author suggests these settings himself:

Is there a way to fix dark video on modded gcams for Oreo roms?

Hello, i've been using arnova's modded gcams for a while, and noticed that video recording is extremelly dark, and sometimes get black screen flashes on it, not even close to photo's quality.
The only camera that seems to be doing an extremelly good job with videos is the oneplus modded one, but it lacks a lot of features.
Actually the image quality of the modded Gcam is shocking when enabling hwhdr on debugging and setting hdr to high, video doesn't stand a chance. As it doesn't happen only on one app, I believe it is a system or a camera2api configuration that the oneplus camera and the default camera ignores (I am running Pixel Experience, feb latest build, but it's a thing on every Oreo's ROM).
Is there anyone that knows about the topic any way or idea to debug it -be it from the camera source files or from the c2a settings-? It would be insane to have also the video ia for stabilization of the Gcam and maybe it can compare or be better than the OnePlus Camera.
Open to suggestions !
They is another problem with the modded gcam, when we select 60fps option camcorder the screen flickers while focusing and thats been recorded
There's nothing to do to check flickering, dark video and fix colours on preview? images looking a bit color-dead before obturation on some cameras, seems that only aplications that overrides those settings are working good. (modded gcams are dark and flickers on video, apps like instagram that doesnt obture gets a bit of lack of colours since preview doesnt do a bit of hwhdr to have an more accurate end result to obturation and also nicer looks on instagram photos). Seems to be a problem with the phone configuration since the camera can record well on other devices, and the op camera can record well on ours. Not like there are no ways around now, we can use both cameras and take the images with stock camera before uploading them but in long term it would be a nice improvement on social networks direct uploading, easier to take videos and photos on a single application (also to have gcam benefits as it is video stabilization). Sorry if I didn't explain myself properly, im not so good at english. Also, I didnt develop directly for android/camera but if someone with a bit of idea gives me the hand I can check out the settings. I don't have so much free time to learn now but as a developer with a couple of tips on the topic maybe I can find a way around to check those settings. Or if an experienced developer with time and will to do it I can help out maybe. I believe it's worth to give it a look

Gcam Miui vs AOSP

Hi, my Redmi Note 5 is arriving and I want to know if I install Ressurrection Remix OS the Gcam app will have the same image quality as if I install it on Miui?
In my opinion it's even better, since you can adjust a lot in the modified versions of the gcam (look out of Arnova and saneklic.)
You can bump up the image quality by quite a bit (also in low light conditions, images can get better). Additionally you have some nice mods (like photosphere, different modis of panorama) which the others don't have. In my opinion the mi camera performs as good or worse than the gcam.
The portrait effect with the blured background can be achieved perfectly by 1 lens again, so no need to use the mi camera for that effect (since lineage snap & gcam use 1 lense only). So there is no need to use miui camera for that one.
Don't forget to activate camera2api (persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1) in the build.prop and you are good2go I hope it helped!
Edit: if you want to use the miui camera anyway, there is a thread where you can flash the .zip file and have it anyway!
I think he means that he would like to know if the gcam performs the same on Miui as on aosp Rom. In the end, is the gcam so good on Miui as the same gcam app on aosp?
Personally I think yes, because they both used camera2api, but I didn't test it.

Has anyone successfully installed the GCam port in here? https://www.cyanogenmods.org/galaxy-note-10-lite-google-camera-apk/ The stock camera is not so great.

This one installs and opens but the quality is bad, understandable since the port is too old.
The cyanogenmod website one doesn't open (crashes after the permissions). https://www.cyanogenmods.org/galaxy-note-10-lite-google-camera-apk/
Do you see the color bleed? All the purple flowers bled like this in my recent trip photos!
It works!

Yes, I am using it on my Note 10 Lite running on OneUI 2.0. It works, but I don't remember if it needs some change in settings to show the view finder properly.
I got significantly better images than the original camera using the Gcam port available on this website: https://koopahtmaniac.com/
However I couldn't get the front camera to work for photos, however it worked for videos.

It's just modern looking only the ui is updated, it's no better then gcam5 in terms of pic, idk about the video part, and video for front camera didn't work for me, front camera isn't being detected by the app?
And nightime is better on stock camera.
Samsung has the worst gcam

The issue of poor performance of GCam ports on Samsung devices is more related to the use of Exynos processors than the brand itself. I had a Galaxy S9 (snap 845) and the GCam performance available to it was excellent. However, the fact that Samsung keeps the device drivers closed is something that certainly gets in the way.
On Andorid 11, tried gcam it didn't even open and the stock camera stopped working too. Uninstalling the gcam got it to work after a reboot. It has a horrible camera, the reviews are either paid for or were made by fanboys. Any wayaround?
ZGcam somewhat works. Does anyone have a specific config for Note 10 Lite?
