Flip to shhh - Google Pixel 3 XL Questions & Answers

Does anyone have this working?
So if I search for 'flip' in settings, it shows me there should be a setting for it, however, if I tap to go to the setting nothing happens.
If I go to where the setting is supposed to be, it is not there.
Curious if anyone else is seeing this as well.

Actually just came back to post about that.
A little while ago, I did not have the setting in DW (when I posted). I dont know if using DW caused ti to update or maybe there was a server side switch, but for whatever reason the shortcut I had in the app drawer disappeared for DW.
Anyway I went back in to DW in settings, and the setting is there now. Also had to re-add the shortcut to app drawer.
Enabled, and working. Obviously still a work in progress as there apparently should be a setting for it in gestures (or maybe not and they didnt remove that).

[Q] Tasker - to detect app notification.

Is there a way to get Tasker to detect an app notification? For example, I want an action to apply when notification of a certain app shows up, I tried "Event- Notification" and select the app but Tasker does not seem to capture that event, any help would be grateful.

I know this question is kind of old, but I came across it when working on a related problem. I got Tasker to detect an app notification by using the Event-Notification. I had a little problem getting it to recognize the notification because I forgot that the text that I was matching in the notification had to be either a complete match or a pattern match. Once I added a couple of *s in the right places it worked great.
My related problem is how to get Tasker to detect a notification going away. I want to do a task when the notification is cleared and I haven't figured that out yet. If anyone can help with that I'd appreciate it.

Anybody figure the answer to this? I'd appreciate it!
*bump*
I also would like to check if a notification has gone. Did someone figure it out?

Google App locks location on.

So Google App is turning location on 24/7. If I go into app permissions and deny it, the icon in the status bar goes away instantly. And comes back instantly as soon as I allow it. I have good gps lock in other apps. I have cleared all data in it....no change.
Any one else, or any ideas what to do next?

Hello...
Not sure it will help... Has it something to do with "location history" ?
Google app trying to locate you all the time?
Try looking at Google app > settings > accounts & privacy > Google activity control > location history
Try turning it off and see if location enables itself yet?!
Good luck...
Hey,
Forgot to add my screenshot
Cheers...
That was a good idea, but alas no change.
Bump, I found something on this.
If I have location on high accuracy Google App gets a lock and the location icon in the status bar goes away. As soon as I switch location back to device only Google App locks the location icon back on.
I can repeat this every time.
Could a couple of people test this for me to confirm and let me know please?
Really XDA? No one has 30 seconds to switch Location to Device Only and tell me if it locks the location icon on?
Are you using the pixel launcher? If you are then try to deny location for it too.

I have the situation under control. I can deny Google and it's fine. Or I can set location to High Accuracy. Just trying to get confirmation it is a Google bug so I can report it.

Kill app when screen turned off

There is a setting I had found to kill an app when the screen was turned off and now I'm trying to go back to find that and I can't. Does anyone know where that setting resides?
I know in developers options, in app section there is a toggle that will kill app when you leave it. When screen turns off, I don't know that one.but will help look

This setting was to select individual apps that get killed. I've found it a couple times in a sub menu but I can never find it when I want it.
It's in the device maintenance>battery.
It's at the bottom.

Quick way turn on/off AOD?

I like AOD and i have it on as default. However, when I'm at work I don't need to have it on since I can see my notifications & calls from the computer (using Join extensions & app). I tried messing around with Tasker but unable to accomplish anything so far. Do you guys know any quick way to turn on/off AOD without having to go into the display settings?
Edit - Found an app that let me toggles AOD
App is called "Tiles". There's a tile in the app called "Always On", switch it on, then run this adb command to allow the app make secure setting changes: adb shell pm grant com/rascarlo.quick.settings.tiles android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
Link to app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rascarlo.quick.settings.tiles
One workaround. Pull town quick tiles, touch menu (gear to right of date), then in search box type "ambient", that will let you choose "Battery > Ambient Display". It takes long steps the first time. Next time just pull down tiles, touch gear, touch search bar, touch "ambient" (that stays in list), touch home button. It seems the 2XL keeps the last five searches.
There may be a better way, but I have not found it yet. Been trying to do it with Tasker and maybe a plugin, but nothing yet.

I have Tiles, granted permission through ADB, and the Ambient Display toggle does nothing.
Edit: It turns on and off the "New notification - wake screen when you receive notifications" setting. Not the Always On setting..
Edit 2: You need to use the Always On tile and not Ambient Display. Works well!

If you could, please provide a link to "Tiles". I tried searching for it in the Play Store and most of the hits are games.
I'm trying to find a solution to my phone screen turning off when it's plugged in and a call comes in. Maybe this is the fix I've been looking for.

Here you go: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rascarlo.quick.settings.tiles
You can also squeeze your phone/activate assistant and say "turn always on display off"
Tasker does work, try the "custom setting" option.

Question (bug?) Device control icon on lockscreen shown despite disabled

Settings > Display > Lock screen > Show device controls ... I disabled this, but the device control icon is still showing on the lock screen.
Is this a bug? Could someone please try as well? thanks.

OK ... well ... seems to be 'fixed' after a reboot ...
Hmm ... weird ... not fixed ... icon suddenly started re-appearing on lock screen despite 'device controls' being OFF.

I usually keep mine on, but I've just now disabled mine and I'll see if it pops back up. In my case, so far, a reboot wasn't necessary to make it go away.
Same here. Figure it'll get fixed and it's a silly oversight.
I even checked:
Code:
# settings get secure lockscreen_show_controls
0
So it's clearly 'off' ... still the icon for device control is sometimes appearing on my lock screen.
Silly bug ... I will report it to Google.
I've had it disabled since Friday and it hasn't reappeared on the lockscreen for me yet. You've probably already tried this, but maybe try enabling it, lock the screen, then disable it again?

I have exactly the same issue. Did a full reset without restoring backups. Worked for one day and now that button is back. Driving me nuts.

Yeah, and Play System is also up to date. Even tried 12L beta, same issue.
Deleting Play Services data and Google Home app didn't work either.
As soon as I set up any app for device controls from the quick settings tile (Google Home, Xiaomi, Tasker), that button shows up on the lockscreen (sometimes with a delay), regardless of the "show device control" setting under lockscreen settings.

After resetting Play Services again, I just found the culprit: Smart Lock. If you enable Smart Lock for home and you're on that location, the button is shown. Not sure if that's intended behaviour.
