Was the first thing I dled. Works great. When you get immersive mode going it's pretty much perfect at that point.

Works well on Pixel 3XL, but when an app uses immersive mode (full screen), I would like to have an option to automatically "show the notch" again.
For example, if I am using an app that in immersive mode is showing things in the notch area (left and right), then with Natcho Notch enabled it is all black instead.
Any chance to have this option?

Is there a way to hide the notch notification?

Turn off the notifications for the app

Only reason I don't use it is that the nav buttons become nearly invisible on a white nav bar. The app has an option to always make the nav bar black, but the fact that it also does this on the launcher makes it a no-go.

Much better, thanks for sharing this.

I was using Nacho Notch and after a few hours it stopped working. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, clearing data, cache, you name it. I've since started using Status Bar & Notch Customizer and haven't had a problem.

I think I know what I'm going to get by asking but I'm being sincere.
What do people hate so much about getting extra room? Putting this side by side with my 2xl and it's obvious there's just more room for activities. I don't see any way turning off that part of the display has an advantage. If I imagine drawing the notch into my 2xl, that space is actually already empty anyway.
Devices with secondary displays for notifications or things like eink on the back never really took off, but they never got this kind of hate either.
I keep thinking I must be missing something obvious.

I think it's just that the pixel's notch is bigger than it should be. I'm not a fan of notches in general, so I was more annoyed by the notch then the size of the notch, however after using it, I'm pretty indifferent in general to it. I did try nocho notch but it was a bit buggy like when you'd switch to landscape or immersive mode. Hiding notifications also doesn't help, it seemed to make the bugginess worse, so I gave up. I do agree the notch idea isn't bad, overall... they just should have done it like the nocho notch app does it but made it built into the OS (different then the developer mode which really is a waste of space) so it would work better.
I'm actually more annoyed by the proprietary wireless charging with the fake 'rapidly charging' then this whole notch thing.

However on release day, I pre-ordered, because I'm a gadget whore, and can't stand to be without the latest and greatest. After using for 2 and a half weeks now, I can say it doesn't bother me at all now. I tried using notcho notch, and I hated it. To me it looks worse than the notch. I also just tried turning it off in developer options, and I think that works better IMO, but then I got to worrying about burn in, so I went back to normal, and now I'm just used to it. It's not really that bad, and with all the other great things this device does, I've easily forgotten about it.

If someone wants to try this they are welcome. It will give you a black statusbar but it is for people that also use a third party navbar like LMT as this also removes the navbar (it becomes black as well so needs to be remove). The statusbar will be black on home screen as well.
This is an ADB Installer for Windows. Unzip on pc, attach phone to PC, run install.bat, give ADB root rights.

Pixel 3 XL could fit two rows of icons in that notch, right? Would be great to have a large digital clock on the right and all other notification icons on the left.
Is this something Nacho Notch can do?

It's just a different app to hide the notch but with more options.

Life with a notch
Coming from original pixel xl, This is my second day using the 3Xl abviously first time using a phone with the notch.
At first it's hard to get used to it, tried every possible solution to get rid of it but nothing gave a satisfactory result. I think unless Google release some solution, we are pretty much forced to use the notch.
This is my second day, I can say I'm already getting used to it. I think the initial 2days (depends on how OCD you are) may be hard to ignore the notch. Now it's grow on me and "looks just fine"
Anyway:
The problem using " nacho notch" is that (not the app, it the way android works)
1. It don't work on lockscreen or apps like YouTube
2. Makes the navbar white and hard to see (tried other navbar solutions but it's not as good as stock)
3. Might help screen burn on top
Thanks for reading

If you edit the build.prop to disable the navigation bar instead of an app the volume rocker is fine in landscape mode.
Add this line to the bottom of the build prop and no more navigation bar and the volume rocker is good to go.
qemu.hw.mainkeys = 1
I'm using this, OnePlus gestures, and Nacho Notch and the phone is so much better.

Disable Notch?

Just curious if any of you think they will allow us to black out the status bar next to the notch to make it "go" away. Hopefully this will be an option within the software.

pretty sure someone will make an app for that sooner or later.
Probably but then you have a device with 2013 sized top and bottom bezels.
The design is a total joke, google should be embarrassed to release this monstrosity in 2018

I agree. It's a joke and the design team should in fact all be fired. Whoever approved this version has no idea how to sell phones. This is why they don't.
Having said that, I still bought the XL [emoji53]

That option to hide notch is already available in developer Settings. There are some screenshot on reddit
So you hide the notch which increases the bezel look. What actual screesize do you end up with...
So yeah, they apparently are going to put the option in but instead of leaving the notification icons there they are just shrinking the entire screen:

The developer options method has different options for disabling the notch. Apparently one of the settings allows you to do this: https://i.imgur.com/OKnedgo.jpg and https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/9mwfoh/via_mkbhd_vid_what_pixel_3_xl_looks_like_with/
So my guess is that once it's officially implemented, it'll look like what you see above

It's already built into P in developer options.
If they made it so you could half hide the notch (like, so the notch is halfway not showing, instead of fully hidden), I think I'd be using that for sure. I think the phone would look WAY better with half that notch. If that's not an option, I really hope some devs will make it so.

The developer option is (hopefully) not the full implementation. The developer option just blacks out the notch.
This is the current implementation using the developer options:

Its more like that the rest of the screen would have "burn in" effect and not the notch. But that shouldnt be noticeable because the display does not show static pictures/elements like the status bar (clock, icons, ...).
Why would you risk a problem with screen burnin anymore than any other phone, just because you've hidden a notch?
The feature in developer settings is most likely not done. Because, no, Google aren't "that clueless". People love to hate on everything they can, while ignoring absolutely everything that Google designs which has a brilliant design. Stop cherry picking the things that you hate, and look at the big picture. Google does know design. When this feature is pushed out of developer settings (which is NOT to be viewed as "made available to public; most people don't even know this exists. XDA and Reddit are absolutely not the norm), I would expect the clock and icons to be on top of the hidden notch, not below it.

Not every app supports the full screen but you can try to force the app to by going to - setting, display, full screen apps and in this option find the app you want to force and change it from auto to full screen. You may also need to make sure this particular app is running in full screen as well.

Can not fullscreen over the camera hole. (status bar turn to black or no change)
The use of the entire screen is app dependant, this is due to the screen aspect, or ratio, samsung has no control over this
It can't be done. It'll always have some sort of blank space .
the screen can be used entirely, nova launcher can use all the screen area when in home screen, PUBG uses all, Netflix can use all the screen, youtube also, there are some floating type apps that also can be put anywhere, including the top most part of the screen, these examples demonstrate that the apps must be coded to make use of the totality of the screen
When watching YouTube I can use the whole screen in the display settings for full screen apps I have YouTube set to fullscreen and when I start watching a video I use zoom fill
Videos and games are given. It would be pointless to go edge to edge if that wasn't happening natively.
I personally would like to see full edge to edge in all apps. That was the whole point of full immersive mode on other models, get rid of the status bar and give the content area full access to the entire screen.
Even when forced, it's not possible. Black bar shows up in portrait mode. Unless there's a fully custom rom built from raw Android only, it's not going to work.
Hello everyone! Has anyone managed to defeat this injustice? Indeed, for example, the game somehow knows that there is a hole on the screen, and it can be fooled. I did not change Note 9 to Note 10+ to use the same screen as Note 9
Again, the app must be coded in a way to permit zooming if not designed to acomodate the aspect ratio of the screen you are using it in
It's possible look at the video.

I dont know if that is the case when immersive mode worked fine on other devices. You didn't have to zoom anything. Just swipe down from the top to restore the status bar.
The app doesn't have to zoom anymore than it has to pitch when turning on the function to hide the camera (which creates a black bar in the UI )

Adds a configurable Energy Notch around the camera notch indicating current Battery level. Dive into the various configuration options, not only you can quickly glance and get the battery info but, Energy Notch adds an accent to your phone's camera notch.
Got a full charge? The Notch will be wrapping the entire curve of your notch like an arc.
Battery depleting? So will the arc of Energy Notch.
Out of the box features:-
✓ Energy Notch can be configured from a width of 1 pixel to a donut thick ring
✓ Energy Notch puts almost 0% load on CPU, as it wakes up only to reflect any change in battery level
✓ Energy Notch direction can be configured as left/center/right
✓ Energy Notch can hide on fullscreen content (apps, videos, images, games etc)
✓ Energy Notch can be configured to change colors automatically depending on the live battery level
✓ Energy Notch could have a mono color/multiple color segments/gradient (pro)
✓ You can literally assign any color in the world for your favorite configuration
✓ Energy Notch has a number of cool animations whenever a power source is plugged into your device
All that is cool! But what about Energy Notch consuming Battery?!
This is one of the most exciting question for me to answer. Energy Notch more than anything understands that you need to utilize your battery efficiently (after all, that's why you installed the App, right? .) Energy Notch sits on the screen silently putting almost 0% load on CPU, if battery level changes, Android wakes up Energy Notch. Once awake, Energy Notch quickly updates itself and goes back to sleep. And to be that extra efficient, the Notch goes on deep sleep when you turn off the screen, meaning it doesn't even read changes in battery level when the screen is off.
Accessibility Service Requirement:
Android requires Energy Notch to run as an Accessibility Service, to be able to display on Lock Screen. It does not read/monitor any data, whatsoever. This is especially useful for people who have disability to read numbers and work better with visual data.

Just WOWWWW

Very good job. Regards
Great app, I like it very much, congratulations @jagan2
I'd like to report a little bug I've found.
In my OnePlus 7T (Android 10) the "Gradient" option in Color Configuration is not working properly. After a full charge, the bar colours gets reversed: if I set the colours green (to the left) and red (to the right), it shows a green-to-red bar (from left to right), instead the proper red-to-green bar, regardless of the option chosen in Notch Direction, "Left" or "Right" ("Center" option seems to be working properly with this). And for example, if I try "Merged Segments", it works properly, showing a red-green bar (from left to right), and if I change the Notch Direction to "Right", it shows a green-red bar, that is ok. So the problem seems to be only in the Gradient option. Nevertheless, after a while, the bar gets in the righ direction again, and the problem is solved by itself (don't know how or why).
Maybe you can check it to find the problem and fix it in a future update.
Thank you again
EDIT: I think I've found the reason: the colour bar is inverted (using the "Gradient" option) only when the battery is 100%. When it decreases to 99% and below, the colour bar is ok. I dit the following test: I fully charged my OnePlus 7T and at 100% the colour bar was inverted; I started to use the phone, and after a few minutes, just when the battery level dropped from 100% to 99%, the colour bar got OK again. So it seems to be a problem with the "Gradient" option at the 100% level of battery, cause it shows inverted colours in the bar; but below 100%, the bar is OK and shows the colours properly. This issue at 100% battery level is not present when using "Merged Segments".

Looks amazing! Using it as we speak. The only thing I dont like and is a bit counterintuitive is the customization of the segments. Adding and removing is not logical and changing the color all the time doesnt really feel great. Maybe a simpler system?

Question A12: Quick Settings turn off

Surely I can't be the only one that finds the larger quick settings tiles in Android 12 cumbersome to use quickly -- seems like I'm always having to swipe down a 2nd time to get access to the 3rd or greater QS tile in the the extended notification shade.
So is there a way someone here has used to get back to the pre-Android 12 quick settings tiles, a Magisk module perhaps?
Heck, I'd settle for a way to turn off (completely eliminate) native A12 quick settings tiles altogether as there's apps (like Notification Toggle) that can reproduce an old-style QS shade.
Any thoughts would be welcome...

One option could be to use Mi Control Center
This way you can make some configurations to the quick settings, which may not be to your likening but in ways can be made to reflect A11....
Give it a try!
I also have previously used and optionally paid for Bottom Quick Settings - Notification Customization and is one way to get WiFi/Mobile data QS of sorts back, but I think ultimately I couldn't get used to swiping up for QS, but it did work very well. Was a one-time fee, though; didn't have a yearly subscription like Mi Control Center. No offense, I just avoid apps I have to subscribe to.

Thanks for the referral -- I installed Mi Control Center and subscribed to allow full access. While it comes darn close to what I want, I ultimately unistalled it because:
- even with root access, swiping up to get rid of the shade fully requires 2 swipes up (remember, one of my main objections was to avoid 2 swipes down)
- I also avoid subscription model software
But I do appreciate your suggestion

- I also avoid subscription model software
But I do appreciate your suggestion

That's fair! I haven't ended up using it myself either and will see if perhaps another alternative presents itself at some point
@Tulsadiver has a magisk mod that has 4x4 qs tiles. It's in the mods section of the 6 pro forum, look through the standalone mods post of his. It's on page 2 or 4. He is pretty cool so just ask him if you can't find it. I'll try and link it later but just wanted to post real quick to let you guys know.

My Bottom Quick Settings (tiles and notifications enabled) - very customizable and can still use third-party tools. This way I also disable almost all normal (top) Quick Settings, and when I'm on the home screen (you can see at the top of this screenshot), I use Nova Launcher's option to not display the status bar (I have Bottom Quick Settings enable a bottom status bar - which I admittedly wish I could customize, but still worth it to me).
FYI, I don't use Bottom Quick Settings' brightness slider, and still have to use the normal one because in BQS, manually adjusting turns off the adaptive brightness, whereas the normal brightness slider does not. I could probably just put a shortcut to the system Display/brightness settings, however, and use that instead - and might still be quicker than the normal top brightness slider that isn't available until you swipe twice/all the way down.

Hi. Any ideas what to do to have 6 shortcuts instead of two in the top notification panel / notification bar / quick shortcuts?

You have some choices if you're rooted. You can do 3 shortcuts (and many other things) with [MOD][Xposed+Magisk] AOSP Mods - System modifications for AOSP-based Android 12+, or (and it might conflict with the previous, but it might not) you can do all sorts of things including 6 (unlabeled) quick settings across with Project Themer · Android 12⁺.
Thanks @roirraW "edor" ehT
I would prefer to avoid voiding warranty for now, so I don't have a root. I tried "Material Notification Shade" app and it works, however there is too much ads so that's not an acceptable solution. I was thinking that perhaps there is some other app - like the mentioned before but with no ads.

I'm pretty sure that rooting will not void your warranty. You can ask Google itself like a few people who have screencapped their chat, or the members here who have successfully rma'd their rooted Pixels. Or you can choose to ignore all that, stay on the safe side, and live without THIS:
(Renovate magisk module....) heh heh, tempting?
@reaper000 in fact I have Asus Zenfone 8. But the problem is the same. (Almost) stock Android without nice add on like One UI from Samsung.

Question Possible gestures on homescreen?

Many of us need to make use of the taskbar functionality and hence, are forced to make the switch to one UI home from our favorite launchers.
I am looking to add some homescreen gestures to quickly access apps for eg. Double tap to email, swipe up to google keep etc.
Anyone knows how closest we can get to having these gesture shortcuts using one ui?
Not a simple way unfortunately. Miss the Nova shortcuts I used to use. But the task bar is kinda worth it for me at least at the moment.
Yeah. Totally. Taskbar is almost indispensable.
I wonder why samsung didn't add native gestures to the home ui.
Check out the other thread where there's a solution identified to having both the Taskbar + Nova. I'm still sticking with One UI (for now!) because I don't want to lose the real estate of the nav keys on the home screen, Nova always refreshes/lags when you open the inner diplay, and Nova doesn't use the inner display efficiently if you want to have it mirrored on the outer display and look reasonable.
The one thing I'm missing with One UI is the gestures, for me it's more about replicating a gesture to call on Sesame Search or Finder search with two-finger swipe down, which is muscle memory for me. I have the Sesame widget on my home screen but if I'm not on the first page, then I have to go home and then click the widget - meh.
Otherwise I'm totally OK with One UI, I've managed to have custom icons the way I like and the variable grid sizes, while not ideal, are sufficient, all without the current Nova downsides on the F4.
The nova + taskbar option you mentioned is not exactly the full taskbar experience.
For gestures, use one hand operation app and have side swipes anywhere on the device.
The muscle memory thing, yeah! That's difficult to argue against.

Yeah it's like using Windows since 95 and using 8 for the first time with Metro!
Ok, that's a bit extreme but you get the idea!

I meant the two-finger swipe down gesture, which you cannot set with One-Handed Operation+

I've set it up with sesame on the rightmost on cover, and therefore center of inside screen/taskbsr

Seems to work well for me at the moment.

Fair enough, works for me, after all can get to pretty much everything using sesame, but understand why. If you drag the sesame icon to a screen side and search for app/whatnot and press enter the action opens in that screen space as well.

It's just about clicks. I don't want to search for Phone, Spotify, Outlook, Signal or Camera 1000x a day , but you make a valid point too!
I've been searching high and low in the Play Store for a broad gesture app, but zero luck so far.
Camera = dbl power, can't remember the last time didn't launch cam that way. So suppose that's the one I'm using

I don't take that many pictures, i guess it's just always there (in the dock) if the phone is on so don't need to even think about it. Going to give it a try though, probably easier to get used to having sesame always in the dock and reminding myself to double-press the power button for a pic, than the alternative of tracking down sesame to find an app 100x a day!
