Disable Gesture and Enable Old Navigation Buttons - Google Pixel 3 XL Questions & Answers

This isn't my work or thread but I didn't see this posted in the 3xl forum so I'm posting the link here.
https://www.xda-developers.com/disable-android-pie-gestures-google-pixel-3/
I just realized that I posted this in the wrong section. Mods feel free to move this to the appropriate section.

Now that we have root. I just froze pixel launcher with titanium backup and restarted and now I have the old layout.

Power control widget vanished?

My power control widget vanished and I its not in the widget drawer on any launcher. What happened?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Its been renamed to Power Toggles, the rename is probably why it disappeared.
It's literally gone. I had it on one of my home screens on apex launcher and now it's no where to be found, renamed or not

Yeah you will have to re-download it, think that's what I had to do - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.painless.pc
The app description says "Note: with the latest update all existing application shortcuts will go away, please add them again" so this would explain it.

Ah we're talking about different things. I was referring to the default android one that's built into android. I might try this though. Just seems weird a default android widget just vanished

Seems to be something to do with Apex, see here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1827401
I was able to get the widget back after doing a factory reset.

Interesting, that makes sense then because I put the beta on and uninstalled it and put the market version back on and that's when I noticed it was missing.

3rf Party Launchers

Just wondering if anyone has tried using Nova, Action, Apex or any other 3rd party launcher and what your results have been.
I'm particularly interested in knowing which, if any, Pixel Launcher features are lost if using Nova (for example), and the workarounds to gain back those features.
Thanks!

I use nova launcher. The new Beta enables the icon shortcut and swipe up to get to your applications.
I use beta for nova as well and no problems to report. It features every feature I need from pixel with great customization.
Nova beta here too... Even has the same weather widget as the pixel launcher

Try LGs UX 5 its very nice
I know Nova launcher doesn't have swipe left for Google Now. Most people don't care, but I actually like it

used nova and action. action better in my opinion right now. pixel experience with all the customization. nova missing left swipe gesture which is good to set to get to google now. Once we have root and can place action in system app, will have better google experience.

Thanks. That adds the temp into the search bar. I misunderstood. Thought it put the pixel weather widget on the home screen.

Yeah, you can make the search bar look like the pixel launcher. Correct. I shouldn't have said widget... Sorry

I have been using the stock pixel launcher but after rooting I decided to go back to nova beta. The latest update was from October 27th. I set up everything yesterday with nova but experienced very high battery drain. I was also using teslaunread with nova which I never used before. Does teslaunread cause severe battery drain or could have it been nova beta? Was wondering if anyone else experienced quick battery drain and/or wakelock that wouldn't let the phone sleep. I have switched back to stock pixel launcher for the time being.
I believe the swipe left for Google now is an API restriction from Google. Not that the feature want included.

Pixel Launcher Customization? Any options?

Hi guys,
I'm relatively new to Android and had a few questions regarding customization.
I'm mostly happy with the Pixel Launcher, but I absolutely hate the white haze at the bottom search pill, it ruins my wallpapers.
I would also like the background of the app drawer (when you swipe up from the bottom to see all the apps) to be dark and translucent, so you can see the wallpaper still.
Can i do this anyway? I don't mind using another launcher if I can get it looking just like the Pixel one with those tweaks.
If it matters, I can't root as I have a Verizon Panda.

This video has 1 hell of a launcher mod in the description, best one I've seen. It has a modded customization feature added to it

Yup, too bad that launcher mod doesn't install. Funny how it's called "rootless" when you need to be rooted to replace your stock Pixel launcher in the system app folder.

Lol it's actually intended for other phones other than the pixel, it'll install on other phones without being rooted. But the pixel has to be rooted in order to use this launcher

Exactly, which makes it irrelevant to this thread since OP is looking for an option that doesn't involve root.

Brilliant retort, I wasn't saying it's a bad mod, it looks great, but, it doesn't help OP.
I wasn't being rude, the face was me realising my error of not reading the entire OP

Fair enough, no harm no foul. I hope Google adds some of those features into the legit Pixel Launcher.

Xl foggy cloudy screen near the bottom search bar

Why are some bright wallpapers foggy and cloudy near the search bar at the bottom, it looks washed out and horrible, is this because of Google's launcher?

Yeah, just use a different launcher like Nova. That issue is annoying. If you want like the at a glance widget, just use the Chronus app or Another Widget app
Cheers, just seems a bit weird Google would leave it like that in their own launcher.
Yup, with Nova you can make it look exactly like the Pixel Launcher, here's what mine looks like.

Sure! Not sure how well it will restore for you though, I usually have to re set up "Another Widget" to look like at a glance. If you need help just let me know I'll help you get it looking like you want. Here you go: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1odB-3Sle4zWiabrS-3HBlCWtXo99BSXJ/view?usp=drivesdk
oh.. thank lord for this thread... I was getting upset that I am on receiving end of a new screen issue. Thanks guys.. diff launcher or black wallpapers.. Thanks a lot for bringing my spirit back up.

It's called "Another Widget"
BTW there was a bug with that but if you do change wallpapers a couple times itll work fine. I personally dont like nova because it looks different than pixel. the icons look weird or small or something
I was able to match the look of my pixel launcher with action launcher actually. It has a built-in at a glance widget and if you scale the icons to about 85 percent on action it matches it nearly exact.

Locking widget's position

So I just got a pixel 2 xl and I've been customizing my home screen to my liking. I'm added a widget to my home screen, but every time I touch it to refresh it, it wants to move it or change it's size. Anyone know how to fix this?
You should you're not long pressing the widget?

Absolutely sure, just the quickest tap will act as a long press and make it want to change its position or resize it.
What widget are you using? Pixel Launcher right?

Yes, just stock Pixel launcher. I'm trying to use my bank widget just to see/update my current balance.
It's probably that app widget in particular. I just added a wdiget with a refresh button and it worked just fine. You have another widget to add and test? If so and it works fine, contact the app developer for your bank app.

it seems like its only a couple widgets that do the same.
Try them with Nova launcher...
You might want to change your "Touch & hold delay" setting. You can find this in the Accessibility section in Settings. It has 3 options; short, medium, long. Maybe changing yours to long may help....
Hope this helps...
