Screening call question - Google Pixel 3 XL Questions & Answers

So Ive really been liking this call screening application the 3 has now. Ive been using it a lot to get rid of spam calls. However, it states that Ill get a copy of the conversation. I had a legitimate phone call the other day that I screened and I needed the phone number someone left on that call screen and I have no clue where to find the conversation.

There is no history, it only transcribes in real-time while you are screening the call, once connected it is no longer in effect.

Thats weird. If you watch it while its transcribing on the screen, it literally says its sending a copy to the phone owner.

Right, the conversation being between the google assistant, and the caller (which you get a copy of in real-time).
Not the conversation between you and the caller once you connect.

Info to keep in mind
Your phone doesn’t currently store the transcripts of the call, but in the future, you may see your transcripts in your call history.

That guide says it's only available in the US right now. Do all US users have it now or is it only in "select markets"? I've heard some reviewers mention it's being rolled out to more cities over the next month, but wasn't sure if that meant more US cities or worldwide.

I think that refers to Duplex, like where the Assistant will make dinner reservations for you by placing the call.
Im pretty sure the call screening is for everyone right now in US.

The transcripts will show up under call details. I played around with call screen and was getting transcripts on my P2XL using THIS method. Now that I have the P3XL I can no longer get them. Now I'm wondering if one of the 3 flags (non-locale) I set in the dialer_phenotype_flags.xml file enabled the transcripts. It's easy to do, so when I get home tonight I'll give it a shot. BTW... that xml is an interesting file! @uicnren

Blocking calls

With Sense, there was an option in Contacts to send that certain contact straight to voicemail. Is there not such an option with touchwiz?

I thought I was just being stupid and couldn't find it. It wasn't a Sense feature... its a feature of Android itself that for some reason Samsung removed.
I guess this is another reason I'll be hoping for a pure Android ROM...
Yeah, I'm not sure why on earth they would remove that...
launcher pro will let you access that hidden menu i used it on my epic 4g and now on the epic touch.
Google voice will let you do that, and Sprint let's you use your existing number with it. Not a perfect solution, but at least it's a free workaround for this problem, and GV has a lot of other really nice features, so no reason not to use it - takes about 5 minutes to setup.

I was the biggest advocate for GV..WAS! After all kinds of issues with calls not going through and constant text send/receive issues I disabled GV and ALL of my problems went away. My friend was telling me to disable it because he had sprint too and was having none of my issues. I fought him for like a month. When I finally got rid of GV and my stuff started working again I had to eat crow and tell him he was correct.
It was amazing when it worked, but it gave me far too many problems to rely on as my primary form of communication.

+1000000 on this ive had my phone for about 2 weeks the first few days it was fine then i enabled gv and then my calls just kept ringing meanwhile the other end people could hear me and my background noise while it was still ringing on my end
and also 50% of the time my calls wouldnt start ringing at all i would have to hang up and recall a few times to get them to connect, finally i went to google voice website and unchecked all of the boxes next to my mobile number on there and my calls started using my stock number again (not the gv one) and i havent had one single problem connecting or not receiving calls since

Calls from wife go straight to voicemail

It seems like I'm getting calls from everyone except from my wife.
I am on a rooted/CM7.1.0/Droid Incredible and she is on a stock Incredible. We are both on the same Verizon plan.
When she calls, it rings 3 times for her and then to Voice mail. It never rings on my phone. I have checked
I have and use Google voice for voice mail but she is calling my Verizon number.
The "Send calls directly to voicemail" box wasn't checked. I have deleted her contact in my phone and my contact in her phone and it still goes straight to voice mail. I can call her and other people can call me.
Any ideas?

Dude, you would get so much money on ebay for that phone.
The only thing i could think of is mabey google voice thinks your wifes number is spam. If you go to google.com/voice and hit the gear icon on the top right, select settings and then the calls tab. Uncheck global spam filtering save the change and then see if that works.

Update:
Formatted everything and "upgraded" to Pons CM7.2 Incredible builds (12192011).
All is working great.
Ha ha, you probably got hacked... Lol
Edit:
To clarify things, guys, he stated that he 'only uses google voice for voicemail'...
This means she is calling his Verizon phone number first... Which, he has something called 'conditional call forwarding' setup... So, even if google voice were set to block her, as spam, it would still have to dial his handset first... And actually ring(or be ignored).
To my knowledge, i haven't seen a way inside of Android to block callers...
Which is why i jokingly say, you got haxxed...
I bet if you flashed a clean install of cm7 again, it would work fine
If you long press the end call button while in a call, you are given the option to put that number on a black list. You could have done that without realizing

[Q] Google Voice and call log?

Both my T989 (Galaxy II) and T999 (Galaxy III) are setup to use google voice for all calls.
On my T989 the call logs showed the numbers of the contacts I dialed in the call log and I believe when I was dialing out.
On the T999 the call logs show the google voice number that bridges the call, not the callers phone number and shows the same when dialing out.
I can't seem to figure out how to fix this so the contact's name/number is shown in the call logs rather than the number the phone dialed to connect the call.
Anyone had and fixed this issue?
Thanks!
I'm experiencing the same issue with outbound google voice calls and the stock dialer logs.
Thanks. It's nice to know I'm not the only one having this problem.
by any chance is this working as expected for anyone? hard to believe no one else has noticed and commented.
seeing the random outbound number in the dialer's call log is frustrating.
Same issue here on my AT&T Samsung Galaxy S III
Same here.
having the same problem as well on my SGS 3... works as expected on my HTC 1XL. seems you can redial the number you intended to dial from the call log.

same problems on my I747 (AT&T S3). Very annoying.
Ditto. Very frustrating. It seems to my limited brain that it might be the phone apk taking it's data from a network source rather than the phone's dialer. I'm contemplating trying a different model's phone.apk, but I really need my phone to work, and I haven't flashed a ROM yet on this one.
No more comments since, have you guys figured out how to fix this. If yes, kindly post the solution.
This is ridiculous, I am seriously considering taking this (otherwise a fine) phone back to store.
This bug is a deal breaker for me. Good phone/hardware/software design should follow standards.

Seriously, this is absolutely a huge annoyance. Completely a deal breaker. I am going to take this phone back if this can't be fixed.
I refuse to deal with this. I need GV to work as intended. I need to have this ANDROID phone behave like an android phone. If I wanted a phone controlled by the manufacturer, I would buy the crap iPhone.
Really, either Samsung fixes this issue within this week, or this phone is going back.

Can you explain the problem better. I think my iPad shows the random google number too. If that's what you're talking about.
When your phone is set to use GV when dialing then GV does use some (random?) number (say you dial 202-123-1234 GV might show dialing 617-444-3333) but then in the Log you would see the number you dialed (202-123-1234) not the num that GV used (617-444-3333). This is how it works in other phones that I have used. Bug is with the Galaxy S3 that show the GV number in the log. If you click on the GV num that appears in the log you will be connected correctly, but it's beyond annoying to not be able to see/find numbers/people (people cause the contacts are associated with the real number, not the one that GV uses).
I'm getting there, I think lol.
Are you dialing out using the phone app? Or gv app? Can you make the call/see it correctly if you dial out through the web browser?
And what you're saying is that the call log shows the google service number not what was dialed.
In my stock phone app my call log shows the number of a person who called my gv number and was forwarded to me. Do incomming calls display correctly?
I am dialing out using the Phone app.
When you say the "call see it" I figure you mean the Log. I don't know how to dial using Voice (GV on the phone) as I don't see a dial pad there as I do on my desktop computer.
>>And what you're saying is that the call log shows the google service number not what was dialed.
EXACTLY
Install google chrome and navigate to the voice site. I don't really use gv anymore but it could interest you. I found using it through the web always gave a better experience because it's more robust.
In the phone app is it just outgoing that's messed up or incoming too? I didn't even know the stock dialer could be used for gv
going to the website, and using the call back, it works fine - but that defeats the whole beauty of being able to use the phone dialer and transparently it uses GV (this might be new to Android v 4). The setting for this is in Voice (android app for GV) under settings, Making calls. For me the reason I want to use GV for all outgoing calls is so that ppl know me by the GV number since my SIM changes often and if they get the SIM number they tend to save it, later trying to reach me at this number and finding it's no longer in use....

this is an issue with the Touch Wiz ROM and Google Voice.. if i use a stock TouchWiz ROM and GV, and call a contact, then the service number is in the call log. when i use the CM10 ROM and, i call a contact, the call log lists contact phone number. either way, i'm disappointed that Samsung and/or Google haven't addressed this issue. t

Question OP 9pro on Verizon - caller ID

My caller ID is not working for any calls not on my contact list. This was not the case on the Pixel 3XL I came from. I have added a secondary caller ID app called Hiya which shows me there IS caller information coming across, but the Google dialer is only showing a phone number.
Anyone else with this? Is it normal on OP? Is there a fix?

You can.
Guess I should have mentioned I have the settings turned on.
I've reset connections, reset network settings, even wiped the phone a few times installing with zero backups. Hasn't changed anything.
While I'm moderately happy with the phone, this is still an issue.
Anyone have suggestions?
You need to call Verizon and tell them your issue.. they need to fix it on their end
I have a pretty hard time believing this is on the Verizon end when different apps will get the information.
The caller information is making it TO the phone, as evident in different apps, but the Google dialer is not broadcasting the info.
After spending countless hours with Verizon just to get this phone working on their network, I probably shouldn't doubt you. It's just a rabbit hole I don't think I can go down...trying to get to a customer support reps who actually knows how to fix things and not read candid answers off a checklist in front of them is pretty rough.

For me, yes, as well as "Hold for Me".
I wish you could change the message is plays. I have paranoid friends who'll hear the phrase, "a transcript of this call", and hang up thinking the entire call will be recorded/transcribed. Then again, the reason I'd need to screen them is because they all have their caller ID blocked. Lol!
Yeah it wasn't showing for me at first but I went in and did a force stop on the dialer app and then cleared cache. It was showing after that.

I use Signal as well, but, can't get everyone else to use it. I like it for lots of other reasons though. Namely, how it handles media/ photos. Your friends are wise to be paranoid. Carriers in the US have been caught recently censoring text messages with links to articles "they" don't think anyone needs to see. Will phone conversations be next? Find that article at: https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/20...ages-excuse-censor-gateway-pundit-links-text/
yeah I have also seen it on Jan update although haven't used it on this update yet
