I am not the developer, Couldn't able to answer it in the technically way,
but for me, this is the updating from 4 to 8, from Nouga 7.0 to Oreo 8.0,
For me it does perform faster, UI looks cleaner.

You can update to Oreo without changing the bootloader version. Oreo has been out for a while and most carriers, except Sprint, upgraded to it while still using b4.
The bootloader is basically a security measure to prevent unauthorized use of the phone like modding or changing roms. B8 isn't rootable, so if that matters to you, don't update. For Sprint users on b5,6,7 this allows the Unlocked firmware to be installed again.
Most people will just see it as another update, but most of the XDA community see it as a gift for updated Sprint phones or avoid like the plague for others because of root and flexibility.

Has anyone been able to root this thing? Their old zip doesn't work on this one.
can't have root permanent... everytime i need root i must start SUPERSU and ask for update.. then without reboot i can use the app in with root priviledges!
i hope someone come out with a solution!!!

From the oppo forums, it seems like it's perfectly okay to flash it from TWRP, but the Rom will overwrite the recovery with the stock one

What about theX9007 platform?
This is great news about a new, stable release, but everything says it is for the X9006 only. Myself and others have the X9007. I use my X9007 in Europe and the USA... and have no intention of using LTE in China. If I flash this, will I essentially have the X9006?
I am currently running the last X9006 beta that was OK to flash on the X9007. All my cell networks are working fine, including LTE. If I do this, will I need to perform a special modem flash for baseband... or only if I want a "Chinese" phone? Everything I have always heard is that both phones are exactly the same hardware.

That's weird.. I don't have an answer for that unless AT&T decided to remove all their bloatware from that firmware baseband which is highly unlikely lol. Maybe someone else might know.

You can update the firmware by using adb sideload but I don't think it's a good idea really because it's awfully weird that you have no bloatware on it.. And the bootloader is locked. You can also use odin on a Windows pc to flash the firmware while it's in download mode like that but like I said I'd be careful because you can't make a full system image backup without root and twrp so if something goes wrong there is no going back so just be sure you want to do something before doing it..
It's possible the device you have was sideloaded with an early bloat free build of whatever version you are on. If you update you will get the bloat. If you didn't want it, should not have purchased at&t version.

There's definitely something not right about that phone.. I'm not sure what it is though.. If that was my phone I would just take the risk and reinstall the 'same' firmware that's already on it to see if that makes any difference.. Or just get an alarm app from the play store.

I'm pretty sure this is what was done to remove the bloatware from the phone before you got it because doing it with this windows application leaves virtually no trace of having been done..
debloater tool
All the bloatware was really still there it was just disabled causing it to not be shown on your device.. This is the same thing Package Disabler pro does the difference is, if you remove Package Disabler then all the apps will return but with the debloater tool it doesn't install anything to your device hence why you wouldn't know how it happened.

How Do You Install AOSP On VZW HTC 10?

Hey guys, I saw a thread a while back and I can't find it now but it was a method to get AOSP onto the VZW HTC 10. It involved adding some files into the radio or firmware or something along those lines. If anyone could point me to that thread or a tutorial on getting AOSP on my VZW 10 that would be awesome. Thanks!

S-off is needed if have a Verizon 10, it's the only way of flashing anything on it as Verizon disables bootloader unlocking by default on their devices.
But even sprint says have to be soff and do a firmware with no radio then u can use aosp I'm on sprint I just say that every aosp for spr and vzw need soff

Upgrade to OUI 2.5 or stay at 2.1 Bootloader 3

Is it worth the upgrade to OUI 2.5 over staying at Bootloader 3 with 2.1 waiting for possible root in the future or no? I've been holding off updates for it but wondering still since rarely I have gotten root on a Snapdragon Samsung phone (cept a S7 just a few months back)
Nothing in One UI strikes me as, oh, earthshattering. I'm not into photography so the improvements there don't matter to me. I don't use Dex so wireless Dex isn't meaningful. Google can help you find articles detailing everything that's new in One UI 2.5. If some of what you read sounds good for you, then I'd suggest upgrading.
But like you, I don't root anymore, so there's no need to preserve older boot loaders.

It's a tradeoff. Installing a custom recovery, the way I remember rooting, trips Knox. For me, the secure folder is more important. But I recognize different people have different priorities.
EDIT: Magisk came along after I quit the rooting game, and I've recently read through the steps for rooting without a custom recovery. I might give this a whirl someday.

The only difference from android 10 is you should now use the newest magisk v23 rather than the older one
I followed this guide exactly except skipped all the magisk workaround stuff and just used the latest version of the magisk app to patch the boot.img

After a bit of experimentation I managed to get it to work. Although you can't just `add sideload` it since the verification will fail. You'll have to unlock the bootloader and dd some partitions manually. Then once it thinks it's the global variant you can `add sideload`. I made a thread about it https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/turn-at-t-into-a-the-global-variant.4393631/
