How to flash OTA via TWRP - Google Pixel 3 XL Questions & Answers

Hey all!
Since the OTA of November is out, I wanted to know if Pixel 2 users know how to flash OTA zip files through TWRP (since it should be the same between the two phones).
From what I saw, it seems like it is possible to flash the Google OTA zip directly under TWRP without any modifications. However, it is necessary to flash TWRP after the update (after reboot of the phone) so that it applies to boot a and boot b (if you flash after OTA update, it will only apply on boot b?).
Is this true or is there a new way so that you can keep TWRP and root without using the PC?
Thanks!

.
The last I read ( yesterday . . . ) TWRP 's zip is not working / sticking_a_round . . . . so you need your pc and a happy ADP to do the magic with the TWRP image file. I can be patient. The dev's have a life and don't need our nagging them . . .

Unable to update to Android 5.0.2

Dear all,
I hope anyone can help me. I am trying to update to the latest Android version which I got OTA today. I have rooted my device and I am running TWRP (version 2.8.5.0) since some time. (Rooted it to restore some apps using Titanium backup). When I try to update using the OTA my device boots into recovery. When I choose install and select the downloaded zip file my device gives me the following error:
E: Zip signature verification dailed: 1
Disabling the ZIP verification doesn't work as I will just get another error message.
I have tried sideloading the ROM using adb commands but so far this hasn't worked either.
Anyone can give me some directions as how to continue from here? I would really like to update my device to Android 5!
Update with solution (for me):
What worked for me was downloading the OTA update like I would normally do. Then connect the phone to the computer and copy the downloaded update file to the computer (should be located on internal memory/download/). Once you have the file on your computer extract it, and then extract the file 'firmware'. Inside this second file should be a recovery.img. If you flash this recovery to your phone (no need to unroot or relock your bootloader) you will then be able to install the update.
That's because you need stock recovery to flash OTA. It won't work with TWRP because the OTA ZIP works different than a custom ROM.
Go back to stock everything and it'll work.
Or wait a couple of days till the boys here come up with a lollipop rom.
Ok thanks a lot, that'll help me I'll let you guy know if I run into any more problems.
how revert back to stock rom

sir my phone also on same condition and on 1.17.707.9
please send above file link for me I have no update notification
now we want ruu
sir please send file link
Use these two files. First restore the stock nandroid using twrp (remember to choose NO when twrp prompts you to install supersu and root rom).
After you successfully restore the backup, flash stock recovery.
That should take care of it.

in usual way of that you have to put update file in Download folder in internal memory(after that you may have to restart) and then go to setting > about > software update, checking for update and wait the way that should be.

placed ota file in download folder then restarted the phone. Then check for update but still the same message "there are no updates available for your phone"
So i just got the ota update today the lollipop for my country (Egypt) i had phone rooted with custom recovery TWRP i tried installing the update and failed.. then i flashed the stock recovery and still fails...gone to supersu and settings and unrooted it and tried again, still fails...
relocked the bootloader and STILL fails this now got me so mad because upon every install failure i had to redownload the update (it takes a long time tho) so if anyone could help me here i will be so thankful.

Nova Plus MLA-L11 meafnaf

I have received an OTA update for may Nova Plus from B332 to B341
here is the "dataversion.txt" file:
"ro.confg.hw_userdataversion=MLA-L11C185B341_DATA_MLA-L11_hw_meafnaf"
My phone is rooted and i have a TWRP recovery 3.2.1.0
the update contains 3 files ( update_data_public.zip, update.zip and update_MLA-L11_hw_meafnaf.zip )
Can i install updates with TWRP, or i have to go back to stock recovery ?
Now i'm uploading "update_MLA-L11_hw_meafnaf.zip" to mega, and i thing it's a patch file for Cust meaf and Naf Region
for MLA-L11 ( I will post link for who update fail to use it, but on your only risk )

I don't think it will work with twrp, but you can try if you want.
And what root method you have there? If it is a systemless one, it will somesort of persist, but probably you will have to apply it again, as your boot.img will be modified. If it isn't a systemless one, then you must remove root first

flash stock recovery and after all update the phone.
and if i want root again i have to unlock again the bootloader, flash TWRP recovery again and PHH root
i think i will keep my phone like that untill someone do an oreo rom 4 it, i'm not interested with security patches

Advice Needed Please.

Hi all, I have an honor 7x (obviously) BND-L21 running EMUI 5.1 and Android Nougat. I have used a guide (which i am sure was from here) to unlock my bootloader and root the phone using twrp a while ago.
I have now noticed there is an OTA update to EMUI 8 and Android Oreo.
My questions are these...
I have downloaded the OTA update and tried to install it only to be taken every time to TWRP. After reading up on this i can see this is obvious but none the less i cant update my phone via this method.
I have copied the files downloaded from the update, (namely update_data_full_public.zip, update_full_BND-L21c_hw_eu.zip and update.zip) to my SD card.
So... 1) can i just flash the above zips using twrp and then reroot again with twrp and be on the latest firmware.
2) if not this method then do i have to remove twrp and then update to then put twrp back on again and root etc.
3) if anyone knows what i should be doing to update without bricking my phone then i apologise but i havent seen the correct thread on this. (seen many indian variants or others i'm not sure are applicable to my device)
Thanks for anything you guys can help with..
You need stock recovery for emui update. Flash stock recovery update. Then flash twrp of you need to root
download multi tool 8 for honor 7x
connect it
go to recovery section
install stock recovery
then u can install oreo update

root with stock recovery and rom ?

I want to root my xt 1775 while keep using stock rom , and keep the ability of future update . it. seems even twrp nand backup /restore stock rom caused somebody no boot , so i am thinking doing below steps . is it safe ?
1. unlock bootloader
2. use fastboot to load twrp (but not flash twrp , so stock recovery is still there )
3, in twrp , flash supersu or magisk.
4, reboot . now i have stock recovery and rom with root .
5, if next ota comes just update regularly . --this is my main concern , will ota work flawlessly since its rooted ?
6, if ota update successfully in step 5, i know root will be lost . but i can redo from step 2 to root again .
is there any potential risk in above steps ?

Yes. #3. Flash NoVerity_opt-encrypt.zip before magisk.zip to prevent stock issues.
If you try to update will Rooted in stock, you'll brick it. Reinstall 100% stock FW (Firmware) via fastboot before ya do any stock updates. At all
Sent from my moto x4 using Tapatalk
NoVerity_opt-encrypt.zip is only needed when using stock rom? or always needed even for 3rd party roms?
flashing no dm verity zip isn't necessary if you use magisk, it should work with latest version of magis, because, magisk now have the necessaries changes of no dm verity

Twrp and Root questions

Hi guys, I just bought RN8 and I updated miui to the latest version ( miui 11 global stable ) , so if I want to install twrp and root my device (after unlocking bootloader) I assume the steps are :
1) flash TWRP
2) do a factory reset
3) flash magisk
and DONE ??
I saw on some sites and forums that I need to flash dm-verity-forceencrypt before flashing the magisk.... and on other ones that I need to flash the magisk and lastly the dm zip ???? (ffs) is it a necessary step in order to gain (permanent) root access to flash this dm zip or are the previously mentioned steps enough to gain it ? and btw for what purpose do I assume that I need to flash the ( dm zip ) ???
another question : if I format data after flashing twrp(which removes decryption) ,will I lose the ability to set new password and fingerprint for my device ? and which recovery is better twrp or Orangefox , and is there an orangefox version for redmi note 8 ?
ps 1: I had to sumbit here cause I couldn't submit in the development section I hope my post doesn't get deleted : /
ps 2: Sorry if I asked alot but my last phone was running android 5 and I had it for many years so I was living in the wild (wasn't rly interested in phones till now)
after unlock bootloader i have boot the twrp recovery (not flashed) and install magisk
thats all.
After this miui 11 arrived as updated and flash failed, reboot phone download full rom update and flash are ok
reboot twrp and reflash magisk.
No lose any data file and have phone update.
Flash twrp only when more modded rom for me.
Sorry for my english bye
